Respected Indian industrialist Ratan Tata has sparked off a debate saying that the sacking of many workers during the COVID pandemic situation in India showed a lack of empathy among the top leadership of the corporates and companies in the country. "It is impossible to survive as a company if one is not sensitive to its people. Covid-19 hits you wherever you are. Whatever your reasons may be, you have to change in terms of what you consider fair or good or necessary in order to survive….These are the people that have worked for you. These are the people who have served you all their careers. You send them out to live in the rain. Is that your definition of ethics when you treat your labor force that way?" said Ratan Tata in an interview with news website YourStory early this week. Many companies - big and small including startups - have been forced to lay off employees due to the lockdowns and their negative impact on their businesses. This episode of the podcast is looking at this issue from both sides of the fence but even I believe that the most necessary ingredient of good leadership is empathy. Empathy is what will set the good leaders apart from the rest. Thank you for subscribing. Share this episode.
