I enjoy the hosts even measured tones and calm yet enthusiastic discussions regarding games . I am anxious a lot of the time this podcast helps me remain calm . Their positivity shines through which is always welcome .Character creation is a great insight into a game system .
Character Creation CastThanks, Frithkin! It's been just about a year since we read this review on the show, too! And it was our April 1st cold open, which was an amazing amount of fun.http://oneshotpodcast.com/character-…
A unique podcast all about exploring how to make and play characters in all sorts of RPGs. Great hosts who are charming and positive. My favorite thing is how they discover themes and similarities in character creation in wildly different systems. Plus, great interviews with designers.I'm also impressed with how they try to make the content useful for anyone playing RPGs, not just players of that specific game. So good!
Go listen to these fine folks create characters and talk about the system they're using to do so! You won't regret it!
I started listening to the Numenera episode with Darcy Ross on the One Shot podcast and was super impressed by how enthusiastic and engaging she was. I found CCC by searching for any other Numenera podcast's she'd hosted and thought it was fantastic! It's the perfect balance between being really informative when digging into the systems and also just being really chilled out and entertaining. I love all of the guests and it's inspired me to get my first ever DM'd campaign going.Cheers guys!
C3 is a wonderful way to expose yourself to new games. By focusing on character creation, perhaps one of the most wide-reaching parts of gaming, you get to see a lot of what really makes a game tick. Ryan and Amelia are great hosts, with a good chemistry, and their guests are always passionate about the game being discussed. Put it all together, and you get a wonderful podcast.
Are you suffering from "alt-aholism"? Do you have stacks of unplayed character sheets higher than your dog is tall? Are you "that player" who brings a backup PC to a nonlethal game *just in case*?If so, then chumly, this pod's for you.C-squared takes me way back home to the first fun I ever had in TTRPGs: cooking up the peoples. Its hosts are the rad-iest.Its jokes are the dad-iest.Its goals are the loftiest. Its tone is the soft-iest.Its games the art-iest.Its guests the smart-iest.Listen for the eps that are essentially "Kickstarter spotlight let's play session zero" AND for those that are "But like what even IS personhood, ya know? *SQUINTS AND RAISES EYEBROWS ELON-MUSK-LY". All of 'em are great. How to get 6 stars out of 5:Spotlight summa dem ol' timey gamez wot hav wild n' wooly character generation methods. Yer GAMMA WORLDs 7ed, yer WARHAMMER FANTASY ROLEPLAYs 3ed, yer INTO THE ODDs, yer ATOMIC HIGHWAYS, yer DARK HERESYs, et alia.
Character Creation CastMuch appreciated for the review! We loved the ad format, and we hope we did this review justice reading it on the latest episode. 😁
One of my favourite Podcasts out there. The enthusiasm and friendliness that Amelia, Ryan and their guests showcases makes the episodes a delight to listen to. All of the interesting and different RPG-systems is a lovely bonus.CCC is a bright light in a gloomy current. A lovely fluffy blanket of nerdery, love and fun to ward of the cold reality. Give it a listen, you wont regeret it, I promise
So. I clicked into CCC following an ad on OneShot.I was not disappointed.By taking a formulaic approach to the show, giving a brief analysis of the system, then character generation, and then discussion of advancement and what stories can be told with those characters, CCC provides a balanced set of "review this game without reviewing this game".If you're struggling with a new game you've bought, this podcast is a terrific guide to the core of any game: the characters. The addition of the guests keeps things super fresh and interesting (I'd love to hear more Jef and Jon, BTW) and the wide variety of games used means there's sure to be something for everyone.
Character Creation CastThank you so much for the fantastic review! This meant a lot to read! Also, we agree that we need to get Jef and Jon on again. Perhaps something aside from a superhero game next time? Whatever we do,…
I came across the One Shot Network back in December of last year and branched out to C3 in March. Since then I've binged about two thirds of their backlog and it has become one of my Top 3 podcasts. Amelia and Ryan do a great job diving into various TTRPG systems through the lens of character creation. They either have guests who are deeply familiar with the system as fans, players, or actual play podcasters; or the creators of the system. Between the guests and the hosts, each episode is full of insight into the system of interest. Their Character Evolution Cast episodes are full of insight into the hobby overall. They have a focus on advice for players but there is advice to take away from a player, GM, or even a designer point of view. Obviously the content on its own is enough to draw anyone in, but the hosts' attitude is what really secured this as being one of my favourite podcasts. They approach each game with an open mind, even if it is not their normally their style of game and they always ask great questions that lead to an intelligent discussion. Either listen from the beginning or pick a series that catches your eye, you can't go wrong with Character Creation Cast.
Character Creation CastThank you so much for listening, Cole! We're really happy to have you with us! Once things settle down, we truly hope to dive back into the Evolution Cast episodes, because those are some of our favo…
I love listening to this podcast because it's great being able to take part of an unfamiliar rpg for a test drive before you get it. And it's nice to know that I'm not the only person that struggles with names. Keep up the great work you two!
Character Creation Cast is for RPGs like eating just the delicious cream out of an Oreo. The process is so pleasant and they get to dive into a game and show the best parts.Let's make some people!
Character Creation CastThank you so much, Scott! That is a fantastic simile, too. ?
A good look at the process of creating characters in a wide variety of game systems.
Character Creation CastThank you so much for the review and for listening!
This show is wonderfully close to perfection. The format is phenomenal, a really innovative idea to explore different RPG rulesets by creating characters. The games showcased vary from the well-known to the obscure, which is excellent for learning about new systems and sometimes even ongoing Kickstarters that might peak your interest. I do however have a major gripe with the show, and that's why I cannot give it five stars. One of the hosts (Ryan) is always professional and insightful. He brings excellent conversation points to the episodes but is also able to understand when a topic is going off-rails and needs to be reined in to avoid lenghty boring episodes. The same cannot be said about the other host. Amelia is lovely, I have nothing against her as a person, but she is the opposite of Ryan. While occasionally raising valid points and bringing insights to the conversation, she often derails it, sometimes even bringing in her personal opinions in a way that is directly detrimental to the showcasing of a game system itself (the traveller episodes come to mind, where she would complain costantly). If you can get past that, the show is lovely and definetely worth a listen. As for me, I can only occasionally stomach it, except for the episodes where Ryan is hosting by himself.
This podcast gave me a lot of great insight into so many marvelous games. The hosts bring their experience, enthusiasm, and a lot of fun to the table. Their guests often bring their own unique viewpoints. This podcast is a delightful showcase for a fun hobby!
