On the road last weekend as Ahmed met up wit brother-in-law Adam Bonnema to chat on Dutch heritage and the culture and religious ties that make the region significant. The weekend also marked the Tulip Festival so we talked on what exactly that is and how locals and visitors celebrate.

With over 75 years of strong Dutch heritage, NW Iowa is definitely a destination to check out for the annual festival. Some personal highlights are the Poffertjes desserts at the Little White Store and the downtown marketplace where vendors, wooden shoemakers, and food trucks cater to the crowd.

While this year’s festival was quite chilly and rainy, we were able to sneak in an interview on all things Dutch with Adam at the new coffeeshop, Town Square.
