RATING
Melvyn Bragg and his erudite guests constitute simply the best thing of its type on the Internet: literally the University of Bragg, ranging across topics that you may know, even know well, and subjects that never occurred to you. I've picked my way through 20 years of In Our Time and, over the past several months, have distracted myself with an IOT episode first thing each day. This morning's was "The 12th Century Renaissance" and the century's dramatic changes in demography, agriculture, urbanization, politics, Christian theology, the rescue of ancient texts via Middle Eastern scholars, the rise of universities in Italy, France, and England, and so much more, all presented conversationally and brilliantly by authorities who...know...so...much... Staggering and, for a certain type of mind, the right way to start, or.conclude a day. Melvyn and company's topics range widely, from culture to history to science to philosophy and seldom if ever hit a wrong note. Listen and see for yourself.
One of the best. Always interesting, enjoyable, and engaging.
45 - 50 mins of some of the finest minds talking about all sorts of different things. Moderated by the great Melvyn Bragg. Well worth subscribing.
Can be a bit impenetrable if it's not a topic you're interested in, but when it's good, it's really, really good. And lest we forget, Melvyn Bragg is a national treasure.
What a great way to be introduced to ideas in a wide range of subjects. Feed your mind week after week. Brilliant guests expertly guided to give their best by the host.
Bragg interrupts guests before they can say anything, barks at women to "put them in their place" and generally makes sure experts can't share anything about their field of expertise so the public can hear Bragg mumble about things he knows nothing about. He is unprofessional, ignorant, a terrible host and a generally vicious old men whose purpose in life is to beat women down so he can feel superior.
What's left to say about this truly legendary BBC production? I have learned so much about so many topics over the years and am deeply grateful to everyone involved in making this show.
This show is such a precious resource for the intellectual life of our planet. If it didn't already exist we'd be forced to invent it.
Podcasts are very interesting and useful. Unfortunately, I can't understand half of the things that Melvyn Bragg is saying. He's just mumbling, he is inarticulate.
