What’s the difference between your hustle and your passion? Are they the same? Just two of the thoughts that came to mind in our chat with the brother-sister team behind the award-winning web series “Blue Collar Hustle”. Alonge (@alonge_hawes) is creator, executive producer, and director while Shani (@blue_shani) is a producer and actress in the series. At its core, “Blue Collar Hustle” is about black, middle-class millennials going after their goals. It’s about the #dayjob and the #dream – and what motivates each character to do what they do. To Alonge, showing the various aspects of black life on screen is necessary, and it’s just as important to have black stories told by black people. He says that even “the story that’s uncomfortable is worth telling because it’s unique and likely needs to be told. The caveat is telling it with respect.” We think this team is onto something because they already have a second series, “Black on Both Sides”, in the works.
