Well-researched and informative.
You can't call yourself a true music fan if you haven't taken a moment to listen to even just one of these episodes. Do yourself a favor and hear the well curated stories told here.
Un-listenable sensational nonsense. Listen to his laughable description of an LSD trip in the Grateful Dead episode to get a sense of the depth of insight this podcast is capable of providing - some reefer madness style garbage. Poorly researched, surface level rehashing of myths anyone who knows anythinf about music already knows.
Jake the host is magnetic, and the writing is unique in the "true crime" genre, though this podcast really defies categorization. Jake is a special talent, and I enjoy all of his work I've heard so far. Great research and production as well. I look forward to every new episode of Disgraceland, as well as his other podcasts "27 club," "Badlands," & his collab with Payne Lindsay "Dead and Gone" (talk about a dream team with those two at the healm).Rock-a-rolla!
This podcast is so maticulously stylishly confidently produced and thought out - it's RIDICULOUS. It is so good I have caught myself saying outloud, "This guys just showin' off now." It's crazy good , this one. Evenn if I am not a fan of the subject he is featuring- I tune in. Disgraceland (about iconic musicians /band/ singers) and his other podcast Badland (about film stars) have never disappointed me. A truly phenomenal listen. My friends thanked me for the recommendations.
ETA: It looks like this podcast is not freely available starting Season 4. I have Amazon Prime, but I feel like my life is complicated enough that I am not going to start using a different podcast app for just one podcast (love you, Pocketcasts!). So, even though I love this podcast and I have theoretically already paid for it, I guess it's dead to me. (ツ)This podcast is outstanding. Jake Brennan's ability to tell a story, his sound design, his research, his perfect sense of timing, make this podcast a gem.
