It's.

0:07

Freezing. And you can hear a gentleman. Well, hello.

0:10

And today we are live once again from the college e-sports.

0:13

May the force be with you event here in Rancho Cordova.

0:16

Beautiful Rancho Cordova. But what about this rain? Such a rainy day.

0:19

So the weather here is just crazy.

0:22

Well, yesterday was nice and sunny and clear, and we just have a flash storm coming through.

0:25

It is unreal heavy. Heavy, like, you know, early February rain.

0:29

It's crazy. Yeah. Yesterday when I was here on the news, like, oh, it's going to rain.

0:32

Like maybe sprinkles. Maybe in the morning, maybe like 15, 20 minutes.

0:36

We've had plenty of that before. But no, this is a full on like storm rain coming through

0:40

the stream is going down the parking lot, which I mean, hopefully

0:43

people will just rush indoors and want to get checked.

0:45

Check out the event. But, it's it's pretty intimidating.

0:48

I probably wouldn't want to go out to my car if I was at home still.

0:50

You know, we have boat launches up front. There you go. There you go.

0:54

If you're going to be trapped in somewhere, it's better to be trapped in a place like this is stuck at home. So.

0:58

Yeah. So this is a very first time, this convention here at Metro Cordova.

1:00

And hopefully it does very well make sure all of us very active city.

1:03

And we want to make sure that that the e-sports people are being celebrated.

1:06

But there's more than just e-sports here. John, what else have you seen?

1:08

We haven't actually gone around and looked at all the tables.

1:10

Not not a lot. I know for a while we have some video game developers that are here.

1:14

Extra life is here. Once again, I'd like to be able to talk to. Actually, I'd like to hear them on the podcast, actually. Let's work on that.

1:19

I saw at least two board game, you know, tape booths here.

1:22

Yeah. And it's such a big. And they were actually at the Capitol

1:25

Creative Showcase we were at a couple weeks ago. Yeah, that's one of them was.

1:28

Yeah. It's a growing industry that's really cool. That's pretty cool.

1:31

Odin makes us here, which makes a lot of the props and stuff like that.

1:34

You go for cosplay. so it would be like, nice.

1:36

I already see a Thor helmet that I must have.

1:40

Oh my God, that's a Lich King helmet. Two. Oh can I buy that. Oh my. Oh I'm sure they'll sell it.

1:43

Yeah. Jordan I might break the bank.

1:45

Who needs money. it's already.

1:48

Well yeah. They have a YouTube channel. We'll talk to them as well.

1:51

already talking to people. That will be interview in the future.

1:54

boy, John, I tell you though, for interviews for geek freaks, we are booked out to August.

1:57

Wow. Yeah. Oh my God. Yeah, it's going to be busy. Been very busy.

2:02

but yeah. So, this looks like it's going to be really fun event.

2:05

It's gonna be a virtual event as we kind of pioneer a new road forward for a brand new convention.

2:10

It's a great venue, too. Very spacious.

2:12

Well, you know, laid out

2:15

we have the screens, we have, Smash Brothers, on both sides of the room.

2:18

So everybody go watch Smash Brothers go down. Yeah. what do you think about your smash skills?

2:22

What do you think you can. I'm terrible. Back in the day, when it was new, you know, I played a fair amount.

2:27

I thought I got okay with a couple characters, but then I played a little bit at the Capital Creative Showcase and realized

2:32

I am god awful. I cannot beat a four year old.

2:35

So, yeah. And have to play a lot to get back in there. How about you?

2:40

I I'm one of those guys. It's like the buttons aren't right, and I have to fix the buttons for all.

2:44

Blame the controller for something. I when I'm, like, practicing it in my my best.

2:49

I'm okay, but Kirby's my cheater. Move.

2:51

Yeah, because with Kirby, you can turn into the rock, you know?

2:53

And he's pretty much invulnerable when you start where

2:56

you just land down on somebody, crash, You're safe.

2:59

Yeah. And we'll see. Like, I used to use Yoshi a lot at his cheat.

3:02

What is it? He could fly back from so far off the map.

3:05

And in that little egg pop is just a fun, a nuisance.

3:08

Yeah, a fun little attack. Well, and if you're pro with Yoshi, which you were for sure did.

3:13

Yeah. What, are you able to grab them and turn them in with? Egg on the edge.

3:16

And I just think as an egg. Yep. Matter. You do? Yeah. For sure.

3:20

so I think this can be the where it's, first announced.

3:23

We need a plan with the other geek freaks members.

3:26

A smash with this tournament?

3:28

Yep. At the studio. And I think you're right.

3:31

Yeah, because I was just saying, like, we need to have some board game that would give us some time.

3:34

Maybe we plan a few months out so we can all refresh our skills

3:37

and then do a full on tournament, and maybe we record most of it or all of it.

3:41

Well, you know me, I got to get content from everything. So yeah, review it afterwards either way.

3:46

But yeah, that'd be fun. Yeah. Because we, you know, we're doing

3:48

deep d and D but man, I tell you, the d timing is so tough, though.

3:53

We can't tell Tyler until the last minute because he's already got enough skill.

3:55

Oh, yeah. We need to nerf him somehow. Yeah, maybe.

3:57

Maybe we'll get him a couple of drinks one handed, using a control.

4:02

I have almost beaten Tyler one time. Yeah, by playing Kirby.

4:05

And just like, rock down, rock down, rock down all the time.

4:08

And so it's a real cheater move, but it works out well for me.

4:11

I like it, yeah. So today not only do we have this great e-sports, e-sports event, but

4:15

it's also May the 4th Star Wars day and it's free Comic Book Day.

4:19

Yeah. So it's just it's an amazing day in the geekdom.

4:21

So let's talk about some both of those right now.

4:23

Jonathan, let's start with Free Comic Book Day. Do you remember your very first comic book?

4:28

I don't honestly, when we were kids, I didn't have a lot of comic books.

4:32

I would give you a lot of comics. I remember that much.

4:34

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, for me, my first one was the wedding edition.

4:39

The wedding album is called, Superman Getting Married to Lois Lane in the 90s.

4:43

and it was such a cool comic book. And I remember, like,

4:46

I like you know, Superman and Batman from the animated series and was kind of being introduced to them through that.

4:52

but then I went to a bookshop, went to Cartoon Comics,

4:55

which luckily have donated, some comic books today for us to give out to people.

4:58

Yeah. and I saw this all white cover, gorgeous cover, has the Superman emblem.

5:04

And, so I went and bought it, and that was my favorite comic book.

5:07

And it's framed on my wall today. Yeah, yeah, that's pretty cool.

5:09

My favorite page is it's about halfway through.

5:12

It's a double sided page and it's Superman who's like, how am I gonna get married?

5:16

I gotta watch Metropolis. It's constantly being attacked. Yeah. It's badminton.

5:19

Don't worry. We got it. And flying overhead is Green Lantern.

5:21

All the superheroes in the DC come together to to cover his post

5:25

while he's getting married, which is just like, such.

5:27

I mean, that's like, that's some of the best DC work right there is.

5:30

Beautiful. Oh, yeah. Now that I think about it the first time, and it probably was my first comic book

5:34

that I owned, but the first time I remember buying comic books was Elk Grove cards and comics.

5:38

I remember I was going through their bins and I wanted to get into collecting

5:42

comic books. Yeah, I start hobbies a lot of times this way too,

5:44

where I'll invest a lot into it and then not continue.

5:47

but I went through all the dollar bins and got a bunch of Green Lantern comics.

5:51

I was like, oh, he's one of my favorites. I'm gonna I'm going to start collecting them.

5:54

And then I try to get everyone. And then I think I eventually realized how many everyone is.

5:59

He's just continued new series all the time.

6:02

So there's thousands and thousands of issues. and my,

6:05

my Achilles heel, I guess. Is it, I want it to be a complete set.

6:09

You know, I want to have 100% of the run.

6:12

And unless you're going to get the, you know, the book version that comes out

6:15

afterwards, it's really hard to get all the single issues together.

6:18

Yeah, yeah. And, you know, or you get them week by week as they come out.

6:21

That's probably the best way to do it. so yeah, but yeah, I think that was my first time

6:25

buying any was Greenland Greenlanders like your favorite.

6:28

Now he's he's at least one of your favorite. Yeah, definitely one of my favorite. Yeah, yeah.

6:31

yeah, I'm a tradesman now. I have to buy the trades, trades, books.

6:34

I can't buy the individual comics anymore. It's just too hard to keep a track, especially when you're an adult.

6:38

You know, it's just too hard. Yeah, and the trades look really nice on a shelf.

6:42

Honestly, you can only display so many comic books individually.

6:44

But if you could put the trade up on your shelf. Yeah, that looks good. Yeah. Especially like Marvel, stuff like that.

6:48

Make sure that all the spines are good. Yeah. And make sure they match stuff like that. So it's is really neat.

6:58

All right. We are back recording guys. We are not recording as much as we thought

7:01

we were going to record because holy cow has it been busy today.

7:04

We've had I mean how many people do they come across this with Jonathan.

7:07

a couple hundred, a couple hundred, honestly,

7:09

we brought a ton of prizes to give out free comic books.

7:12

Wonderful. How many comics we gave out? It's.

7:15

We're tapped. Yeah, they're all out.

7:17

You know, what I loved is how many times I heard. Oh, this is my very first comic book.

7:20

Yeah, actually, it's no surprise so many people hadn't had comics.

7:24

Just a bunch of little kids that were winning them. Yeah, and that first comic book, when you first crack it open,

7:28

you start to see that art and then stuff like that. You're bound to just want to know more, you know?

7:33

And there's so there's such a vast world of comic books, there's so many options.

7:36

So once you get the first one and you realize that you like that medium

7:39

and you go, you know, looking into it a little more, you'll find tons of your, you know, your flavor.

7:44

So absolutely. That's fun. It is wonderful. Yeah.

7:47

well, yeah, we were giving away so many candies

7:49

and I like on our on our prize wheel here we had energy drink and I can't we how many times the little kids won the energy drink?

7:54

We're like, mom, dad, you want to do candy? Yeah. Yeah, yeah, always.

7:58

Or sometimes a parent will want the energy drink and then, you know,

8:00

we'll get a candy for the kids, have them spin again. Yeah.

8:03

That's great. so. So you went to the ribbon cutting earlier.

8:06

Can you talk to me a little bit about that? Yeah, yeah. Let's see. It was. It was fun.

8:11

It took a little bit to get going, obviously. Yeah. There's a lot of lot of people to get it. Yeah, yeah.

8:14

And then we had representatives from the, Rancho Cordova,

8:19

Chamber of Commerce. Yeah. Chamber of Commerce. Yeah.

8:21

So they spoke a little bit about, you know, the the program and the grants.

8:26

they helped funded this in the city and everything.

8:28

And obviously we we had the, cosplayers from the five first.

8:32

I don't remember which division it was, but they were, so cool up on the stage

8:35

holding the ribbon for the ribbon cutting was. Yeah, for me.

8:38

And then after immediately afterwards, they did the cosplay contest on stage,

8:42

which was a lot of fun. And they broke it up by age groups and had three winners.

8:47

Yeah. but yeah, it was really cool. That's so cool.

8:49

Yeah, you could tell it's a community coming out together and forging a new event together.

8:54

Yeah. And for being such a rainy day, that room, I can tell you

8:56

it was completely packed every year. Yeah, we.

8:59

When we started this recording, we were like, I don't know, it's raining pretty good out there.

9:02

I kind of worried, Holy cow. Yeah, people are waterproof, man here.

9:05

The people of Rancho Cordova especially are excited about, you know, this kind of event.

9:11

Speaking of the city, got to meet the vice, vice mayor.

9:14

Wonderful to hear about the initiatives and the

9:17

the effort they're putting into embracing this culture, bringing people out.

9:20

Yeah, your neighbors and stuff like that. It's been really cool to hear about all that.

9:23

Yeah, they're pouring into their community. And so great to see.

9:25

Hopefully, you know, neighboring, cities see the same thing and continue to mimic that.

9:30

This year. We got stickers. We got candy. Yeah. Free to

9:35

you guys. Can we do I guess we're doing it right now that.

9:40

You get stuck in there. If you want to record, you want to answer a question and record it?

9:43

Heck yeah. Okay, here we go. Next I'm going to put a question out of the box okay. Ready?

9:47

Okay. Does Superman's Clark Kent, disguise make sense?

9:52

Superman's disguise. Have you seen Superman?

9:54

He has a he just dresses like a normal guy with glasses.

9:57

He's Clark, and I'm like a suit, and he's Clark Kent. But then he goes into a phone booth and changes

10:01

real quick, and he has his keep and everything. Does that make sense?

10:04

I think for in it, but I think I. Can understand how that kind of works.

10:07

Do you think that's fooling anybody? No.

10:10

Or would you be to see right. Probably not. Because facial features are things facial.

10:15

I don't think.

10:17

I mean, that might be a little like it might work a little bit like.

10:21

But it just like wig and glasses and.

10:23

Outfits, I don't know. Yeah. He goes from being kind of nerdy.

10:26

He plays up a little bit nerdy, and then all of a sudden, Superman,

10:29

like, big and buff and confident, you know?

10:31

But yeah, I agree. I don't think it's enough of a disguise to, you know, really fool anybody.

10:35

Yeah. Now we've got to mention you're actually one of the winners of the show, correct?

10:40

Yeah. What did you win?

10:42

I won the cosplay contest.

10:44

Yeah. Making a cosplay of an alien

10:49

that I named Luna, because it's my cat's name that I wanted to.

10:53

Yeah. How did you make that? So I bought a cat mask off Amazon, and then I cut. I

11:02

used mesh to make it of, like, a one way thing.

11:05

You like? Yeah. Can't see you doing that.

11:08

Well, I see what you can see through noise.

11:11

It works perfectly. Cool. And then I filtered it out to cut your ears.

11:17

One little sloppy it. How did you color the felt?

11:21

I used the make nice mountains I.

11:23

Can never use again because I made a big mess. Yeah.

11:27

And then, Yeah, a little intense.

11:30

That sucks. Really did a great job. Congratulations on winning. Yes.

11:34

Neat. Do you have any future projects you're thinking about making next?

11:36

Yeah, maybe I'm working on, like, a wolf

11:40

one right now because I, I might I selling them.

11:43

My friends like them a lot and I want to like see other people

11:47

through the internet. Like them too. Yeah.

11:49

And that's cool. I'm going to try.

11:52

And keep it up. That's awesome. That's really cool.

11:55

You want to answer your question? All right when talking to the microphone.

11:58

Here we go. You ready? Yeah. Which was the last science

12:01

fiction film you saw.

12:05

science fiction. Yeah.

12:08

The kind of science fiction. Like you know, Star Wars, Star Trek. Yeah.

12:12

Anything that's not a. True story like that because you can shrink and grow to.

12:15

You like to him. Yeah. Yeah. Oh yeah yeah it.

12:18

Man it man. Quantum mania I saw in the theaters.

12:22

That's the first time I saw the quantum anyone.

12:24

And then I saw it like last week. Yeah. How did you like it?

12:28

It is amazing. Yeah. Nice. What's your favorite Marvel movie?

12:32

Oh, my favorite Marvel movie.

12:34

Not going to be in, man. It's probably something like spider man or endgame.

12:39

Yeah. Which game was so good. There's a lot of Spider-Man movies. Which one do you think you like best?

12:43

Oh, I was I'm a huge fan of the original three.

12:46

Yeah, yeah. Nice.

12:48

Not known to spider man. from, like the late 90s. Right. Where Tobey Maguire.

12:53

No, no, that's not the original three for you, is it?

12:56

No. Tobey Maguire. Yeah, that was the original three.

12:59

And then. So. Yeah. Spider-Man.

13:01

Yeah. Yeah. It's good. Spider-Man. It's a good one. What did you think about the new Spider-Man

13:04

when they had all three Spider-Man come together?

13:06

Oh, that was absurd. Yeah.

13:09

That's absurd. Yeah.

13:15

All right, everybody, we are now here with Amber from Extra Live.

13:18

How are you doing, Amber? I'm doing great. How are you doing? I'm doing excellent.

13:21

It's been a lot of fun here at the Rancho Cordova event.

13:23

Can you tell us a little bit about Extra Life? I can, so Extra Life is a charity that uses games and gaming

13:30

to raise funds for Children's Miracle Network hospitals all across the U.S.

13:33

and Canada. here in Sacramento, we raise it for UC Davis Children's Hospital.

13:38

So every dollar we raise stays local and goes to help our local kids.

13:42

Now, how can your average video gamer help out with this program?

13:46

So there is lots of ways to get involved with Extra Life.

13:49

our video gamers, we have a lot of streamers

13:53

that like to stream and raise funds for charity that way,

13:57

but if you're not a streamer, you can hold little mini game video game days at your house.

14:02

Yeah, invite your friends and family. Tell them to come on over. We're going to do a charity game night.

14:06

Have them all contribute like five, ten, 20 bucks and all gifts to charity.

14:11

Have a little mini mini tournament, maybe split

14:14

some of the money to charities, some of it to you. The winner.

14:17

Yeah. And there's lots of different things. And if you're not a video gamer, you can do the same thing.

14:21

Board games are really popular. We have several people that do like donkey games,

14:27

just like a one off for charity that night. And it's, you know, $10 buy in to come play the game.

14:31

and lots of different things like that same with board game tournaments.

14:35

Just have a bunch of board games out, have your friends come, some munchies and all that good stuff.

14:40

And yeah, there's lots of great ways to get involved.

14:43

How did you get involved with the program? So I started out by supporting a friend of mine who was a streamer.

14:50

and in November, Extra Life has a game day,

14:54

and it's 24 hours of gaming to raise funds for the kids.

14:58

And so he went do the 24 hours, and I supported him.

15:02

and then I started building online communities.

15:06

I ran Minecraft servers for teenagers and young adults.

15:11

And I thought, you know what? I would love it to show them that you can take something you love, like gaming,

15:17

and use it as a powerful force for good to help other people.

15:22

And so and plus, it sounded just like fun to play video games for 24 hours.

15:26

I mean, who doesn't want a game for 24 hours with no guilt?

15:28

It's great. Yeah. So, so yeah, so I started doing that for, for those reasons,

15:34

I really wanted to show people that they can take their passions

15:37

and use it for something other than just selfish reasons.

15:42

and to help other people. And so that's kind of how I got involved.

15:45

That's perfect. What game do you feel like gains the most attention for?

15:49

extra life? Yeah. Oh, gosh.

15:52

Right now Fortnite is so big, Minecraft seems like it's a really good corner.

15:56

Minecraft is always a good corner. I like that one. Fortnite.

16:00

Honestly, any game that you enjoy can be used for good.

16:04

I personally am a horror streamer, so I like to play spooky scary games.

16:10

And I use interactive ways.

16:13

there's a lot of different things. There's decks for.

16:17

There's, crowd control, things like that where people can spend money.

16:21

and then I take all of those funds and I don't need them back.

16:25

And so, oftentimes I'll have people either donate to my charity and then I gift

16:30

them, like, free decks for crates or extra coins or things like that.

16:34

and so that tends to be my big because people love to scare the crap out of me.

16:38

So that is how I raise funds. but there's lots of things I know.

16:42

I know gamers who do,

16:49

Oh, gosh, what's the word, where you try to do the games really fast?

16:52

like speedrun speedruns? Speedruns?

16:54

they'll say, you know, for X amount of money, I have to stop and start over again.

17:00

Yeah. You know, and so people will donate to keep them from finishing.

17:03

Oh, wow. And they have to stop and start over again.

17:06

Or, every time somebody donates $10, I will intentionally die and start over.

17:12

This whatever I lose or whatever game it is. So there's lots of different ways of using the games you love.

17:17

but really, it's whatever games you enjoy.

17:20

That's such a cool way to. Not only is it just great cause, but you're also being a very creative

17:24

streamer, which is bringing more value to your brand as a as a streamer itself.

17:28

Yeah, exactly. And so yeah, it's a great way of incorporating,

17:32

getting your community involved and creating that entertainment value

17:35

that we're all looking for. Yeah. Speaking of community, has extra life built a strong community of gamers

17:39

and streamers? Absolutely. There is a huge community of gamers and streamers out there, and some

17:45

that are dedicated to fundraising year round, others

17:48

that just enjoy the the 24 hours of gaming in November.

17:52

and then everything in between. So there is a huge, community out there.

17:58

we're all, there's a national discord, so there's lots of people in there.

18:02

I'm always looking for people to connect to. and we've started partnering with different extra life communities,

18:08

throughout the country, and coming together and doing some online gaming events that way.

18:13

That is so cool. I love that it's not only national,

18:16

but you can find a local branch as well and support local as well as super.

18:20

That's what's the best part about Extra Life is that you can support

18:23

whatever your local hospital is, or whatever hospital is personal to you.

18:27

Like, I know lots of people that, who were either

18:31

treated in a hospital themselves or had family members treated in a hospital.

18:34

That doesn't that isn't where they live. Yeah.

18:37

And that's the hospital they raised for because it has personal meaning for them.

18:40

And I think that's pretty neat. That is amazing program.

18:44

Now before we head out, I mean, first off we're gonna have all the links

18:47

in description for extra life and how you guys can help out too.

18:50

But I want to pull out three cards out of the geek box.

18:52

Are you ready to answer some questions? Okay. Let's go. Here we go. First up, we have

18:58

which are your most prized DVDs?

19:01

Oh, my. Most. You still have DVDs?

19:04

I absolutely still have DVDs.

19:06

I have got most prized DVD.

19:12

okay. I quite like my Lord of the rings trilogy.

19:17

Yeah. we have, like, that souped up edition.

19:20

Of course, the. Extra extensions and all of the extra, all the extra behind the scenes stuff.

19:26

I love those. That's probably my most favorite. Yeah.

19:30

and then I have, like, really old ones.

19:34

I like the movies. I hesitate to call them classics, but at this point, like Mrs.

19:38

Doubtfire and like. Oh, it pains me that those are so old school now.

19:42

But they're awesome.

19:44

Great movies. Those are my favorite. Yeah.

19:46

they never get old. You know, Matilda, all the that whole generation.

19:50

So. Good. Next I have for you.

19:52

when have you most used?

19:54

I'm sorry. Most wanted to use a cheat code in a game.

19:57

Most wanted to use a cheat code. Oh, my gosh.

19:59

Mario Brothers, Super Mario Brothers, the original.

20:03

Yeah. Oh, my gosh.

20:06

There were some especially, like, level eight with all the bombs

20:10

and all the thing shooting out. Oh, it's a mess. Yeah.

20:12

I was like, oh my gosh, get me out of here.

20:14

I just want to like fly through this and not. And that was back when you had to get the little gold add

20:19

on for their, mass system.

20:22

And And I was like, oh, get me through this one absolutely every time.

20:27

Did did you ever master on the level three thing?

20:29

We're able to bounce on the shell and like, get infinite lives.

20:32

I have never been able to master that. Yeah, it took me a while, and I don't know that I could do it today.

20:38

because it is hard. It is very hard. Hard.

20:40

But I have successfully done it on multiple occasions.

20:43

I am a I have been practicing that since I was like seven years old

20:46

and have not mastered that yet. So. And so that's where I'm at right now.

20:51

how often do you dust your action figures?

20:54

Not often enough. Me too.

20:56

I have a whole pops collection that is on sale. my.

21:01

And my bookshelf behind my streaming set up.

21:03

And it is. I have all of the Lord of the rings characters.

21:07

Okay. and then, like, I have a couple of characters from, like,

21:11

Princess Bride and like, like I have all the League of Legends ones

21:16

except for one, because that was a special edition

21:18

for TwitchCon one year, and then that's like $600 a pop to get those on that one.

21:23

Yeah. Oh, like.

21:28

Once a year maybe. Yeah. If that if if that.

21:31

I have honestly thought about like, you know, what would be a good TikTok

21:34

channel is just dusting on my Funko Pops because I, I'm at the point

21:37

now where I'm like, okay, you cannot buy another Funko Pop! Once you take it out of the box.

21:40

That way you have to like and you got to enjoy it. You know? To be fair, all of mine are out of the box.

21:44

Yeah, you do. Now at this point. One I didn't have the space for them all in the box.

21:48

And two, I was like, I'm not gonna sell these.

21:50

I want to enjoy them exactly from all out of the box.

21:53

But I have like, the clear plastic risers.

21:55

Okay. Nice. Up on stairs. Yeah.

21:58

And all separated out. So. So yeah.

22:01

Anytime you watch any Geek Freaks YouTube video, guys, you'll see my my pop collections right behind me as well.

22:05

Yeah, they're proud displays. Fantastic.

22:09

Well, Amber, thank you so much for joining me today guys. Again extra life. Make sure you check out all the description down below

22:13

and follow those links. Thank you again for joining me I appreciate it.

22:16

Thank you. That's great.

22:20

All right friend, we're gonna go over some of the news.

22:22

All right. If you haven't heard the latest updates okay.

22:26

So did you hear that?

22:28

I'm gonna butcher his name. I used to think, until I seen it written.

22:30

I thought his name was Juan Carlo Esposito. Is Giancarlo Esposito. Yeah.

22:34

So is that how you say John Giancarlo?

22:36

I n I you know, I don't know if he's magic, so I just go with whatever ruins his name.

22:41

I was gonna say Gian Carlo. Yeah, whatever.

22:43

Giancarlo. Esposito. do you hear that?

22:46

He's been confirmed, for him, for a role in joining in the MCU.

22:51

Yeah, I heard about this, but we don't know what roles for,

22:54

and he says it's not a professor X, it sounds like.

22:57

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Which so. And yeah, I think we heard, like a teaser before that he was joining,

23:02

but we didn't get anything confirmed. Now we know he is in fact joining the MCU.

23:05

We don't know what character he's going to play.

23:08

Before we get into our guesses, do you think he'd be better for a, hero

23:12

or a villain? I say that because we've seen him primarily in villain roles,

23:16

and he's played very good ones. Moff Gideon yeah, in, in The Mandalorian and,

23:22

Gus Fring in Breaking Bad, I think is my favorite role force.

23:25

But, so I think he's naturally skewed from what

23:28

we've seen so far to be a villain. But I'm curious how well he would play a hero

23:33

or a good, good character, you know? Yeah. And if he's going to be a hero, I think he has to be somebody

23:37

who's solemn like, that's why professor X is such a good choice,

23:39

because he's got such a good speaking voice

23:42

and you want something like that. But yeah, I'm not entirely sure who he would be or good or bad, I think bad.

23:47

The easy choice. Now, what do you think? Yeah, I think bad.

23:49

I think that's an easy choice for, you know, casting in the right

23:53

the people that are putting him in there. But I think for his career

23:56

it'd be really interesting and exciting to see him play a good guy role.

24:00

Yeah, especially on the mainstream like that. What we do know is it's now professor X

24:03

and he says it's a very big character, essentially.

24:06

So we have Fantastic Four coming up.

24:08

We have a lot of big projects coming up. We have X-Men coming up as well.

24:12

Do you think it's in any of those two?

24:14

I mean, there's so much, like

24:16

X-Men has a lot of, you know, villains that, you know, come and go.

24:19

I mean, know great sinister Mr. Sinister.

24:21

Yeah, yeah. I don't know, I would love it if he was a hero, but.

24:25

So, yeah, I can't imagine him not a villain, to be honest.

24:28

Even be truthful. If it's not professor X, it has to be a villain in my book.

24:32

Yeah. so it

24:35

what I would prefer to see, honestly, hero or villain is that they make up

24:38

a new character that this isn't somebody that's already super established.

24:42

Okay? Because we we I mean, we're just seeing the same stuff kind of

24:45

brought back and revived and changed sometimes a little bit to make it fresh.

24:49

but it's nice to have completely new characters who've never heard of.

24:54

Yeah, every once in a while. And sometimes, especially if you

24:56

and you cast them with a great actor like this, it could be a groundbreaking new character that completely, you know, changes

25:02

the the industry or. Yeah.

25:04

So, yeah, I think it'd be cool if it was a new character, but what do you think?

25:09

I think he's going to be Galactus. You think so?

25:11

Yeah. Because Galactus is such an important character for the Fantastic Four,

25:15

which is coming up. Yeah. And I have a feeling that he's going to be,

25:17

like, chasing them from universal universe.

25:19

And the key that would go like this is you're not going to see him

25:21

swing into much, especially in the MCU. They try to keep it as grounded as possible.

25:25

So it isn't Galactus the big like, comet coming.

25:29

Yeah, he's the devourer of worlds. Yeah, it's a massive.

25:32

Yeah, it's like a comet or a big black hole that's.

25:34

Well, no, no no, no, that's the fantastic for a movie.

25:37

Yeah. No. Galactus is.

25:39

We're looking at a Gundam right now. That's Galactus.

25:42

Oh, so it's just a very big humanoid.

25:45

Humanoid. But, yeah, it's been shaped for the brief of it all.

25:49

Is basically, he's a humanoid from a species that existed before the planet.

25:52

Before the galaxy was reset. Yeah, and a God entity basically said, okay, let there be life,

25:57

but let me get rid of the old life first, okay?

26:00

And he's a survivor from that. and he has to devour planets, right?

26:03

So he's going from place to place. Different planet. He's bigger than the planet, right?

26:06

He's far bigger than. Yeah. He literally devours the planet.

26:08

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Okay, so but this I'm saying is you're going to depict that in the MCU and he's to be grounded.

26:12

I think that's something that John you to Esposito if you're gonna have a face an embodiment.

26:17

Yeah I think his voice can carry the role.

26:19

That's interesting.

26:21

He does have a very, intimidating persona, I think.

26:26

Yeah. And I like that very powerful. but I don't even know if I like the the character, to be honest.

26:32

It's it seems so far fetched it is to shoehorn that to make it fit

26:37

well inside the MCU is to have this, you know, creature

26:41

that's human shaped, but the size of, like, our son or whatever.

26:45

Yeah, right. We have that in the Eternals.

26:47

They brought in, bomb terribly.

26:49

It was all it did. Yeah. And I think the bad guys. Terrible.

26:52

Of course. Yeah, but it's one of those things where he's such an important villain.

26:55

It's like you have to have him. Especially if you're gonna bring in the Fantastic Four.

26:59

Yeah, I like them to change. So, like.

27:02

So I like the original Iron Man. How Iron Man was a very underplayed character in the comics and stuff.

27:08

And then they kind of rewrote his character to what they thought would be best on screen. Right?

27:12

And I mean, with small changes, he wasn't too far off from the original.

27:15

but then that was just a home run.

27:18

And they took that concept and kind of kept rolling with it,

27:22

with everything else we saw. And that's how they built the MCU.

27:24

And now I think they're kind of losing direction a little bit.

27:27

Struggle. Yeah. Because they they are going deeper into the comics.

27:31

They are going to some more outlandish characters. Yeah.

27:34

And they are, not so much worried about being grounded as possible.

27:38

Yeah. I will say the key aspect with, Galactus

27:42

is that he's the omnipresent, threat coming.

27:45

Yeah. And so him not even being on screen much is fine.

27:49

Yeah. Because you have Silver Surfer warning you he's going to be there. Yeah.

27:52

And several surfers, we already have that cast and stuff like that.

27:54

But that's the thing is, hey, guess what?

27:57

There's a big bad guy coming. Yeah. And then you see, just a little like him talking to Silver Surfer or whatever.

28:02

And that's the whole point. Yeah. You'd see, I don't remember name it, but Thor's girlfriend

28:06

watching scans and a planet, they were watching monitor,

28:09

and he just completely disappears or something. She's super dead, by the way, over the phone.

28:13

Yeah. Love and thunder. I know you know, I live in Thunder fan.

28:16

but, yeah, actually, I think Love and Thunder was better than, the new blasphemous.

28:21

I think it was better because Rock. Yeah. Oh, no, it's that's slapstick humor.

28:25

That should only be in Guardians is slathered all over sword.

28:30

Yeah. Fan I don't know, I think I think that's insane.

28:33

Okay, so now we're talking about Thor. let's get into the Thor news of the week.

28:37

so there was a recently an interview with, Chris Hemsworth

28:40

where he was reflecting on his role in Thor Love and Thunder

28:44

and expressed some desire to redeem the character in another film.

28:48

Did you not like his character in Thor Love and Thunder?

28:50

Now, here's the thing is, I did like him in love, in Thor Love and Thunder.

28:54

But the problem was, is I felt like I kept having to defend him to my friends,

28:58

including you, to a degree, to a good, but I don't.

29:01

I don't know if that was Chris Hemsworth's fault.

29:04

Actually, he takes the blame. Yeah, I don't know why.

29:06

I don't think he's to blame for this, he says, because, well, it's the writing.

29:10

Let me say it. Well, let me explain. Taika Waititi said I wanted him to have more ability to adlib and improv.

29:15

Oh, okay. And so Chris Hemsworth took that

29:18

and he's like, well, let me go and have fun with this. And I love the phrase he says.

29:21

He says, I became a parody of myself.

29:24

so he he already knew that he was being a little silly from Ragnarok

29:27

and that's he. That was a good vibe for most people.

29:30

not for you. Especially if it's a if it's a break off where he, you know, like he gained a bunch of weight

29:36

and he was just drinking beer and playing video games. That could be a time where he's silly.

29:40

But then he gets back to that noble, godlike character that he redeemed himself

29:43

to be at the end of the first movie. It took so much build, that building of his character to get him to be

29:48

this honorable, you know, worthy of being a god of his planet.

29:51

So he saying he became like the sillier version of the silly version already.

29:55

And that's where he lost the thread. And so he's hoping to have another standalone movie.

29:59

He's what he's saying no, for sure. To redeem himself.

30:01

The schedule's pretty tight, though. Do you think we're going to get one before Secret Wars? Yeah.

30:05

I mean, I think if it I think they should if they have the actor himself

30:09

so dedicated to making it a hit.

30:11

You know, that's a great point, John, because it's I mean Robert Downey Jr dedicated to Iron Man.

30:15

But he's tired, you know, like Chris Hemsworth

30:17

kind of done with Captain America. If you're going to have somebody who's

30:20

still able and happy to do it, then my God, let's do it.

30:24

Yeah, I think that's a great idea.

30:26

I really think that a good another movie, the beta Ray Bill,

30:31

one of the favorite side characters of the Thor comic books, is is a wise move.

30:36

And there's something about Thor now where he's being his father figure,

30:40

and in the comic books, where he's always trying to make sure he's worthy of his dad's acclaim and

30:44

and the title, I think there's a lot there's God from Ezra or Ezra.

30:49

Asgard has in common with the everyday man, everyday person.

30:52

He's always trying to, like, live up to expectations of a life that they were promised as a kid, or

30:56

they're trying to make sure that they're being a good dad when they're also like

31:00

and still not fully grown themselves. Yeah, there's a lot that people can identify with. Thor. Yeah.

31:04

It's, and I really liked the first one for sure.

31:08

the second one was where it started to get a little too silly for me.

31:11

And there's a time and place and room for that in the movie.

31:13

You just. You can't make you can't rebrand him

31:15

to be all this kind of college humor or whatever you.

31:19

Yeah, bro humor. And if they wanted to kind of dial it back and try to get back

31:23

to how he was in the first movie with just a little humor, that's great.

31:26

Yeah, I think that'd be fantastic. And and that humor, I think is very fitting in Guardians of the Galaxy.

31:31

And so when he crosses over with them, that's a good place to put it too.

31:34

But when he's off on his own, it's more about honor

31:37

and nobility and is, you know, aspiring to be a god.

31:41

I tell you what this mean, Thomas. Talk about this.

31:43

Like, if I ever need to be hiked up, I need coffee in the morning, but I don't have a coffee on hand.

31:47

I watch the audience reactions for endgame.

31:50

Yeah, that's when, you know, when you're. When Captain America is picking a meal in the air

31:53

for the first time, or the Avengers assemble everybody.

31:56

Like, that's such high fuel. Yeah. Or when it's such a good moment when we first see

32:01

the two other Spider-Man in the Spider-Man no way.

32:04

Oh, yeah. That's such good high, though, for me.

32:06

Yeah, but you know what? What gets me like in the I'm in my tearing up book was when in endgame

32:11

or in Infinity War when Arthur, who's been through the hell and back.

32:15

He's chunky and a Fortnite player.

32:17

Yeah, he goes back in time and he sees his mom, and his mom says,

32:22

oh, you're not my Thor. Oh, I know how to describe that scene.

32:26

Yeah, it's such a beautiful scene. Well acted.

32:29

And for everybody who says like, oh, the MCU has lost its way, the MCU is not good anymore.

32:33

It's still has heart. It's still you have gotten spoiled by such good content.

32:37

And that's part of it too, is we set our expectations higher

32:41

every time we think they're going to beat what they did last time and say, hey, they're just, you know, writers and,

32:46

you know, producers doing the same thing they did yesterday.

32:48

And it can't not always be better than your expectations.

32:51

And sometimes it's not for you. Like, yeah, we were just talking to somebody today who's a big fan of Ant-Man.

32:56

And you know, I'm not a big fan of Ant-Man, but I understand it's also like a dad's movie.

33:01

Yeah, like it's about being a dad and stuff like that, and like, oh, I get it.

33:03

You know, it's all dad jokes or whatever. Yeah, it's not for me.

33:06

But I can still appreciate that it's for somebody. And when you're watching your favorite TV show,

33:09

not every episode is the one that you would, you know, invite your friends over to see.

33:13

That's true. Some of them are just fillers that have to progress the story or develop

33:16

a character a little more to get it ready for that, you know, jaw dropping episode.

33:20

So yeah, there's going to be some movies in between that are less, you

33:24

know, exciting. Not everything can be like geek freaks, where every single episode is perfect.

33:27

Exactly. Oh my God.

33:30

Editor Frank right now is very listening to this right now.

33:32

Just like. Yeah, freaking right. Yeah, yeah.

33:34

If you don't believe that, you guys got to get on the Patreon for our special episodes.

33:38

Yeah, that's got a real special future episode coming out.

33:40

It's also live from Rachel Cordova. All right, so since today is May 4th, Star Wars Day

33:44

and Red's convention, it's all about Star Wars. Here, let's talk a little bit of Star Wars new news.

33:50

we have heard that the skeleton crew

33:53

is going to be coming out in, December or around Christmas.

33:58

Yeah. this year on Disney Plus. Have you?

34:00

What do you know about that? And what do you think? So the general idea, it's kind of like that Star Trek prodigy.

34:05

Yeah, it's what it sounds like. It's going to be a group of kids that kind of, you know, for whatever

34:10

reason, end up on their own in space, on their own, on their own ship.

34:13

And then poor Jude Law is carrying them around like so many of these kids.

34:16

Yeah. This is one of the things we've talked about before with Marvel.

34:19

It's not made for me, you know. You know, think so?

34:21

I don't I mean, you know, I think it's I think it's going to be for the kids,

34:26

the next generation of Star Trek, Star Wars fans who just because it's,

34:30

group of kids you think it'll be primarily geared towards?

34:34

I think so I think that's the idea is that you're going to have it

34:37

to where it'll be like, kid drama.

34:40

So I think Jude Law is going to be very much the Zordon of the Power Rangers.

34:44

Yeah. Okay. I can't see that.

34:46

I was thinking like, well, heroes was like, you know, save the cheerleader.

34:49

That was high school. But we watched that back when we were, you know, teens and early 20s also.

34:53

She was the cheerleader. She was the high school student.

34:55

Everybody else just jobs to politicians and stuff.

34:58

Yeah. yeah, I hope it's good it being a live

35:02

action series based on Star Wars.

35:05

I think there's a lot of potential for that, you know? Yes.

35:08

To be successful. I like the idea of showing

35:12

what it's like to be a kid, to be coming of age in the Star Wars universe.

35:16

Yeah, I will be watching this. Of course they've got me.

35:18

But, I know that I'm just I'm going to give it some grace

35:21

because I know I'm not the right audience for it. I'm so glad this is right. Audience for that one. Yeah.

35:25

I haven't watched much of the animated Star Wars shows like Clone Wars and stuff

35:28

like that, and it's a little harder for me to to engage.

35:31

I think nowadays with just two animated shows, I don't know.

35:33

I mean, I love avatar and there's plenty of other animated shows I watch.

35:37

but I'm thinking this being live action might be a little bit more easier

35:40

for me to, to, fall for it, to like it and engage with it.

35:45

That's a that's a good point, because

35:47

because with all the animated stuff you have with all, like Ahsoka,

35:50

with Mandalorian, you're only benefiting yourself

35:52

if you watched the plethora of content out there.

35:55

Yeah, something like this. That's a fresh start.

35:57

I mean, that's just it's going to be more welcoming for the lesser, not the lesser,

36:01

more mainstream fans. Yeah, okay.

36:03

And I like Star Wars, but I'm also a big Star Trek fan.

36:07

And so I think I might like the explorer side of this.

36:11

Yeah. It's kids, you know, dealing with social dynamics and stuff

36:13

for being kids, but also lost in space exploring like that might be fun.

36:17

So in other news, we did hear an update.

36:20

Wes Ball sharing his vision of Legend of Zelda The Movie.

36:25

He's, Yeah. Do you think it's going to be a live action movie?

36:28

But it's going to be that what this, hybrid mix

36:31

of live action with minimal, animation and CGI and CGI?

36:35

Yeah. And motion capture. So, yeah.

36:38

So I'm wondering what that's going to look like.

36:41

And I, I think would look good to try to do because I do I like a little bit of both.

36:45

when you can do it, I don't want a full, completely CGI movie.

36:50

You know, I agree, avoidable. but I really like how a Detective Pikachu is done.

36:54

Or even like the song that surprises didn't. Yeah, yeah.

36:57

Or this or Sonic is very similar to. They did a good job of mixing. Mixing?

37:00

does it sound like that's what they're going for with this? Well what's interesting let's ball right now.

37:05

The reason we're hearing about this is because you're being interviewed for planet of the apes.

37:09

He's making those, which is, undoubtedly the best motion capture.

37:14

True. Yeah. Have you kept up on those movies? They just keep getting better. I haven't seen the new one.

37:17

There's one. I think it's this one coming out this weekend. I got to watch the one before this one, actually, too.

37:21

Yeah, but I'm gonna probably do that tomorrow night.

37:23

Maybe. We'll see. But yeah, it's so cool the motion capture in these movies.

37:27

So surprised that he's not going to do for this in any way.

37:30

So then I'm like, okay, are you going to go with like, hyperrealism?

37:33

Are we going to get a Lord of the rings? Yeah. Oh man, I wouldn't hate that.

37:36

Would be pretty cool to because link is a big enough character in untapped lore.

37:41

Yeah, it'll get tickets, a franchise. Yeah,

37:44

that's true because you have to worry if you're going to go

37:46

with the hyperrealism Lord of the rings style, it's going to be super expensive. Yes.

37:50

You can't imagine you can't do that on a light budget.

37:52

But then they have to be confident they're going to get the theaters sales,

37:56

you know, ticket sales there to support that.

37:58

Yeah. But I think that I think it's kind of a no brainer that they would.

38:02

I tell you what, you show off that Master Sword once in the trailer are going to fill every seat you got.

38:06

Yeah, I have no doubt and do a lot of fan engagement stuff, promote it

38:09

a lot, do events at the theaters, sell a special popcorn bucket?

38:12

For sure. I mean, there's a lot they can do to get people in theaters to see it.

38:16

It's a whole generation that love that game.

38:18

And then the lore. And there was some hesitation over the Mario movie.

38:22

Yeah, but we saw the quality, the time he's put into that Mario movie.

38:26

I think we're a little bit more trusting of Nintendo in the movie world now.

38:28

Yeah, because before that there was the old Mario movie.

38:31

Yeah, it was terrible. Of course, from 90. Terrible but great.

38:34

I love that movie. I mean, yeah, it's a bad year.

38:37

If you guys are on our Patreon, check out this loop

38:39

I covered it, I had only my requirement was only say good things about it.

38:42

That was hard to do. but I did.

38:45

but yeah. So

38:47

going into Nintendo, making more movies, I trust them a little bit more.

38:50

Now I realize now I think it's best to see that as a Mario parody movie.

38:54

And then it's hilarious. Yeah, it's great to thinking of it that we had we had a kid

38:58

come up, we're talking about Spaceballs or we're talking about sci fi movies.

39:00

It's like I just watch baseball. And he's like, have you guys ever seen that?

39:03

It's like, how have you seen that? How like you watch the Mel Brooks movie from the 80s,

39:09

maybe early 90s, but yeah, that's right.

39:11

And he's like quoting Spaceballs. Like, yeah, we know Spaceballs kid. Yeah.

39:15

We like his parents. Really? Yeah.

39:18

I agree 100% 100%, man.

39:21

All right, one more thing I want to talk about. I love this franchise.

39:24

I'm excited to hear it's continuing. Is Tron. They're going to make a third Tron movie.

39:29

what do you what do you think about that? It's called Tron. Aries.

39:32

So, you know, like a lot of you guys, I'm like, Jared Leto is involved with this.

39:35

I'm a little worried about Jared Leto. Yeah, scary.

39:38

But they brought back a pretty good actor that I love from the last Tron one.

39:42

that's Jeff Bridges. Oh, yeah. He's.

39:45

Everything he's in is amazing. I love Jeff Bridges. So he just got. He just got, bro.

39:49

He just got tapped to be coming back. Yeah.

39:51

he's from the original movies. From the remake.

39:54

That was a few years ago, 20 a few years ago, 2010.

39:56

Jesus is when he came out 14 years ago. I remember these dates.

40:00

But yeah, from 2010, you do your homework too.

40:02

I'm sure I did. I wrote the article you read here. Now.

40:06

Yeah. yeah. So it's it's outstanding to have him back and kind of gives some more,

40:11

I would say credit or no. What would that be? The word legitimacy. Yeah for sure.

40:16

It's not just, you know, Jared Leto making a Tron movie. No.

40:19

This is the next Tron. I love the first two of these, the reboot movies so much.

40:24

I wish that this was more like Fast and Furious,

40:26

where they just made a new one every two years. Yeah, I would continue to watch the neutrons.

40:30

Eventually they would get bad, I'm sure, but they're doing a Tron ride.

40:33

Yeah, Disneyland. They just made it at Disney World Anti-Doping at Disneyland as well.

40:36

Oh, cool. So that tells you right there they're like, okay,

40:39

this is investing and putting their weight into it. Yeah.

40:41

And they called out avatar. the blue people avatar.

40:45

Yeah. That that's one of their new tentpole ones. So think of like Star Wars that kind of thing.

40:49

It's going to get old and with the neutron. Right.

40:51

I think it's getting close to that. So we might get more

40:53

because think of how easy and how great it would be to have Tron anime.

40:57

Yeah, it just seems like a such a good anime thing.

40:59

You could do that movie edition to the park to have a Tron like area

41:03

in the park that has all this, like you're inside the internet world?

41:07

Yeah. Heck yeah. What about a Tron nightclub in Disneyland?

41:10

Oh heck yeah. I mean, are you crazy?

41:12

Yeah. Is paying for it then?

41:15

So I think that's a good movie. Yeah, kind of a ready player one. Feel a little, you know, ready Player one.

41:18

I had to make two and Ready Player one and job once in a while.

41:20

Yeah, I think there's one who's me and squeaks what I remember like.

41:23

All right. Ready player one yeah. Or gargoyles.

41:26

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I haven't, I haven't heard any updates lately,

41:30

but we do know that they were working on Ready Player two.

41:33

I still that's still in the works out.

41:35

If you guys want to check it out, I read it. I will read that book, I promise.

41:38

Yeah, I got to get to, but yeah, I think I'm excited for Tron.

41:41

I think it's, untapped market. We also have a reboot for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, so.

41:46

Oh, that's true. I think they're bringing back a lot of these franchises that deserve

41:50

being brought back. And I think that's it's what Bob Iger what he took what he took back the reins

41:55

that Disney. Yeah. He said like we're done trying things.

41:59

We're going to go back to what works and just make new ones.

42:01

Why not. Yeah. And I get that's good and bad right.

42:04

I get that it's nice to push, but sometimes you just want another Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

42:09

Yeah. And especially if you don't completely retool it.

42:13

But you know, you do what you know was good and continue

42:15

with a different story or, you know, continue the story.

42:19

but like if you're like, oh, yeah, everybody likes pirates, let's make one.

42:21

That's all. Yeah. Or an anime of pirates or something.

42:25

That's all CGI instead or something

42:27

like, well, no, you're changing like the core components of it.

42:30

Let's, you know, maybe change the actor if if Johnny Depp does

42:33

want to do it anymore, but continue at the same world that you built, that's the thing that

42:36

that you want to maintain. I think as well. There's there there it's in the same world.

42:41

So we're going to have to go and stuff like that.

42:43

Yeah, a whole new cast. Yeah. Yeah. And that's I think that's, that's where to go.

42:45

Yeah. You're not changing the style of it.

42:48

The, the music should be almost the same in the background.

42:51

That's a big the parts, the music.

42:53

So good man. Yeah. Yeah.

42:56

So I'm looking forward to that. I think that'll be good. Yeah.

42:58

I think that's all we got for the news. Yeah, it's been a pretty good active month.

43:02

I'm excited. First active week, next week on a recording back.

43:05

And, you know, our studios and stuff like that. We'll get more stories out and all that.

43:09

But for now, all we're doing is live. Yeah. So we're looking at.

43:11

Yeah. man, this event's been a lot of fun.

43:13

It's been we're finally starting to slow down a little bit.

43:16

We could actually get some food in. Yeah, but it has been a blast. And, Yeah, there's been good stuff.

43:26

All right, gentlemen, we have been here in Rancho Cordova at the esports event. Yes.

43:30

Celebrating Star Wars, celebrating e-sports.

43:32

Really celebrating the community.

43:34

what do you think of today's event? I think it's been great. We had really good turnout.

43:37

I was surprised with the rain, how much people came out for this event.

43:40

Yeah, obviously, you know, e-sports is pretty, pretty well

43:44

accepted in Rancho Cordova. So what?

43:46

I love to see that, especially for the rain. I mean, I can't explain how much it was pouring, stream.

43:53

Now, now the rain's stopped and it's starting to clear up a little bit,

43:56

but this morning, it was coming down so hard, you

43:59

you probably wouldn't want to drive if you weren't already here.

44:02

Yeah. So that is pretty great.

44:05

Oh, we got announcements. All right, we're back.

44:08

We were, distracted for a second because we just won best booth

44:12

at this convention. Whoop, whoop. That's awesome. That was pretty awesome.

44:14

thank you so much, everybody who voted. We appreciate it.

44:17

got ourselves a visa. Visa gift card. It will go to good use.

44:21

but yeah that is that is awesome. Yeah.

44:23

That's a lot of excitement.

44:25

Yeah. It threw me off a little bit.

44:28

We're focusing again. Yes. And back to where we were.

44:30

What were we talking more. yeah. Some of the cool things that we we met here.

44:32

We got to talk to some amazing people. just so many different walks of life.

44:37

We were just talking to ash about gonna be on the podcast later on

44:40

about the effort to do the cosplay and stuff like that.

44:43

Yeah, yeah. And he was always one of the highlights of any convention you go to is

44:47

when you get to see the cosplayers, we saw the people here who made their own costume.

44:52

And then kind of late in the show, we saw, the Five-O first arrived in there.

44:56

they're, I mean, very career professional, cosplay,

45:01

you know, outfits or costumes. Yes.

45:03

Hey. Yeah. I don't even know the word at that level. It's not even like our costumes anymore.

45:07

It's a uniform. Yeah, it's probably Darth Vader suit, actually.

45:12

Sometimes better than the stage props.

45:14

I've heard that cosplayers do better than sometimes.

45:16

but on stage props. It was immaculate.

45:19

It when he walked into the room, when Darth Vader walked into the room.

45:22

Yeah. Everybody was like, he really. He he took all the attention. Yeah.

45:25

And it just like, wow, that's Darth Vader. It's good.

45:28

Yeah, that was really cool. So that was pretty neat to see that the effort that that goes into it.

45:31

And just of course the attention that that brings to the community and stuff like that, it was really neat.

45:36

So that was awesome. we've been having some smash tournaments going on.

45:39

I've seen a bunch of we've had multiple winners,

45:42

one winners came up, was like, hey, I already won. I think you guys want this one. So it has dispenser.

45:46

Yeah, we appreciate it. but it's been cool to see everybody so active over there.

45:50

Yeah. They were also doing, the the Pod racer game from episode one.

45:54

Yeah. Oh, that's such a cool. That old arcade game.

45:56

Yeah, I still play it when I go to an arcade that has it.

45:59

They have it still some of them. Oh, yeah. That's fun.

46:02

That's a classic. but yeah, one of the great booths we saw here, I mean, it's straight across

46:06

here is the one that has all the that 3D printed and traditional cosplay, technique made.

46:11

Oh, makeups. Yeah. Do you guys want to go up on YouTube?

46:13

Odin makes all kinds of different props and costumes and, cosplay stuff.

46:19

Yeah, they have a helmet from. They have multiple helmets. Iron man, Thor, whatnot.

46:23

But of course, I'm seeing Arthas the Lich King, and that's

46:25

I went over and talked about, like your helmets been calling me all day.

46:28

I want to talk to them. Two new owners. I'm not sure how that happened, but yeah,

46:33

they do a lot of really good work from different, different, universes.

46:37

Yeah. That's that's. Yeah, exactly. Infinity War has shown us the way. Yeah.

46:41

we'll see. Really cool. Booth down the way. We talked to the guy for a little bit, where he teaches, a CAD program.

46:47

Yeah, 3D modeling and stuff like vital.

46:50

Yeah. He's like, I gotta get his information because I'm.

46:53

I'm learning that myself right now with, Tinkercad and SolidWorks

46:56

and, it's cool to see what kind of program he's doing.

46:59

Yeah. And I want to make sure to give a big shout out to Rancho Cordova themselves.

47:02

Redondo Cordova, Chamber of Commerce is our neighbor today.

47:05

But, I mean.

47:08

But honestly, we've been seeing so many people from, from,

47:12

you know, their, their community, from their work here in this building.

47:15

Exactly. And it just like the way they've been so supportive of this event and of Donna,

47:20

who put this event on a lot of work, this event, it's just it's mind blowing.

47:25

Really? Yeah. Yeah, it's it's so exciting to see the community engage

47:28

in something like this so much that, you know, obviously it's the city helping

47:32

pour into the community. Yeah. And the community showing their appreciation for sure.

47:36

We're going to be sharing a lot of pictures from this event, and you guys can check out all that on our social media.

47:40

We're going to be also linking off to everybody. So make sure you guys check it out.

47:43

Thanks for hanging out this week and I will see you next week.

47:46

Bye bye. Thanks. How's everybody editing Frank here.

47:51

Just to let you know, there is more of us talking at Rancho Cordova e-sports event.

47:55

We're going to put it up on our Patreon. It'll be a sidequest episode.

47:58

We're going to make it completely free for everybody. So you can go ahead and check it out.

48:01

We're going to be talking about Star Wars movies.

48:03

We're going to be listening to hearing a quiz that we did for Pokemon.

48:07

Oh, we had a kid come up that was like just a Pokemon genius.

48:10

It was fun to talk to him. but yeah, we're going to talk more over there.

48:13

I was going to be talking about what it's like to podcast

48:15

at conventions and the benefits and stuff like that of podcasting

48:18

at conventions, because we know some of our fellow

48:20

podcasters have not really considered that idea.

48:23

And it's it is really, a fun way to meet the community that you're part of anyway.

48:27

So yeah, that'll be over on our Patreon again, completely free of you.

48:31

Check it out. And thank you very much for having us at these conventions.

48:35

next week we're recording back in studio after,

48:38

we all take long naps, get these things, wear us out.

48:42

But it is a blast.
