Episode 6_ The Stories We Choose Not to Tell with Special Guest Lori Silverman

We talk about the following:

Technology, Age, Energy and Culture

The importance of people & processes

Storytelling for business—and how the stories we choose not to tell are just as telling as those we choose to tell

Data—it’s importance and it’s misuse

Decision scientists vs. data-scientists & decision intelligence vs. data science .

Lori’s #1 Culture-Hack: Sit back and ask yourself: why am I here, what am I meant to do, and then find work that makes that fulfilling.

About Our Guest:

When radio and TV hosts interviewed Lori Silverman about her book, Stories Trainers Tell, every single one asked: “Can story be used for more than training?” This motivated her to spend the next three years uncovering a variety of business applications, which are in her book, Wake Me Up When the Data Is Over. When her third bestseller, Business Storytelling for Dummies, came out in 2013, it solidified her thought leadership in the field. One chapter developed into a unique framework for transforming data into insight and action, which she speaks about worldwide. As the Shift Strategist, and CEO of Partners for Progress, Lori has helped organizations in 25 different industries strategize about their future and navigate large, messy, complex changes. She is also an adjunct professor at Golden Gate University, teaching the only graduate course in the world on Strategic Thinking in the Industrial and Organizational Psychology field.

About Our Host:

Daniella Mestyanek (Mest-aa-neck) Young is an author, TEDx speaker and Organizational Culture-Hacker with fascinating life story and important insights into culture, socialization and group behavior. Daniella is the President of DMY Enterprises and the co-founder of cavnessHR.

Daniella was born and raised a third-generation member of the infamous religious cult the Children of God, known for promoting religious prostitution, pedophilia for God, and the end of the world. At 15, she escaped that life, moving to America and eventually becoming a US ARMY Captain.

During her journey, she was college valedictorian, served as part of the first group of women to conduct deliberate ground combat operations with all-male troops, deployed twice to Afghanistan where she also competed in, and won, a marathon, received the Presidential Volunteer Service Medal from President Obama personally, married an Army helicopter pilot, is raising a trilingual little girl in Seattle, WA and is hard at work on her forthcoming memoir, Uncultured.
