CONTENT WARNING: Loving Annabelle has mentions of suicide and self-harm so we touch on this briefly. In this episode, we’re talking all things Catholic school! The 2006 film, Loving Annabelle, directed by Katherine Brooks and starring Erin Kelly and the late Diane Gaidry, explores areas such as teenage rebellion, sexuality, mental health and a forbidden relationship between an English teacher and her new student. Annabelle Tillman arrives at the school as a last resort after being expelled from her two previous ones, she’s set out to cause chaos from the very beginning and isn’t phased by repercussions she may face by disobeying the rules. Miss Simone Bradley is Annabelle’s English teacher, she’s astute, reserved and has quite the dark past which we find out later on in the film. Whilst we both like this film, it’s important to note the problematic aspects in regards to a teacher student relationship and both of us give our thoughts on how our perception changed from watching Loving Annabelle for the first time around the age of 14 in comparison to how we see it now as young adults.
