Hey there loyal listeners, as you know the HG101

0:03

podcast is made possible by our amazing Patreon

0:05

supporters, who help keep the show alive by

0:08

donating as little as three bucks a month.

0:10

You can be like them. By chipping in

0:12

you'll not only help keep the lights on

0:14

at HG101 towers, you'll also gain access to

0:17

our secret patrons-only RSS feed. That's

0:19

the fee that gets an extra bonus episode every

0:21

week. Here's a taste of what you've been missing.

0:23

We're gonna be talking about Gauntlet, the

0:25

Tiger LCD handheld game. First

0:27

of all, how do you fit four players around

0:29

the tiny LCD screen? How does that work? You

0:32

don't. You are only warrior all the time. I

0:34

don't know for sure, but I

0:37

think if you press like the mode select button

0:39

or something, it will give you instead of an

0:41

axe, you'll get a sword and you'll

0:43

also have like a tank top. I

0:46

think that it turns you into

0:48

the Amazon because the barbarian has long hair.

0:52

I guess. I think that's what

0:54

they're doing. So

0:57

go to patreon.com/HG101 and donate

0:59

a couple bucks. That's patreon.com/HG101.

1:03

Act now and be a

1:05

hero. Hello

1:27

and welcome to hardcoregaming101.net's top 47,858 games of

1:29

all time podcast, where we

1:34

objectively, definitively and scientifically rank the games you

1:36

nominate. I'm the show's main host and producer,

1:38

Rabbo and Orzorzu. By now me and the

1:40

HG101 gang have already ranked well over 500

1:42

games. Check them out.

1:44

There's a list. Bitly slash 47k

1:47

games. Hi

1:49

everyone, welcome to top

1:52

47,858 games of all

1:54

time. We

1:57

objectively, scientifically and definitively ranked the games.

2:00

you nominate, you've heard me say

2:02

this a lot and it's a lie.

2:04

Yet again, I'm lying to you. I

2:06

picked a game. This is episode 685.

2:08

I've been

2:11

playing recently and recently is,

2:14

well, last year, 2023 and this

2:16

year, 2024. So there'll be some

2:18

more of these before it

2:20

ends. I've been playing some

2:22

Xbox 360 era titles because

2:25

Microsoft is just going to

2:27

turn off at least new

2:31

downloads or new account

2:35

stuff for the

2:37

Xbox 360 marketplace. That's something that

2:39

they are doing soon-ish.

2:43

To get the full experience of putting

2:45

in a CD and being able to

2:47

download tiny bits of DLC or pay

2:49

real money for one stupid

2:51

looking car thing, I've been rushing

2:54

through the Xbox 360 library to play

2:57

any games I missed. Also, they're like

2:59

five bucks or ten bucks. This

3:01

is the down tempo point of the

3:03

market for the 360. Not

3:06

necessarily the PS3 because that thing became

3:08

something that was always expensive even though they were

3:10

almost always objectively worse. Well,

3:12

they have trophies. People want trophies. But

3:15

you could try the achievements to your Microsoft

3:17

account right now. It works. Yeah, but you

3:20

have trophies to bear the achievements. You know that. You

3:25

know that clunk sound when you get into a treatment?

3:27

I like that one a lot. It's real

3:29

nice. It's real good on the 360. Project

3:32

Silpheed for the two

3:34

or three people, because when I last mentioned

3:36

this game, at least one person on Twitter

3:39

was like, what?

3:42

Is that related to what is it?

3:44

Silpheed? Yeah. Yes. Yeah,

3:47

they released one on the 360 and

3:49

apparently it was so poorly

3:53

maybe marketed, but maybe it's just easy to miss. It

3:56

didn't have enough impact that people realized

3:59

that. a long running series

4:01

of like Japanese shmups got

4:04

a Xbox 360 exclusive,

4:07

which is it's not strictly

4:09

a shmup. It is a full

4:12

360. What's

4:14

the right word? I'm like

4:17

four axes. How you got like a lot of axes,

4:19

you know, you got like full directional

4:21

freedom of movement. Sure.

4:24

Yeah, you can go anywhere. It's it's space. You

4:26

can go anywhere. You can go anywhere, but

4:28

you can only like realistically go like a little

4:30

up and a little down like, you know, because

4:32

that's how you can lie upside down.

4:35

Yeah, but you don't like most space games you're

4:37

in space and in space, you

4:39

can go any direction and you'll just

4:41

go in that direction, right? Like that's

4:44

actually how space works. Right. But almost

4:46

all space games are that they're flat, right?

4:48

Like you can go up a little bit, but if you keep

4:50

going up the game's like that's as high as you can go.

4:53

Like like you're on a planet like sure.

4:55

And this does the same thing. You're in little

4:58

boxes project selfie. I

5:00

saw this one. I really did actually think I actually

5:02

looks pretty good. Why didn't people like it?

5:04

And the answer is that they have

5:07

fools is the only real answer

5:09

I can come up with. I'm kind of surprised. Like it

5:11

actually did, I think sell okay.

5:13

Also, yeah, probably

5:16

it's a little better in Japan then than here,

5:18

but it got a platinum release in Japan, which

5:20

I think on the 360 means it sold over

5:22

1000 copies. You

5:26

know,

5:29

yeah, so this one was developed kind

5:31

of a little weird, but it was developed

5:34

mostly by a company named set

5:37

a corporation se ta from the

5:39

greatest they created a super real

5:41

mahjong and another super real mahjong

5:43

and like four other super real

5:45

mahjong. So they were unique qualified

5:48

to make this game with

5:50

support from game arts and

5:52

game arts are the actual

5:55

made selfie company and

5:57

they provided additional support.

5:59

for this game. Kinda.

6:01

I mean, they made two

6:04

of the other Silfieds, right? At number

6:06

two. Like, treasure made the one. I don't

6:08

know. Actually, did they? Yeah,

6:11

they must have made the CCD version too,

6:13

yeah. They were the license holder

6:15

for Silfied as well. Sure. Yeah,

6:17

I think they did both, yeah. To make it more

6:19

confusing, this game was published by Square, and

6:21

as far as I know, they obviously brought

6:23

Square money into the project because this

6:26

game has production values, like significant

6:28

production values. It's one of the

6:30

better looking, better produced 360 games.

6:34

Particularly if you go by

6:37

Japanese Xbox 360 exclusives, and

6:40

also not RPGs.

6:42

Like they're... Right,

6:44

although it does have character designs straight out

6:47

of Star Ocean 3. Right.

6:49

Just completely plastic, super

6:52

creepy looking. It's brought

6:54

to us by Anima, apparently. Because it's

6:56

a company that did the games. It's

6:59

got so many CG cutscenes in this. I

7:02

think it actually said somewhere, it's actually a

7:04

full hour. I would

7:06

believe it. Yeah. Most

7:08

stages in this game are bookended

7:10

by five minutes minimum of CG,

7:13

and there's like 20

7:17

something stages. So you

7:19

can do the math on that if you want. But

7:21

it's, yeah, it's significant. This is

7:24

an Xbox 360 exclusive, and it is

7:26

exclusive in all caps. Microsoft

7:28

will not let you buy this game. Neither

7:31

will Square, but that'll make sense.

7:34

It was released originally on the 28th of

7:36

September, 2006 in Japan. And

7:41

then in Europe in June 2007. And

7:44

then North America and Australia, I guess the

7:46

boat was late, in July 2007.

7:51

Not a simultaneous release, but this

7:53

game was definitely getting a full

7:55

Regents release. That was the point of it. And

7:58

it has a full English. dub which

8:01

features people that suck but

8:03

the actual production

8:06

of the dub and the quality is pretty

8:08

high. Evan, since you

8:10

were talking at the moment, do you remember

8:12

if it's well synced to the mouth movement

8:14

or if it's a bit flappy mouth? I

8:18

don't remember noticing but also I was playing

8:20

a 360 game so I probably wasn't thinking

8:22

about it that hard. You

8:25

know? I

8:28

don't expect that to be good. Basically

8:31

it is actually pretty good. Again, the

8:34

attempt at dubbing was really

8:37

push hard which is important because it

8:39

doesn't have the Japanese dub unfortunately. If

8:41

you're going to play the western release

8:43

of this game, it's

8:45

just going to be the

8:47

American English unfortunately. I

8:51

would have liked to listen to the Japanese

8:53

dub but it's only on the Japanese version

8:55

which is only in Japanese. There's no, at

8:58

least at the moment I don't believe there's a

9:00

version of this game that has say English subs

9:02

and Japanese dub that's not allowed. I'm Carl and

9:04

joining me today. I'm Evan. Thanks

9:07

Evan. Thank you for being the only

9:09

other person on this episode. Just

9:11

to prove a point I guess that this

9:14

game didn't really get

9:16

enough of a reception to

9:19

do it justice because I actually, we'll

9:22

go into the details but I do actually think this is one

9:24

of the Xbox 360's overall

9:26

better games. Yeah,

9:29

this will make sense. Game,

9:31

it's a space game. It's

9:34

an honest to goodness space game.

9:36

You were in space and you

9:38

fly around a, what

9:41

is it called? Nebula? No,

9:44

no, your little ship. You're sulfied.

9:46

Oh, yeah, that's a good question. It

9:48

does have a name. It

9:50

does have a name. It's

9:52

got a name. We're not going to find it. It's

9:55

not called. I'm going to try and find it.

9:57

I'm actually not sure what the project sulfied refers

9:59

to. game. I don't refer to anything.

10:01

I think this game is

10:03

not very tied. Like, Silphie does not

10:05

have a story. The the all the

10:08

other ones are just whatever

10:10

shooter that was made to show off like kind of 3d

10:12

whatever. There is

10:14

no story. I do not think there is any even

10:16

like remote ties to that game. As

10:19

far as I can tell the the

10:21

actual game itself was kind of approached

10:23

like that. The the development team mostly

10:26

made the stages and a different company

10:28

that the Anima company handled

10:31

both the like story character and

10:33

like CG production like you

10:36

they are well integrated to

10:39

an extent so they definitely talked

10:41

back and forth but I

10:43

believe that the CETA basically

10:45

focused on making the space

10:48

flying stuff happen.

10:50

Yeah so I mean

10:52

if you've played I guess TIE Fighter

10:55

would maybe be like the closest

10:57

more most well-known kind of related thing

10:59

to this. We've

11:02

done Freelancer on the show. We've done Everspace

11:04

on the show. Yeah Freelancer is a bit

11:06

different though right? Like it's not that's not

11:08

mission based in the same way. If

11:12

you want to go mission based I very

11:14

much go to this is basically ace combat

11:16

in space. Yeah that's fair enough yeah but

11:20

yeah I mean if being in space you're

11:23

you're typically kind of escorting

11:26

around different ships

11:28

and your goals will be to shoot down

11:30

other ships and protect your ships from whatever

11:34

in the same way as like a TIE Fighter

11:36

or something like that. The Acropolis. The

11:39

Acropolis. The Acropolis is the name of

11:41

your ship. Like

11:44

not your little ship the ship that you

11:46

protect because that one gets mentioned a lot

11:48

you're gonna hear the Acropolis a lot and

11:50

it's a very cool name the

11:52

Acropolis. There's some cool names in this game

11:54

just a big list of cool-sounding

11:57

I don't believe Acropolis

11:59

is English. but you know

12:02

European names from Europe

12:05

don't ask me to name any others but there's

12:08

got to be like a Thor or something in there something

12:10

yeah I mean if they asked me I can't

12:13

remember anything but there's some Viking names and it's

12:15

got to be yeah so you

12:18

you fly around in your little

12:20

ship and it is a little

12:22

ship you basically only get personally

12:24

one ship the main gimmick of

12:26

the game's ship design

12:28

is that you can choose

12:30

different weapons which I think

12:33

that's actually similar to Sophie I

12:35

believe Sophie was a game that just kind of let

12:37

you choose your weapons at

12:39

some different points like rather than collect them in

12:41

the middle of a stage I know it there

12:44

was one or two Sophie's that did that

12:46

where you just pick going to make a

12:48

two-year-old yeah it's a good

12:50

feature I think it it

12:53

does give you a bit of like

12:56

decision paralysis because there's no way of

12:58

really testing so you earn credits based

13:00

on your like performance you get ranked

13:02

for whatever completing objectives or the side

13:04

objectives just any

13:06

takedowns and not friendly firing and stuff like that and

13:10

then between stages you can go into a shop

13:12

and buy all your weapons and and equip them

13:14

in the garage so

13:16

there's like pretty like a big set

13:18

of weapons right yeah there's like yeah

13:21

this what like ten types of weapons or something like

13:23

that so there's there's like your

13:25

nose gun that I think there's

13:27

three different styles of weapon and there's

13:29

whatever however many choices but

13:31

then outside of that you have like basically three

13:34

slots you can put weapons into and I'm

13:36

not gonna let you make

13:38

an ass of yourself wait wait wait what's the

13:40

fourth one well you got like ignoring

13:42

the nose you have ignoring the nose but

13:45

that's the slide

13:47

this force what I'm saying that like

13:50

your nose ones like those weapons don't

13:52

don't intermingle with the other ones

13:55

you're gonna put like your gun in your

13:57

front slots the same way you would like cannon

14:00

or anti-ship missiles. Okay, but the

14:02

four slots all have like, they all have

14:04

specific, they're not interchangeable, like all four slots

14:07

can have certain weapons in them. Well,

14:09

but you can have some like

14:12

bomb rockets that are in the cannon spot or

14:14

some that are in the rear spot is what

14:16

I mean. So any, but

14:18

yeah, the point is you

14:21

have three slots where you can interchangeably set.

14:24

You cannot interchangeably set them up. You

14:27

can't interchangeably buy items. You do. And

14:30

you can't buy, like if you buy rockets,

14:32

it's going to be for the slot

14:34

that you bought it for, even if they're

14:36

similar in a different slot, you have to

14:38

buy it. So anyway,

14:40

but you, so you have to be careful looking at

14:43

those when you buy them, because I definitely like, it's

14:45

like, Oh, that's a cool looking cannon, and then bought

14:47

it to go with my other cool looking cannon. And

14:49

then they took up the same spot. You

14:52

know, even though the category, which

14:54

sucked shit, wasted

14:56

all that money, had no way of getting it back. Just

15:00

straight up like, don't worry

15:03

too much because you can

15:05

new game plus your

15:07

purchases. Yeah, you can. I don't

15:10

know what we're going to structure all talking

15:12

about this, but there's while you're

15:14

in the story mode, you have no way of

15:16

replaying previous missions, which I was not a fan

15:18

of at all. But

15:21

you do have the option if you fail enough

15:24

times to skip a mission. Yes,

15:26

it's a nice feature. I don't know

15:28

if it's a great idea, because as

15:30

you said, there's like money that you

15:33

get. And I don't know how much

15:35

money you get if you skip. Yeah,

15:38

that was actually something I kind of want to

15:40

bring up was like, it

15:42

really does kind of, you get stuck

15:44

in a bit of like a spiral where you're

15:46

doing bad, you do bad once, right,

15:49

you can't really afford some new weapons. And

15:51

you have those crappy weapons, so you do bad

15:53

again, and you kind of keep getting stuck with

15:55

like shitty weapons, because you

15:57

don't really like by default get enough. to

16:01

buy a ton of different weapons to try out and

16:03

see which ones are actually good. For all

16:05

their like choice, at

16:07

least I found that there was like, you know,

16:10

maybe a quarter of them were actually worth using. I

16:13

would say that most of the weapons have

16:15

a use since this game is a, there's

16:17

a, do enemies

16:20

have shields in this? You have a shield, for

16:23

sure. Yeah, the enemies, I mean, like the big ships

16:25

do. And I think some

16:27

of the fighters do like

16:29

definitely the main like kind

16:31

of fighter aces have shields.

16:34

Because that's like the standard budget ones do. Balance

16:38

stuff where like some weapons will

16:40

do more damage against, you know,

16:42

fighters or shielding or some of

16:44

the weapons will move much faster

16:46

or much slower. There's, I'll

16:48

describe some of the weapons after this perhaps, but the

16:51

basically, if you take

16:53

the big bomb and

16:56

you go to a mission, which is

16:58

here are eight fighters, they're very fast,

17:01

you have to beat them. You will

17:03

you you're that's not good, you're going to

17:05

get like just destroyed by them. It

17:08

depends. I use the there was one that was a mine

17:11

that I found like, I mean, it was still

17:13

a big bomb one, like he was still using

17:15

in ships, but I also found it very good

17:17

against like fighters, right? Because I'm glad you mentioned

17:19

the mine. Yeah. Because

17:22

the the weapon set, right is actually

17:24

more diverse than just like, gun

17:26

and yeah, yeah, totally. And

17:29

I think even because you

17:31

kind of have a homing kind of set to

17:33

your nose gun sometimes to that's a good thing

17:35

to pay attention to. So like, you'll have ones

17:37

that are called like broadsword or something like that,

17:40

where they're, they are like they're like

17:42

a gun for very close up combat. So some

17:45

of them are quite powerful, but you have to

17:47

be like right up on the smaller enemy fighters

17:49

season, hit them. So

17:51

there is like a decent amount of variety in

17:53

the weapons. But I still found that like,

17:56

for every, you know, for three or four I would

17:58

buy, I would actually only use

18:00

one of them. Like I would, it wouldn't

18:02

be like, oh, depending on

18:04

the mission, I'll take this or I'll take that. Like I

18:07

kind of found my set and

18:09

mostly stuck with that. Yeah,

18:12

I mean, I could see that because you can get

18:14

more well rounded sets. I do think there are certain

18:16

weapons that would be very

18:18

useful in a small number of

18:20

cases. Maybe. Particularly, like

18:22

there is some weapons that are

18:24

better at kind of just hitting a whole

18:27

bunch of targets, which might

18:29

not necessarily be as useful in some of the

18:31

you have to blow up like something that's very

18:33

strong kind of target. But I

18:36

wanted to mention with the missiles

18:38

or the rockets and stuff, like

18:40

they have some incredibly cool weapons

18:42

in here. Like I

18:44

love the missile that explodes into more

18:46

missiles. That's like the best thing ever.

18:48

Like it's just because the

18:51

game, the lock on system that

18:53

this game uses is like,

18:55

I guess, a full

18:57

screen lock on. It's very, very

19:00

anime sort of very like silly. It

19:03

does kind of remind me of some shmups as well, where it

19:05

just kind of you start

19:08

holding the lock on button, which will be

19:10

your your weapon button. You

19:13

have two weapons equipped at any time. Is

19:15

one of them always the nose gun? Is that why you

19:17

refuse to include the nose gun in the weapon list? Yeah,

19:21

because you can't put there's no anti rockets that

19:23

go in the air anti ship missiles that go

19:25

in the nose position. So they're

19:27

in a separate position. Your weapons are

19:29

like the nose gun and you cycle

19:32

your other button. Yeah, three weapons. And

19:35

so if you cycle you select your multi

19:38

lock on missile, you press the lock on it's just

19:40

like, like, starts popping

19:43

off like all the little lock ons because

19:45

the game actually crams potentially a lot of

19:47

enemies on screen. It's not good for

19:49

the frame rate, but it's very cool. Yeah.

19:51

And some of those missiles lock onto I think

19:53

one of them has a lock on of 60.

19:55

It can lock up to 60 different targets. It's

19:58

really cool that you press the fire button and

20:00

if it's the, you got like the

20:03

row missiles which are just like, like

20:06

fire like, you know, they fire every

20:08

single missile. It's really cool. They have

20:11

like the great smoke trails which I

20:15

don't, can't guarantee that's how

20:17

space works, but it looks very cool. I

20:19

did want to point out something. I think

20:21

those smoke trails are, I don't

20:24

know if, I can't think off top of my head if East

20:27

combat did the same smoke trails, but

20:30

it's a very smart thing

20:32

in a space shooter like this because it's

20:35

very disorienting trying to actually

20:37

follow fighters and having a

20:39

literal line to follow makes

20:41

that way easier. Oh yeah, like

20:43

all of the, all of the Croftonists, they're

20:46

all nicely color coded with their engine

20:48

colors. So your team

20:50

is usually blue, correct? And

20:53

bad guys, evil villainous

20:56

Adan forces, I'll fill

20:59

you in after the break when we get to that. They

21:02

have red, obviously. And

21:04

yeah, like that was really, really cool. I

21:06

was talking about the missiles, but yes, all

21:08

the engine trails are brightly lit. Oh yeah,

21:10

that's true. But you know,

21:13

it works the same way. Like you can see

21:15

a missile track and home in space, which works

21:17

nicely since you can see it curve through space.

21:20

And yes, enemies will leave trails and allies will

21:22

leave trails. And if you look at an individual

21:24

screenshot of this game, or when you're just starting

21:26

it up, you will obviously be very overwhelmed because

21:28

it'll have like a lot of information. But

21:32

once you play the game enough, you're like, okay,

21:34

that trail is that's doing that the enemy's over

21:36

there. The game

21:38

throws about four different ways to track enemy

21:40

positions at you, but you

21:43

can eventually like absorb all of that

21:45

information at once at a glance. It

21:48

genuinely works really well. But

21:50

yeah, you will. The radar, the radar, I

21:52

wasn't a huge fan of. I didn't

21:54

find it as useful. I mean,

21:56

it's obviously like a big 3D space thing. It's hard to do

21:58

a radar in that. But

22:01

I found myself kind of ignoring it. The

22:04

radar is not a three-dimensional radar.

22:06

They went with the decision to

22:08

make a flat 2D radar, right?

22:10

Which basically is

22:12

most useful for orientating

22:14

exactly where you need to go.

22:17

So if you have an

22:19

enemy ship that you need to go towards,

22:21

you can open that and say, all right,

22:24

there's a bulk of enemies over there. That's

22:26

where I need to go. And it will

22:28

approximately show you your pointing direction as well, like

22:31

you can see where you're facing. You

22:34

don't use it as much as you would expect, but it's

22:37

there. It's kind of a pain to get out because

22:39

we'll talk about the controls now, I think, because this

22:42

game uses the entire Xbox

22:45

360 controller. It

22:47

is...well, I don't know. Evan

22:50

didn't use the super advanced controls, but I

22:52

believe it does with all the controls. It

22:54

really is quite demanding

22:56

on learning the controls. Even

22:59

the most basic – so whatever the default

23:01

one was was what I rolled with, and

23:03

even that uses every button. I

23:06

don't think there's any control scheme that gets away from

23:08

using every single button. And

23:10

all the triggers in more than

23:12

one way, I guess

23:14

I didn't really need the right stick as much as it

23:16

just looked around. The

23:19

right stick lets you do something, which I

23:21

never successfully did in a way that I

23:23

felt was useful to me. But you can

23:25

use the right stick to look in different

23:27

directions and lock on where you're

23:30

looking. So if for

23:32

some reason you wanted to lock on to your left, you can look

23:34

to your left. I guess it's kind of like, what,

23:36

like Panzer Dragoon-ish? I

23:39

guess so, yeah. But

23:42

the game's a little disorientating because it's

23:44

a six axes space game. When

23:47

you also move your

23:49

camera into the direction you're not going

23:51

– oh, God,

23:53

it is basically impossible to –

23:56

because you try to move your craft as

23:58

well while moving the lock on. and your

24:01

guns don't actually track that

24:03

well after you like move a

24:05

little bit from your nose cone space. So even

24:08

if you do walk onto an enemy, you'll fire your missile and

24:10

it'll be like, okay, off I go. And it'll

24:12

just go into space. And you'll be like, no, that

24:15

guy over there, it's like, no, I'm pointing forward. Where

24:17

do you think I was going to go? It's

24:21

a, yeah, but it is there. It's not helpful,

24:23

but you can use the right stick. But

24:25

when we when we describe all the buttons, I have to make it clear

24:27

that like all the D pad

24:30

directions basically do something different. So

24:34

it's got multiple like double tap buttons,

24:37

and there's a hold button. Like, yeah,

24:41

I'll bring up my grievance with I

24:43

absolutely hate that you trigger like an

24:45

afterburner that trains your shields and makes

24:47

you go really fast. If

24:50

you double if you double tap

24:52

the go button, which oh

24:54

my god, because I was I was letting off gas

24:56

a bunch to, you know, and then putting the gas

24:58

back on and I would do that a bit too

25:00

fast for its liking and then speed right into a

25:03

carrier and die. I

25:06

actually believe other than maybe the end boss of

25:08

the whole game, the main way you

25:11

will die if you play this game will

25:13

be crashing into things because it's

25:15

a they made the decision of

25:17

making it extremely punishing if you hit things.

25:21

I think it's the right choice,

25:24

because it adds firstly,

25:26

it has like a little like genuine like flavor

25:28

of risk to the maneuvers that you do, right?

25:30

Like you don't just bounce off all

25:33

these different ships and losses you like kind

25:35

of lose a tiny bit of health. It

25:37

makes those carriers and trying to

25:39

make maneuvers around them very

25:42

dangerous. Probably

25:44

works for the game's balance so that you don't

25:46

just fly right up to

25:48

a carrier and just kind of like, hey,

25:50

you can't hit me is tons of bullets,

25:53

but you still kind of can. Yeah, but

25:55

it just makes it more risky. Basically,

25:57

you got to be able to do that. be

26:00

real careful with your maneuvers. And

26:02

yeah, if you accidentally double

26:04

tap and you have shield, which most of

26:06

the time you will, you will initiate

26:08

the afterburn, which the afterburn is incredibly

26:10

cool. I love the afterburn in this.

26:13

It's a, I'm fine with

26:15

it. Yeah, my settings for

26:18

this, because I think it has the ability, you can,

26:21

you can set it so that your

26:23

speed is stays where you put

26:25

it, or you can set your

26:28

speed, I think it's a toggle to like

26:30

match other people's speed. I think there's a,

26:32

oh, that's like a, if you hold a,

26:34

then it matches speed or some weird stuff

26:36

like that. And there's like a, there's

26:38

another speed setting where it's like, it

26:40

always tries to drive you forward a bit and you

26:42

press the speed button to go faster and you press

26:44

the brake to slow down. But every

26:46

time you're like just kind of going

26:48

through space, you're at regular speed and the

26:51

game doesn't do too many like speed

26:54

effects, right? It's you just do in the

26:56

space hovering, but you press the like double

26:58

tap and you kick in the afterburn, it's

27:00

just like, and the engines go off and

27:04

then the entire screen goes into

27:06

hyperspace blur mode. And you genuinely

27:08

go a lot faster. Like it's,

27:11

you know, cause some games when you go fast, it kicks

27:13

on the graphic effects, but you don't go very fast in

27:16

this one. It might seem like you're

27:18

not going fast, but when you look at

27:20

the numbers of like the enemy ship's locations,

27:23

it's like 70, 60. Yeah.

27:26

It's, it's pretty, it's pretty fun. And

27:28

if you don't break in time, you

27:30

will explode instantly. And I am completely

27:32

curious. I could go from full health

27:34

to dead, dead. If you

27:37

full afterburn directly into like a

27:40

carrier, the little ships, the baby

27:42

ships, I don't think they have

27:44

hit boxes. So you're okay. But

27:46

the carriers is 15 minutes

27:48

into that mission. You

27:51

know, Just trying to get back.

27:53

Yeah. That's the way you go. Get Back to

27:55

the Acropolis to heal and oh my. God. No,

27:57

no, I crashed into the Acropolis again. Nick

28:00

office but. I

28:02

did it I didn't once. Kids on with

28:04

the game. Has is really this is little

28:06

side a diversion but. You can

28:09

the i'm like ace combat or I guess like

28:11

a combat when you have landing pads and self

28:13

a some games that a like this class your

28:15

midstage or you have to find. A

28:17

better. Pick up something in this game.

28:19

you have one to two kind of

28:22

like floating healing points that represents a

28:24

your home base the Acropolis War. There's

28:26

like a terrier a little like police.

28:29

Are you from years? Yeah yeah. They're

28:32

They're usually it's six locations unless the

28:34

Acropolis itself is moving due to the

28:36

plug going on in the stage. But

28:38

when you get close to it all you have to

28:40

do is press the a little say the select button.

28:43

I know that don't have that by many

28:45

more for it. Was

28:47

really sick as the back button. It's as

28:49

I didn't. Suspect. Roam the

28:51

buttons, For. Why is

28:54

it? But he doesn't have been a breeze like

28:56

a reverse. but if you look at it like

28:58

the starts like triangle on them up I know

29:00

what did I know I know what know I

29:02

know what it is. So it's sonos. The best

29:04

triangle basket on our like is what is it

29:06

rewind know it does it's not determine what it

29:09

might it might use. this is it's easy to

29:11

to all your money. So.

29:13

You press the share

29:15

button and. When

29:19

you're near and and and oh you near the

29:21

acropolis and it'll tell you on the screen like

29:23

also you can can repair now and that I'll

29:25

kick into a cut scene which you can skip

29:27

which is good but I do like the cut

29:29

scene cause you get to see like a three

29:31

second like your. If. So why the

29:34

into and and it makes the landing in

29:36

there like repairing. Now you're ready for takeoff

29:38

famine you fly back out like it's cool

29:40

says it does that one. If you wash

29:42

the cut scenes that reset your position, don't.

29:45

Know. Is that why okay? I that's why

29:47

I couldn't remember. accidentally. If you skip it, he

29:49

you keep flying, maybe into the Acropolis? both. sort

29:51

of. That's where I'm going here is I have.

29:54

Flown. into the acropolis off the

29:56

healing from the acropolis at maximum

29:59

speed it It's

30:01

very silly, but the reason that they

30:04

don't reset your position is obviously it's

30:06

actually kind of... that would be

30:08

far more confusing because you'd fly in

30:10

from one angle and then you'd leave the

30:12

Acropolis at a completely random other angle, the

30:15

brain would get twisted up. So

30:17

I do... I really

30:20

got confused with this game too though, because

30:23

at least in the manual it says, oh,

30:25

you can heal at any carrier or tanker.

30:27

You can mostly only heal at the Acropolis.

30:29

And also they don't mark which ships you

30:31

can heal at. So when

30:34

you're in the middle of a mission and you have no health and

30:36

you're just like, fuck me, I really got to heal here, your

30:38

best choice is to fly around every ship and see

30:41

what's going on inside. I think

30:43

there's either on the map or

30:45

on some sort of graphic, I

30:47

think there is a healing icon.

30:50

I don't believe you. I don't believe you.

30:52

It's there. Or it's just

30:54

the Acropolis icon. You

30:57

have to find the Acropolis because that's always what you

30:59

can heal on. But sometimes it's not

31:01

there. Yeah, I know. It's

31:06

fine. So

31:09

you got the double tap controls, which although I

31:12

agree that they can be fidgety, I do do

31:15

it myself very often. And

31:18

when I did it, this isn't like I

31:20

press it and I'm like, oh, I didn't do that.

31:23

That maybe happened once across like 20 or

31:25

30 hours playing this game. Okay,

31:28

I definitely did it. I'm going to say five times

31:30

within the course of me playing through this game. I

31:33

wouldn't mind it. If

31:36

I didn't die from it, I wouldn't remember.

31:40

Or if I died three minutes into a

31:42

mission and not 15, I wouldn't

31:44

remember. It's mostly that when

31:46

I do press it and it happens,

31:49

I'm like, yeah, I double tapped it.

31:51

I know I double tapped it. Fine.

31:54

I blew up. Thank you.

31:56

Like, I know I like, I want

31:58

to make it just clear that like it's. the game reading my

32:01

import poorly like no I I

32:03

did double tap it and blow myself up like

32:05

yes that doesn't usually happen

32:07

in games which don't use this feature

32:09

double tapping but yeah you

32:12

can also double tap the brake which

32:14

is an extremely cool feature because it

32:16

briefly turns this game into independence war

32:18

which is not a phrase I

32:20

was expecting to use for most games but it

32:23

cuts your engine completely you go dead in

32:25

the water and for some reason that also

32:27

takes ship energy not sure

32:30

why that takes shield to turn off your engines but it

32:32

does maybe it maybe it wears

32:34

down the shell it doesn't matter anyway you

32:36

do that and now you're actually able to

32:39

move your ship without

32:41

any thrust so you're just moving under former

32:43

inertia which means you can if you get

32:45

really good at the game and you're also

32:48

willing to risk crashing into something because again

32:50

you just turned off your engine so make

32:52

sure you're not flying into something you can

32:54

do something really cool like afterburn towards

32:57

like a carrier and then get close

33:00

kick your ship engines off aim

33:02

at the carrier completely unloaded the carrier

33:05

but your momentum is just basically

33:07

strafing you like underneath

33:09

the carrier so it can't really hit you because

33:11

you're going fast and you're

33:13

shooting and you're going in a different

33:15

direction it's really cool but

33:18

it only lasts for

33:20

like what like five seconds Evan

33:22

like it's well because it uses your shield right like

33:26

I feel like yeah I agree like

33:28

some of those kind of cooler maneuvers I

33:31

think they needed another some

33:34

kind of different meter for some of that stuff

33:36

they really wanted the meter to like they wanted

33:38

these advanced moves and this is also I think

33:40

relating to the crashing in and blowing up instantly

33:42

they really wanted it to be like

33:44

an expert level yeah risk and reward

33:47

yeah risk and like it's

33:49

because you can play the game very safe and I

33:52

am genuinely suspicious that a lot of the people that

33:54

reviewed the game and and were kind of cold on

33:56

it right because the game doesn't

33:58

grab you throw you and

34:01

make you do the unsafe

34:03

stuff, you can play it like

34:05

a very cappage shooter if

34:07

you want. Like you can fly

34:10

in, you can carefully shoot at enemies, if they

34:12

start hitting you, you can quickly

34:15

leave and your shields, they will regenerate.

34:17

You can fly back to the

34:19

Acropolis to get your ammunition back, you can

34:21

reload, you get your armor back as well,

34:23

then you can just go back to the

34:25

enemies and for a lot

34:27

of the stages you can do that. There

34:29

are some which have more aggressive time limits

34:31

or you have to do something quickly but

34:33

for the most part you can

34:35

play quite safe and

34:38

the game doesn't completely punish you for

34:40

it. Yeah, I

34:42

do think that the

34:44

game does get a bit easy in

34:48

terms of ranking as well. Definitely because you're going

34:50

to be playing New Game Plus. We

34:53

can get into some of the objective stuff after

34:55

this but getting A

34:57

ranks and S ranks isn't

34:59

that difficult. You don't have

35:02

to complete every objective, you

35:04

have to be fast but you can get fast still

35:06

going back to

35:08

the Acropolis after you blow up every

35:11

five ships or whatever. It's typically not

35:13

that far out of the way and you probably have to

35:15

go back to the Acropolis to defend it anyway. Every

35:18

once in a while, right?

35:22

I don't know. I kind of felt like

35:24

there really wasn't a good reason to

35:27

not play the game pretty safe and

35:29

I think part of that too is

35:31

just the length of the

35:33

missions and typically a lot of these missions

35:36

you can't really speed up. This

35:39

game has your main objectives, it also

35:42

has sub-objectives. These sub-objectives are completely hidden,

35:45

until you've done them. Sometimes

35:48

those will be like killing some

35:50

set of enemies quickly. Those

35:53

ones you might miss out on but there's typically also ones

35:55

for killing every enemy and stuff like that. When you have

35:57

a time that you can't do that, you can't do that.

36:00

of like 16 minutes because that's how

36:02

long it takes for the acropolis to crawl across

36:04

the map. Like you have

36:06

tons and tons of time to kill every enemy

36:09

or to go and kill every ship especially if you're on

36:11

New Game Plus. The game does have

36:13

a hard mode. I don't know if you turned it up too hard.

36:15

I didn't turn it up too hard. I

36:18

don't know if that would make it enough of

36:20

a difference but... I'm just

36:22

mentioning it like that there are three

36:24

difficulties for the game, normal and not.

36:26

And I think in the case

36:28

of the ranks right, you still get an actual

36:30

score on top of that right. Like it will give

36:33

you a... Yeah, you do. Yeah, that's

36:35

true. That's fair. But in terms

36:37

of like, you know, in-game kind of

36:39

awards and reflection, like it really does kind

36:41

of cap out at whatever your rank is

36:43

and it doesn't really care about score at

36:45

all. It's one of those games that like,

36:48

because you can choose your own loadout as

36:50

well and there are like a set of

36:52

six challenge missions that... and this is kind

36:54

of what I was hitting out at the

36:56

start of the game. It's free DLC! So

36:59

you better rush out and register

37:01

that onto your Xbox 360 account

37:03

because I don't think

37:05

you will be able to because this game

37:08

is not available on the

37:10

X-Bone at the moment. It's just

37:12

360 locked. Hard

37:14

locks to the 360. It's not available in

37:16

anything else. Right now, please change that

37:19

Microsoft or Square Enix, the joint publishers

37:21

of the title. But yeah, it

37:23

has some free DLC which I believe has like amped

37:26

up super weapons that you can unlock by

37:28

beating these extra challenge stages, which are reasonably

37:30

tricky stages. But

37:32

yeah, you get these like super weapons.

37:34

But so you basically... I feel

37:37

like you take your own challenges

37:39

to an extent. Like it's a game for that

37:41

kind of person, perhaps as well. Like you

37:44

don't have to take the best loadout. You

37:46

could take a different loadout because

37:48

it's... you have the potential to make

37:51

some pretty quirky loadouts, I think. Because there is one

37:53

slot that we didn't really talk about that I

37:56

think does things like doubles your ammo

37:58

capacity for everything. else that

38:00

you have is one that increases

38:03

your shield battery. There's

38:05

one that doubles your shield. Yeah, stuff like that.

38:08

Yeah, your special slot, which

38:10

are all quite expensive. So

38:12

I think realistically nothing you would actually bother

38:15

buying until probably New Game Plus. It's something

38:17

that I do think is there for someone

38:19

that plays Project Silphine is like, I

38:21

really like how this plays. I want to play

38:24

more of it or mess around with how the mechanics

38:26

work. It's for them,

38:28

right? Like you playing the game through

38:30

once are definitely better served

38:32

like decent lock

38:34

on nose cone, some

38:37

good lock on rockets, and then

38:39

probably one of at least one of the

38:41

really heavy hitting weapons since those things can

38:44

pummel the carriers. Once

38:47

back, we didn't mention the carriers for the

38:49

most part form this game's boss fights, which is

38:52

they are very, very cool because

38:54

they are genuinely like floating space

38:56

battleships that have individual components to

38:58

them. Not chunks of

39:00

ship, but like they have turrets that you can

39:03

blow up and they have like a shield

39:05

generator, I think hiding somewhere that you want to blow up,

39:07

which makes them a little weaker. And engines,

39:10

yeah, engines you want to blow up. I

39:13

did find it's something that's existed

39:15

in some other games. In my

39:18

head, what I'm thinking of is Battlefront II. I think

39:20

you could do that with some of those missions, but

39:23

it's always my favorite missions in like a shoot

39:25

them up is the you're in a big, you

39:28

know, you're going over the big battleship and you

39:30

blow up all the different components is great. It's

39:32

always the best. But in

39:34

this case, I really found that like,

39:38

after a certain point, those shield generators weren't

39:41

super worth going for, you're better off just

39:43

going for the engines because as

39:45

you destroy engines, the ship takes damage and usually killing

39:47

all the engines is enough to blow it up. It's

39:50

also a bit fidgety in terms

39:52

of the this might be a challenge component.

39:54

But yeah, I'm like sometimes I'm like, I'm,

39:56

I'm shooting that I'm definitely Yeah, totally. Yeah.

40:00

It's not hitting the component, it's just hitting

40:02

the general mass. It's just hitting the general

40:04

ship. Yeah, totally. And I think with your...

40:06

You can't really kill them with nose guns

40:08

very well, and you can't really lock on

40:10

to them either, so you're kind of stuck

40:13

using the anti-ship missiles, even

40:16

if you're going after the smaller components. And

40:18

I guess sometimes that's useful if the

40:20

big ship is... One of your

40:23

giant carries is also shooting at it, but I don't

40:25

know. Just go for the engines. You'll probably be

40:27

fine. I'm getting ready for the

40:29

ad break, everyone. I'm getting ready for the pause,

40:31

but I wanted to cover the last of the

40:34

mechanics because we're definitely going to talk about the

40:36

story after the break, which is

40:38

that there's a reason why I'm cutting it up like this. The

40:42

game has this very cool system, which actually

40:44

ends up working really well. It relates to

40:46

that shield again, where you

40:49

have a special ability, and that's

40:52

only available, I think, to your

40:54

character. I guess it's your hero

40:56

maneuver of such, where you

40:58

can hold the Y button. It's the Y

41:00

button, isn't it, Evan? That's the correct button

41:03

on the 360. It's yellow. It is yellow.

41:05

It has a Y on it. It's

41:07

not where the Switch's Y button is,

41:09

and I don't think it's the Switch's Y button. Sorry,

41:12

Nintendo's Y button. It's always

41:14

the Y button. Anyway, so

41:16

you've got this three-tier

41:19

power triangle, which is just funny how they represent

41:21

it as a triangle. It takes a few moments

41:23

to get your head around, because it's a bit

41:25

strange, and you'll probably struggle to understand the three

41:28

tiers of it, because I think the

41:30

first tier is the one that you want to use in

41:32

90% of cases. But basically, you

41:35

hold down Y, and you charge up to three levels

41:37

of this ability. The first level, and you can see

41:40

it graphically represented by a bar that fills in the

41:42

three sides of a triangle. The first

41:44

side, when you release the

41:46

Y button in time for that one

41:48

to go off, your

41:52

ship will fire all of its weapons all

41:55

at once. It activates a kind of

41:57

fidgety, not great auto lock-on.

42:00

where it kind of locks on and kind of fires. I

42:02

didn't find like it worked always, but sometimes it was blowing up

42:05

a whole bunch of ships, so I don't know, it's fine, great.

42:07

But it activates all four of your weapons at once,

42:09

and that's the only way to do this since usually

42:11

you can only fire your nose cone and one other

42:14

weapon. But so if you're lining up on a carrier

42:16

and you're like, I'm going to make you dead, you

42:19

get into position, you hold this down, and

42:21

then you release it, and then it's just

42:23

like all of your weapons go off and

42:25

you just absolutely completely devastate the thing. It

42:28

does drain a bit of your shields out, so it's a bit

42:30

risky, especially because something like a carrier can

42:32

actually fire very dangerous weapons at

42:34

you. So you might want to

42:36

hold the B button, which activates

42:38

the ability to do like a

42:40

sideways flip. You basically sidestep in

42:42

your spaceship, which lets you dodge

42:44

side to side. It's very goofy,

42:46

but it does work and looks pretty cool.

42:49

That also lets you do a like

42:51

a somasalt, like a turnaround move, like a spin

42:53

your ship around, which you'll actually want to use

42:56

on and off all the time. And

42:58

it has a level your ship button, which I didn't really

43:00

like, and I always accidentally use most of the time because

43:02

I don't really want the game to auto level my ship.

43:05

It just kind of disorientates me more.

43:07

See, that's

43:09

where I have it. Back to the triangle real quick. I gotta list

43:11

out the rest of the triangle. The second

43:13

part of the triangle activates like a ram, which

43:17

I never found a use for. I don't know. I

43:21

need to play the game more to understand what they

43:23

how they were thinking with the ram, because it doesn't

43:25

seem to do much damage, but it

43:28

does throw you through hit boxes. So

43:30

you can go

43:34

through like a carrier. If you started just

43:36

as you're about to hit the carrier, you

43:38

will fly through the carrier without triggering the

43:41

damage on yourself. Right. I don't

43:43

think it does much damage.

43:45

And obviously it's two tiers of

43:48

this triangle, which drains out a lot of

43:50

shield. So it takes a while

43:52

to get that. I don't know.

43:54

I couldn't I could

43:57

not think of a reason to use it ever. I I

44:00

don't know, maybe. Maybe someone who's better at the game has

44:02

used it. I'm sure someone figures it out. Yeah. And

44:04

the last tier is just bullet time. You

44:07

will activate a slow-mo mode, which

44:10

doesn't really let you go much faster.

44:12

It seems to have

44:14

a very specific niche use, which is occasionally

44:17

you will have to fight a

44:19

jerk who's very fast and dodges

44:21

very quickly, since the

44:24

enemies can obviously dodge your attacks.

44:27

You can use this slow-mo mode to

44:29

at least lock on. I don't know if you

44:31

use like basically what's a sniper rifle, essentially, Evan.

44:34

There's a couple of weapons

44:36

that fire slow, but very powerful

44:38

single shots. If

44:41

you activate the slow-mo with that specifically,

44:44

you can actually line it up and

44:46

land a hit, which works quite

44:48

well. The downside is that it

44:50

evaporates your shield. It's gone. Yeah.

44:55

That was another one where I

44:57

didn't use it very much. I assumed

45:00

that it was there more for lighting up shield generators

45:02

and stuff like that while you were drifting. But

45:06

it's another thing where it just takes a long time

45:08

to actually get that meter, say

45:10

a long time. It's like two seconds, but it

45:12

feels like a long time to actually get up

45:14

to level three, fire the thing off, and

45:16

then you end up doing less damage.

45:18

Even against the enemy aces that you

45:20

were talking about, I still found it

45:23

more useful to just use the

45:25

level one because something

45:28

would hit it. That

45:31

something hitting it would do a lot of damage. So

45:34

I typically stay stuck with level one.

45:39

I think you could definitely find decent uses for it, I guess, is

45:41

the main thing. The

45:43

biggest problem I had with it was since you basically go

45:45

into slow-mo as well, I would

45:47

activate it or I would begin to charge

45:49

it up. I'd be like, all right, here

45:51

come the aces. I'd start charging it and

45:53

then they would be out of position. So

45:55

I'd spend the entire slowdown

45:58

recorrecting. my position to

46:01

aim at them and then it would be

46:03

over. I was like, cool, that

46:05

sucked. All right. Yes.

46:09

No, yeah, I agree. I don't I don't really see

46:11

a reason that it was

46:13

that it feels backwards to

46:15

me. It feels like it should have

46:17

been slowed down as the least

46:19

one and fire everything as the most. Why

46:22

would you not make you hold up this big

46:24

charge and then you fire all your guns is

46:27

weird to me. All

46:31

right. So we're going to take a break for the music

46:33

and we're going to talk about the story. I have

46:37

a lot of issues with the game's

46:39

story. We're not going to go into

46:41

super crazy detail, but I am going

46:43

to probably spoil a couple of the

46:45

story beats because I have

46:48

absolutely no respect for them. And you

46:50

will need to know this to understand

46:52

why I'm really annoyed about the story.

46:54

So that's I've deliberately left this here

46:56

so that you can I don't know

46:58

go play Project Silphid if you desperately need to.

47:00

After the ad break, we'll talk a little

47:02

bit about the game story. The music is

47:05

fantastic. If it's your kind of music,

47:07

which is electric

47:09

space action trance,

47:12

it's great. It's exactly the kind of music

47:14

I want to be playing when I'm flying

47:16

around in space and blowing guys up like

47:18

it's cool stuff. I

47:20

almost think it must be some like Silphid remixes or

47:23

something in there as well. Greetings,

48:08

dear listeners. There's been a

48:11

surge in aggressive anti-LGBTQ laws

48:13

and policies, both in the

48:15

US and elsewhere. In Texas,

48:17

the governor labeled medical treatment

48:19

for gender dysphoria as child

48:22

abuse, leading to investigations and

48:24

potential separation of trans kids

48:26

from their family. However,

48:30

PFLAG, an organization with 50

48:32

years of experience, has obtained

48:34

a temporary injunction protecting their

48:36

members from false accusations and

48:38

investigations. PFLAG offers confidential peer

48:40

support, education, and advocacy for

48:42

LGBTQ children and parents. Their

48:44

nationwide network of chapters collaborates

48:46

with families, schools, and communities

48:48

to create safety and support

48:50

for transgender youth. Please stand

48:52

with us at HG101 and

48:55

support PFLAG and its important

48:57

work by donating a little

48:59

money at pflag.org. Everything helps

49:01

and help is desperately needed.

49:04

That's pflag.org. Go there, click

49:06

the donation link, click what you

49:08

can, and it's different to do the same.

49:44

Okay, we are back. I hope you enjoyed

49:46

that. Yes, we're going to have to talk

49:48

briefly about the narrative only briefly. We've talked

49:50

so much about the game in detail that

49:53

we haven't left too much room for that,

49:55

but that's okay because the the plot is

49:57

stupid. It's like I can't really describe it

49:59

as anything. The know. Prevent. A son

50:01

is great for it's expensive. Cg for the

50:03

time and the in game missions also

50:05

do a good job right cause. They.

50:08

Yeah. I. Think so. Yeah, you get

50:10

a lot of that kind of story as you're

50:12

going along. And panda. You're. What

50:15

you're doing in terms emissions nice decent amount

50:17

of sense with the story and like you

50:19

know, it's not the and reasons monday so

50:21

much based combat is all of the characters

50:23

kind of show up. In. The

50:25

missions And they're reasonably choudhury. Ya

50:27

know they'll say self to each

50:29

other. They'll often say stop shooting

50:31

May said I wasn't. So

50:35

much awaited. Stop.

50:37

I guess we've run in the way. They're

50:39

useless. really? your problem not mine and you

50:41

can order them around as well. Actually the

50:43

do have like a set of like in

50:45

pad controls to. You. Like three squads

50:47

or something. ridiculous. It's kind of pointless because

50:50

I just. Always. That Saddam

50:52

I said. I'm just like everyone. Support.

50:54

Me or everyone go shoot them like

50:56

that. it. I don't really touch it

50:59

very often, but. It's. There and

51:01

there's a lot of chatter and it's again, The

51:03

voice acting his spine to good. I'm sure

51:05

the Japanese version is pretty good as well.

51:08

I'm it's. It's pretty good. unfortunately.

51:10

the narrative for the game left me

51:12

scratching my head because it was just.

51:15

So. That the basic premise is

51:17

that your characters are part of the

51:20

A T C G the terrorists central

51:22

government. Specifically. They're armed

51:24

forces which are called the terrorists

51:26

Central Armed Forces. And

51:28

they are often space training. When.

51:31

I saw in which I don't have

51:33

the full name for here because I

51:35

don't remember even mentioned in the game.

51:38

At the A.alliance which are the gets into

51:40

the Gundam I'm gonna blame gundam. Are

51:43

basically face colonists who.

51:45

Have decided that they are aggrieved

51:48

and are now attacking the Tcg

51:50

and you Must stop them from

51:53

basically destroying that The Tcg eyes.

51:55

Is your basic outline. Of.

51:58

Unfortunately, They

52:00

have a very justified reasons

52:03

for wanting to attack the

52:05

Gcc. Actually, So.

52:07

As again like this, is this a spoilers?

52:10

But it's like a hall that's not good.

52:12

At. Turns out that the Tcg.

52:15

At. Previously. Suppressed a

52:17

separatist movement and independence movement from

52:19

a dawn. Ah, by blowing

52:21

up a planet that they lived on

52:24

just. Low. End up till in

52:26

every one they're just. But.

52:28

One up the whole place. To. Discuss.

52:31

All genocide of a planet, you know? The.

52:35

Not. Not is what is the it's got even like it

52:37

was just the base of like the the people like you

52:39

will like Adama like this is our planet. Don't. Come Here

52:41

was. This is a planet full

52:43

of regular plugin humans that paypal and

52:45

I think the I think is even

52:47

mention that the it's like in hospital

52:50

like the says you can't even live

52:52

there anymore This getaway the and what

52:54

are they destroy was a like use

52:56

like reverse terraforming so it's like it

52:58

was tara formed the turned to terraform

53:01

is to like kill mode don't know

53:03

what's happening with Abv that and they

53:05

they just obliterated the entire planet and

53:07

told bleacher like everyone on his. Or

53:10

at at this point about him. But none that

53:12

her former turned into reverser former Hirvonen earth is

53:14

like a vacuum on reverse. Not going to. Have.

53:18

Your. Character's. Don't.

53:20

Change side at this point. In

53:23

any other game they would seem

53:25

to this episode but in this

53:27

game their dislike oh man and

53:30

as of bomb or. Anyway,

53:34

you should still sign up with us to stop the

53:36

Er the a dime from from going of one up.

53:39

And the narrative revise. and yeah,

53:41

way to be there. There are

53:43

three you can school films and

53:45

the one goes to join this

53:47

a separatist group. But yeah, even

53:49

even after the finalists of Help

53:51

Restore Ever have mushroomed school was

53:53

resources as Wix more fun with

53:55

a speech. Said.

53:57

It's like that, the key here, The way that.

54:00

The aim narrative travels. This

54:02

is basically a done is

54:04

led by sexy space Hitler.

54:06

Like that's. That's. Essentially it

54:08

is that they have a person who's

54:10

like. Repeatedly. A.

54:12

On the side like is your we get

54:15

lots of cut scenes. Ah, they're like page

54:17

do we really be telling all the civilians

54:19

just wantonly. As silk small,

54:21

that's what happened to. Sell.

54:23

Them. And it's like. Oh.

54:26

I see. Yeah, we should

54:28

probably stop. this person's

54:30

specifically. Because. They want

54:33

to. Reverse double genocide.

54:35

Or. On the civilians. For

54:39

us. But. That's the only

54:41

way. The only way the narrative to

54:43

justify this is like. Oh. We

54:45

have to stop space. Hitler. We're not

54:47

going to reflect. For even a

54:50

second. That we did actually

54:52

commit of full scale like

54:54

massive. Space. Crime: I

54:56

assume it's a space crime in space

54:58

to trust. Genocide in Taiwan I think

55:00

result of wrapped. I don't think you

55:02

usually cover up known for it's like

55:04

a cover up like as a sort

55:06

of. Money cover up to this leg. I.

55:09

Their anus. And spaces big but I

55:12

feel like if you. Killed every

55:14

one on a planet and like

55:16

I'm just like I'm. Dot yawn.

55:18

Frank Frank no name. I get

55:21

on my space pod and I'm calling my

55:23

friend that lives on that planet. And

55:25

it has a like yo man what's up

55:27

and his to dial tone. At

55:30

some point I'm gonna be like. What?

55:32

Happened over there. But.

55:35

Whatever, no one cares. And that pisses the

55:37

guy off even more, right? Because. They're

55:40

like oh wow, we genocided a planet.

55:42

Is a. Bad:

55:44

The Martin: Are you serious?

55:47

His. Own not great,

55:49

not good, And. It

55:52

doesn't really get touched upon.

55:54

Also. Like you the other general like the only

55:56

deal with like one of the general in the same

55:59

like. Said. Even. Ally.

56:01

Is. Like. A. Complete all.

56:04

right? Yeah. By. You got

56:06

your guy right, and your guys find

56:08

like obviously you're a motley collection of.

56:10

Like. Pubescent boys and very impressively

56:13

and doubt women is what they

56:15

did this. They got very low

56:17

cut. Sure it's a you know

56:19

is. It is it's are the

56:21

ones are Cspi is off putting this it away.

56:24

this is like. Face. Drama: Space

56:26

Drama Whoa. Dramas face

56:28

tougher. It's

56:31

it's they exist ways but yeah like you

56:33

barrels you know there will find their nice.

56:35

I like them all well and good. They're

56:37

fine. But. Then, like the other

56:39

like it's kind of explicitly implied that everyone

56:41

else. it's part of like the t C

56:43

c C T T effort tr S. A

56:47

horrible. Like. They've

56:49

got like a general and he's like

56:51

that reason why sip don't say anything

56:53

else to protect me as I go.

56:56

Oh okay, their leadership is terrible. We're

56:58

going to address this. was. Snow

57:01

Snow he ran away from. This was

57:03

a rather wishes to run than comes

57:06

back later in it's like it's me

57:08

again with oh good it's him again

57:10

baby. Gets blown up when they all get blown

57:12

up at some. Point. But. That.

57:14

Like. Your characters don't even get

57:17

mad at any one. It's

57:19

see. That

57:22

instead of getting mad they get married or

57:25

something, it's yeah. Attack.

57:27

That's. That's it. Like it's

57:29

just. I. Really really like this game

57:31

and the Indian presentation is great. isn't like

57:34

I love it. Would be hard to talk

57:36

to each other in the middle of like

57:38

say. Slides and they somehow all have

57:40

like space communicators that let them communicate

57:42

with each other. And enemy

57:44

on like the same public like.

57:47

Trash. Talk channels on. A

57:50

year and we're usually visa to say that

57:52

some that it enemies of five o'clock which

57:54

isn't very helpful when they're above. that won't

57:57

be he was. Like.

57:59

Yeah. If it's it's really really good. I

58:01

really love this game and I have to just.

58:04

Have to say. That. You have

58:06

to just go in with the story dislike. Ah

58:09

okay, that was incredibly stupid,

58:11

right? Still, Is. So very

58:13

worth watching. I would not. The Seattle is

58:15

rising like that. you would like to see

58:17

these countries but this this fun and I

58:19

just like I like. The. The

58:21

Melodrama. It's seven. Pages.

58:23

That was. When. It is so like.

58:26

That's why I don't believe that. It's like. You're

58:28

always. I'll say it's all a governmental

58:31

like to the hell a terrier is

58:33

good title engine supplier think because it's

58:35

so preposterous, li poorly put together. Like.

58:38

It's. The only thing I could possibly think

58:40

was that. They. Wanted to go a

58:42

little harder on something grand. They were

58:44

told to cool it's and so the

58:47

the cooling it is just I don't

58:49

however once friends now I guess with

58:51

whatever. Of. They're They're like

58:54

well we are below normal. You would switch sides

58:56

at a point like this but the allied ships

58:58

don't have sealed center is for you to pull

59:00

ups. That second worked for. Need to see the

59:02

same shit. I've

59:05

got a we're going to rent the game right

59:07

now are but where does it remind me that

59:09

ship design small, pretty cool and this like to

59:11

steer motion of target. Is.

59:14

Not any giant robots does not a single on

59:16

or as as have. A weird floating

59:18

space butterfly robot at one point, but

59:21

other than that, no giant robots or

59:23

traditional ships. And. The. The

59:25

game has some absolutely gorgeous work where

59:27

are the enemy fire like read lasers

59:29

and at your capital ship fire blue

59:31

blazes? They. Know it looks cool because

59:33

you've got like. Multiple fights were you

59:36

like? Start with is perfect timing of

59:38

like. Enemy. Read Lasers does.

59:40

That do they soar in space to they

59:43

cut through space. What? Happens in space.

59:46

A fetus. Yep, it's been six beam

59:48

of human space and got the bread

59:51

beams of the blue beams. And you

59:53

know you got the guy selling on

59:55

the phone just like they're firing at

59:57

all of our representatives. Were you like

1:00:00

yeah? this is really war and genocide

1:00:02

is neat. Tonight

1:00:05

is this the I've I can only

1:00:08

handle this games ridiculous like non. he'll

1:00:10

turn story line by making a joke

1:00:12

about because it is. Really?

1:00:15

Just like white. And also one

1:00:17

of the people fox dad's you Ah

1:00:19

so good You know. He fox.

1:00:21

Star Fox you know, sox. his dad will

1:00:23

get stuff out of. Us

1:00:26

at the end does he saw Fox as You. You

1:00:29

can. You can do it. So proud of you.

1:00:31

My sign or. Perfect

1:00:33

perfect way to end the game.

1:00:35

It's. I said the and boss. It was

1:00:37

such a pain in the as if I'm only five

1:00:39

hundred. Oh, that's the last

1:00:42

four seasons. Are you fired a like once? I'm

1:00:45

the I'm also in like the

1:00:47

Five Hundred's oh I'm So when

1:00:49

we have here where I'm looking

1:00:51

like. So. Something with

1:00:53

a similar amount of customization and place ship

1:00:55

feeling to this would be armored core at

1:00:58

Bible. Neither. Do I

1:01:00

do love homecourt? I like a record.

1:01:02

I am I going to go on record one. Maybe

1:01:05

not. I don't know if is was Putin has. Some

1:01:08

test series for leaseholder. but term no not

1:01:10

with not with armored car because at the

1:01:12

very least there's like two different almond cause

1:01:15

riots like that. Yeah well there's like three

1:01:17

of yeah yeah, get was real for now

1:01:19

because six counter and if someone ran the

1:01:21

and four and five or or or real

1:01:23

difference or I don't know over Mckinney the

1:01:26

that. but so. Are losing

1:01:28

ground? vast area or a bit higher

1:01:30

we have would we have your family

1:01:32

or my a liar and you've got

1:01:34

an got some good classics and here

1:01:37

we got there The got to get

1:01:39

the axe and battle grader therapy number

1:01:41

my five hundred's radiant silver gun. Which.

1:01:43

Is inexplicably mentioned on the Wikipedia page

1:01:45

for this game. I often read that

1:01:47

would be their fists goats. It's real.

1:01:49

We discuss if it's been fixed you're

1:01:51

gonna have to read as the early

1:01:53

history on that because yeah. It's

1:01:56

a. In has a lot

1:01:58

of sources and it is completely unhinged.

1:02:00

He. Said. Development for this

1:02:02

game goes into the history or not

1:02:04

the development reception. I believe their sept

1:02:06

said the same says into like the

1:02:08

history of pseudo months. It's astounding. am

1:02:11

I. In. I have a lot

1:02:13

of issues with Wikipedia, but that one reads like

1:02:15

someone's actual just. Like regular.

1:02:17

Web page right up. like just

1:02:19

kind of pasted into Wikimedia. Typical

1:02:21

fire. I prefer

1:02:23

Wikipedia when it's crazy like that, right? That is

1:02:26

gonna help. That's like citing a see one one.

1:02:28

Some ill. Would be

1:02:30

surprised if it didn't I haven't. We covered

1:02:32

the same, but we. Yell. Should

1:02:34

ah I guess where it might be. Our

1:02:38

just as a like my ceiling for this

1:02:40

or I don't think this. I really really

1:02:42

love my Magic Sex. These are not really

1:02:44

at all, but I could not see putting

1:02:47

this above. my Magic Sex which set forty

1:02:49

five while at four hundred and eighty nine

1:02:51

is Metal of Chaos which is no longer

1:02:53

an X Boxes And of this her No

1:02:56

Lights is a similar enough game and I

1:02:58

had way more fun with this one. a

1:03:00

Mathematical Chaos. They both

1:03:03

have bizarre stories. For

1:03:07

both, make about as much sense. Yeah,

1:03:09

I guess who's going above middle was

1:03:11

Chaos? a pseudo blade. Man

1:03:13

I see always assess like of

1:03:15

a bizarre unique. Can a game.

1:03:18

I'm. I. Would don't

1:03:20

know if I love with this above Brasil blade.

1:03:23

I. Have not played like a

1:03:25

multiplayer mode so doesn't he

1:03:27

have had a multiplayer mode?

1:03:29

Especially a Multiplayer modes. Where

1:03:31

are you flailed about in

1:03:34

first person using System Monarch?

1:03:36

I waited longer Works. If

1:03:39

you. Consistently Proceed Oh Blade or do you mean is

1:03:41

it actually worked I thought of they made it says okay

1:03:43

I've added this is not have sealed with episode some parts

1:03:45

of the not going to go making a receipt of way

1:03:47

I think my it does my view of she bled to

1:03:49

maybe get a pussy but recent I was hit by a

1:03:51

federal deficit person. I'm okay, we're are putting in

1:03:53

above see the blade to the I love this game. I've

1:03:56

really enjoyed playing him a definitely and. Deserves.

1:03:58

A second look. Read or look.

1:04:00

not sure how many looks at neither does

1:04:02

paint. Bad roused Would kill with the release,

1:04:05

especially since. I mentioned. The

1:04:07

frame rate by avoided Three Sixty cannot

1:04:09

handle this game. Sometimes it earth. Yeah

1:04:11

you to move from those like worships like

1:04:13

just getting up close and will just completely

1:04:15

take it. And. It's not just like it's

1:04:17

not just when they explode if we just when they exploded. Okay,

1:04:20

I can handle frame rate drop when they explosions

1:04:22

go off, but it's. You're. Just doing

1:04:24

stuff and occasionally the frame Myrtle Beach

1:04:26

single digit and sick or can I'm.

1:04:29

I. Find. But it was. Is.

1:04:31

A good A B C release, it probably would

1:04:33

have able to run full speed. They. Played.

1:04:37

Would have been really cool any way above or below

1:04:39

inscriptions. That's really what I gotta know. Right?

1:04:41

And I have never for inscription So we're

1:04:43

I don't care. I have

1:04:46

plane scripts and I do care. I

1:04:48

don't know which way I care. But. I

1:04:50

have hair. I'm. The

1:04:53

Her. Most your foot my phone

1:04:55

on the ground and see which way it lands

1:04:57

Okay. Your phone. Submarine. Saw

1:04:59

your own tone up screen our own

1:05:01

of phone are by called every relevant.

1:05:04

Because. Why are you calling

1:05:06

it When it set aside this music goes

1:05:08

above, inscription cook at going above and scripts

1:05:10

in. The New Four Hundred And

1:05:12

Eighty Eight. Projects. Still feed Add

1:05:14

the time of this according you have time

1:05:16

and I think. When we released as episode

1:05:19

you still have time to get that Blc.

1:05:21

So what's up to your X box and

1:05:23

right now and grab it? Because I I

1:05:25

think the game will patch itself anyway. I

1:05:27

like as the let you download patches Oster

1:05:29

of. The. Turn off but I

1:05:31

you have like a little patches while I think the

1:05:33

games little little six help but. At the

1:05:35

you gotta get that the Lc you want it. I. Really?

1:05:38

Think you should give him ago. It is logical. That's

1:05:42

all for this episode. Special thanks goes
