Episode 13_Nobody Cares About What You’ve Done: Identity and Transition after Military Service

We talk about the following:

Having to change your mindset to join the military, and then again to leave

The impact of 9/11 on those who served

Leadership training in the military

Indoctrination and becoming part of a group

How hard it is to adjust to less stress AND less adrenaline when you leave the military

Loss of identity and purpose

Developing emotional intelligence and understanding that there is a lot you don’t know

Great Quotes:

“you have to understand that the way you talk to people, the way you carry yourself the way that you interact with others, the way that you may give instructions, if you're like in a management position, it's much different than how you how you did that stuff in the army.”

“I really think one of the most important question that any veteran can ask themselves when they're getting ready to leave the military is, you know, what do I really want? If you’re waiting till you got out, you waited too long.”

Jeff’s #1 Culture-Hack: You set your own conditions, so own it, Own your conditions. And you're going to find that the loyalty that you drive from the folks that you're leading is going to be much is going to be much better then, and your product is going to be a lot better.
