0:31

Hello.

0:32

Hi, happy Monday.

0:35

Every Monday?

0:36

We're recording I think.

0:38

Yeah. Wait, my audio was low again. Okay.

0:40

There we go. And there is my audio.

0:44

What's that?

0:46

Yeah, we're uh, we're recording on

0:48

a Monday. We had some hiccups,

0:50

but we're figuring it out. Just

0:52

rolling with it, right?

0:54

it's a Monday. It's a Monday. All right.

0:57

and I'm here with my like third day

0:59

hair. I've been

1:00

Same.

1:01

braids, so

1:03

really liking that with pigtails. Thank you to those of

1:05

you who sent me different hairstyling

1:08

options for growing out short hair,

1:10

because I don't wanna look and feel like Lord Far

1:12

quad. It's not the look I'm going for this

1:15

season. I feel like I'm gonna go play

1:17

some sports or maybe like have

1:19

a U F C cage fight

1:21

because the women usually braid like toy,

1:25

so you can't pull my hair, you

1:26

like a U F C moment.

1:29

Ooh, we

1:33

had to flex somewhere. Is this the same shirt that you

1:35

had

1:36

No, this one is a scoop neck.

1:39

I think the last one was a V and they didn't see

1:41

the last one because the,

1:43

the video

1:44

the video was playing me. Lemme tell

1:46

you something. I found out that

1:48

like the upload and download speeds

1:51

in Israel are apparently a problem. Like, that's

1:53

like a thing that people know. I have a friend who is

1:55

a videographer and just shared that information

1:57

with me, so I think

1:59

that's what's going on here.

2:01

Great. Great, great. What year is it

2:03

So good. I need to figure

2:05

out some workarounds. I'm gonna talk to some

2:07

photographer, videographer friends, and try to figure

2:09

this out.

2:11

Yes. In studio. We'll tell everyone for

2:13

this, uh, show and tell. I don't know

2:15

that I have a so and tell this week. None of my things

2:17

are nearby. But show everyone what's on your

2:19

hand. Adina got a tattoo.

2:21

yeah, Minnie gave me a little temporary tat

2:24

and because it's red, it keeps,

2:26

I keep catching it out the corner of my eye and like

2:28

thinking I'm bleeding. But

2:31

little panic.

2:31

she got, um, it was Minnie's birthday.

2:34

She turned six. Big girl

2:37

six. I know six feels like

2:39

a first puberty kind of like there's a

2:41

SAS that came with it, you know?

2:43

Yeah, and she already had some

2:45

yeah, so that's been a

2:47

time for the family. Um,

2:51

so we had her little beach birthday party. It was lovely.

2:53

I made quite the spread.

2:56

I. I kept it kind of simple 'cause like we

2:58

had to schlep everything to the beach and it was hot out,

3:00

so I didn't want too many things like bacon in the sun.

3:03

But I made sourdough

3:06

grilled cheeses, lots of 'em. And

3:08

then I just like cut up a whole

3:11

bunch of fruits and veggies and I made a really

3:13

yummy ranch for dipping.

3:16

And then I made

3:18

sourdough chocolate chip cookies and

3:21

I made a cake upon mini's

3:23

request, which was a

3:25

sourdough chocolate cake with an espresso buttercream.

3:28

And I was like, this

3:31

cake is gonna separate the men from the boys.

3:33

Like, I don't know if kids like this.

3:37

The bitter. Yeah. What did the other kids think

3:39

of it?

3:40

I think it was like some people liked it and some people

3:42

didn't, but the parents were happy and the cookies were a huge

3:44

hit. So I'm glad I made those just 'cause I didn't want

3:46

anyone to be like, the food at this party

3:49

sucks. Um,

3:51

Well, you have bad taste. Goodbye.

3:53

This call is not for Diane. This call

3:55

is for the Gilmore's, the Gilmore

3:58

Girls Girlies

4:00

Okay, bye.

4:01

okay, if you remember in

4:03

Gilmore Girls, when Suki

4:05

and Lorelei like start that catering company

4:08

and Suki

4:10

tries to cater this kid's birthday party and

4:12

she has so out of touch with children and

4:14

like makes them all these

4:16

foods that are disgusting and they don't eat

4:18

like,

4:19

You don't like caviar, stuff like

4:20

yeah, that's what I felt like when I was prepping

4:22

for this party. 'cause I was like, do

4:25

kids eat Maldon

4:27

salt on their sourdough chocolate chip cookies?

4:30

He was like, what

4:32

is happening in this kitchen?

4:35

Well, they should

4:36

They did update, they did

4:38

touch. Good. Great.

4:40

Well, it sounds like a great birthday party. Beach time.

4:42

And you said you didn't want food, bacon in the sun.

4:44

And for a second I was like, you had bacon

4:47

for Minnie's birthday party. Yeah,

4:51

yeah. I, I finally put that together, but

4:53

happy birthday to, to mini.

4:56

What else are you watching over there? Are

4:58

you still watching the bear?

4:59

We finished the bear, which

5:03

Spoily for the bear, but

5:06

what a journey. What a journey.

5:08

We went on this season. You

5:10

need to catch up so we can talk about it.

5:13

that, uh, gene Wilder. Willy

5:15

Wonka looking boy. Looking

5:17

real buff in the pop shots. That's

5:19

what I've seen recently on my Instagram feed is,

5:21

uh,

5:22

yeah. People are into

5:23

in the show?

5:25

People are

5:25

I don't even know his Hi. The character's name. I forget.

5:27

I just know he's chef.

5:29

chef. Um, but because

5:31

we just finished watching them and then I was prepping for this party,

5:35

I was just, you know, Donnie and I were just

5:37

chef bantering a lot. I wonder

5:39

if chefs are enjoying that show or if they're seeing

5:41

a lot of holes in like the kitchen scenes. I feel

5:43

like they had to have consulted people because like some

5:46

of this stuff is very specific, you know?

5:48

Mm-hmm.

5:49

Um, but there was one thing I wanted

5:51

to say about that.

5:53

chef pals. I know we have some, after

5:55

reading some of their stories that they submitted last

5:58

week's episode.

5:58

Yeah. D must let us know if you're enjoying the bear

6:00

or if it's irking you the way that like,

6:02

fitness television irks me.

6:05

Um, on that

6:08

note about Oh

6:10

yeah. After prepping for this party,

6:12

like, I love nourishing my friends

6:14

and family. I love making the

6:16

food for my kids' birthday parties and like

6:19

that kind of stuff we're having friends over, but

6:22

man, if you

6:25

cater, you like private

6:27

chef, small events, like woof.

6:29

I dunno how you do it. It's

6:32

a lot.

6:33

kitchen,

6:34

Yeah. I don't know though. It's, you're still

6:36

on your feet all day and it's still like, it's

6:39

not for me. I like cooking

6:42

slowly for a small amount

6:44

of people.

6:45

Mm-hmm. A lot of chefs I know are into,

6:48

uh, cigarettes, caffeine, Adderall,

6:51

a combination of those to make

6:53

them go, go.

6:53

Yeah, the go-go juices. I can see

6:55

it.

6:56

Yeah. Although now you say, go-go Juice. There's a comedy

6:58

podcast that I listen to and it has a very

7:01

different context. Um, moving

7:04

on, if I, if anyone watching sees me looking

7:06

off, I'm like, willing

7:08

with my eyes and my mind, this man across

7:10

the street to stop mowing his grass, like during

7:12

the hottest part of the day. What are we doing?

7:14

to sleep. Just take a

7:15

What are we doing here? Yeah, I'm not seeing it on my

7:18

audio well over here. I

7:20

didn't watch like anything

7:22

the last week, so I believe

7:24

I did mention on last week's recording, I

7:27

went home Thursday and home

7:29

to Virginia Beach where most of my folks

7:31

live. My, my family, extended family

7:33

of your folks.

7:35

yeah, most of my folks live down there.

7:37

Uh, my grandpa, my PopPop passed away

7:39

on the 18th, so we

7:41

pushed back the services because

7:44

we had so many

7:46

relatives that wanted to come in from

7:48

out of town, and it was.

7:51

I mean, unfortunate circumstances to reunite

7:54

under, you know, this occasion.

7:56

But we had family from

7:58

as far as Canada, California,

8:00

Denver, Utah, some that traveled

8:02

with their little kids because they

8:05

knew and loved my pop-ups so,

8:07

so well, and I think I mentioned

8:09

last episode too, my grandparents,

8:11

they immigrated here in the early

8:13

sixties, and my grandpa was one of

8:16

12 children,

8:17

many.

8:18

he was the only one who did

8:20

make it to the States. So he was in the Philippine Navy, joined

8:22

the Navy, the US Navy, and came over here

8:25

with my mom and her brothers.

8:28

And they were so

8:30

loved, so generous. And so that was very

8:32

seen in just how many people came

8:34

out to celebrate him. So

8:37

it was a very emotional weekend for me.

8:39

And my brother did

8:42

a beautiful speech at the wake

8:44

Wait, pause. If anyone saw the pictures on on Instagram.

8:46

Donnie and I were like dying from how

8:48

much Gannon looks like him.

8:50

Doesn't he? It is wild

8:53

and I'm getting dms from

8:55

people too, saying, um, that my

8:57

smile, my eyes kind of remind them of my grandfather

8:59

too. And now looking at all the old photos,

9:01

I see it. But my brother bears

9:04

a striking resemblance to him and he actually wore

9:06

to the wake and to the funeral, one of

9:08

a couple of my granddad's barong. It's

9:11

a traditional Filipino shirt. It looks kinda like a

9:13

Cuban shirt if you've seen those kind of gauzy.

9:15

And they usually have some kind of embroidery on them.

9:17

So my brother wore some of my grandpa's shirts

9:20

from the sixties and they fit him

9:22

like perfectly. So

9:24

that was real sweet to see. Um,

9:27

a priest that I remember when I grew

9:29

up and grew up in the Catholic church as a kiddo

9:32

who came out of retirement to do this

9:34

funeral mass for my grandfather. And

9:36

he gave a really moving homily and like

9:38

cried through the homily and like. Some

9:41

cousins played violin for my grandpa.

9:43

We had a great reception afterwards,

9:46

which was really nice. And there was

9:48

this Filipino bakery, I'll put the name

9:51

or the details in the show notes if you happen

9:53

to be in Virginia Beach, Norfolk area in Virginia.

9:56

She made UBE cookies. So Uey

9:58

is like a

9:59

It's having a moment.

10:01

It is because Trader Joe's has uey

10:03

pancake mix that is really lovely. So she

10:05

made uey crinkle cookies and she also

10:07

made this uey mocha cake. So

10:09

a couple layers were mocha, almost like a tiramisu

10:12

flavor. And then others were uey.

10:14

So that's a little bit more neutral. But she uses

10:16

coconut sugar and she gets coconut,

10:19

organic coconut from somewhere. Um,

10:21

my mom said New Jersey, but I was like, wait, what?

10:23

Imported from New Jersey?

10:26

The best coconut in all the land.

10:28

And all the land from New Jersey, but whatever

10:30

it was, it was really good. And it

10:32

was just so nice to celebrate the life

10:34

of my grandpa. We were really, really close

10:36

and he was just the sweetest, kindest

10:39

guy who cracked crab legs for me until

10:41

last year. And he's

10:43

always was such a big cheerleader when

10:45

I started my business in every FaceTime.

10:48

So I was asking, how many clients do you have? How was your

10:50

business? So he's

10:52

gonna live on, in memory 98, about

10:54

98 years. That was a long life,

10:56

but still to a really big loss

10:59

for us. So we're really missing him.

11:00

Yeah, that's really special. I'm glad you had that opportunity.

11:03

Um, Donnie

11:05

saw your picture on Instagram also and

11:08

said that he has

11:10

that quality where like you

11:13

look at his face and can just tell how sweet

11:15

he is. You know?

11:18

He does. I think he smiled with

11:20

his whole face. And um, when I took a

11:22

picture with him last visit, he als

11:24

he turned to me and he's like, you know, people tell

11:26

me I have a nice smile. And I go, you

11:28

do pop, pop. And he chuckled, but

11:30

he always liked fart jokes. And then he would laugh hysterically

11:33

at guacamole, like he thought that was

11:35

the funniest word. Um,

11:38

so love that. And

11:40

so I don't have many other food things to share

11:42

except I did go hard on lumpia, which

11:44

is a Filipino egg roll. They're very thin

11:46

and crunchy. If you're thinking of like Chinese

11:49

egg rolls, those are usually thicker, full

11:51

of more vegetables. There are like some

11:53

carrots in lumpia, but it's mostly about

11:55

the pork, about the filling, and they're

11:57

so crunchy. So

12:00

I went hard on those and

12:02

in my posts that I shared today, I

12:05

shared a tribute to my pop-up, but at the end

12:07

I also share a recipe I shared last

12:09

fall. It is Ros Caldo, which

12:11

is like a chicken rice porridge. It's

12:14

traditionally made when you're feeling sick,

12:16

when you have a tummy ache, but I also find

12:18

it soothing if you're having a heartache too. And

12:20

when I shared it last fall, some clients made it and

12:22

so they really liked it. It is

12:24

just so gingery garlicy.

12:27

I like putting soft oiled eggs on top and

12:29

having like a really oatmeal like consistency

12:32

so you can make it in the Instant Pot. And I wanted to

12:34

share it with everyone because my grandparents really

12:37

taught me so much about my Filipino culture

12:39

identity, but also about food as a love

12:41

language. So I wanted to share that with you because

12:43

my grandpa used to one. Rub

12:46

my tummy when I had a stomach ache

12:48

and he would say, hurt, go away. And now

12:51

looking back at the way he would rub my stomach, it was kind

12:53

of like the, a stomach massage I've shared

12:55

with clients before. Uh,

12:57

but there's just something to that and to Vix

13:00

if you're Latina or Filipino, you

13:02

know, the Bix is something that you put on

13:04

everything to make her go away. But

13:07

also food. And this really

13:09

soothing brothy, garlicy ginger rice

13:11

with chicken or eggs on top

13:14

is super yum.

13:15

yummy.

13:16

So I'll link that in the feed if you want to

13:18

in the feed, in the show notes.

13:20

In the show feed notes.

13:22

show feed notes. Yeah.

13:23

Nice, nice, nice.

13:25

that was this weekend. Oh, and I got beach time too.

13:27

And thought of you.

13:29

God for the beach time.

13:31

yeah. My best, my childhood bestie was like,

13:33

do you wanna spend half

13:35

the day at the beach before the wake? And I said, of

13:37

course. So we picked

13:39

up breakfast and brought it to the beach. The

13:41

water felt like bath

13:43

Yeah, that's what we have here now is the best.

13:46

It was like 95 degrees with a

13:48

thousand percent humidity there in

13:50

Virginia Beach, and the heat index was

13:52

like over a hundred. So

13:54

yeah, we, we got sweaty,

13:57

which I know we're gonna be talking about. Today's

13:59

getting, getting hot, sweaty.

14:01

sweaty.

14:02

Yeah. But before we do, I have

14:04

to read a review that I don't think we read.

14:07

Yeah, we didn't read this one last week, but, oh,

14:09

we did share it on our Instagram

14:11

feed. So this one is from

14:13

Girl with the Braves seven, nine. I think I

14:15

know who this is. I think this is maybe a mutual client

14:18

of ours. And her five star review is

14:20

titled, comfort with an Edge of Snark.

14:22

Oh, this

14:24

is the podcast I listen to when I have had a bad

14:26

day, and I just need a dose of honest, real

14:29

people talking about things that matter to my wellbeing.

14:31

Idina and Diane are reliably real

14:33

and true to themselves. And even when I disagree

14:36

with them, I still learn from and respect

14:38

them.

14:39

We love

14:39

We res, we respect and love you too.

14:42

Diane and I had the same reaction when we read this review. We

14:44

were both like, but what do you disagree with?

14:46

Tell us. We need to know.

14:50

Yeah, we are just curious. We're curious, but I

14:52

love that, I love this review because

14:54

really we, I want for people to be

14:57

open to hearing from different perspectives

14:59

and from learning from others, even when you

15:01

don't co-sign every single

15:03

thing that we share. That's growth

15:06

baby.

15:06

is growth bait B, and

15:09

I love the title of this review

15:11

because I don't know if I've ever shared this with

15:13

you, but my

15:16

first name is not Adina.

15:19

My first name is Deborah.

15:21

Oh, I know this.

15:22

yeah, so my name is Deborah

15:24

Adina, and in Hebrew

15:27

it's Devora Adina, which

15:29

means gentle B. And

15:33

in grad school we did this whole exercise about

15:35

like what your name means to you and if you like

15:37

connect with your name as a part of your personality,

15:39

or if you feel like it was never the right name for you, whatever.

15:41

Anyways, so I was like

15:44

journaling on that a bit, and I really feel

15:46

like that's where I'm at, you know, like there's

15:48

a little bit of a sting, but we're

15:51

Your gentle bee. Oh, I love that.

15:54

I did not know that about you. Yeah.

15:55

Yeah. So that's what the title

15:57

of this review feels like for me.

16:01

I like it. I love it. So yeah, you can go

16:03

and leave us a a five star review

16:06

if you like. If you've got a minute.

16:08

Yeah, do

16:08

Takes just a minute. Do it. Do it. Yeah.

16:11

Well, in the spirit of July, end

16:13

of July, early August, the

16:15

humidity is humid,

16:17

Yes.

16:17

the heat is hot. Hotting.

16:21

had a heat wave this last week.

16:24

Oh, I mean, Arizona is on

16:26

fire. Aliens,

16:29

a minute.

16:30

aliens are being disclosed.

16:32

Like there's all, all kinds of things going

16:34

on in that desert.

16:35

A lot happening.

16:37

Yeah, that that's the only news I've been up on is the

16:39

alien disclosures, but lots of heat.

16:42

So chances are you're sweating or maybe

16:44

you are just covering yourself head to toe in

16:46

some antiperspirant. We're gonna talk about that.

16:48

Maybe you have been eyeing a sauna

16:50

or a sauna blanket and you wanna sweat the

16:52

bed. I don't know your life.

16:54

maybe you're like, I don't sweat.

16:58

Yes, I hear that a lot. I've s I've

17:00

said it before I sparkle

17:03

or Yes. Yeah. Some

17:05

people have said, myself included. Well,

17:07

I just, I just don't sweat. Must be

17:09

nice. Or is it? So

17:12

we're gonna talk about all of that. So sweat

17:14

in its role of det as a detox

17:17

pathway, as a way

17:19

to get that shit out that is

17:21

not serving us as a way to

17:24

move your, as a result of moving your

17:26

beautiful body. It's role in metabolism

17:28

and it's so much more. And

17:31

how to hydrate yourself and stay

17:33

sweaty intentionally.

17:35

Yes. Yeah. This episode came

17:38

out of when

17:40

I started reflecting on the fact that I really enjoy

17:42

sweating on purpose as

17:45

long as I am, like in clothing

17:47

appropriate for sweating. So either like

17:50

a bathing suit or workout

17:52

clothes, or even just like a light t-shirt and

17:54

Something breathable

17:56

I can get down with sweating, but

17:59

if I'm like dressed for a wedding or

18:02

in polyester. That's

18:04

one thing I

18:06

can't, I cannot, with polyester

18:09

scratchy stuff anymore, I just can't

18:11

do it. Or

18:12

that organic cotton.

18:14

like I have some cotton linen gray shirts,

18:16

but there's something about gray and sweating.

18:20

Just big old, big

18:22

old sweat circles that I would rather not

18:24

have. So,

18:25

So a nice thing about here is like,

18:28

I feel like no one caress if you have sweat

18:30

stains here. I

18:33

felt like in my old

18:35

It's more cash.

18:37

in my old life, it was like we were all supposed to pretend

18:39

we weren't sweaty when we got to places, you know?

18:42

It's funny you mentioned that maybe this must be,

18:44

I mean, go with the beach territory.

18:46

Right. Because in Virginia Beach, Bridget

18:49

and I went to the beach, that was my, my bestie

18:52

and we were gonna go get some seafood after. And

18:54

I was like, oh, well I don't really wanna put a

18:56

top over my sandy sweaty

18:59

body. And she was like, just go in in your top,

19:01

your swim top. No one caress. No

19:03

one cares. They didn't. Sure enough.

19:05

Yeah, the beach town, it

19:07

has a good thing going.

19:08

Yeah. So I exfoliate myself

19:11

with sand and sunblock.

19:13

call that sch sniffling yourself. Um,

19:18

Thoroughly breaded. Yeah.

19:20

OEE recently started, so he loves

19:22

the water and I like sit him in my lap on the shoreline

19:25

and he'll like splash and try to crawl

19:27

away from me. It's the cutest thing. But

19:29

recently I just like let him run free on the beach

19:31

and he just like crawls around in the sand. But he

19:33

hard coerced schnitzel himself. Like he'll

19:36

be crawling and he'll faceplant into the sand

19:38

and emerge like a grizzly bear,

19:40

just like schnitzel face. It's so

19:42

cute.

19:44

I feel like last summer when you moved out there, you sent me

19:46

some photos of Abe and

19:48

maybe there was food nearby or involved.

19:50

So not only was he schnitzel, but so

19:52

where his, so was his fruit and

19:55

just everything around

19:56

Yeah. Don't share food with kids at the beach. Don't

19:58

do it.

20:00

you're just gonna eat it.

20:01

It's so sandy.

20:04

So, so what is sweating?

20:06

Why do we, do we really need to do it?

20:08

Or is it just some kind of inconvenience

20:11

that we can just avoid?

20:13

Yeah, I mean like the

20:15

conventional deodorant industry convinced

20:17

us for years that we weren't a

20:20

du do that.

20:22

Yeah, if you don't like it, just stop it.

20:24

Just slather that aluminum under your

20:27

arms right next to those lymph

20:29

nodes and your breast tissue and

20:32

be on with it.

20:34

Mm-hmm. Yeah. And

20:36

it's, oh, I went hard on that. Or the dove spray.

20:39

And I had friends that would not only use

20:42

it under their arms, but just anywhere they sweat

20:44

behind the knees, just trying

20:46

to block that. But if we're not sweating,

20:48

that's gotta go somewhere, or it's staying

20:50

inside. And so when we mention things like detox

20:52

pathways, you might have heard us talk about

20:55

your poop, but sweating is also

20:57

a detox pathway.

20:58

very important one.

21:00

Mm-hmm.

21:01

Just like, okay, here's the way we can think about it.

21:04

Just like when you have a skin

21:07

issue, we have told you before,

21:09

you know, if you have eczema, rashes,

21:12

stuff going on, psoriasis, that

21:15

is an alarm from the body because the

21:18

body is trying to rid the toxins

21:21

and the skin is an organ and it breathes.

21:23

And so if you can

21:25

look at rashes and think to yourself,

21:28

this is my body trying to get stuff out

21:31

because we're not eliminating

21:33

via poop or we're not sweating,

21:36

you know, like our body is,

21:38

needs to eliminate certain things.

21:40

There are certain things that come through the body that need to come

21:42

out of the body and your

21:44

body's gonna find a way. So maybe

21:47

sweat has slowed down and we'll talk a little bit more

21:49

about why that happened. Maybe.

21:52

You've been not sweating for so long that you don't

21:54

even like consider it an issue, or you just think of

21:56

yourself as, I'm a person who doesn't sweat, I

21:58

just don't sweat, but

22:00

maybe you are not, not only not sweating,

22:02

but other detox pathways are not going well. You're

22:04

constipated. Your liver is congested

22:07

and overburdened by chemicals

22:09

in your environment, from medications,

22:11

from excess sugar or

22:14

alcohol, caffeine, other things that it's processing.

22:16

Maybe you've heard things about limp and limp

22:18

drainage being sexy, but that's also not

22:21

moving and you're not maybe physically

22:23

moving as much as, uh, you,

22:26

oh, I'm cracking my knuckles. Oopsie.

22:28

Oopsie, as much as you would like to. Your respiratory

22:30

system is also another detox pathway, but

22:32

the skin is a big one and

22:35

I gotta sweat some shit out sometimes.

22:37

So true. Yeah. I think like

22:39

I. I feel sad for

22:41

all the people out there who are just like shallow

22:43

breathing and not circulating

22:45

that air, who are just not

22:48

sweating and plugging those holes up with aluminum

22:50

deodorant, who are not pooping,

22:52

who are sedentary and just sitting

22:54

like, these are all so many opportunities

22:57

to get things moving and to get

22:59

the, the yuckies out. I think

23:01

about um, when

23:03

we were on our honeymoon

23:05

in Hawaii and we were on our

23:07

honeymoon in Hawaii, um,

23:11

and we went on this like boat

23:13

situation and they

23:15

were given this whole preamble about

23:18

seasickness and they were just saying like, there's

23:20

nothing wrong with it. Just get

23:22

the yuck out sometimes you just gotta get the yuck out.

23:25

I did end up getting the yuck out over the side of the boat by

23:27

the way.

23:27

You did.

23:28

was funny because Donnie was nauseous the whole time

23:30

and I was fine. And then out of nowhere

23:33

I just like felt nausea, went to the back of the boat,

23:35

barfed, and then I was fine, but

23:38

you just gotta get the yuck out, you know?

23:41

I have not had the misfortune of

23:43

seasickness or motion. I used to get motion

23:46

sick years ago. Um,

23:48

Couldn't read, couldn't really do anything

23:50

in on car trips. And now I'm just like

23:53

glued to a book or a Kindle. There's

23:55

definitely a liver health component there.

23:57

Yeah. Um, it was kind of a spiritual

23:59

experience, just like barfing

24:01

into the sea and watching the fish come and eat it.

24:04

Chum in chum. Chum in. Well,

24:08

if you heard of like intentionally sweating, maybe

24:10

you're thinking as you listen to this

24:12

episode, oh, I've been in the sauna before.

24:14

Maybe you're curious about it and think maybe that's the

24:16

thing to do. But we're also gonna

24:18

talk about is it for everyone

24:21

and when to implement something like that

24:23

because I think it's

24:24

everyone on Instagram told me that I should buy a

24:26

sauna right now.

24:28

Yes. Via right now, it's the thing to

24:30

do. Or get a gym membership with

24:32

Asana and see how long you can go in there.

24:34

I've heard people boast like, I can hang in

24:36

there for 30 to 45 minutes. And I'm like,

24:39

and how are we replenishing our minerals?

24:41

How are we staying hydrated? And it's just not

24:44

the thing for some people just yet.

24:46

Yes. And oh, the really the trendy

24:48

one is like you gotta do intervals.

24:51

You gotta do the sauna and then the

24:53

cold plunge, and then sauna it up and cold

24:55

plunge it. And we gotta do rounds there like,

24:58

Totally. And that's something that Neil likes,

25:00

and I know I don't tell him what to do,

25:02

but I'm like, Hey, notice if you

25:04

are feeling really, really stressed. If you're someone

25:06

who historically liked hit

25:08

and bootcamp classes, the intensity.

25:11

And then if you're also bringing that intensity

25:13

to your recovery tools like Sauna.

25:15

So like Adina said, are you cycling through?

25:17

Are you seeing how long you could push yourself

25:19

in there? And how are you feeling later

25:21

that day or the next day? What's

25:24

your recovery like after you do sauna

25:26

or hot yoga? That's another one that

25:28

people love to do.

25:29

makes me feel so nimble.

25:33

Extra flexible, and

25:35

I mean, I'm calling myself out too, because

25:37

I remember thinking, oh, well, I can just get

25:39

a real good sweat on. I'm getting a really good

25:41

workout in because they're kicking my ass while

25:44

I'm sweating and not sure if I'm gonna pass out on

25:46

the mat or not. So that must mean that it's

25:49

That's so good for you. Um, But

25:52

we've talked about this before when we talked about keto

25:54

for sure. Uh, when we talked

25:56

about high intensity workouts, it's important to

25:58

note that stressed

26:00

feeling, stressed, stress hormones

26:03

feel very good until they very don't.

26:05

So you may think something

26:07

like this is working for you. You may have heard, okay, so

26:09

I'm not sweating, so I need to be sweating, so

26:12

I'm gonna start using a sauna 'cause that will get me sweating.

26:14

So that will get my detox pathways flowing. But

26:17

it's not where you start. You need to make

26:19

sure that your body has the resilience

26:22

to tolerate a stress like

26:24

that. If you are not sweating, just

26:26

sitting in the sauna and trying to get

26:28

some sweat out is not gonna

26:30

solve the underlying metabolic issue

26:33

that we are learning about because

26:35

you are not sweating.

26:38

Yeah. I mean, I, it

26:40

took me a few years before I bought

26:43

a son. I bought one. I think last fall

26:46

and now I'm

26:48

in a state, especially with all the stress of

26:50

losing Huey, our dog, Huey, of

26:52

losing my grandpa some other work

26:55

and just general life related stress

26:57

and my recent H T M A

26:59

that made me think, alright, let's hit pause

27:01

on this. This is something that can be

27:04

helpful. But right now in this season,

27:06

the amount of stress that it adds is too much. And

27:09

when I do bring that sauna back, I'm

27:11

going to approach it a lot more gently.

27:13

So what it won't look like is definitely

27:15

not doing 30, 45

27:18

minute sprints. It would be something like

27:20

starting really low, uh,

27:22

not, not that high heat, not

27:24

much of a high heat, and lot

27:26

shorter amount of time. So definitely

27:29

are some ways that I would have

27:32

myself and others who are stressed and

27:34

in that really slow metabolic

27:36

state, ease into something

27:38

like sauna

27:39

That is so big of you as a practitioner

27:42

to be able to like audit your

27:44

routine and say that, you know, like I think

27:46

it's so easy for us as

27:48

practitioners to just pretend everything's

27:50

working for us and

27:51

Or think we're above the rules. I mean,

27:53

Yeah.

27:55

guilty until my, uh, one of my recent

27:57

htma called me out and I was like, all right,

28:00

this is one of the first things to go because what

28:02

we're not gonna do is over withdraw

28:05

our mineral bank account if it's already

28:08

looking sad.

28:09

But like we were just saying, it's hard to say goodbye to 'cause it

28:11

feels good, right? Like if you've been in Asana,

28:13

you know it feels good and that's why you like doing

28:16

it. And then you convince yourself that it's good for you. But,

28:19

um, is it,

28:21

are we in a place where we can tolerate this And

28:23

it's actually helpful.

28:25

Yeah. Yeah. It can, it's there

28:27

when you can eventually bring it back,

28:29

but it can be confronting to have

28:31

to take a break from something like that. For sure. I.

28:34

But let's talk about what, what's

28:36

going on if you don't sweat? So, I've said this before

28:39

in years past, and I know

28:41

I have heard it from clients, maybe you've heard it too,

28:43

from people starting ss h h, like, whoa,

28:45

I just, I don't sweat. And it's almost like

28:47

a flex, right? Like, because they

28:49

don't feel uncomfortable, they're not pitting out their shirts,

28:52

but what's really going on there?

28:56

Yeah. So the first thing I would ask if

28:58

you say you don't sweat is like, are

29:00

you, and have you been using

29:03

conventional deodorant for eternity?

29:06

'cause I would start there, like, I would

29:09

get rid of the antiperspirant

29:12

that contains aluminum. Aluminum,

29:15

like, When I,

29:18

okay. This is a hu think

29:20

about your armpits for a second. Let's all think about our

29:22

armpits.

29:23

think about, that's why I wore a tank top today. Laser

29:25

hair removal, laser hair

29:28

removal.

29:29

Nice. Um, so

29:32

let's think about our armpits for a second. And

29:35

when I am postpartum, I,

29:39

the first time I was postpartum with Minnie,

29:42

I remember being like, okay, my body is

29:44

foreign to me. What just happened?

29:46

Like, I don't know anything that's going on with me.

29:48

Like, whose boobs are these? What's

29:51

happening? You know, just like so many questions.

29:53

We have so many questions. Why does my sweat

29:55

smell like cheese curls? Just so many

29:57

Babies love cheese curls.

30:00

So I remember very vividly

30:03

being in the shower and I was scrubbing

30:05

my armpits and I felt something and

30:07

I was like, uhoh, like, do I have

30:09

to get this checked out? Is

30:11

there something wrong with me?

30:14

I think you might have told me about this because we were freshly

30:16

Yeah, and basically it felt like something

30:19

was like swollen in my armpit and I was like, uhoh is

30:21

something very wrong. And then

30:23

I learned that it was a milk duct

30:25

and my milk ducts extend

30:28

into my armpits. And

30:30

at the time I was like newly, this was 2017,

30:33

and I was newly really changing over

30:35

everything in my home to safer products.

30:38

And that hit me like a ton of bricks. I was

30:40

just like, I have been putting

30:43

conventional deodorant into

30:45

these here armpits, knowing

30:48

that skin absorbs everything. And

30:51

if you are still in denial, that skin absorbs

30:53

everything. Like think about like a nicotine patch,

30:55

or magnesium

30:56

yeah, but like I feel like nicotine patch is a better

30:58

conventional example. Diane, if

31:01

they don't know that the skin absorbs things,

31:03

yeah.

31:04

so like, yeah. Or a hormone patch, like doctors

31:07

use skin for.

31:10

Transdermal absorption all the time,

31:13

but like when we start to call out, that

31:15

skincare gets absorbed into your

31:17

bloodstream. Everyone's all like, no,

31:20

you could use conventional products. It's fine.

31:22

Anyways, so

31:24

I mean, look at the H T M A. I'll see aluminum, and

31:26

there are a number of reasons that aluminum

31:29

can show up on there, but I have

31:31

seen it on those fast metabolizers like, Ooh,

31:33

have you grown up with lots of conventional

31:36

deodorant?

31:37

yeah. Anyways, like

31:39

if I'm putting conventional deodorant on these here

31:42

armpits, and like literally

31:44

my milk ducks extend into this,

31:47

is that going in my milk? Like what's happening here?

31:49

This is

31:50

And you got some big lymph nodes,

31:53

big lymph nodes, big lymph nodes

31:55

here.

31:55

gonna have to mark this one X-rated Diane.

31:58

I mean, yeah. Well here,

32:00

lymph nodes are here. There's some mig.

32:03

It's one of the big main drains over

32:05

there. So put in that by that system,

32:08

So anyways, the reason we're honing in on this is because

32:11

if you're a person who thinks you don't sweat,

32:14

why don't we like remove

32:16

that variable and

32:18

find out if maybe now

32:21

you sweat. You know,

32:23

Yes, yes, yes, yes. And if

32:26

you're concerned about being stinky,

32:29

maybe you will, maybe you won't. And

32:33

there are so many options, which we'll talk about in a second.

32:35

But as you improve your internal

32:38

environment, manage things like bacterial,

32:40

bacterial balance, um, fungal

32:43

overgrowth, if that's something that you're dealing with,

32:46

mineral balance, you'll stink

32:48

less. I've seen it. I've done it too

32:50

baby.

32:51

Yes. Um, there is a supplement

32:54

that I will suggest

32:56

to some of my one-on-one clients when we do their testing,

32:58

and I am suggesting

33:02

it for its mineral qual, like the

33:04

minerals that it includes. But on the label it

33:06

says internal deodorant. And they're like, is this,

33:08

is this what you meant? And I go, yes, yes.

33:11

But that is one of the benefits.

33:13

Yeah, so from

33:15

the internal perspective,

33:17

there's a lot we can do with nutrition,

33:20

gut health supplementation, mineral

33:22

balance that will improve

33:25

the smell of your sweat. You should be sweating.

33:27

You want to be sweaty. I know that

33:29

the conventional deodorant industry and

33:32

the conventional beauty industry, like somehow

33:34

convinced you that you shouldn't be sweaty.

33:36

Just stop any bodily function that

33:38

yeah, just shut it down.

33:41

It obviously has no

33:43

reason to be happening. Um,

33:46

yeah, but you can improve

33:49

the smell. With things

33:51

like all of the stuff we just talked about. You can

33:53

also use natural deodorants. It's

33:55

a trial and error situation. 'cause everyone's

33:57

skin reacts different to them. But I have in

34:00

the past really like the primely pure charcoal.

34:03

Love, love, love,

34:05

the goat. Um,

34:06

with the, yeah, the goat, the, the favorite.

34:09

I think that we both cosign. I think I've tried

34:11

no less than like 20 different options

34:14

because I went to like a Whole Foods

34:16

or Fresh Thyme health food store

34:19

and grabbed the crystal. That was maybe the first

34:21

one. It was just like this rock looking thing that you wet

34:23

and rub on your armpits. There are far

34:25

too many, far too

34:27

many options that have a heavy

34:29

patchouli note, and I think

34:31

that's what give Patchouli.

34:33

And if there's anyone out there who likes

34:36

patchouli, you have bad taste. I'm sorry.

34:38

It is too strong. And there is

34:40

We're gonna get a review now from like a patchouli

34:42

farmer. That's gonna be like

34:45

A patchouli pal. Listen,

34:47

there is something about patchouli that amplifies the

34:49

smell of body odor. It's disgusting.

34:52

You smell disgusting and no one wants to be

34:54

around you. So when that is like the

34:56

main note in an A natural

34:58

deodorant, I'm upset.

35:01

I'm upset.

35:02

are you in your cycle right now?

35:04

I'm actually about to drop an egg. I'm on that

35:06

white moon cycle. So this

35:09

is, I have such strong opinions about patchouli.

35:11

This is the hill. I

35:12

patchouli or

35:13

it's the Jonah Hill I will die on. Okay.

35:16

If anyone knows that recent pop culture stuff. But

35:19

beyond the patchouli, there are good options. Now

35:22

you just gotta seek 'em out and hear it from

35:24

me. Who has tried like 20 of them when Adina,

35:26

I tell you, the primarily pure charcoal deodorant

35:28

is good.

35:32

There are others. So Adina also mentioned

35:34

like depending on your skin sensitivity or

35:36

how, yeah, how sensy your skin is. There are

35:38

a lot of natural deodorants that can. Peel

35:41

your armpits off and

35:42

are very baking soda heavy.

35:44

very baking soda heavy. And that is too

35:47

basic. It's too basic, right?

35:50

We want it to be a little acidic under there. And I remember,

35:52

ugh, I was using schmitz successfully

35:55

for a little bit. Like it smelled really good. You'll probably

35:57

see it at Target. And I was doing a pushup

35:59

one day in the gym and I felt something

36:02

and my armpit quite

36:04

literally peeled off the skin,

36:07

peeled

36:07

I hate this.

36:09

It was raw.

36:11

Oh no.

36:12

Not something that I want to be raw.

36:14

No. So

36:16

from that? Like was it itchy?

36:18

it, it was just, it was really tendy,

36:20

it burned. And Neil, my husband,

36:22

or anyone who doesn't shave their pits, like

36:24

live your life, do whatever you wanna do with your body hair.

36:27

I like to remove mine. Neil has hair under

36:29

his, under his arms. So I think that

36:31

for him, it didn't bother him. His

36:33

skin isn't as sensitive, so, He

36:36

used it successfully, but I'd say

36:38

Primely Pure is still like the

36:40

best

36:41

I had success with the Beauty Counter one for a little while.

36:45

And I still have some of the like minis

36:47

that I'll use. Like again,

36:50

if I'm,

36:50

in a

36:51

I, if, if I have to be at like a wedding

36:53

or something, but I honestly

36:55

just like don't wear deodorant

36:57

ever. Um,

36:59

don't stink.

37:00

yeah. And you could do something like an armpit mask,

37:02

which is gonna sound really crunchy and crazy

37:04

if you've never heard about it. But one

37:07

of the ingredients in that primarily pure charcoal

37:09

deodorant is charcoal. 'cause charcoal

37:11

does a really great job of like pulling out

37:14

impurities. So if you find you're a little stinky,

37:17

you can try out an armpit mask, look

37:19

it up. It's basically like apple cider vinegar and

37:21

like charcoal bentonite clay

37:23

or whatever

37:24

the beauty counter charcoal mask on

37:26

as a Yeah, that works too. 'cause it has both

37:28

those ingredients and I think,

37:30

and it's not too stripping too. Yeah. That

37:32

is one product I still like from them for sure.

37:35

So, um, give that a shot and then,

37:37

um, DM us and tell us

37:39

how it worked for you.

37:41

yeah, let us know. I think native is okay

37:43

too. I tried that, but

37:46

I'd say primarily pure great one

37:48

and that they smell really nice. So Adina

37:50

and I mentioned the charcoal. I think that's, that's my favorite.

37:52

They also have a lemongrass scent, which I really

37:55

like, but the packaging is nice and I

37:57

find that their, their actual

37:59

bottle tube, whatever you wanna call it, lasts

38:01

me both a long time during the day

38:04

and just the packaging itself

38:06

seems to last for a while. I also like

38:08

Adino is saying, feel like I don't use

38:11

deodorant as much anymore. I still

38:13

sweat. So this isn't going to prevent you from sweating.

38:15

Of course, but I don't smell.

38:17

Yeah. Um, they also have, what's the other

38:19

one? Blue Tanzi. People like that one. It's a little

38:22

perfumy for me for a deodorant, but

38:24

It's kind of gotta think a jasmine scent

38:27

to it.

38:27

maybe for like the lotions and such, um,

38:30

we should reach out to them and get a code.

38:33

Yeah, they changed their affiliate program. I, I wasn't

38:35

affiliate with them because

38:36

right

38:36

I love their little lip balms. I love

38:38

their, their, um, dry

38:41

shampoo, which I also don't use as often anymore.

38:43

Now I've like switched up things with my scalp,

38:45

but they have a dark dry shampoo

38:47

and cocoa powder is one of the main ingredients.

38:50

So sometimes I like smelling

38:52

like a chocolate bar. Other times I'm like,

38:55

do I have chocolate on my head? I do. I

38:57

have cacao on my head. Cacao,

39:00

Um, my kids always smell like chocolate. 'cause

39:02

here's the thing about toddlers, which like if anyone

39:04

out there feels me, just, you know, give me a thumbs

39:07

up. You can give

39:09

them one chocolate chip and it

39:11

can somehow cover

39:13

every ounce of their skin.

39:15

Like, how did it, how did, how did

39:17

it get

39:17

There was not that much chocolate in

39:20

the chocolate chip. Like how are

39:22

you covered in chocolate?

39:24

There is. Um, so we're looking for

39:26

a new couch because we've had the same one. It

39:28

was like the first big girl purchase that I made.

39:30

It's like a fake leather couch. So it's very easy

39:32

to wipe, but I

39:34

want something soft. And I

39:37

found a couple of options that are performance fabric,

39:39

echo text certified, so they're not sprayed with a bunch

39:41

of weird shit. Right. And in their videos

39:44

they're showing this is pet and toddler friendly. So

39:46

they did show a couple of cute, cute

39:48

little dogs on it, and then they were pouring like

39:50

red wine or spaghetti sauce on it. But I wanna see

39:53

like an actual, like toddler, just

39:55

toddler on it

39:57

yes. Let me see that. I will lend them Abe,

39:59

he is out of

40:00

mean, I don't have, we don't have toddlers,

40:02

but um, I have nieces and nephews

40:05

and Doug is basically

40:07

a crazy toddler.

40:09

Just about,

40:10

Just about same thing

40:12

yeah, babies and puppies are not that different. Ori

40:15

is in his phase of puppy hood

40:17

where he started trying to reach into the toilet.

40:20

So love that for us.

40:24

ew. Hope everyone flushes.

40:27

So,

40:27

Abe definitely doesn't flush, so there's that

40:30

too. It's a lethal combination.

40:34

oh my God. Maybe you're

40:37

not someone who says, I don't sweat. Perhaps

40:39

you're sitting here like, oh, sweating

40:41

is no problem. Because I do that

40:43

a lot. I do it a lot.

40:46

Yes. I am always embarrassed

40:48

by how much sweat is dripping from everywhere

40:51

on Maba Day. If you're one of those gals,

40:54

what's that about?

40:55

What is that about? So oftentimes

40:58

behind the scenes here, what's going on is adrenal

41:00

issues. Your stress glands, they are

41:02

working hard. So your

41:04

body's like, Hey, we gotta mobilize. We gotta

41:06

mobilize all our resources. We're about to run

41:08

from a predator, so

41:11

we gotta work hard, fast metabolizers.

41:13

If, if you're someone who doesn't, H T M A, H

41:15

T M A hair test with me, and we look at it, we see you're a fast

41:18

metabolizer, you might be someone

41:20

who sweats a lot, even at rest. And

41:22

so what's happening is you're burning through your fuel

41:24

faster than you can replenish it constantly

41:27

living in that sympathetic, that fight or flight

41:29

state.

41:30

Wait, pause for a second. 'cause I know this was confusing

41:32

to me the first time I ever looked at an H T M A, and

41:35

I know we mentioned this on one episode a long time ago,

41:37

but some people are listening for the first time. Some people

41:39

don't pay attention to every single word.

41:41

They're gonna fail the test. Um,

41:44

but a fast metabolism.

41:46

That sounds amazing. Diane, that sounds like something I

41:48

want. Can you explain to me

41:50

why being a fast metabolizer

41:53

as it shows up on the H T M A might

41:56

be harming my health or

41:58

might be the reason why I'm experiencing

42:00

all these symptoms?

42:01

Toes. So ideally we want to live

42:03

somewhere in the middle. There's no perfect static

42:06

state that we can have for our metabolism, but we

42:08

want flexibility. And if you're a fast metabolizer,

42:11

you might have grown up thinking like, oh, that means I must be

42:13

skinny. Ugh,

42:14

I'm so skinny.

42:15

skinny. And I'm just like, say

42:17

skinny, and I'm burning through fuel. But what

42:20

we're seeing, especially when we're working with clients

42:22

one-on-one, I'm looking at hdma. If they're a fast

42:24

metabolis metabolizer, their body's

42:26

getting the message that we need to burn through all

42:29

this fuel now constantly, all day,

42:31

every day. And they're

42:33

over withdrawing their nutritional

42:35

bank account, their mineral bank account, and

42:38

then over time can start. Breaking

42:40

down their tissues, um, oftentimes

42:42

too, I'll see people on the opposite side of that, where they spend

42:45

a lot of time in that fight or flight for a really long

42:47

time. They don't have that flexibility to go between

42:50

the sympathetic, the fight or flight into

42:52

the parasympathetic or rest and digest,

42:54

slower side. And they are exhausted.

42:57

They are maybe also having issues

43:00

with their hormones. And so when

43:02

we say fast metabolism, that doesn't just mean, oh, someone's

43:04

skinny and they, you know, they can eat all they want.

43:06

No, they might also be very stressed,

43:09

breaking down their tissues and

43:11

really working over time when

43:14

it comes to stress response. So that's not something

43:16

we want. We wanna be something somewhere in the

43:18

middle,

43:18

Yeah, think about it as like a

43:21

fast metabolizer might be like actively

43:23

under a lot of stress and currently using

43:26

a lot of resources, and

43:28

then that slow metabolizer might be

43:30

like, They were there for a

43:32

bit and now everything's

43:35

just bottomed out depleted. They

43:37

used up all those resources.

43:40

Yeah. Yeah. And a fast metabolizer. I'll

43:42

see a lot of those main minerals

43:44

that we talk about. Um, those

43:46

will be really low because they're churning

43:49

and burning through those, and you can change

43:51

things. So sometimes people feel discouraged,

43:53

like, oh, I've just, you always had a slow

43:55

metabolism. That's just how it is. Especially

43:57

I, as I get older. But I have seen, and it

43:59

can be hard to do, but I have seen my

44:01

one-on-one clients who went from a fast

44:04

four, like a really fast metabolizer

44:06

last year, done the work. They

44:08

implemented a lot of approachable

44:11

food and lifestyle changes, and

44:13

now they're slow ones, closer to

44:15

the middle. They're feeling more resilient to stress,

44:17

feeling like they can sleep better, they can sweat

44:20

appropriately. They're pooping

44:22

regularly, better periods. So it, it

44:24

can take some time. But yeah, we want to

44:26

just, With our metabolism. We

44:28

wanna feel ourselves sweating appropriately

44:30

as a response to heat, to exercise,

44:33

to movement, um, but not

44:35

just sweating the bed or

44:37

sweating profusely, or not sweating

44:39

at all.

44:42

Yes. what

44:44

can a super sweaty person

44:47

do?

44:48

Yeah. So while you're working on the internal

44:51

environment, something that I invite clients to do

44:53

is to cave down and cool down.

44:55

I think we talked about this in our g

44:57

y s team, minicourse, we talk about sleep

44:59

and the environment that you can set yourself up for,

45:02

for success at night. So, cave

45:04

down, cool down and

45:07

wear some cotton breathable fabrics.

45:09

Polyester, trendy, great

45:12

sometimes, but it's just not letting you breathe.

45:14

And of course, staying very

45:16

hydrated appropriately, which we've done episodes

45:19

on we'll talk about in this episode.

45:21

Yeah. 'cause think about it. If you are burning

45:23

through those resources, that's salt.

45:26

You are sweating out your

45:28

salt. You are using your

45:30

sodium and potassium

45:32

Mm-hmm. And, and these

45:34

might be, and these might

45:36

be the people. If you are sweating a lot and you're like, oh, I

45:38

really, I really get my sweat

45:40

on in the sauna. These might be the people that I'm like,

45:43

Hey, let's, let's stop

45:45

that for now, because you're dumping your minerals

45:47

in that sauna. And outside of

45:49

that, if you're a real stress cadet.

45:52

And maybe you're craving salty

45:54

food, like go listen

45:56

to our cravings episode. What season

45:58

was that too?

45:59

Season two.

46:00

Yeah, that episode's great. But yeah, if you

46:02

are just like insatiably

46:05

craving salt and

46:07

or you're insatiably craving something like potato chips

46:09

and you don't realize it's because of the

46:11

salt craving, it's not because you don't have

46:13

enough willpower.

46:15

Exactly. That is one of the questions

46:17

in the adrenal and stress section

46:19

of my intake forms with. Both new

46:21

client, one-on-one clients and root cause reset students

46:23

is, do you have an insatiable

46:25

craving for salt? Do you sweat

46:28

really easily? There are a lot of questions around

46:30

that that can clue me into, you know, even

46:32

without H T M A, what is going on

46:34

with your health

46:35

Yeah. Okay. So we talked about not sweating

46:38

enough. We talked about sweating too much. What if it's

46:40

not really about sweating, but you're like,

46:42

it's summer of summertime, I

46:45

just can't be in the heat. Like I

46:48

cannot tolerate the heat. I

46:50

immediately, my

46:52

rosacea flares or I

46:55

feel Yeah. Like so lightheaded

46:58

or I get really itchy,

47:00

um,

47:01

Or some people feel like, This

47:04

is another one that is also, I think on the intake

47:06

form that we use with clients is like

47:08

you have, you feel like you have to put sunglasses on

47:10

immediately when you go outside and it's

47:12

sunny. Um, I mean, if the

47:14

sun's directly in your eye or looking towards the sun,

47:17

like yeah, it's gonna hurt your eyes, but

47:19

you should be able to tolerate some sunlight

47:21

near and around your eyeballs without it giving you a

47:23

headache, making you feel exhausted,

47:26

and otherwise just physically

47:29

unwell. So yeah,

47:31

heat intolerance, is that a

47:33

thing? So

47:36

if we looked at your intake forms, I'd also wonder

47:38

if, you know, if you say I can't tolerate heat,

47:40

if you also have some other hormone imbalances,

47:43

maybe your period is

47:45

missing, irregular or otherwise rude,

47:47

or you feel a lot of symptoms

47:49

in the middle to latter half

47:51

of your cycle, so, What's

47:54

going on? Heat high heat is

47:56

going to drive histamine response,

47:58

so you might notice stuff.

48:00

You get stuffier the latter half of your cycle.

48:02

You're more prone to hormonal headaches before

48:05

your dot drops. This was something

48:07

that I used to get a lot so

48:09

stuffier feeling like

48:12

I, um, gut headaches

48:14

outside in the heat easier, dehydrated

48:16

easier. I also think too, I was burning through

48:18

my minerals, so a lot of things were going on.

48:20

I've been there.

48:22

Mm-hmm. Yeah.

48:24

This was me in a big, big

48:26

way. Um, when my skin was itchy,

48:29

this heat made it so much itchier,

48:31

heat drives histamine and

48:34

I had all kinds of histamine issues.

48:37

And the thing about histamine is that

48:40

histamine's not bad. It's not like some dirty word,

48:42

but it can build up.

48:45

And if we don't have the resources to break

48:47

it down, that's where we get in

48:49

trouble. So when I was postpartum

48:51

partum with Abe, that was when I was like really

48:54

experiencing some of my skin, skin

48:56

stuff, late pregnancy with him

48:58

in early postpartum. And

49:01

I remember so clearly the first like hot

49:03

humid day in New Jersey, I

49:06

went outside and like immediately

49:09

broke out in a rash all over my torso. I

49:11

feel like I have a picture of it, I could probably find it somewhere.

49:14

Um, and I was like,

49:16

what is happening?

49:19

This is terrible. And like,

49:22

I used to react to the heat so

49:24

big time. I

49:26

was just reflecting to Donnie the other day that like, it's

49:28

crazy 'cause people always talk about how terrible

49:30

the summers are in Tel Aviv, like how hot it is. And

49:33

I feel so not

49:35

uncomfortable in the heat now. Like I can totally

49:37

tolerate it. I sweat, but

49:39

I don't like find it oppressive. I

49:41

don't get weird rashes. So,

49:45

Or exhausted and hydration

49:47

and your detox pathways have a big part

49:50

in that.

49:51

Yeah. So I've done just so much

49:53

work on my gut health,

49:56

hormone health, metabolic health, my

49:59

hydration, like actively replenishing

50:02

minerals and aggressively

50:04

doing so postpartum

50:07

in the summer here. Like I

50:09

am very, very focused on it,

50:11

very focused on it. It's

50:13

something that has made a really gigantic

50:15

shift in the way I tolerate

50:17

heat, the way I

50:18

Your last postpartum seemed, experience

50:21

seemed a lot different and you were in a lot hotter

50:24

of an environment over there in Israel.

50:27

Yeah, I mean stress, stress

50:29

and histamine and skin stuff go hand

50:31

in hand. And you did a lot to unburden

50:34

the, the physical stress of it. And

50:36

that also makes the emotional bit bit easier

50:39

of a, a load, I imagine. Um,

50:41

uh, we're here, I feel like I tolerate

50:44

heat pretty well. I

50:47

mean, there were, there was

50:49

definitely a time where the end

50:51

of my cycle, like approaching my period,

50:53

I would get, I think I've shared this on Instagram in past

50:56

episodes, I would get horrible,

50:58

horrible hormonal migraines

51:01

and would feel very sensitive to light,

51:03

to heat. And I

51:05

knew there was definitely a time where sauna

51:07

was not for me because I

51:10

would do the sauna, feel okay, like

51:12

hydrate what I thought was appropriately,

51:15

and then the next day have a banger

51:17

of a headache. And I remember thinking like, I,

51:20

I know I hydrated, but where

51:22

was I in my cycle? And

51:24

that would just really kick

51:26

up a lot of histamine and hormone imbalance

51:29

symptoms. I also think there's,

51:31

in some sense a like genetic

51:34

disposition to like how well you can tolerate

51:37

heat. Like when we went to Bali, I think

51:39

I might've shared this before when went to Bali,

51:42

I'm like, I just turned brown.

51:44

You know, I'm half Filipina. I was built for

51:46

this environment. And then there was

51:48

Irish, German background, Neil,

51:51

who has translucent skin,

51:53

and he's like sweating

51:55

from his head just profusely.

51:58

And he's like, I am not built for this. I want clouds.

52:01

And

52:03

Gimme that gray. Um,

52:05

yeah, totally. I think there's

52:08

a lot, there's a lot to it, but like you said,

52:10

with where you are in your cycle, like it's really important

52:12

to remember that estrogen drives

52:14

histamine, histamine dries, estrogen. It's just like a cycling

52:17

cycle there. So when

52:19

estrogen climbs before ovulation,

52:22

that another little estrogen surge in your luteal

52:24

phase. Or if your hormones are completely

52:26

whack and you're just estrogen dominant

52:28

all over the place, you might start

52:30

to pay attention to when your

52:33

heat tolerance is lowest,

52:35

and it might correlate with that estrogen

52:38

drive.

52:39

Totally. I had to, I had to work a lot

52:41

on my natural cycle, and then I worked

52:43

on supporting other detox pathways. So

52:45

for me, a big part of that was

52:48

supporting my gut health, which we're gonna talk about here

52:50

in a few my liver. And

52:52

then also unburdening mental

52:54

emotional stress, because I know that when

52:57

that is running really high, it's

52:59

just not the time for me to. Add

53:02

extra physical stress. Uh, we've

53:04

talked about, we wanna find the Goldilocks stressor, but

53:06

I mean, I know myself right now and

53:08

I imagine I was dumping minerals the last

53:10

month processing grief and a couple of

53:12

really big losses that I'm not gonna

53:14

be hitting the sauna hard. We're gonna be doing some

53:17

other detox, gentle

53:19

detox support.

53:21

Yeah. And it's in important to mention

53:23

here too, like we just

53:25

did an entire episode about things we've changed our mind about.

53:27

I think the old us,

53:29

like in a past practitioner life,

53:32

we may have been thinking like,

53:34

oh, You don't

53:37

tolerate heat well, and it's a histamine issue. So you

53:39

obviously just need a low histamine diet. Like

53:41

you just need to cut out

53:44

avocados and bananas and tomatoes

53:46

and not eat any leftovers

53:48

no citrus.

53:49

red wine and citrus and like the list goes

53:51

on and on. You know, histamine's not a dirty

53:53

word, like there's histamines all over the place, but

53:57

remember that this is symptom

53:59

suppressive. This is not a healing solution.

54:02

And if you are in a season

54:05

where you're super symptomatic and

54:07

maybe you're very, very itchy and it's the

54:09

summer and there's not really much

54:11

you can do on the foundational

54:13

side of things to make your symptoms go away, now

54:17

it's fine to incorporate a symptom

54:19

suppressive diet if you really need to suppress

54:22

your symptoms right now. So

54:24

in that case, like Diane and I will advise clients

54:26

to cut out some very high

54:28

histamine foods and we'll give them. Some

54:31

tools around lifestyle things you can adjust

54:33

to lower the histamine load in

54:36

certain foods, the way that you prepare them, the way that you store

54:38

them, things like that. Um,

54:42

but ultimately

54:45

the goal is building up

54:47

the resilience, giving your body the tools it needs to break

54:49

down the histamines. Don't make it

54:51

mean something about those foods,

54:54

Like those are off limit

54:56

those are bad foods. 'cause I have

54:58

histamine issues so I can never eat

55:00

chocolate nuts, X, y, z, avocados,

55:03

bananas, tomatoes ever again.

55:05

no life, that's no life to live. Yeah.

55:07

I have a nuanced take here and I, I'm pretty sure we,

55:10

we touched on this in some part in

55:12

one of our last episodes or our sneezy season

55:15

solutions allergies episode.

55:18

So when I was really reactive, I mean,

55:20

there was a time in my life where I was taking

55:22

Claritin D the D that

55:24

had to have that one with the Sudafed.

55:27

Yeah. My daily D had

55:29

to have those carefully toast amphetamines,

55:32

you know, where you go to Walgreens, you gotta

55:34

give them your license, tell them you're not making meth, you're just

55:36

trying to clear your sinuses. Right. So

55:40

there was a time where I was taking that constantly

55:42

and then if I

55:44

fell into the trap of like, let's

55:46

just avoid histamines, then I would be doing away

55:48

with so many foods. I love, however,

55:51

I think it is. Helpful for some

55:53

people who are really reactive to be mindful

55:55

about some of those things. So maybe we're just adjusting

55:57

some of our food while keyword,

56:00

while we are working on

56:02

improving your cycle, improving your digestion,

56:05

improving the function of your gut

56:07

so that you can bring these back. You can clear the, his

56:10

histamines better and tolerate

56:12

a wider variety of food. Variety of food and temperatures

56:15

too. So that's where the best

56:17

results come. It's never gonna be a this

56:19

or that for me, but

56:21

always will look at clients' case by case. I

56:24

have seen where some people, they

56:26

want to completely throw out all of that,

56:29

right? And they're like, well, I heard that orange

56:31

juice and milk is great, so I'm gonna pound

56:33

these. I'm like, but you have diarrhea

56:35

and you're really stuffy. So

56:38

maybe we need to bring a more nuanced, complex

56:40

approach to this instead of just it's, I'm

56:43

avoiding all those foods, or I'm pounding

56:45

all those foods, you

56:47

Yep.

56:48

So let's bring this, really bring

56:50

this home. So what are the resources

56:52

that you need to break down histamine? What

56:54

is keeping your body from doing it? And

56:56

how do we approach detox, uh,

56:59

gentle detox approach through

57:02

the lens of nutritional therapy. So, If

57:05

you have histamine issues, we know that you

57:07

need some gut support. You have to have healthy

57:09

functioning gut in order to

57:11

process and to break down histamine. Make

57:14

sure that it's not running amok. So

57:16

if we were to do a GI map, a gut

57:18

stool test, and you told me that you had histamine

57:21

issues, I would expect to see something like

57:23

low secretory iga. Think

57:25

of that marker as your gut

57:27

army. And when this is low, it's

57:30

gonna tell me that digestion, the

57:32

function of it is low, that it

57:34

is being more react, your digestion, your

57:36

immune system's being more reactive, and

57:39

that you're probably dealing with some of those

57:41

histamine issues that we. Uh, describe.

57:44

So some other things that we might see if we

57:46

were to work one-on-one is are

57:48

you really lacking in some main

57:50

minerals? Do you have no copper

57:52

right now? And thus no enzymes

57:54

to help you break down and to process

57:57

that histamine. Now what I

57:59

don't want you to hear is, okay, maybe

58:01

I'm lacking copper, so that must mean I need

58:03

to supplement with it, right?

58:04

Or maybe I am lacking the resources

58:07

to make the D a O enzyme, so I need to supplement

58:09

with the D A O enzyme.

58:11

Yeah, yeah.

58:12

lot of people out there recommending that.

58:14

There are, so hold your horses. We never

58:16

like to think about.

58:19

Unopposed or single supplement

58:21

solution instead.

58:24

And more broadly, what we could do is focus on

58:26

a well-rounded diet that's going to offer

58:28

things like vitamin A, vitamin C, if

58:30

we're thinking about summer and you

58:32

know, sweating and building resilience

58:35

to heat and general. Let's look

58:37

at some tropical fruits. Let's

58:39

look at those vibrant colored produce

58:42

and things that are hydrating, but also offer

58:44

a lot of antioxidants like that, A and C.

58:47

And we also will invite our

58:49

clients to audit what they are

58:51

currently eating. Did you grow up with a lot

58:53

of processed foods that are high

58:55

in iron and other things

58:57

that throw off your

58:59

mineral and your vitamin balance? Those

59:02

are some things that we look at

59:04

when we're working with clients.

59:05

Yes, absolutely. So I think

59:07

that brings us to minerals. Um, I

59:10

think whenever we're talking about sweat,

59:13

Detox histamine intolerance.

59:15

Really, whenever we're talking about anything, we're

59:19

gonna talk about minerals at some point. But

59:21

when it comes to the summer, when it

59:23

comes to sweating on purpose, when it comes

59:25

to giving your body the resources

59:27

that it needs to tolerate heat, whether you don't

59:30

sweat at all or whether you sweat

59:32

profusely, no matter what you do,

59:35

hydrating deeply mineral

59:37

hydration, giving your

59:39

body the resources that it needs

59:42

to tolerate the stress that you are under

59:44

is going to be so crucial. So

59:47

same, you know, this is also, these are the same resources

59:49

that your body needs to process histamine. So

59:51

it's all gonna be serving that ultimate end goal

59:54

of supporting your stress response, helping

59:56

you better tolerate heat, supporting

59:59

the detox pathways. It's gonna

1:00:01

do lots of really good

1:00:03

steps. So we've done

1:00:05

an episode about this before. Go back and listen to our

1:00:07

Hydration Nation episode.

1:00:09

From season one, a throwback, but

1:00:11

it's a goodie.

1:00:12

Yeah. And um, maybe

1:00:15

we chat about hydration is having a moment,

1:00:17

which is really nice. Like mineral hydration's, having a moment

1:00:19

on the internet. Everyone's all like, I got

1:00:21

my, my, my

1:00:24

My, my

1:00:24

um, I got my packets. Is

1:00:27

that what they're saying? They're like, look at my pockets

1:00:32

I get a lot of questions about specific brands

1:00:34

or, I mean, growing up I thought,

1:00:37

oh, well get Gatorade. And if you've

1:00:39

seen Idiocracy, you're like, oh, electrolytes,

1:00:41

they've got what plants crave. Like that's what you need

1:00:43

is Gatorade, the sports drinks. For

1:00:45

me it was Blue Gatorade.

1:00:48

Or wasn't

1:00:49

Blue. Yeah.

1:00:50

Water?

1:00:51

Yeah. Smart Water?

1:00:52

Vitamin

1:00:53

Smart. Oh, vitamin Water. Yeah. Yeah. Drank a lot

1:00:55

of that. Oh, that was gross. Um,

1:00:57

blue Gatorade or there used to be like a white

1:01:00

Gatorade that was really good. And

1:01:02

then it kind of changed flavors and then it was not

1:01:04

good. I

1:01:06

Glacial something. They always had such intense

1:01:08

I remember I used to go ice skating.

1:01:11

I was really into ice skating when I was a kid. I don't feel

1:01:13

like we never talked about that, but I used to take ice skating lessons

1:01:16

and after ice skating lessons, I

1:01:18

would always have a bag of onion rings and a blue

1:01:20

Gatorade. Disgusting.

1:01:23

That's a combo. Very

1:01:25

cloyingly, sweet and salty.

1:01:29

Um,

1:01:30

Not the sodium we want.

1:01:32

No, but that's probably, my body was craving

1:01:34

it, so I was giving it a shot. But

1:01:37

yeah, liquid iv, L M N

1:01:39

T I've even seen needed that, like

1:01:41

prenatal with a big influencer

1:01:43

budget.

1:01:43

Oh, we're about to get ads. They, they have a big

1:01:45

marketing

1:01:46

listening.

1:01:46

all their subies.

1:01:48

Yeah. Um, I know

1:01:50

I said that maybe we should like review some of

1:01:52

them and talk a little bit about the mineral

1:01:55

forms and balance, but URI

1:01:57

is already up for his first time of

1:01:59

the night, so I don't know that we'll have time to break that down

1:02:01

right now. But the

1:02:04

T L D R is. None

1:02:07

of those are hidden it for me as far

1:02:09

as forms of minerals, as far as like

1:02:11

weird other ingredients. I

1:02:14

think in a pinch, maybe some of them could be okay,

1:02:16

but I'd rather just carry around some salt with me

1:02:18

and like buy a coconut water.

1:02:20

You know,

1:02:21

the most accessible right, is. Chances

1:02:24

are you have some sea salt, not the table salt

1:02:27

because it could never do the same thing, but

1:02:29

real sea salt that used for cooking. Little pinch

1:02:31

will do ya. We love redmond's

1:02:33

and we like coconut water. So

1:02:36

great combo there that you can find pretty

1:02:38

much anywhere. Yeah, maybe some in the future we

1:02:40

do a little audit of some of these

1:02:42

popular brands. Um,

1:02:45

actually a listener sent a dmm.

1:02:47

I know I screenshotted it somewhere and she's listening

1:02:49

and like yelling at her, her phone,

1:02:51

but she reached out to, I think it was Element

1:02:54

and asked why their ratios

1:02:56

were what they were. She might've been a, a fellow

1:02:58

practitioner too. I can see a

1:03:00

place where some of these, let's say if you

1:03:02

are, you are vomit, you

1:03:04

were chumming, like Adina was over the side of the boat

1:03:06

in the hot Hawaiian sun. You

1:03:08

had stomach fruit poisoning. You were sweating

1:03:11

a lot. So that's where some of my clients will pregame.

1:03:14

And post-game Sauna with, with,

1:03:16

um, some of these packets. But

1:03:19

I think that thinking that you need to have

1:03:21

a package of these on hand

1:03:23

every day, it's a little bit of a

1:03:25

misplaced, like priority.

1:03:27

So it's just not something that I think most

1:03:30

people need. Um, Neil

1:03:32

who works outside Sweat and Buckets,

1:03:34

he has to be more mindful in a different way. But like

1:03:36

we're saying, there are probably things in your kitchen

1:03:39

that you can put together for a sort of upgrade

1:03:42

array, as we like to call it.

1:03:44

so this was actually came from a listener, because

1:03:46

we called it upgrader, upgraded

1:03:48

Gatorade, and one of our shitheads was

1:03:50

like, you missed the opportunity

1:03:52

to call it upgrader aid. Someone

1:03:54

unlike

1:03:55

I hope she's proud of

1:03:56

I know. So anyways, we. Yeah,

1:03:59

we've given, we've given many recommendations

1:04:01

for upgrade aid recipes in the past.

1:04:04

I can tell you what I'm sipping on. Lately,

1:04:06

it was just a Jewish fast day. So I was fasting

1:04:08

for 25 hours and I drank

1:04:10

about six of this beverage before the fast

1:04:12

and I felt amazing. And it was

1:04:15

coconut water, pomegranate

1:04:17

juice, 'cause our pomegranate just came in season

1:04:19

and they are so good little

1:04:21

orange juice and a whole lot

1:04:24

of sea salt. And again, it's

1:04:26

going to depend on

1:04:29

what you specifically need, which is another

1:04:31

reason why I don't love these packets because some people

1:04:33

are gonna need more potassium. Some people are gonna need way more

1:04:35

sodium. Some people can't tolerate that much sodium

1:04:38

right away. So I'd like them to go slowly. Like how

1:04:40

have diarrhea or they get bloated.

1:04:41

Yeah. How many clients have tried l m mentee and then just

1:04:44

like, shit their pans, you know?

1:04:46

And I do not want that diarrhea on my conscience,

1:04:48

so I'm not gonna be recommending it to y'all on

1:04:50

masse. Um, so your current

1:04:52

fave sounds really good. I have

1:04:54

So good. It's tar. Sweet. So

1:04:56

good.

1:04:56

I've been really into acidic

1:04:59

chart things that make the roof of my mouth hurt like

1:05:01

You would love this.

1:05:02

Yeah. So I've been doing half

1:05:04

an op and I split it with Neil

1:05:07

half and a lemon lime op. Squeeze

1:05:10

of fresh lime juice. I love it.

1:05:12

Limey. And then I do coconut water, but

1:05:14

it has to be like harmless harvest. Um,

1:05:16

because some of them taste,

1:05:18

know what they taste like. Diane,

1:05:20

I think they don't taste right.

1:05:23

And it definitely has to be cold. Lots of ice

1:05:25

lot on, um, vacation.

1:05:28

Well, not vacation. When I went home

1:05:30

this past weekend, it was a trip

1:05:33

I had, um, it was a cocktail

1:05:35

that was called an ora. What was it?

1:05:38

Some crush. This restaurant was

1:05:40

known for their drink. They had crushed ice and they had

1:05:42

orange juice, nectar. I don't know what nectar

1:05:44

was. Was it honey something orange

1:05:47

juice, nectar, lime juice, some coconut

1:05:49

and a little pineapple. And I read that as

1:05:51

listed and I was like, that sounds sweet. I think it had

1:05:54

vodka, no rum. And I said,

1:05:56

let's add a lot more lime juice because

1:05:58

I'd rather it be more limey coconutty.

1:06:00

Mm-hmm.

1:06:01

And my friend ordered the same one, like as,

1:06:04

as it was written. And she's like, oh, yours tastes way better

1:06:06

with more coconut and lime in it. And it was. Delicious.

1:06:09

You could definitely hold alcohol and it would be really

1:06:11

lovely and refreshing.

1:06:13

My tongue just got very, need

1:06:15

that now. Um, okay.

1:06:18

Quick, we gotta round it out. I gotta go feed a baby so

1:06:21

quick. We talked through a lot

1:06:23

today. Some quick summertime shifts

1:06:25

for better sweat and health in

1:06:27

this sweaty summer. S. People

1:06:31

still saying that? Are people still writing S Z N?

1:06:34

yeah, well, I mean, L M T took vowels out, so

1:06:37

why wouldn't we? So first thing,

1:06:39

mineral hydration, we just gave you a couple options

1:06:41

you can upgrade or aid. I give

1:06:43

my one-on-one clients customized

1:06:45

options and recipes, especially if they're doing

1:06:47

H T M A. We cater it to what their main

1:06:49

minerals are doing or not doing. You

1:06:51

can do slow and steady. Exposure

1:06:54

to sun and heat, especially if you're someone

1:06:56

dealing with a lot of histamine issues. So

1:06:59

don't be going in there cycling through the sauna

1:07:01

and the cold plunge, but like low and slow

1:07:03

heat going outside for a walk early

1:07:05

in the morning or in the evening. Especially if it's hot

1:07:07

as hail where you live. Mm-hmm.

1:07:10

totally. And then don't look to these like

1:07:12

trendy recovery tools. Just

1:07:15

expose yourself to the elements

1:07:17

and sweat. Don't spend the entire

1:07:20

summer. Hold up in your ac, get

1:07:22

to the beach swing a kettlebell outside.

1:07:25

Go for a hot girl, hot walk.

1:07:28

You know, like slow and steady exposure

1:07:30

to natural elements.

1:07:32

I almost blew my water out my nose 'cause she

1:07:34

said just go outside and expose yourself.

1:07:38

Just go outside and expose yourself, but

1:07:40

Just take your top off in the sun.

1:07:43

before you get arrested, get your, your

1:07:46

tatas and your limp flowing outside.

1:07:49

We love it. All right, well

1:07:51

that's it for us this week.

1:07:53

Oh, damn. Uh, gotta

1:07:55

go and stay

1:07:58

hydrated. Stay sassy. Unclench

1:08:01

that butthole, and we'll see you next week.

1:08:03

Bye.

1:08:04

Bye.
