I am alive today because I learned the art of 'Arriving Simply' in my life.

I was 39 years old when I received the diagnosis of an auto-immune disease known as Dermatomyositis and Lupus. I was a single mom, working full time (plus on-call for after hours), and in my spare time, I was training for marathons.

On the outside, people might look at me and see a woman taking responsibility for her life when the truth was I felt utterly powerless. I was a single mom, terrified of screwing my kid up, and not being able to provide for him.

I was also heartbroken from a friends suicide, lonely, grieving, and I didn't want to acknowledge that or let anyone else know about it either.

At the time, I wasn't aware of my feelings and fears. I was just aware that I was struggling, and I told myself that I had no choice but to be busy, because if I didn't take care of things then who the heck would? For me, it was easier to be addicted to the drama of being busy than to sit with the loneliness and fear of being a single mom. And it caught up with me.

In this inaugural episode of the 'Arrive Simply' podcast, I discuss the vital factors I applied to simplify my life and put my disease in remission.
