1:58
I want to talk about. what happened
2:01
Friday morning to Scott
2:03
Scheffler, the number
2:05
one ranked player in the world. Scott
2:08
got detained, arrested by police,
2:11
because he didn't comply with the police.
2:13
In my view, let's
2:15
listen to Jeff Darlington of
2:17
ESPN, explain what happened with
2:20
Scott Scheffler. Entering
2:22
Baja Adult Club this morning,
2:25
we witnessed a car pull around
2:27
us that was, Scott Scheffler was in the car,
2:29
to be very clear about the details here. Scott
2:32
Scheffler has been detained by police
2:34
officers placed in the back of
2:37
a police vehicle in handcuffs after
2:39
he tried to pull around what
2:42
he believed to be security, ended
2:45
up being police officers. They told him to
2:47
stop. When he
2:49
didn't stop, the police officer attached
2:51
himself to the vehicle. Scheffler then
2:53
traveled another 10 yards
2:56
before stopping the car. The
2:58
police officer then grabbed at his arm,
3:00
attempting to pull him out of the
3:02
car before Scheffler eventually opened the door,
3:05
at which point the police officer pulled
3:07
Scheffler out of the car, pushed him
3:09
up against the car and immediately placed
3:12
him in handcuffs. Scheffler
3:14
was then walked over to the police
3:17
car, placed in the back in handcuffs,
3:20
very stunned about what was happening, looked
3:23
toward me as he
3:26
was in those handcuffs, and said, please
3:28
help me. He very clearly
3:32
did not know what was happening in
3:34
this situation. It moved very quickly, very
3:37
rapidly, very aggressively. He
3:40
was detained in that police
3:43
vehicle for approximately 20 minutes. The
3:45
police officers at that point did
3:48
not understand that Scott Scheffler was
3:50
a golfer in the tournament, nor
3:52
of course, that he is the number
3:54
one player in the world. Yeah,
3:59
so... Let's be clear here. I don't
4:02
think this would have happened to Tiger Woods because
4:04
I think the police officer would have said, oh,
4:06
that's Tiger Woods. You
4:08
know, Tiger cut it out and
4:10
I just don't think it would have escalated to
4:12
that. But I do
4:15
know I have a consistent philosophy as
4:17
it relates to law enforcement or whatever.
4:19
It's just killing with kindness, killing
4:22
with compliance. You comply,
4:24
you virtually eliminate
4:26
any chance of having a
4:28
problem with police. Scotty
4:30
Sheffler seemed to not comply.
4:33
He's the number one player in the
4:35
world. He's the biggest story in golf.
4:37
He's in a car that identifies himself
4:39
as a golfer. So he made some
4:41
bad assumptions here that the police would
4:43
understand or whoever the security was would
4:45
understand. And he didn't have to comply
4:47
and the police would stop. He
4:50
thinks, again, Scotty Sheffler put out
4:52
a statement, you
4:54
know, putting out his side of the story. I
4:57
want to read that into the record.
4:59
This morning I was proceeding as directed
5:01
by police officers. It was a very
5:03
chaotic situation. Understand we so, considering the
5:05
tragic accident that had occurred earlier. And
5:07
there was a big misunderstanding of what
5:09
I thought I was being asked to
5:11
do. I never intended to disregard any
5:14
of the instructions. I'm hopeful to put
5:16
this aside and focus on golf today.
5:18
Of course, all of us involved in
5:20
the tournament express our
5:22
deepest sympathies to the family of
5:24
the man who passed away in
5:26
the earlier accident this morning. It
5:29
truly puts everything in perspective. So
5:31
I like his reaction here. He's
5:33
he's he's been
5:36
humbled and he's expressing a bit
5:38
of humility. I'm sure he's really,
5:41
really frustrated and probably
5:43
would like to say a
5:45
few other things. But
5:49
he didn't. He composed himself and
5:52
and and said the right
5:54
things. If
5:56
He complied, though, there would be no problems.
5:58
He did go on. Ah
6:00
to play. Ah shortly after
6:03
his arrest and he played really
6:05
well. Ah M is in contents
6:07
and he's the number one goal
6:10
from the world's for a reason.
6:12
He. Wakes up this Saturday yard not
6:15
in in consensus to be the
6:17
leader of the Pg A tour.
6:19
so are the Pt A championship
6:21
so he did not affect his
6:23
play. Maybe be been motivated and
6:25
focus is place. Hats off to
6:27
Scotty Selfless but my take on
6:30
all of his. To
6:32
comply bro. And. And those of
6:34
you the think like all the police when
6:36
I see a white man made as bend
6:38
over backwards and a roll out the red
6:41
carpet mob I don't please get frustrated out
6:43
a frustrating job. You're on the scene of
6:45
a traffic accidents where someone dies as poppy
6:47
police officers there that born expecting to be
6:49
there do any type of gases thirties and
6:52
that's where the misunderstand me took place. Will
6:55

7:00

7:06
going on. Or would send
7:08
Sharp and the community or black
7:11
people who tried to cancel send
7:13
Sharps. I think he's having too
7:15
much success. Or. And then also
7:17
as Steve about the Nfl accelerator
7:19
program. This program may have to
7:21

7:23

And then I'm back to feed you. That's what
12:35
we think you are able to love. Alright
12:40
Steve, I've set
12:42
this whole thing up, explained everything
12:44
about what went on with Scotty
12:47
Sheffler, Korean
12:49
Co-Sale. My
12:51
position is, if Scotty Sheffler
12:53
had just complied, he
12:55
would be a free man this morning. Well, he is a free
12:57
man. He's on a golf course. But I'm
13:00
pretty consistent here. Just do what the cops say
13:02
and you've got no problems. If
13:05
you just comply, you can
13:07
keep on driving. If you can
13:10
comply, you can fly. I mean, I
13:12
don't know what to really say. I think it's really interesting
13:14
though. On Twitter,
13:16
the usual suspects are
13:18
now kind of mocking the, well,
13:20
you should have just complied. Well, yeah,
13:22
you're right. So here's the difference between
13:24
us and them. We're consistent with
13:27
that. I think Scotty Sheffler should have
13:29
shown more patience and he had a real sense
13:31
of entitlement. All he
13:33
had to do was wait. Everything would have been fine. But
13:35
a lot of these celebrities and athletes believe as though
13:38
that they are above the law and that they have a
13:40
special treatment. Now,
13:43
maybe they do, but they
13:45
oftentimes don't have a respect for the
13:47
regular working stiff. That is the
13:49
truth. And he blew
13:51
this thing way out of proportion. It's really unfortunate
13:54
it went this way. But
13:56
I do have a question now for those people who
13:59
are on the... This it ended a spot from
14:01
as us. Will. You now hold
14:03
that same standard. To. When
14:05
someone else has a situation people would
14:08
actually long link. Criminal
14:10
rap sheets were committing crimes in
14:12
the process. Seek a we have
14:14
a little bit of Bob New
14:16
wants to discuss. Schaeffler deserves everything
14:18
he got. He. Basically.
14:21
Acted out of pocket. He was
14:23
irrational, impatient, and was not responsible.
14:26
Months. At the same time? Oh,
14:29
He's. Not a criminal, his artwork criminal. I
14:31
look at it wraps lot of think as
14:33
much going on outside of this morning so
14:35
that. Same. Standard. Same.
14:38
Standard. I'm ruined my pillow. Was.
14:40
Playing for some sexual assault.
14:42
The. nearly land of landed him in the because
14:45
of this was for the white house and it
14:47
became a big stories to about his lady was.
14:50
And I remember michael her when
14:52
he saw the media. After he
14:54
was cleared he bought the same
14:56
intensity. Same. Intensity. So
14:58
again when I am saying to
15:00
these people who. In
15:03
my favorite is actually trying to compare this
15:06
to Regatta Taylor. And nothing
15:08
myself. okay you wanna talk about
15:10
in out of pocket? Ah, complete
15:12
misrepresentation of making a comparison. All
15:14
I could say that these individuals
15:16
as. Same. Intensity. Whole.
15:20
For a second. This
15:22
got sessler girls and compared with out
15:24
of there he actually said still didn't
15:26
get through It's also a tweet I'll
15:29
bring it over to be we should
15:31
put it up but he actually tried
15:33
that us involved Riyadh a tail another
15:36
my that there were guns pointed ah
15:38
at the cops at that point of
15:40
you want to talk about up that
15:43
see a top job Sampson I'm like
15:45
a boyfriend fire person had a job
15:47
Go has a user see the replies
15:49
are quite interesting. ah answer even compare.
15:52
those two shows you the level
15:54
of intelligence or dishonesty and are
15:56
both have some of these people
15:59
but again That is our standard,
16:01
Jason. See, we are honorable people. We're serious.
16:03
We have the same standard. Just
16:06
comply. You're right, no matter who you
16:08
are, whether you're a PGA golfer, number
16:10
one in the world, or
16:12
someone committing a crime or as a career
16:15
criminal. Yes. Just comply, please.
16:17
Well, the argument works
16:19
both ways for me in
16:22
terms of just comply. But
16:26
also, this is an example
16:28
of that the police
16:31
don't really care. Black,
16:33
white, whatever. If
16:35
you give them any static or
16:37
any excuse, they will escalate things.
16:40
And so there's this myth that
16:43
the police, oh my God,
16:45
when they see a white person, they just
16:47
roll out the red carpet and they forget
16:49
that they're police and white people can do
16:52
whatever. And this is the number one golfer
16:54
in the world. Super
16:56
wealthy. He's in a car that
16:59
should identify him as a golfer and,
17:01
you know, has a right to do
17:03
there. But he gave the police some
17:05
static and he
17:07
got inconvenienced incredibly. And
17:10
so cops, I like them.
17:12
I respect them. I understand how difficult
17:15
and their jobs are. And
17:17
so I try not to give them
17:19
any static because I know they're frustrated.
17:22
They're confused because I think what really
17:24
happened here, Steven, and I mentioned this
17:26
briefly, but what
17:28
really happened here is because
17:30
of the traffic accident that
17:33
created a fatality, the
17:36
police or more police
17:38
officers who were probably not scheduled
17:40
to be in that area were
17:42
brought into that area by the
17:44
golf course. And so they
17:47
don't know what the protocol is
17:49
for the golfers. They're there because
17:51
there was a traffic fatality, pretends
17:53
a crime on the scene. And
17:55
so they're a bit confused. And
17:58
so Scotty Shephard's thinking. I'm gonna get treated just
18:01
like I always do at a
18:03
golf course if there's some kind of traffic
18:05
jam They're gonna I'm a golfer. I'm Scotty
18:07
Shephard. They're gonna let me through but you
18:09
got some cop perhaps Who wasn't
18:11
scheduled to be there and all he knows he's
18:13
asking a guy hey stop And if
18:16
he stops for 10 seconds offers
18:18
this guy an explanation they
18:20
let him roll through like all the other
18:22
golfers and Trust me all
18:25
the other golfers weren't Tiger Woods and
18:27
Tony fee now It was a bunch
18:29
of white golfers that got
18:31
through this whole process without any
18:33
problems Scotty Shephard
18:35
didn't Scotty Shephard's on my
18:37
team on Virgil's team. He's
18:39
a Christian. He's a believer
18:42
Loved him after he won the
18:44
Masters and celebrated God, but on
18:46
this instant. I gotta say Scotty
18:48
just Inconvenience yourself for
18:50
10 15 seconds. There's no issue
18:52
here, bro. His white privilege card didn't work this
18:55
time Go
18:59
ahead Steve Well, I think Scott Shepler so used
19:01
to playing through that he just thought he could
19:03
just you know Keep it going off the golf
19:05
course But I first of all, I
19:08
have a hard time believing there's not a phone number He could
19:10
call in situations like this where somebody
19:12
could outside say hey listen, let this guy through
19:15
But you know, it's interesting. Um is
19:17
now this our version now
19:20
we can bring this out in situations like this
19:23
There's always the what about far right?
19:26
Well now now Jason, can we say what
19:29
about Shepler? Is
19:31
that our version of what about It
19:35
might be I may throw off the Scotty
19:37
Shepler card from time to time moving forward when
19:39
any of these situations come up I'm
19:41
just This myth
19:43
that somehow the police all just
19:45
hey white people just do whatever
19:47
you want Those maybe
19:50
some of you don't know any white people
19:52
who can tell who can go story for
19:54
story about their bad engagement with police It
19:57
happens, but I know one solution to it
19:59
at any time, just kill them with kindness,
20:02
they will fold. And that's been my
20:04
experience. No matter how much disrespect,
20:06
I just kill them with kindness. And then eventually
20:09
they fold. Jason, there was
20:11
that Harvard professor, I think. Didn't he get
20:13
death threats because he did a study of
20:15
thousands of cases of police interactions? And
20:17
it found out that really was no different. Rolling fryer,
20:20
I think. Yeah, and
20:22
he got rewarded for it with death threats. But it kind
20:24
of reminds me of that situation about two separate worlds that
20:26
exist for white and black Americans. I think there is a
20:28
difference. I
20:30
remember when Saturday Night Live decades ago was still
20:32
funny. They had this one classic skit where Eddie
20:35
Murphy dressed up and was put up in the
20:37
makeup as a white guy. So he said, OK,
20:39
what's it like being a white man in America?
20:41
So he gets on the bus and everyone's nice.
20:43
Soon as a black guy leaves, everyone has a
20:46
party. So the black guy gets on, everyone's quiet
20:48
again. Goes into a store and he tries to
20:50
pay for something. And the guy behind the counter
20:52
says, what are you doing? I'm paid for it. He
20:54
goes, no, no, no, take it. Take it. Take
20:56
it. There are people
20:58
that actually believe that that exists. Yes,
21:02
there are. Steve, I want to
21:05
move on to a topic I think you
21:07
would enjoy. You're in the
21:10
comedy like me. Shannon Sharp
21:13
had on the white comedian Gary Owen,
21:15
I believe, is his
21:17
name. And he's quite popular with
21:20
the community, as you like to say, Steve.
21:25
But Shannon Sharp is taking a lot
21:27
of blowback for this interview. And people are
21:30
coming up with reasons just to attack
21:32
Shannon Sharp time and time again. I
21:34
want to play just an excerpt of one
21:36
of the things Gary Owen said that the
21:39
griot or someone wrote about and how dare
21:41
Shannon Sharp allow this white man to say
21:43
this. Gary Owen, I think,
21:45
was previously married to a black woman, has
21:48
kids with her. I think
21:50
he's remarried another black woman. He
21:53
talks on this about his preference for
21:55
black women play the clip. Were
22:00
you always attracted to black women always it's
22:02
like being gay gay guys know
22:04
they're gay. Why they gay They don't know why they're
22:07
gay. They're just gay right same way always
22:09
like to from birth That
22:14
clip Irritated triggered the
22:16
griot among other things. He said
22:18
that there are there they're Mad
22:22
because the Shannon Sharpe like Gary
22:24
Owen Talk and
22:26
make jokes and analogies that really
22:28
only a black comedian is supposed
22:30
to be allowed to do and
22:33
Shannon Sharpe just continues to find himself
22:35
in the crosshairs and and
22:38
I think it's an example of like They're
22:42
gonna bring this dude down out of sheer
22:44
jealousy And this is we're looking at a
22:46
crab in the barrel example that we talk
22:48
about all the time And I can't believe
22:50
I'm on the other side of it I've
22:53
been the biggest Shannon Sharpe critic in the
22:55
media for his what he did
22:57
on undisputed But I've been celebrating him
22:59
for what he's doing on Club. Shae.
23:01
Shae because I have to admit it's
23:03
good. It's great It's entertaining. He has
23:06
a sense of humor. I like him
23:08
and Ocho Cinco on my cap But
23:10
the community is out to get Shannon
23:12
Sharpe Your thoughts now
23:15
wait a minute. So Gary is
23:18
a comedian of note Who
23:20
likes the sisters? So
23:22
is either a verse NFL first round
23:24
drop choice. It's the white guy
23:28
That dips into the Hershey, okay
23:32
the issue as
23:35
I was thinking about this subject. Um
23:39
You know what this reminds me of Jason the blowback that
23:41
he's getting and I mentioned to you a few days
23:43
ago I think it's really unfair what's happening to sharp
23:46
No matter what position he takes no matter who
23:48
he brings on no matter the tone of the
23:50
interview He's gonna get
23:52
blowback because if you try to please everybody
23:54
you please nobody But what
23:56
is happening to him and club. Shae Shae
23:58
reminds me a lot a lot of a show
24:00
that I'm sure me and you watched hundreds of episodes
24:03
in the late 80s, probably from 88 to about 91 at
24:05
its peak. Arsenio
24:09
Hall. I'm sure you
24:11
must have watched it Jason as much as I did. Arsenio
24:14
Hall, for those of you who are a lot
24:16
younger than us, and I am assuming we do
24:18
have a younger generation here on
24:20
Fearless, he was the antidote
24:22
to the Tonight Show. He was the
24:24
urban young black version of it and
24:26
everybody loved it. It was, all my
24:29
classmates watched it, but
24:31
Arsenio Hall was this
24:33
young, energetic, friendly face
24:35
that everybody loved and he was black. He
24:37
was the dog, the dog's got it. And
24:41
if you look at that audience, it was,
24:43
there was a mixture of people. It transcended
24:45
and it did very good ratings for about
24:47
three, four years. It was the Hot Show.
24:50
He'd bring on NWA. He'd bring
24:52
on Public Enemy. MC Hammer brought
24:54
all of Oakland. They did a set one
24:57
time. I mean, look, MC Hammer
24:59
went broke because of his entourage and it was worth
25:01
it. They did. Let's get it started. It was unbelievable.
25:04
He would bring on acts that
25:06
no one else would. A lot of
25:08
hip hop acts, a lot of R&B used
25:10
to bring on boxers all the time and
25:12
it was a great show and it was
25:14
funny. However, there came a
25:16
point and I think the point was when
25:19
he brought on the Minister Louis
25:21
Farrakhan. And at that point,
25:23
things started to change that it was too
25:25
black for certain parts of America, but other
25:27
parts of America that were black were saying,
25:29
no, no, now you're too mainstream. He couldn't
25:32
win, Jason. So you're either too militant
25:34
or you're too mainstream. And all Arsenio
25:36
wants to do is give us an
25:38
hour of entertainment. And he did that
25:40
very well. And eventually I
25:42
believe the downfall of
25:44
Arsenio Hall and that fine program, it
25:47
wasn't the white audience that had a problem with it. They
25:49
still enjoyed it. It was the other people.
25:54
Totally at Virgil. I know you know
25:56
Gary Owen. Yeah. I like
25:59
his comedy. funny i think
26:01
my i picked up on when we talk about
26:03
the black church he had a black girlfriend with
26:05
the black church in he didn't know he didn't
26:08
know that it was going to be long and
26:10
he talked about it was really really funny got
26:12
the guys hilarious i think the crabs in a
26:14
barrel situation with with uh... shannon sharp and club
26:16
shay shay he's been
26:19
shannon has tried to appeal to the
26:21
black community and now because
26:23
he's such a star everybody
26:25
wakes up now thinking about how they can
26:27
take them out and they're just trying to
26:29
gain attention following as a result and so
26:31
they're claiming to be upset this is this
26:33
is a this is false they they love
26:35
they love own when he's making jokes in
26:37
it but but when they see as an
26:40
opportunity to to elevate their platform now
26:42
they're now the taking shots in shannon shannon's go ahead
26:44
growth excuse me and deal with it it's
26:47
funny i can't and i know people
26:49
watching this but we've got what are
26:51
you doing you know cuz
26:53
i've questions some
26:55
things about shannon sharp the relationship
26:58
with the uh... hairdresser
27:00
or stylist right you know got a lot
27:02
of sugar in his tank and
27:04
and shame on the court yet and his uh...
27:07
judgment of or what
27:09
does that say that you know you're
27:11
traveling around and and again y'all know
27:13
how i am about the alphabet mafia
27:15
and the ritual in hollywood
27:17
of like if you want to be elevated you
27:20
better partner up with the alphabet crew right
27:24
i gotta move all that to the side
27:26
and just evaluate shannon sharp on what i'm
27:28
being on the show and
27:30
what i'm seeing on the show seems
27:33
authentic it's the real
27:35
shannon sharp it's
27:37
i complain the entire time behind the
27:39
scenes just grumbling the friends not to
27:41
anybody in importance when we worked at
27:44
fox force like look at this uh...
27:47
malcolm etch stick he's doing it's
27:49
not authentic this guy
27:51
on club chéché and on my cap
27:54
i think is being very authentic and
27:56
i'm just sorry it's very entertaining and
27:58
i'm sitting here shop like why can't
28:01
we enjoy this? Why can't we support
28:04
what he's doing? There's
28:06
an evolution that is taking place because if you go back, I
28:09
remember when you said that two things, I think it
28:11
was a while back you had on this show and
28:13
you kind of showed some of the shtick that
28:16
Shannon was involved in and Shannon
28:18
Sharpe did and it was real, you know, trying
28:20
to be cool and hip and embracing
28:23
kind of hip-hop culture. The Little Rag,
28:25
The Muntz, The Hennessy, all of that.
28:27
And then when you look at, because
28:29
he's had club ché ché for a while, but
28:31
if you watch where he
28:33
is now, there's an evolution that
28:36
is taking place of his ability
28:38
to properly interview, to come across
28:40
authentic, to still be him and
28:42
engage. It's really interesting to watch.
28:44
If you're a student of kind
28:46
of that evolution, you see it, you
28:48
see the difference and it's marked
28:50
now, it's a marked difference and
28:53
people recognize it. If they want to get to
28:55
that level, the best thing for the GRIO
28:57
or organizations like that to do is to
28:59
say, I hate this or this white
29:02
guy said this or somebody did that and in
29:04
order to elevate their platform, that's all this
29:06
is about. Steve, I'll give you the
29:08
final say and I got one more topic for you. Yeah,
29:10
a couple of things. Number one, Shannon's going to have
29:12
to be an armadillo. He's going to have to have
29:15
very tough skin and realize you're never going to please
29:17
everybody. You can't care. I actually looked at
29:19
that article of the GRIO and that author, I think
29:21
her name is Monique Jones. She seems to be one
29:23
of these people who doesn't realize not
29:25
everyone's going to have the same worldview as her.
29:27
She tries to tell black and white what to
29:29
think and if anyone
29:32
disagrees, then it becomes quote
29:34
unquote problematic. She seems to almost have
29:36
this God complex. Look, the only thing that I
29:38
would criticize Shannon for in the last couple of
29:40
months is having having
29:43
misinsuparable Amanda Seale. That's the only
29:45
thing I can really be critical
29:47
of. But the bottom line is this.
29:49
Here's the issue. You get
29:52
this a lot like who's this guy to say anything
29:54
about this community? I get this a lot because I'm
29:56
Asian and you know, last week or
29:58
so, I remember I was at Coaching. JB's house,
30:00
I was watching the fights, they're playing poker, and I wrote
30:02
a tweet and I said during
30:05
the whole Drake and Kendrick conflict, I
30:07
said, you know, I find rap beef
30:09
nowadays frivolous and silly, okay?
30:12
And they're also very dangerous, didn't put that, and
30:14
some black guy comes out, this conversation ain't for
30:17
you, and I said, yeah, it is for
30:19
anybody, it's pop culture. And he
30:21
said to me, you need to stay out of it,
30:23
and I said, I don't need to, but
30:26
I can stay in it if I want to, I can
30:28
talk about anything I want, and he said, well, what
30:31
if I start talking about Asian issues or K-pop? I
30:34
said, go ahead, I don't follow you, I'll never
30:36
hear it, I wouldn't take it seriously, just like
30:38
you don't have to take me seriously, and all
30:40
I said was, look, you are
30:43
free to unfollow, or I could
30:45
block you, it's fine. See,
30:47
you have to understand one thing, people
30:50
are going to disagree with you.
30:54
More and more, I find myself not blocking
30:56
people on Twitter or social media, I just
30:58
mute them. To me, it's
31:00
great, you get to listen to me and
31:02
I never get to hear you. It's a
31:04
complete advantage for me. But this whole notion
31:06
that somehow you shouldn't talk about
31:08
something, look, anyone that wants to talk
31:10
about the Asian community, go
31:13
ahead. It is your
31:15
first amendment right, it would not bother
31:17
me. Because number one, most likely, I
31:20
wouldn't care, which I don't. And number two, I'm
31:22
never going to listen to you, I don't follow
31:24
you. But Shannon's
31:26
got to be tough here and understand
31:29
that I have a
31:31
brand, I'm going to do me.
31:34
And once you start placating
31:36
the perennially aggrieved, your
31:39
show quality will suffer. And
31:42
that's going to be the next test,
31:44
if can you handle the success of
31:46
your own show? Since
31:49
2007, Folds of Honor has
31:51
provided life-changing scholarships to the spouses and
31:53
children of America's fallen or disabled in
31:55
combat. And in 2023, this was extended
31:57
to include the
32:00
families of fallen first responders. They've
32:02
awarded 51,000 scholarships and more than
32:05
200 million dollars so far
32:07
and the need is still great
32:09
but together we can make sure
32:11
no qualified applicant is turned away.
32:14
Flying Ace has aligned with Folds
32:16
of Honor to ensure the children
32:18
of our American heroes receive the
32:20
education they deserve. As proud
32:22
supporters of Folds of Honor, Flying Ace
32:24
has had the privilege of providing hope
32:27
for the families of those who protect
32:29
our freedom. To that end, Flying
32:31
Ace is proudly sponsoring four scholarships
32:33
awarded quarterly this year. Please, if

33:04
Great point. The final topic
33:07
I want to bring up with you,
33:09
the NFL Accelerator Program. The
33:11
owner's meeting will be here in Nashville,
33:13
Tennessee next week. They started four or
33:16
five years ago with this NFL Accelerator
33:18
Program where they try to
33:20
put black coaches in a room with
33:22
ownership to accelerate their advancement
33:24
to head coaches. It
33:28
made news this year because Brian Flores,
33:30
who's suing the league, is
33:32
now going to participate in
33:34
the NFL Accelerator Program. There's
33:37
a multitude of reasons why I
33:39
think this is a mistake. All
33:42
it's going to do, and this is
33:44
what blows my mind about sports, it's like
33:46
the tradition of sports has been
33:48
about people putting their superficial petty
33:50
differences aside, coming together to work
33:52
together in a meritocracy and
33:55
for one goal. Because
33:58
the NFL has bought into the diversity,
34:00
equity, inclusion. Hey, we got to bend
34:02
over backwards for this certain segment because
34:04
they're complaining that they don't get jobs
34:07
because all these white owners that pay
34:09
the players, predominantly black, millions upon millions
34:11
of dollars, oh, they don't want
34:13
to pay a coach $5 million to be the
34:15
head coach. It's all a joke. I
34:18
just think it just sows
34:20
the seeds of
34:22
division within
34:24
football among the coaching fraternity.
34:27
You can't tell me that white coaches
34:29
aren't sitting around like, where's my accelerator
34:32
program? I want to be a head coach
34:34
too. Why can't we just get
34:36
out here and grind to go get it the way we always
34:38
have? It's, I
34:40
don't like the NFL accelerator program, but it's
34:43
the world they've created. Yeah,
34:46
but Jason, I will say this. I
34:49
would rather see former players of any
34:51
color get these
34:53
opportunities that they are deserved more
34:56
than women getting these highfalutin front
34:58
office jobs who never played the
35:00
game of football. I
35:03
mean, I made this point on Coach J.B. show
35:05
about four or five months ago before it was
35:07
official. I said, you know what? If the Raiders
35:09
are really about diversity and I know they have
35:11
this female president, I believe
35:13
she's black and in the tradition
35:16
of Amy Trask, Mark Davis wanted the virtue signal
35:18
that, right? And I said, okay, if you're all
35:21
about that, you make Antonio Pierce
35:23
your coach. You let him lead men as
35:25
a guy that put in a dozen years
35:27
in the National Football League. You
35:29
know, I will, I'm just gonna tell you, I'm
35:31
not saying that your point is wrong, but
35:34
I would much rather see former black
35:36
players who have put in the time, be
35:38
the leader of men on the sidelines and then
35:41
eventually work their way up to the front office
35:43
like an Ozzy Newsom, than a bunch
35:45
of women that have never played the game. You
35:48
may disagree with that, but that's my feeling.
35:52
You're talking my language. I
35:55
agree with all of that. a
36:00
special ed short bust for coaches. I
36:02
mean, that's what we're talking about. Like, you couldn't make
36:05
it for real, so we're gonna have a program to
36:07
help you to get into the room
36:09
with the right guys. It's just, it's silly, and
36:11
it creates a permanent second-class
36:13
citizenship as it relates to coaching.
36:16
It's really foolish. Steve, final
36:18
thought. I'm gonna let you go.
36:20
Yeah, speaking of the whole issue of black
36:22
coaches, Jason and Virgil, I don't
36:24
know if you know this, you know the whole
36:26
UCLA football staff this year, led by Deshaun Foster,
36:28
former Bruin Great, you know
36:30
the whole staff is black? I
36:33
find that to be fascinating. I actually think
36:35
it's a more interesting story than Deion Sanders.
36:38
Wow, I did not know that, that is interesting.
36:40
Yeah, the whole staff top to bottom is black,
36:43
and I'm thinking, wow, now this is bold. This
36:45
is putting your money where your mouth is, and
36:48
look, Deion's Deon. It's a brand, we don't know
36:50
how long he's gonna be there. Foster
36:52
is a young man out of Tustin, California.
36:55
I remember his career very well during
36:57
the Cade-McNown era, and
37:00
had a nice NFL career, and they're trying something
37:02
bold, because UCLA is a program that
37:05
has great tradition, but they have certain
37:07
limitations based on the budget, what they
37:09
can do, and now they're
37:11
working into a big super conference, and
37:13
look, I like it. Let's see what they can do. I
37:16
believe that if you really care about
37:19
the movement of black coaches, it's
37:22
just 98% of the focus just can't be
37:24
on the guy in Boulder, Colorado. To
37:27
me, you need to show Foster and that
37:29
staff to do great work, and
37:31
then show that, hey, look, this can work, that
37:34
if you get qualified men of any color,
37:36
you could advance this particular movement. I just
37:38
thought I'd throw that out there. Thank
37:42
you, Steve. Great job. That's
37:44
it, and that's all from
37:47
us. I think I hear Tamara playing. That
37:49
means we'll see you next week. I'll
38:31
be free.
