Welcome to another episode of The Big The Big Interview Podcast. I know what
0:09
you want, I know what you think. You right know. I don't
0:16
mind. I'm sad of being alone with so much to dragon. People always
0:24
ask me for advice and they're so surprised that I've gotten here. But it's
0:27
just like you have to just believe that it's gonna happen and just don't.
0:31
It's don't give up. Sounds so corny, but seriously, like you never
0:35
know what's around the corner. I was looking at colleges and got signed like
0:37
a week later. Literally Big Boy's neighborhood people there in the neighborhood. First
0:42
off, I would have to say, man, I had to track this
0:45
one down, and I'm not gonna even go into a long intro. Made
0:48
a welcome to the neighborhood. Hey, hey you And for those that know,
0:52
they know if they don't, oh my god. The way that I
0:55
found out too is I just went down made I went down and made a
0:59
rabbit hole. And you are so efing talented it's unbelievable. Well it's believable,
1:07
but your talent for and not even oh she's so young at town.
1:11
You're just talented, and I'm gonna tell you my introduction came. You will
1:15
hear certain things, right, But my fullest deep dive was my wife.
1:19
And when my wife was like, you know, oh, mate, oh,
1:22
you gotta hear this, you got to hear that, And I would just sit and I would listen and I would listen to your voice. At
1:27
one point I was catching the covers, you know what I'm saying, but
1:30
just getting fully in amazing And thank you for being in the neighborhood. Of
1:36
course, thank you for having me. It's my pleasure. It's my pleasure. And I don't want to do a whole backstory. I'm pretty sure you
1:42
have a documentary in your future coming up where I don't have to do it.
1:44
But how did this start off for you? Had you always grew up
1:48
singing, where you're always connected with music, I'm all, that's the only
1:51
thing I've known my whole life is I'm gonna be a singer one day.
1:53
I've always wanted to be, not famous. I just love to sing.
1:57
And I always was the singer my whole life, since I was a kid
2:00
in church and then in school, like that's all I knew. I never
2:04
had a plan b. I don't believe in plan bees, so yeah,
2:07
but then God is working out. Yeah, it is working out for you though, But and you always kind of and just from looking at you did
2:14
enjoy it, you know what I'm saying. And this family, there's family
2:16
members that do music as well or just enjoy it. I was just played
2:21
in the house. It was played in the house, but nobody sings,
2:23
right, Okay. Did you ever think, you know how sometimes you figure
2:27
like, man, will this come to me? Did you know what was
2:30
gonna happen? Or I knew like it was something that was just inside of
2:34
me. I always just knew. Again, I don't believe in plan bes.
2:38
I never had one, so it was like it had to work out, you know. And I was anti going to college right I turned eighteen,
2:43
I kind of started looking at colleges. But then Rock Nations signed me.
2:46
Thank god, I got to leave home, leave Indiana because I was
2:50
like, not gonna stay there. But yeah, and we'll come back to
2:53
the rock Nation. But I do want to touch you. How did Rock Nation find you? So my manager at the time, I was like eighteen
3:00
years old. I was just doing Instagram covers and he sent my cover to
3:05
Omar Grant, who's now president of rock Nation, but he was just an
3:07
an R at the time, and he flew to Indiana. We got dinner.
3:10
I didn't sing for him nothing. We just got dinner. And then
3:13
a few weeks later I was signed and I moved and my life has been
3:16
completely different since then. I was like five years ago. How crazy was
3:20
that grind for you? Though? Because you grow up knowing that you love
3:23
music and you want to sing it. But how is that grind? Is
3:27
there talent shows? Is there anybody that would listen? Kind of thing?
3:31
Yes? I love to sing for everybody. I did a lot of all
3:35
those like stupid reality shows. I did the not stupid right right right.
3:38
I did The Voice, America's Got Talent, American Idol. I never missed
3:40
you want to televise the Voice? I did the blind audition, but it
3:45
didn't I didn't get a chair turn and then it wasn't televised. Think the
3:49
Lord. I hope they never released that footage. They will, Oh it
3:53
was bad. Yeah, it's inevitable though, because soon as they, like
3:55
right now, we probably bringing too much attention. I know, like,
3:58
let me stop talking about Yeah, But so you had made it to the
4:01
taping. Yes, okay, didn't get a chair turned, but I was
4:05
nervous. I think that was the issue. But I couldn't hear anything.
4:09
I was like cover my ear like it was weird. And so the talent
4:13
shows, all the you know, the want to get in on the TV
4:15
shows, So there's a lot of tuition into the school of experience before we
4:18
get a chance to like know exactly what you're doing exactly. Did you have
4:23
a give up on it? No, I get frustrated with it. I
4:27
think I see my life as a movie sometimes, and I think that even
4:30
how you said documentaries, like every struggle, every time I'm like crying about
4:34
to give up, it's like it's just part of the movie. Like one day I'll just watch this back and be like, thank god I didn't.
4:39
Did the family support support it as well? I think they secretly didn't believe
4:43
it. Like my dad, he's very go to college whatever. My mom
4:46
always supported me, but I think that they had their doubts. I used
4:50
to cuss my brother out because he used to always just like be like,
4:54
you're never gonna make it. Make it. But that's like a little bit
4:56
that was supposed to do yeah, I think people had doubts, but nobody
5:00
ever let me know. And you know, it's crazy, like even with my kids, right, you wish and hope for the best, but then
5:06
also you want to shield them from certain things exactly, And it's not I
5:10
don't think it's about like belief, but it's like, damn, you know
5:14
you wanted to happen for them. But the music business. When someone comes
5:17
home and they say, I want to be a singer. I want to
5:19
be in a music business, that could be a scary thing for a parent
5:25
as well or just anyone, especially in Indiana. They don't know nothing about
5:28
that, you know, like my dad's a landscaper, my mom's a massage
5:31
therapist. They don't know about the music industry. So I think that it
5:34
was a lot, but thank god they gave me the freedom to just do
5:39
what I wanted to do, you know, And did you create more on
5:42
once you got that social media bug where you knew it like, man,
5:45
I could do these covers, I can I could put these out. Yeah.
5:47
I was probably just gonna do that till I died until something happened.
5:50
Thank god something did. But that was just my life. I didn't made
5:54
the Monday's but I'm so inconsistent. I never did it on Monday, so
6:00
I have sound though it sounds good, but it did not work. I
6:04
mean it worked a little bit, but whatever you hear, Yeah, exactly
6:08
sign a nation, you know, and when people think about all, it's
6:12
an introduction and some people will see you blow up and they don't understand the
6:15
backstory. It'd be sometimes where it's like, oh, you know, overnight
6:18
sensation made it, but it's like, man, if it was overnight,
6:21
it was a longe night exactly, and a lot I'm pretty sure a lot
6:25
of sacrifices and a lot of things you had to give up as well. Yeah, I would say that's probably the hardest part, was just the sacrifices,
6:30
my friends being mad at me because I can't hang out. I gotta go do this. I was such a weird. I was a kid.
6:34
I didn't want to go out because I was like there was one time I
6:36
had a crush on a boy and I went to my mom's room when I
6:39
started sobbing because I didn't want to get distracted from my dreams. So I
6:43
was. I was always weird and like sacrificing things as a kid that I
6:46
really didn't even need to but keep the eye on the price. Yeah,
6:51
Like I was a weirdo about it. But I mean when I got signed,
6:55
I moved to La alone. I had to leave my family, I
6:58
didn't have any money. So I think that those are like the little sacrifices.
7:00
But it's just part of the journey. What about the parts of the
7:03
business that's just you know, that's just scary for artists, you know,
7:09
and especially women and things of that nature. You know, you get people
7:13
and you want you got this dream, but sometimes the dream can become a nightmare. Did you experience any of you know, the gatekeepers? And I
7:21
think that's been kind of a theme in my journey. It's a lot of
7:25
men that like to take advantage of younger women. And I've always been very
7:29
open and I'm naive a little bit, not anymore, but at one point
7:31
I was and I have a lot of experience with that, but I don't
7:35
know, it's just made me like stronger. I guess that's like the theme.
7:40
Yeah, and you see it and especially when you think like you want
7:43
something so bad and you know that it's your will and you want it,
7:47
and then you'll have somebody that you feel like, man, this person can
7:51
get me in. This person is the next step. And a lot of
7:56
times, man, you know, it's it's just a lot of bullet that's
7:58
out there too, you know. And you could love the music, but
8:01
then the music business is a little something different for you, right. I
8:05
saw this quote on Instagram the other day. It was like, anything that's
8:07
for me, I won't have to change my character to get it, and
8:11
it was kind of come to me. So I think that that's good advice for anybody that thinks they need to like do some crazy, yeah messed up
8:18
stuff to get to their dreams. Well, you ever in a group where
8:22
you were always solo? I could not do a group? Really, you
8:24
never tried. No, you know, sometimes it to be like you and
8:28
your little homegirls, and then you'll find you'll find it, Like you're better
8:31
at a soulo artists, you just knew. I don't think anybody could sing. That's my issue. If I had singing friends as a kid, we
8:37
probably would have done that. But none of your friends were singers. Is
8:41
anybody not surprised? Are most people not surprised that you're here? And I
8:45
don't mean here in the neighborhood. But just like I knew, I knew
8:48
she was she was destined for this. I think people knew, but I
8:50
think a lot of people, like especially from Indiana, I have a lot
8:54
of people from school that dm me like, oh my god, I can't
8:56
believe it because we went to school together and there weren't really many opportunities opportunities
9:00
music wise. So I think seeing people seeing where I'm at now and the
9:03
people that I'm around and the you know, even being in LA like,
9:07
it's surprising. But I don't think people are shocked. I think people are
9:09
shocked that I'm still doing it now because a lot of people give up.
9:13
I had. I had some singer friends as a kid, but they all
9:16
had plan B. He's like, oh, if it doesn't work, and be a surgeon or whatever. And to me, I was like, what
9:20
right, How could you ever want to do something else? You knew that
9:22
you weren't going to go and get like the college degree and follow down that
9:26
road. Yeah right, No, did before you start doing the covers and
9:33
the covers that we were able to see, were you just singing for anybody
9:35
that would listen out? Yeah? But I was also so shy, like
9:41
my mom had this jewelry party once and I planned on singing for everybody,
9:43
and then the moment came and I cried and ran upstairs. How old are
9:46
you at that time? Probably like ten or eleven, maybe less? Did
9:50
you get stage fright now? Is there anything now? Oh? Every time?
9:54
I'm terrified, But I used to. I just wanted my first tour,
10:00
so that kind of opened me up. People were singing my songs back to me. It was my fans, but I opened up for Jazzone Sullivan
10:05
and her and those tours, I would literally stay by the mic the whole
10:09
time, not move a muscle. The scariest part was walking out in the
10:13
like, I hate it moving in front of people. Wow, I don't
10:16
know. And then I would I would go on Twitter afterwards and search my name and they'll be eating me up on there. Oh but it's okay,
10:22
people know they wouldn't. People did love the performance because the voice and everything,
10:28
but like her stage presence, and I would be like, damn,
10:31
that was my biggest answer, Carey, why did you go look for it?
10:33
Though? I think that's a sign of the times too. But you
10:35
know how you can have a hundred great ones. Then it could be that
10:39
one, and that's the one that said I love First of all, I'm
10:43
like obsessed with myself, So I love explain. Mean, I just love
10:48
knowing what people think good or bad. Like I do it every day just
10:50
because I kind of want to know what people think of me, you know,
10:54
because I see myself now as a product. So it's kind of like
10:58
how do people see me now? So I love doing it, but the
11:01
mean comments, I kind of love it a little bit. Sometimes your intent,
11:07
your intent is to go look, yeah, but not for the hand
11:09
right right right, But just so curious and it's funny to me. So
11:13
so fast forward. Now do you walk around? You know how to pace
11:18
the stage? Now? Yeah? Do you still get the bug? Oh?
11:20
Of course? Do you take a little shot for stage? Do you
11:24
have superstitions that like before our pre witch rituals before you get on, we
11:30
always pray and I always take a shot of Hennessy. I don't know why,
11:33
I just do it helps me loosen up a little bit. And what
11:35
were you doing before you there's a shot of hennessy? You know? Like
11:39
now you probably when I was younger, I would cry before performance. I
11:43
would think about it for a month before, and now it's like, I'll
11:46
just get nervous an hour before and I'm good. Why why do you think
11:50
and not the truma on? But why do you think, like even if
11:54
it was a month before, an hour before, what do you think that is that you know that? I don't know. I used to have not
12:01
nightmares, but I could. I would lose sleep knowing I had to perform
12:03
in front of people in a week. I don't know why. It just
12:05
felt so terrifying. But now it's fun, right, But I think I
12:09
used to have to prove to strangers. Now it's people that know who I
12:13
am, so it's more comfortable and more fun. And I don't have to
12:16
like plan everything. I used to plan every single word I was gonna say,
12:20
and I would rush off the stage. My team would be like, can you breathe? Right? I would talk so fast? But yeah,
12:26
I've gotten better, thank God. And now that you see that you have
12:28
gotten better, though, you know, is there anything now that you and
12:31
not to have people on social media look at it? But dude, do
12:35
you critique yourself any different now? Yeah? I hate watching them back.
12:39
Yeah, I know when we were just out there talking about any of you
12:41
I saw you like, oh, I hate watching the videos back. But
12:46
my team's very hard, not very hard on me, but they do not
12:50
sugarcoat anything. So I have an honest team. That's just like, that was weird. Why did you say that? Oh? Really, they do
12:54
that? You? I mean, I can't like that. You look stupid.
13:01
They don't yell. Okay, it's more of a like they're all from
13:05
New York. They love to talk, and we just like they just make fun of me. But it's good. And when you say now, it's
13:11
a little different because now people do know you, you know, and if
13:15
they don't know you, they're knowing you. Yeah, And they do know
13:18
you, and they know the material as opposed to you going out and probably
13:22
singing a cover song and people like, oh, you know something compared to
13:24
oh, she sounded like such and such like she handled that well. And
13:28
then you know, when you're opening, you know, sometimes most times you
13:33
know, you're waiting for the house to get filled, you know what I'm
13:35
saying, or you're in front of the curtain, and those days are,
13:39
if they're not completely over, soon to be completely over. Do you enjoy
13:43
where you are now? Oh? Yes, I'm having the time of my
13:46
life and I'm going to Europe and I'm traveling the world, and I'm just
13:50
doing all these things that I dreamed of doing. And I think my family
13:52
is kind of an awesome times that just that I'm doing the things that I
13:56
always said I would. But I think that it just shows that consistency works
14:00
and you cannot give up. And it sounds so corny, yeah, but
14:03
you seriously just can't. Is it crazy that music is taking you around the
14:07
world. Yeah, because sometimes I'm like, like, I have my bad
14:11
days, but it's like maybe you get to sing and talk to people and
14:13
get paid, you know, like that's what I do. It's still yours
14:18
though, you know how some people are like, oh, you know,
14:20
Champagne problems are you? Like, no, it's still right, It's still
14:24
your you know what I'm saying, Like everything has issues, Yeah, and
14:28
when people are like, oh if I had that out and like, no,
14:30
you wouldn't right, No, you wouldn't trust me. Yeah, yeah,
14:33
and everybody has And I mean, you could be as happy as you
14:37
want to be with you, I mean, and that's that's that music vibe too. You gotta live what you're talking about, do you put in a
14:43
lot of your feelings. Is music therapeutic for you as well? Yes,
14:46
I am a lover, I'm a Pisces. I'm very emotions. Your birthday
14:50
March sixteenth, Wow, because some of the I've never met the pisces I
14:56
don't like, and I've never met somebody where I'm like, there are pisces.
15:01
My mom rest in peace, Pisces. What was her birthday? She's
15:03
February twenty third. I love February Parces. My son February twenty second.
15:09
Really, yeah, my sister is March fourth. Okay, you know what
15:13
I'm saying. Like, and I've met Jose, who I don't want to
15:16
talk about. But my guy, Jose, he's a piscy man, you know what I'm saying. He always find little parts of the interview then he
15:22
puts that up. I don't want to say too much, but yeah,
15:24
I've never met a pisces I don't like. Okay, good, Yeah,
15:31
but there's like pisces drama. I think parties don't like each other. And
15:33
so you're saying that music is therapeutic for you. Yeah, I'll do a
15:37
sing about my issues. Everything's real, everything's about the same man. The
15:43
same man. Yes, yes, it is. Yeah. So, and
15:48
my wife is just who never comes up to any of my interviews. My
15:52
wife is here, no need to put her on camera. Yeah. So
15:56
you were saying even that that she don't be mad, beat, don't be man. Everybody thinks that's about a woman. It's about a man. Yeah,
16:03
and that's about the same guy. Yeah. So I've been dealing with
16:07
this man for like six years, met him when I moved to LA and
16:11
just fell in love. But it's my first love. I've never been in
16:14
a relationship before. But we are together, not together, not together together.
16:18
We broke up last night literally, oh yeah. But I think that
16:23
I don't know. It's complicated, but everything thing is about him, but
16:29
it inspires me. I think it's hard because it's like I think I'm addicted
16:32
to the emotions of it because it fuels me. He's like my muse kind
16:36
of and when I'm sad, I get to sing about it. So what.
16:40
I hate the word toxic. It's so overused, but it's very toxic.
16:44
But it's fine. It's just not two day, well almost last night.
16:51
I think last night it ended, but I just know it's gonna start
16:55
again. Like, I just know, but y'all don't live together, right, No? Is he ready for everything that's coming ahead of you. I
17:03
think that's an issue. I think there's a little bit of insecurity with that.
17:07
The bigger things get, I think the more I start catching him at
17:10
attitude all the time, and I'm just like, what's your attitude? But it's like, okay, you just did this, you did this, You're
17:15
about to go here. It causes fights. Is he in the business?
17:18
Yeah, so I think he understands it. But and you can't trust these
17:23
men in the business anyway, damn. So thank you for Veronica Jesus Christ.
17:33
I don't think so, yeah, we do. No, I will
17:36
never say the name. We write it down. I'll say, okay, i'll tell you afterwards, tell me now, because because then I got to
17:41
cut back into the interne. So he is somewhat in the business, and
17:48
he's not here. So I don't want to do too, because I mean,
17:51
you know, he's not here because it's obviously he's not as famous as you are. Yeah, damn you. I don't like. I don't like
17:59
dating other artists. There's just such an ego and I think that they have
18:03
a thing where they want amuse. They just want a pretty girl to like
18:06
sing about or like rap about whatever. And it's like, no, they don't. They don't ask questions about you. That's what I've learned dating like
18:11
other artists. But you know what what you've been with him for six years,
18:15
but you all go in and out and you date somebody else, kind
18:18
of date. I date around, but he's dating around two. Like we're
18:21
not loyal, we're not relieving together. It's just we here's the thing.
18:25
We love each other to death, and there's a sense of like we're together,
18:29
but we're not. I know he's doing I'm doing my own stuff.
18:33
And you said it's complicated, complicated, and then you say with the Fellas,
18:37
the Fellas are like, oh, you know something to rap about something, but also don't be mad. In other songs too, you ask did
18:48
you go yeah? What else? Exactly? So when you do write a
18:52
song that's not and something, you know, if there's a song where it's
18:56
beautiful, or there's a song where it's like you know, you kind of
19:00
digging in on a relationship and you see it, you see it start to
19:03
blow up, what does that do? I think it just does nothing.
19:07
But feed his ego. I think he loves it. Really, he's a
19:11
Leo and they're the most narcissistic men of all time. What do you I'm
19:15
a virgo? Okay, I'm not even a zodiac by the way, hey
19:21
man, because I was about to ask you what about virgos? No, I don't know. But everything that you know about a Leo, he fits
19:27
that. Yeah. I like. I like the fire, I like the
19:32
aggression. I think. Anyway, enough about him, yeah yeah, yeah,
19:36
so one more about him though, So so the way that things are
19:41
moving now. And you say, last night y'all had an argument. You
19:45
know, you don't know where it's at now. Yeah, not even an
19:48
argument. We didn't argue. It was just like I can't do this anymore
19:51
because all you do is line. I just catch them line all the time, and it hurts the same every time. It's like mata. Everybody that
19:56
gives me advice, it's like, what do you expect? You know what it is? Start moving, like, know what it is. But for
20:00
some reason, I just can't get out of my damn emotions. Damn anyway,
20:04
but we didn't. We didn't fight last night. It was just like
20:07
I'm done and it's like, okay, I'll get out. Bye, I'm
20:10
going to hit you in the DM next week. I'm gonna be like y'all together. Yeah, he's sitting next to me right now. When do you
20:17
So, when do you start your tour? I just finished tour. I'm
20:21
looking for a tour this year. So did you just finish your your solo
20:25
tour? On my first tour? All right, how did that feel for you? Amazing? I was in Paris in London shows like wow, crazy
20:33
and I came from Indiana, so like having sold out shows in Paris is
20:37
just crazy to me. It was amazing. I have a lot of memories,
20:41
a lot of weirdos. Yeah yeah. And when you said a lot
20:45
of weirdos, just like, okay, let me not sound rude. I
20:51
have amazing fans, but there was just some people I just have like memories
20:55
with, like some weirdos in the crowds, you know what I mean? And are there any are there any weirdos in this room? Maybe? Yeah?
21:02
Okay, just kidding the one I'm thinking, Oh, he's very quiet
21:07
over there, he's right notes. So with your own tour, is it
21:10
different demands for you to do? You have like your own what's on your
21:15
writer contract? My writer is food wise a bottle of Hennessy to sound like
21:21
an alcoholic, but I do need a little shot, okay, whatever,
21:26
a fruit tray, veggie trae, Doritos, hot sheetos. Are you hard?
21:30
Damn? Let my background singers get their own stuff, so it's candy.
21:33
Are you hard to work with? No O? I have gotten a
21:40
lot better because I think that the first few years of my life working with
21:44
a label for the first time, I have my own vision and I'm kind
21:47
of a control freak a little bit. And I've gone through a couple of managers to find the right people. So I think that it took a lot
21:52
of learning. But now my team. I love my team. We all
21:56
work so well together. We're very honest, and we have fun and we
22:00
have a lot of fun. But I am I think that I could be
22:03
annoying, but I'm not like hard to work with. I'm just annoying.
22:07
Like I know, I get outside of music, what do you do or
22:11
what's like a chill time or to go to dinner and drink wine and just
22:15
eat pasta and like online shop is simple? Hey? Is that harder for
22:22
you? Now? Knowing that the world is watching. No. I think
22:26
sometimes when I go on dates with this man, it's hard because people see
22:32
the man I'm talking about all the time. So I think that that's kind of a thing that's not been hard at all, But it's just kind of
22:38
been thinking like, Okay, let's just be careful. I guess do you
22:42
see marriage in your future? I think so, But sometimes I feel like
22:48
I'm gonna end up like Oprah and just never get married. Yeah, easier
22:53
to live with you just somebody that pop out sometimes, Yeah, I can
22:57
go do my own thing. I don't like feeling that's my issue though.
23:00
I don't feel like I don't like feeling like I belong to somebody or somebody
23:03
owns me. I think that's been kind of a weird thing. I think
23:07
that's why I love this relationship that I have so much, because we're not together, so I get to be free when I want to. So we'll
23:12
see the toxic usy Oh, you say you don't like using toxic. Yeah,
23:17
but I don't know a word to replace that way. Well, you said when you when we first started, you said it was a yeah,
23:22
I do complicated hey man, speaking of another word that I saw you hate.
23:27
You don't like vibe? When you say, oh man, oh my
23:30
god, it's a vibe, I just feel like that word it's so over
23:37
yeah. But the other thing with that, it's like, what word do you use? I think that those are just easy words. I think I
23:41
just don't like music being I don't like vibe music. I guess what do
23:45
you listen to? All sorts of stuff? I listen to? What am
23:51
I listening to right now? Today? On the way here, I listened to two thousands hits the whole ride. I was listening to like Lady Gaga
23:56
and Rihanna and Katy Perry. For some reason, I just needed to pick
23:59
me up. I listened to a lot of gospel music. I love R
24:03
and B of course, just random stuff. My family grew up listening to
24:06
like John Mayer and like the Equal like rock, and then when I went
24:10
to school, I started listening to R and B. So really everything. What was jay Z saying to you on the carpet? Okay? So me
24:15
and him are pals. Every year. He's very nice to me every single
24:18
event. Even I went to the Beyonce show in New York and he brought
24:22
me back and I just hung out with hanging the whole time, and then
24:25
he was like, we're gonna go down here. Like he's very nice to me and welcoming. He always gives me advice. At the Book of Clearance
24:33
from here, he came up to me. We caught eyes while he was
24:36
taking pictures, and he came over and he just told me that everybody I
24:38
did the Soul Train Awards and he told me to just keep going. Everybody's
24:41
been talking about your Soul Train performance and it's always just advice. Met Beyonce
24:48
once. She told me she loved my music. Because here's a little story.
24:52
My an R was playing one of my songs in his office at the
24:56
Rock Nation office, and I think Beyonce and jay Z every once in a
24:59
while was just check up on people and walk around, you know, and
25:03
he said that he was I have a song called sexual Love, and he said he was listening to that and he had his head down or whatever,
25:07
and he looked up and Beyonce and jays had walked into his office and he
25:11
said they were like, what is that? And he sent him the song.
25:15
And then a few days later the Rock Nation Christmas party, I met
25:18
her and she told me my music was beautiful and she loved that song,
25:21
so that's kind of the story with that. But I've only met her once. How crazy is that that you would do covers? And were you always
25:30
kind of like a Beyonce? I was psycho. I think that I would
25:33
try to sound like her so bad. I would recreate her performances and take
25:37
videos on myself like doing what she does. So it was a weird obsession.
25:41
What songs? One plus one? I sing that on my tour.
25:45
Yeah, I've seen that now on tour. That's my favorite song of all
25:47
time. The Dream wrote it, and he also wrote a song on my project, which is crazy too. Just yeah, it's crazy. I have
25:53
to sometimes things are so normal now that I have to kind of force myself
25:57
to remember, Like Mada, this is if you were twelve right now,
26:00
you will be sobbing, you know. But when I met her, it
26:03
just felt so normal. So sometimes I'm like, am I jaded? Or
26:07
like you know what I mean? Hold on, that's my wife's song?
26:12
Yeah, go ahead, but it's it's really crazy. Do you do listen?
26:21
That One's a struggle. I'll have to pitch that down if you really
26:25
that's the one I was like, oh, man, can you sing something for us? Yeah? I was going to wait for you, no going
26:33
to because she came all the way here. Yeah, I would with anything
26:37
in particular or anything. I want to hear one plus one because that's your
26:41
favorite. Yeah, I would love to do that one plus one one past
26:45
one. I'll do that fine at nothing at you. Fine ain't something.
26:56
I don't give it them because I got it with you. I don't know
27:03
much about algebra, but I know the one one nichals two and it's me
27:12
and you. That's all we have and the broad is through because baby Pee
27:21
ain't God nothing without a load, and Darling ain't goden for the both of
27:36
us. So come on, baby May loves me. I guess that's damn
27:45
man. Amen, I sing anything else if you want me to. All
27:52
right, well, hey, you don't know Valerie by uh, I really
27:55
don't know that song. Everybody tells me to cover that. I don't know.
27:59
I was going to hit you like, dude, can you please learn Valide? That actually was a song that we talked about doing on tours.
28:04
Oh my god, you would kill that. Yes, I don't know that.
28:10
I don't even not knowing that you did you do it? Well, she wouldn't know, she would like Mallory valideh. Mallory is all right,
28:18
Uh, what else I'll do it? Don't be mad about that, man,
28:26
Okay, I am man. Is that on on the best that you
28:32
have putting on Versachi and black black, get in that. I told you,
28:42
Remember that Bay, Now that I'm laying any sheets, got him brand
28:49
new. I feel so good without you. Was shooting and play those games.
28:59
Yay. Yeah, don't be I started a little too high. Don't
29:04
be man, now that probably I'm on your screens. I've been making new
29:11
friends coming on tie Tie dropped, no time for blues. You took your
29:17
shot block block God blocked you. Hey that you know I've been there before.
29:22
None up, don't be mad. Yeah. In the neighborhood, yum,
29:30
stick around y'all radios, big boys, neighborhood. I was talking about
29:36
it was times where I've seen this these journeys before, and I know you've
29:41
been working extremely hard on your career being you, and I was like,
29:47
dude, I've seen these these things happen, and I'm I can't wait to
29:51
see your journey than you know. And I was talking about how I remember
29:55
just a Destiny's child coming into the neighborhood, just just young and you know,
30:00
can we do the show and you know, and seeing where they Beyonce
30:06
eble where they have went since then? And I mean I can go on
30:08
and on about the people that I've seen that sat in chairs in front of
30:12
us. So I can't imagine and I can't wait to see what's happening with
30:17
you. Thank you very very much. Yeah, and then you too,
30:19
YouTube will stop doing my show and nothing of anybody last time. This is
30:27
probably it. So you're saying you may go out on tour even more so,
30:32
not sure. I know that I have a project with Nada. Do
30:34
you know? K Trinada? What did they? Why am I knowing this?
30:38
He's like a dance music Okay, got you, got you, got
30:42
you. I have a project with him coming out, just like I've been
30:45
crying too much about this man, So I just want to have fun and
30:48
go out and go to the club. So that's what this project is. It's like a little EP that'll come out in the next few months and then
30:52
I have an album, my debut album. I don't know when it's going
30:55
to come out, but that's this year for sure. I just started working
30:57
on it and I'm just singing and crying and whatever. He too tour this
31:03
year, probably, but I don't know yet. It's crazy that you say
31:07
my debut album because it hasn't. I know, everybody thinks my most recent
31:11
project is my debut, but it was. But I'm kind of saying it
31:15
is a little bit because it's doing so well. It's like, okay,
31:17
right, right, right, you want to call it that. It's fine. So now I saw you with for Real? Yes, what's going on
31:22
with for Real? So earlier last year. I can't believe it's twenty twenty
31:27
four now, but I went to Miami and did a few days with him
31:30
and we did a few songs. We did like four or five songs,
31:34
and we haven't put those out yet, so those are on the way too.
31:37
Do you feel like you live in your dream? Oh? Yes,
31:40
yeah, it's just crazy. I don't know. But things when I live,
31:45
when I have those moments, things don't feel like it doesn't feel like
31:48
oh I made. It just feels kind of normal, you know. But
31:52
then it's like I have to remind myself that this is normal, you know
31:56
what I mean? But it is crazy, and I'm making my friends and
32:00
family from home proud, So that's all that really matters. But what do
32:04
your family say about the success thus far? They just my dad's so scared
32:09
I'm never going to come home again. So he's always texting me, like
32:12
trying to get me to go home, and it's like, I'm never going to not go home, you know what I mean. I think that they
32:16
get a little nervous sometimes that I'm gonna get carried away. But I don't
32:20
think that is even in me, you know, I don't think that's I
32:24
have a community. Now. I did move here alone. What brought you
32:29
to La? I got signed It's a Rock Nations, so and that was
32:35
it? Had you ever lived here before? I had been here like once
32:37
for a few days my mom, My mom used to go everywhere with me,
32:39
So yeah, but I've been here since then. I had no money.
32:44
I would just take the train everywhere, in the bus, the train that nobody knows about. And I didn't even have wife. I couldn't even
32:49
afford Wi Fi in my apartment, you know. And now I just bought
32:52
a car the other day. Like it's just crazy how life works. I
32:55
just want to say to not No, I'm just I am. People always
33:00
ask me for advice, and I'm so surprised that I've gotten here. But
33:04
it's just like you have to just believe that it's going to happen and just
33:07
don't It's don't give up. Sounds so corny, but seriously, like you
33:10
never know what's around the corner. I was looking at colleges and got signed
33:14
like a week later, literally, you know, so you never know when
33:16
your moment is. And I just if you have a dream and it's in
33:20
you and you know that that's what's for you, just don't do something else. And you say you just recently bought a car. Is that your first
33:25
car that you bought? Like this is mine? Yeah? Do you have
33:29
a license yet? Yeah? But I just got a year ago and you
33:32
why yeah, because you know why, I'm a year since I have.
33:39
It's been a large portion of my life that I've been Like, man,
33:44
there's a question that I always ask and I even asked when I would go to the DMV, and I still up here. I work at the DMV.
33:50
You answered that question, and the question is did you get into an
33:53
accident on your driver's test? Okay, you know what now, I know
33:59
you do your a little research. Yeah, Terrell show. Yes, I
34:02
did get in an accident in my driver's test, but it was it was
34:07
in a bad accident, but you got in. It was nobody died,
34:14
nobody died, nobody got hurt. The car drive away. So my mom
34:17
took me to get This is an Indian This is why I didn't get my
34:20
license. I took years to get it again, or to try even again.
34:23
I'm madic, Yeah, it really was. I was like sixteen or
34:28
seventeen, and in Indiana, where it's the easiest place to drive in the
34:31
world, so that already tells you something. But I was parallel parking and
34:35
I just hit the car that I was parking by. It was a truck.
34:37
It was like an old red truck. And the guy came out.
34:42
He did not care at all. He was like whatever. And the girl
34:44
was the girl that was with me. She was one of the D and V girls that's like follows every rule, teacher's pet so she was livid and
34:52
my mom was just laughing. But the guy came out, he didn't care.
34:55
You knew you failed then, Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, man.
35:00
I think honestly, I think part of me thought I didn't because I
35:02
was looking at her like is there still a chance? And she was like,
35:05
so obviously I can't pass you. And I was like, damn,
35:08
So do they let you drive back? No? My mom had to come
35:13
get me from the spot from the park, the place where I hit the
35:15
damn car, and I was in the craziest parties. I had to they
35:20
let you drive your own car for that, right, I think everybody does it right. So I was in my mom's car, so she had another
35:25
DMV person to come driver. So it was just a whole mess. So
35:30
she had to get somebody from the DMV to drive her to the scene of
35:32
an accident and then drive you home. The worst part is that they announced
35:37
it at the DMV in front of everybody, so she had to deal with
35:42
the embarrassment of like, my daughter just here is here. She failed her
35:47
test. Her mom will be taking her home now. Please get your failed
35:52
test stamped at window twelve. Thank you exactly. Literally, Hey man,
36:00
that's a different kind of walk of Shane where you're like, I know,
36:07
but you were young too, though kind of, but I was still even
36:13
late. Like it was so funny because all my little cousins were like,
36:15
we're my cousins are like ten years younger than me. They were like, made it, We're going to get their license before they before you, And
36:20
they actually did. But whatever, I haven't Now I love to drive.
36:23
I can't believe I didn't try sooner. Yeah, did you drive here today?
36:30
Yes? I did? Oh, go ahead, now park, you
36:32
put your seat belt on. I did Have you gotten into any fender benders
36:37
or any accidents since then? Yes? You have. Well, there was
36:43
one time I was backing up and I just didn't even look. I've backed
36:46
right into a car with my friend. I was just but not like,
36:50
no reason why. I just didn't look. I hit a tesla. But
36:52
I got out and they didn't have any damage, so it was fine. Did you leave? I left after I got out and checked with them to
37:00
make sure it's okay. Right, So the owner of the tesla was there,
37:02
Yes, okay, so you just didn't leave this He was actually on
37:05
the day. That was the worst part. And the girl. The girl said bye to him. She was like, bye, I think he was
37:10
dropping off at home. Wow, And had they had to awkwardly say bye
37:14
after I hit his car. Everything's so awkward. With me every single story
37:17
I have. Amen, But all my friends voted that I'm the best driver
37:21
out of all of us. That's bad. They're a good driver. I
37:25
really am. I just sometimes am in my own world. I think that's
37:29
the issue. But you back there without looking, so you pretty much drive
37:31
by. Feel like if I don't hit anything, I'm good exactly. Yeah,
37:36
And look you got here today, I did. You didn't park on P one? Did you? I parked on P. Two? Okay,
37:44
as long as I'm good. So right now you're recording your album? Yes,
37:47
are you standing out of your own way? Are you too critical of
37:51
your music now? No? I'm actually my an R fights me because he
37:54
pushes me, like through the Night my song. We recut that so many
37:58
times because I had too much auto tune on it and he wanted me to
38:00
hit those high notes at the end, and I don't want to do that because sometimes I think I can be lazy. I think that I don't.
38:07
I think I sometimes struggle with trying not to seem like I'm proving I can sing, you know, And some people it's just like they you can tell
38:13
they just want you to know they can sing. So sometimes I try to
38:15
avoid that, but then my team will be like stop. So can I
38:22
sing now what? Through the night? The night for it's like a little
38:30
talent. I'm about to take my heels off because they're falling off. Okay,
38:39
I know what you want, I know what you think you right,
38:45
I know I don't mind. I'm tired of being alone, wait too much
38:52
to drag, and I'm tired of wasting some you know that love don't come?
39:00
He say, yeah, how do I know you leave me? Can
39:07
you go for mind? Feeling some things? I ain't feel it? I
39:17
thank you should try try to blow mine. No, no, think you
39:28
should try to dry me through the night, jail. I keep starting songs
39:37
way too high and in the high notes coming. I'm struggling. But whatever
39:40
have you met any No, you sound amazing? Thank you? Have you
39:46
met anyone that you felt like? Damn? Not that they're my peer now,
39:52
but dude, I'm a I'm a fan of this person. Oh yeah,
39:55
like everybody, even the dream like I'll just text him. Who else?
40:00
I feel like? Like Chris Brown? Okay, here's a story.
40:04
The other day. This is the dumbest thing I've ever done in my life.
40:07
I got a text I have a song with Chris Brown that came out a few months ago on his album I can't This is so embarrassing. I
40:13
got a text one night from like Chris Breezy dot management at gmail dot com
40:16
and he was like, hey, made bl blah blah blah, I have
40:19
this song I want you on. He called me from a different number.
40:22
I got two miss calls. I'm so mad, two miss calls. I
40:28
didn't see them. I called him right back. He was like, sorry, my service is super bad, but can you listen to this song and
40:31
let me know what you think? I want you on it? Whatever,
40:34
send me an iCloud link and then I clicked the link and obviously it didn't
40:37
work, and I typed in my information like my iCloud info and then I
40:43
was like, this is a scam. So I sent it to my one
40:45
of my an r's Ethan and I was because I was like, I'm gonna
40:49
make him be hacked it at me. So I sent it to him and
40:52
he was like made it. This is completely a scam. Whatever. So
40:57
then I texted the number back like nice try and they were like ha ha.
41:00
Then I searched the number on cash app that called me and it was somebody named like Lawrence or something. So I was like Lawrence, and they
41:06
said, how did you know? And then I just blocked the number. So I'm an idiot. First of all, I'm I think my phone is
41:10
tapped right now. The whole part of the story that was that I texted
41:15
Chris Brown after like did you send me this link? And he was like no, it's definitely a scammer, and then me and him start talking.
41:20
So basically, right now my phone is taffed. I'm so worried that why
41:23
do you think your phone is? Are you hearing things or something? The
41:27
other day I was trying to like go to dry bar and get a blowout,
41:30
and some weird I some weird I Cloud number popped up or I Cloud
41:35
email popped up. That's not my iCloud. So I'm just like somebody's in
41:38
my phone, and I'm so worried that on Twitter tomorrow I'm about to wake
41:43
up and see something that I don't want to see. Anyway, the moral
41:46
of the stories that I can text Chris Brown and be like did you just
41:50
scare me? And whoever like hacked me, I hate you, amen.
41:55
So because at first I thought I was gonna be Oh it was Chris Brown.
41:59
No, it wasn't Chris Brown, but it came from a Chris Brown
42:01
management. Yeah, and I'm an idiot for believing that in the first place.
42:05
And did you think, like, oh my god, it's on, like I got I think this is before the Chris Brown, before y'all record
42:10
the record. This is like him trying to im trying to get it cool,
42:15
like another song. I can't wait. I already did one. We
42:17
have a song already out, so that one was already Oh so this is
42:21
how long ago? Now with that, I put the Chris Brown song out
42:23
a month ago. Probably it's on his leg his album, like three days
42:29
ago, four days ago. Oh, but thank god the info that I
42:35
typed in, the iCloud info that I typed in was wrong. It wasn't even my iCloud with a different email. So I don't think they got in.
42:40
But I think part of me is like what if I once I clicked
42:43
the link, they got into my phone. They can see everything because I
42:46
changed my passwords. My friends were dying, like they're probably watching you change
42:50
your password. They are, Yeah, do you think they're in my phone?
42:53
Haven't they done anything? Yet because they're waiting. That's what I'm terrified
42:57
for. Yeah, they're waiting, especially if he's been three or four days,
43:00
they're definitely waiting. They're waiting for they're waiting for keypads, waiting for
43:04
patterns. They're waiting for either automatic like uh, Apple account stuff all that.
43:08
Like I got a guy that does that. Can you help me?
43:13
Do you have a cybersecurity man? Just write down your past? Okay everything?
43:20
Yeah? Yeah, made that they tell you, don't hit the link.
43:23
I think that hopefully this was a learning lesson and it's going to prevent
43:27
me from doing that in the future. But I pray to God, nobody's
43:30
on my phone. I'm about to hire in your phone? Yeah, I was about to say that. What's in your phone? Many things? Oh
43:36
do you listen to my sexual music? There's things in there that would come
43:39
out, I mean, not anything crazy. But everybody has stuff on their
43:42
phone. No, we don't. Yes, you do what you're gonna do.
43:45
Put up a picture on my son playing basketball? Oh yeah, I
43:49
have nothing crazy. I mean I don't have crazy things in my phone.
43:52
Okay I do, yes, And without going to DP. What's the worst
44:00
some of the worst things they can find in your phone. I mean, just the obvious that you would assume any young twenty three flirtatious girl, not
44:08
flirtatious nothing with the man. But I mean it's like, I mean,
44:14
you know, no, I don't you know. I'm not a girl,
44:21
That's true. Oh but do I yearn to be There's things? Yeah,
44:25
But honestly I want to be mad because I look good in the things that
44:29
are in my So sometimes I'm like, Okay, if anything happened, I
44:31
hope it's this one. And so the hacker that's out there, man,
44:37
make sure it's the flattering one. Yeah. Please. What about your privacy?
44:40
Now? Do you do you feel like you're giving up some of your
44:43
privacy? I mean I have a big mouth. Obviously, I'm sitting here
44:46
telling you the story and telling you what's my phone, so not enough privacy.
44:51
But I think I'm naturally a private person. Nobody on social media knows
44:55
who my real friends are. They don't know who I'm dating. They don't
44:58
know like the real media on the country in the animata, but they know
45:01
the stupid things that I do. But that's human nature. I think that's
45:06
everybody. I think that's why I don't have an issue being so honest about my life and those things, because it's like we're all human beings and maybe
45:12
it You're just twenty three, yeah, and your twenty fourth is coming up
45:15
in March. What do you do for your birthday this year? I want
45:17
to go to Rio. I've never been to Brazil. Oh my lord,
45:21
have you been before? Yeah? Is it fun? It's very Yeah. I went out there for UFC a event, but yeah, it's fun.
45:27
I never went out there for like parties and clubs and stuff. But I
45:30
can see I'm not really even a partier, but I want to. I
45:34
want to just dance and be in the sun and get ten. And you
45:37
know, will you still have a chance to do that or you're going to
45:40
try to work on your birthday too? Well? I had to push.
45:44
I think I'm doing south By Southwest this year. Maybe, so I had to do the day the week before my birthday. I've told my whole team
45:50
so many times, I've put my calendar, do not book me on this
45:53
day? But if I have to cancel it again, do you feel like
45:57
you're still a hell of a work in progress? Yes? Yes, oh
46:00
my god. Yes. People keep like praising the things that did I did
46:05
last year, but I'm so far from where I want to be, I
46:09
mean, talent wise, performance wise, success wise, like everything. So
46:15
I have a long way to go, but I'm enjoying the journey. Yeah,
46:21
and with you being twenty three, that God willing, there is so
46:23
much ahead of you. Yes, But I think sometimes I feel it about
46:28
that a little. I think artists wise, right, because you have artists
46:32
blowing up at eighteen seventeen years old. So I think that sometimes as an
46:37
artist there's a little bit of not even insecurity. But am I making it
46:42
soon enough? Right? But I think you gotta just trust God and it
46:45
can't be your Yeah, it's your timing too though. What's your relationship with
46:49
Sissa? Never mind her in person? She has supported me a lot on
46:53
social media. She wrote a song on my recent project. I would like
47:00
to get closer with her. So it's a very work relationship, right,
47:05
supportive, but I'm not I wouldn't say what we're friends? Right? So
47:09
when she did right and co write with you, it was just separate areas
47:15
you? Just y? She writes, you write that actually happened when I was first signed? Yeah, yeah, like years ago. So the song.
47:22
We had it in the song vault for like five years and then decided
47:25
to sounded good on my recent project, so we brought it back out.
47:30
Yeah, she man Sin is having a hell of a time too, I know. Yeah. Yeah, that's one thing too, is like she she's
47:37
like how old, like thirty some early thirties, so it's like and she's
47:39
in her prime now. So it's like, I think that it's different than
47:43
it used to be. I feel like at one point that wouldn't have been
47:45
the case, but I think the times and then two made it. And not to disrespect anyone else, you know, but you're making real music and
47:52
those are like timeless collections when somebody and connections. But those are songs where
48:00
when you can get somebody to feel what you're doing, then you can't rush
48:06
that process. Right. Even my album, like it's supposed to come out
48:08
this year, and I'm just like, I know that's not coming out this
48:10
year, you know, like we have two songs we're right, twenty twenty
48:14
four. Yeah, so you think that your album is twenty twenty five.
48:20
Okay, now that you say it right like that, it feels wrong.
48:24
But my last project was suposed to come out a year before it did.
48:28
So sometimes I think I would rather put out quality work than rush it and
48:31
be regretful when it doesn't do well because I rushed it. You know what
48:35
I mean? Are you afraid of success? No? Are you afraid of
48:38
failure? I mean yes, yes, yes, yes? Do you And
48:44
when I say this, do you get in your own way? Sometimes?
48:47
Oh, I'm Probably the biggest thing that's get in my way is myself and
48:53
my thoughts. I overthink everything, so I think that sometimes that's the thing
48:57
that I've definitely struggled with. But thank god I have a team that catches
49:00
it and they're like, Mata, you are crazy. Do you procrastinate?
49:05
Yes, but I always get it. I've always been a procrastinator, even
49:07
in school. But I always are you last minute or you'll get it in
49:10
the last minute. I always pulled through the last second, like, yeah,
49:13
I'll get it done. But it could be something that's a month away and you want to say, oh, let me do that right now,
49:17
so I have three weeks to do You think you'll go back to school.
49:22
My cousin asked me the other day, like, would you ever go to college? Yeah? Maybe, if I want to like, maybe want to
49:29
retire some sings. Know. He was like going for music, and I
49:32
was like, for what? You are in class for music? Like that's
49:37
the dumbest thing I've heard. I would not go to college for music.
49:42
Yeah, to go too, Like, you shut up, stupid. Maybe
49:50
one day if I want to learn something when I'm retired. But you are,
49:52
you are, and sometimes the best positions you can be in is learning
49:57
hands on, and I live in it. I'm working with Pharrell. Why
50:00
would I want to go back to college for music? Even your teacher,
50:04
your instructor to be like, dude, mate, what the doing? Get
50:07
out? We don't want you here, so so take your time with that
50:13
before I let you out of here. Let me ask my wife real quick.
50:15
Anything else you want to know, baby? Yeah? Who is she
50:19
excited to work with? Yeah? Okay, let me get it. Who
50:22
are you excited to work with? Any collabs or anything like that? So I don't have to seem like my wife asked the question. We honestly don't
50:30
have any collabs on the way for the project, not yet. We definitely
50:34
will, but I want to work with John Mayor for sure. My favorite
50:38
song in the world other than one post one is Lesson Learned by Alicia Keys
50:43
and John Mayer. So I would love to do something like I love I
50:46
cried to it like I think I cried to it last night, to be
50:49
honest. After my little breakup? How many things? How many times you
50:52
think you broke up with your guy? Like ten? But there's been a
50:57
few, I mean not really ten. Here's the thing we talk about,
51:00
did we kind of do it for a little bit and then we just fall right back in. But there's been like two times we didn't talk for a
51:06
few months. We always watched together. I dated somebody else, I had
51:08
a whole boyfriend, and then y'all come back. Yeah, right, and
51:14
then you write good material, you know the swift So sex came from sex
51:19
X? Yeah? Yeah, what are you thinking about when you hear that?
51:23
Yeah? Like, who are you thinking about? Give me your phone?
51:32
Let me take that out of your playlist? Right? Yeah, that's
51:36
when I go in the room, like, what are some of the things
51:42
that are on your career bucket list when it comes to awards or maybe acting.
51:47
I definitely want to act. I'm a drama queen in real life,
51:52
so I think that i'd be good at crying the other day, I had
51:54
a crime in music video and I kind of killed it. But I had
51:58
to watch Forrest Gump the grave scene that gets me. Forrest Gump is my
52:01
favorite movie. And if I watched the grave scene, no matter what,
52:05
if you put it on right now, start crying. Wasn't Forrest Gump out before you were born? And it's still a good movie. So that's so
52:14
you're literally on the set looking at a monager. I had to watch it
52:17
cry. They'd be like go and then I would put it down and just
52:21
sing the song and I had tears ago down my eyes. Yeah, well,
52:25
speaking of it, when I got that anything for the shot? Did
52:29
you get bit by a snake? Oh my god, you guys. Anyway back to your question, I just about to ask the same one, but
52:35
I was actually wondering, like, if it scarred you, it traumatized me.
52:39
It is a whole different scar But so you had a snake in your
52:45
video. Yeah, it wasn't my idea, and I kind of was just
52:49
like, whatever about it. It never is somebody putting you in danger,
52:51
right, but you know it's crazy. I didn't sign any waivers. I should have sued them after that happened, but it's so long ago whatever,
52:58
and I'm not really pressed anymore trauma, just knowing the story. But yeah,
53:01
like I was laying there and I could feel, I could literally sense
53:05
it was about to do something. I could see it looking at me, and in the video you can see it's literally like iron Me and I kept
53:09
telling them like, oh, this one's not supposed to be that close,
53:13
and then it just reached up and me and I grabbed it. It was
53:15
instinct. People got so mad. Peter posted me I had death threats in
53:19
my way because he well because because like snake bit you and out of reaction,
53:24
you took it off of you. It was don't use animals as props,
53:29
And I get it, like and I think that I agree. I
53:32
think I feel a little guilty now, but it was just it was I
53:36
don't know, it all happened so fast. But yeah, I do feel
53:39
bad for grabbing it too. I do feel bad, but from your team,
53:50
no, But yeah, that was a moment, hey man, And
53:54
you are being successful in the most craziest times, like the cancel culture.
54:01
Everybody's right, everybody's sensitive. I know, it's I think that's the thing
54:07
that makes me overthink everything I do or say, because I'm like, could I could cancel for that? And I say crazy things, but I don't
54:12
say anything that would give me canceled. You do say some crazy stuff though,
54:15
yeah, yeah, I'm so scared for like five years. Yeah,
54:19
this interview with resurfacing, but I don't think we said anything too crazy and
54:22
it used to be worse. Can I hear it? Yeah? Okay,
54:27
they'll be like made, Why do you say that? Anyway? Back to
54:29
my bucket list, I want to say that's real quick. I want to do rock and Rio one day. That's one of my dreams. I want
54:34
to headline it song with John Mayor and Grammy's of course, but that's I
54:39
don't know. I'm not too focused on that, but I feel like it'll
54:42
come. And then definitely movies or something, but I'm not I don't really
54:45
care about the is it egot thing? Yeah? Yeah, yeah, I
54:50
don't. I'm not like, no, I don't chase awards. I feel
54:52
like, but if that ever happens, I will be happy. And Elks and John just got his easyeah. I know that you're a huge Eli and
55:00
John fan, and he used to babysit you as well, so that's crazy.
55:06
It's good I called him and I congratulated him. Yeah, man, and just knowing him for years and and and his words not mine, him
55:15
being in a posuit way. He changed your diapers like he know you.
55:20
Oh yes, that's gotta be crazy, man. So when he got the
55:23
E got you hit him up and was like, what do you say?
55:25
Is it? Is it? What do you say? Yeah? Now watch
55:31
somebody here and watch the viral. John changed my diapers or somebody piece be
55:43
like we searched it. She was lying, Yeah, you can't. You
55:46
can't do right by social Yeah. But that's kind of why I love making
55:50
people mad on Twitter because it's like people really just are mad this girl that
55:53
I made up some story that I grew up in this town and I'm a
55:57
Jewish, I came from a Jewish rich family, and I'm like, I'm
56:00
not even Jewish. Hold on, and my family didn't grow up in this town, like you're not. Was that you on his burner account? And
56:09
you can't put all those fires out? So don't even chase. I know
56:14
sometimes I do if I don't care. But I realized, like, stop mating, because I used to get mad and I used to just yellow people
56:19
online. But I feel like every artist kind of has to go through that
56:22
phase of like doing that to just realize it's not what to do, not
56:25
worth it. Yeah, really, have you made anyone that you that's in
56:30
the business that was like a butthole? Like, man, I wish I
56:32
didn't meet that person, and I want to ask who it was, But
56:36
you've had that experience, yes, for sure. I think the worst thing
56:38
is I meet people and then my team will tell me, oh, when
56:40
you first got signed, they would they were talking about you, Like there's
56:45
I met a girl the other day. She's in the business. She's a
56:47
successful manager. I guess I don't even know. But when I first got
56:52
signed, I met her. I ran into her in Paris and she came up to me and introduce herself and she was so sweet and nice and like
56:59
a fan. And somebody told me when you first got shined signed, she
57:02
was like just talking about me. So it's like that's kind of the worst
57:06
part. And the thing is team coming to tell you neative team to tell
57:12
me not to say that. I think they just want me to see the
57:17
realness of people. I think another thing, who was it? I'm not
57:22
going to tell you that. But one thing that I've gone through this is a big trend in my career. I have a lot of beef with like
57:29
older men in the industry. I think as a young woman when I was
57:31
like seventeen, I'm telling too much of my business. They're about to yell
57:37
at me. You're good at this anyway. Just like when I first started,
57:45
I would just get in fights with older men about things that I didn't
57:50
really know, like when I had to choose my first bit like lawyer the
57:52
Layer that I didn't go with, like cuss me out, and it's like,
57:55
I'm seventeen years old, I don't even know what this stuff really means,
57:58
and you're yelling at me. So I think that that's kind of been
58:00
the hardest thing, is just staying strong as a young woman and just knowing
58:05
that there's a lot of emotions and a lot of crazy men. So I
58:08
think that just being able to just shut that off and not get bothered by
58:14
it anyway. I don't even know what got me into that question, but answer, I enjoyed it though, Man, Well, thank you for coming
58:22
into the neighborhood. You're crazy. I'm not telling you why not because it
58:27
was more than one. Huh. There's a few people artist wise that you
58:30
failed the funky vibe from. Give me like ten seconds to think about it.
58:37
I'm not going to tell you about No, I'll tell you. I'm
58:43
not going to tell you I don't have any I don't think I even have
58:45
anybody though. Honestly, the artists that have the biggest attitude are the ones
58:47
that aren't successful, or you can tell they're not as successful as they want
58:52
to be. I think that's I think they're just angry about their own lives.
58:53
You fight no, my brother, You just fight your brother in that
58:59
same way. Really, we had like an angry household because my dad and
59:04
my brother have like they used to get so angry. And I think that
59:07
me being like the only little girl in the house, we would always fight.
59:10
Let me stop telling stories all day long. Hey, what does your
59:15
brother do for living? You say he just wants to be a chef.
59:19
He's younger than me, He's still in Indiana. I'm trying to get him
59:22
to come out here so bad. I have so many restaurants that always ask about him. But I think that I gotta just kind of force him to
59:28
do it. Oh, man, and you're twenty three. How old is he twenty one? Oh wow, and he's he's already cooking and everything.
59:35
He's good too. He makes really good food. And it's all weird stuff.
59:37
It's not just like we'll bring him out. I'm trying to get him
59:42
too, we'll call him okay. Mean, I would love to know if
59:45
you have a mount rushmore of R and B singers, because there's always like,
59:49
oh, the top five rappers or whatever. But got about R and
59:51
B, Jazz and Sullivan, ye ba Brandy. Who else I think I
59:57
need? In scissor, I think, wait that say says already because we
1:00:00
have the singers, but says it's so cool and like, you know,
1:00:04
that's a good mix. Also, if you do you believe in love languages?
1:00:08
Oh yes, what's your love language? I'm so crazy. I think
1:00:13
quality time and physical touch and acts of service. I don't like gifts because
1:00:19
I'm so awkward and I hate opening gifts in front of people because it's like,
1:00:22
eh so not receiving gifts. And then my giving love language is acts
1:00:25
of service, physical touch and yeah wise words was Events Staples that said when
1:00:35
people give you gifts, they give you gifts that they want something or they
1:00:38
just want to see you open the gift so they can feel satisfied. I
1:00:42
think sometimes it's a selfishness about gifts, like I don't need your gifts.
1:00:46
Show me that you'll go walk my dogs for me or something like that.
1:00:50
Do you have dogs? No, I'm just saying if I did, So,
1:00:54
what if somebody gives you a dog and then they don't have to yes,
1:01:01
Like, don't just assume I can take care of a dog and then
1:01:04
leave me with it, and I have to. If I can't take care
1:01:06
of I got to get rid of it on my own. Nobody's done that. But sometimes I see videos where people give you get rid of it.
1:01:12
I'm not saying get rid of it on my own, but like I have
1:01:14
to deal with Peter's gonna write that. No, I don't know. So
1:01:22
you're not looking for someone to walk your dogs because you don't have dogs.
1:01:27
No, But if I did, I would want a man that if I
1:01:30
needed him to like go to my house and grab my dogs and walk my
1:01:32
dogs from me here. Okay, So you just said okay, I can
1:01:36
say somebody that will go out and put like pro paane in my spaceship to
1:01:39
right, Yeah, because I do have a spaceship. Okay, yeah,
1:01:43
they got some dogs in it. Yes, I heard that. Mate. Have you been to the Rock Nation Brunch? I know you signed to rock
1:01:49
Nation. I have been to the brunch a few times. Any questions I
1:01:55
have, I have a few. You know, I've never been to the
1:01:59
brunch. I don't think, well, I've never been invited to to You've
1:02:02
never been to the brunch. I've never been to the brunch. And I
1:02:06
remember lam A. She was she couldn't believe it, and she was like
1:02:09
whoa. She said, there was so many much less famous people than you
1:02:14
and there and I was like, I don't know how to take that either, but I guess, yeah, what do y'all do at the Rock Nation
1:02:21
brunch? First of all, so it takes an hour to get in there
1:02:23
because you have to meet at a shuttle and then you get shuttled to a
1:02:25
place and then get another shuttle. Like it's like, I don't mind doing
1:02:29
that, Okay, Okay, Well after that all, really you just kind
1:02:34
of drink and eat and walk around and talk. So you do eat the
1:02:37
brunch because other people have talked to you. They said they don't even eat. I eat. You will never catch me not eating there. Especially they
1:02:44
have like those cheese you know when they make the pasta in the giant cheese thing and it's like melted. It's like, why would you not want to
1:02:50
eat that? So and everybody's there, huh. It is one of those
1:02:53
places where it's like the smallest person even though except for me, but like
1:02:59
the least known people in the world are still like some of the most famous
1:03:01
people in the world, you know what I mean. So you kind of
1:03:04
look around like every single person that's just somebody, but everybody's kind of just
1:03:08
waiting for Beyonce to get there the whole time. Really, yeah, Beyonce
1:03:12
and Rihanna, they always show up like at the last second. So I
1:03:14
think a lot of people just kind of wait around that. Did anybody did
1:03:17
you go to last year? Was anyone asking where's Big Boy? Everybody?
1:03:23
And I was just like, I don't know, it's so sad. Oh
1:03:28
man, maybe this year is my year. I think it is. Maybe
1:03:30
they're not having the Bunches year. I don't think though, of course, are you serious? Yeah, I just found out yesterday, so it may
1:03:37
be my year. It is your year. Maybe you having the brunch.
1:03:43
Are they telling me I feel like Rock Nation's gonna kill me? Or they I don't think they're having the brunches year though, or they knew you were
1:03:47
coming here and they said, oh, big boy, bring us a That's
1:03:55
like the girl the story we did today where the girl didn't invite her big
1:03:59
friends and because she was overweight she couldn't. She didn't invite her overweight friends.
1:04:05
Yeah, man, so that us that's me. That's one of those.
1:04:11
Yeah. Do you know I used to weigh over five hundred pounds?
1:04:13
Really five hundred pounds? Yep? How did you lose it? All? I had gas with white pasts like twenty years ago, and then now I
1:04:19
just eat right? What even is that gas? Like the stomach thing where
1:04:26
they kind of remove some of your stomach and so I did that, and
1:04:29
now it was just like, so your stomach shrunk and then you did you eat less or something? Yeah? And I can eat now. I can
1:04:33
eat now, And then I did. Is that a picture here right there
1:04:36
and right there? Yeah? Are you serious? Yeah? Jay Z's in
1:04:40
the middle of you're getting there. I didn't see. Yeah, that's jay
1:04:45
Z in the middle. Yeah. Well, Congress. That's crazy. Is
1:04:48
it just easier? Like what's the best part? You know what? I
1:04:51
still like, I got gas with white pasts twenty years ago. I still
1:04:56
made up our walk even today, walking to the restaurant, I walked by
1:05:00
and I look at my reflection off the glass. I can't. I still
1:05:03
can't believe that I'm not five hundred pounds. Really, and the smallest things
1:05:09
that you probably don't even think about, not that I was like tripping about
1:05:13
it, but when I flew I had to have a seatbelt extension. The
1:05:16
trade table never came down in front of me. I would buy both seats
1:05:19
because why am I gonna punish you for being? Yeah, but not knowing?
1:05:25
Do you know what I noticed towards the not the end, but I
1:05:29
started sitting up sleeping a lot, really, you know, And there was
1:05:31
no way at five hundred pounds I could have still been alive today. Oh
1:05:36
seriously, no way in the world. Like everything would have came, Everything
1:05:41
would have came. And that's why they called me big boy. Because some
1:05:43
people now they'll say why that yep, yeah, and my wife definitely like,
1:05:47
oh that's not what the reason why to call him big one? Yeah?
1:05:50
She got a constantly worried he weighed five hundred pounds the other thing,
1:06:00
and she's like he lost weight. I was waiting no more and didn't.
1:06:04
Yeah, yeah, definitely not an pearna. How do you feel about like
1:06:08
o zimpick and all these weight loss things people are doing now, whatever someone
1:06:11
does for them, then, you know, because I got the most extreme
1:06:15
gastric bypass that you can get, you don't anymore, so, not the
1:06:19
one that I do. They don't even do that procedure and you have to
1:06:21
be like dire straits for them to do that procedure for you. But I
1:06:26
think that you know, for one, I don't know about the ozimpic stuff,
1:06:29
you know sometimes because I've seen a lot of products come and then years
1:06:33
later it's like if you took such and such and this is you know,
1:06:36
you could be part of a class action lossuit. So I don't know,
1:06:41
but people are, they're next to it. And I don't fuck people like,
1:06:44
oh you need to lose it to NATURALID because that wasn't me either,
1:06:46
you know what I'm saying. So whatever you do to make yourself healthy or
1:06:51
you know, and do it, do it, you know, as long
1:06:55
as you're not hurting yourself and my thing also what my gastr bypass is.
1:07:00
I made sure I read up on it, but then after I realized once
1:07:05
I was living it how much, I didn't know how long did it take
1:07:10
you to lose all the weight when you're working now or was it just now?
1:07:14
Because I had I had a lot of complications, you know. So
1:07:18
I would say that from five hundred pounds, I was five hundred and eleven
1:07:23
pounds on my surgery date, so I must have been over five fifty because
1:07:26
I lost weight to get the surgery. So I would say I lost probably
1:07:30
the first two hundred pounds, well, I lost it probably in like four
1:07:34
days. What yep, the first two hundred pounds I lost on like four
1:07:39
days. And then from there it's just maybe he would have had her.
1:07:46
You can't laugh a little bit. It started to come off quickly, twenty
1:07:53
Like even before I left the hospital. I think I was like thirty pounds
1:07:56
down and like no no bullets, like four days because I was only in
1:07:59
Georgia for like four days post surgery, So I lost like thirty pounds then,
1:08:03
yeah, and then but it was unhealthy weight. It was like you
1:08:06
know, my my bones men and everything. I wasn't holding anything. But
1:08:12
but now I'm good. I'm good. Now you know you ever had any
1:08:15
weight issues? No? Yeah, well take it as a blessing. I
1:08:19
mean, can you get the out of here? When you're looking and mirror,
1:08:28
do you see a beautiful girl? I do, but I have,
1:08:30
we all have. Our things would change? Really, do you have any
1:08:33
other challenge? Like everything else you do we don't know about. So you
1:08:38
do play piano leader? So I was a flyer. They tore I like
1:08:44
tore my rotator cuff because they dropped me. But it wasn't It was like
1:08:47
very like we were not safe. We were doing college. So is your
1:08:53
rotator cuff? Did it held up something? I noticed you slouched to this
1:08:58
side? Oh? Really? Yeah, you're so rude. What No,
1:09:02
No, I'm just saying because like even when you when you sing, I
1:09:05
can tell like yeah, like you, I can't tell you're serious or not.
1:09:10
No, I'm saying because I have a torn rotator cuff from what fake
1:09:15
fake is working out. So this one is torn torn and this one is
1:09:21
a little bit not as bad. But I can tell the favorite that have
1:09:26
you ever noticed with comedians they'll hold the mic and look at Dave Chappelle,
1:09:30
look at Joe Rogan, guys that hold the mic their shoulder. That that
1:09:34
Mike's shoulder is up just a little bit interesting. Yeah, and I know
1:09:39
you keep trying to catch it, but you can't. Like it's Sam,
1:09:41
I'm not Yeah you are. I'm just playing look at hey man every time
1:09:50
now she and I'm just joking. So don't take this out of here with
1:09:54
you know what I'm saying, don't be at the house or looking in your
1:09:57
mirror. But you like one of those people that can just I know a
1:10:01
few people like you, and you can just go straight into a lie and
1:10:03
just have people still not lie jokes. Well you're it's a lie to tell
1:10:10
a joke because liars lie jokes. Joke. Okay, so it's a joke.
1:10:15
But you're one of those people that can. Nobody knows, well,
1:10:18
at least for me at this point, I don't know whether you're telling the
1:10:21
truth or lie or joking whatever. Man, Okay, get out of here
1:10:28
anyway. Yeah, they don't pick up that pie our dog? No,
1:10:34
that was an I know I'm going to be did they even have a dog,
1:10:44
Yeah, we have a dog. But you don't write, but you get I did get a dog and send it home to Indiana. But okay,
1:10:51
here, stop talking to you. Right, So you had a dog
1:11:00
and you sent it home to Indiana because your schedule got busy. Listen,
1:11:06
And it was during COVID one day, one night, I was at the
1:11:09
studio. I was depressed. I wanted dog, so I got one.
1:11:11
Had it for like six months. I lived downtown. She hated it.
1:11:15
At one point I got so busy I could not take care of her anymore. So I flew home to Indiana with her. Now she lives in the
1:11:20
country with my mom my dad. So she's good. She's happy. I
1:11:25
do not I think she would be so mad and getting out downtown and living
1:11:28
a life for like prostitution. And she saw it all and yeah, it's
1:11:34
a hard it is, especially for dogs as needles all over the ground,
1:11:38
Like seriously, it's bad. Okay, Now she goes outside. But do
1:11:43
you like dogs? I love dogs? Do what other animals? All animals?
1:11:45
I'm an animal lover. Okay. If a dog in a pie cost
1:11:50
had a race, which one do you think would win? A dog?
1:11:53
And what if a dog and a pie cost Just say what now? If
1:11:57
a dog in a pie cost had a race in a pie cost. If
1:12:00
a dog and a pie cast, what's that? What a pie cast?
1:12:03
About eight bucks? Like a joke? What's that? Andre? What's that
1:12:13
comedian that does the show where that he just confuses the guest? Oh wait,
1:12:17
the one that I watched that you won't watch with me? One?
1:12:23
Yes, I feel like I'm on his show right now. Don't do that
1:12:26
because then my wife gonna get me she flies off, the fall from the
1:12:29
ceiling or something. Stop. Okay, So you love dogs? Yes,
1:12:39
alrighty? What about horses? I grew up with a horse horses behind my
1:12:45
house. So if you're driving down the street and you see a horse to
1:12:49
your right and a dog to your left. You drive down the street,
1:12:53
you see a horse to your right a dog to your left, you had
1:12:59
to which one? What would you hit first? If you would probably survive?
1:13:04
Right? So, if you saw a horse to your right, how
1:13:08
fast dog to your left? This is the real question. How fast am
1:13:11
I going? Let's say you're going let's say thirty miles per hour? If
1:13:15
you see a dog to your horse to your just trying to give me canceled
1:13:18
dog to your left? What do you hit first? I think if I
1:13:21
had to hit one, I think the smartest option would be to hit I
1:13:28
hate this right, I'm just asking if I had horse? Is to know
1:13:33
what I'm saying. If there was a horse to your right, Oh,
1:13:36
I hit none of them because there's nothing in front of me. No,
1:13:39
no, no, I'm saying you had to. Can you tell me the
1:13:43
answer? No, because they don't know that. I'm just asking you, if there is a horse to your right, dog to your left, which
1:13:50
one would you hit first? Like? You you shwivel. You gotta control
1:13:55
which, dude, so I have to hit one? Do you like? What do you hit first? No? He's laughingly thinking he would hit Yeah,
1:14:04
what would you hit? For real? If there was a dog,
1:14:10
If there was a horse to your right, a dog to your left,
1:14:13
I would say, I want to tell you, okay, alright, is
1:14:16
this a riddle? Like is there a right answer? Is there is a
1:14:19
right answer? Is there an answer that's gonna make me feel like an idiot?
1:14:25
You guys, I don't know what the answer is. I mean if
1:14:29
okay, So I'll ask you, if there's a dog to your left, horse to your right, what do you hit first? But why would you
1:14:35
hit one? Why would you if you're if there's on the sides of it.
1:14:39
As a human being, I would hit the brakes first. Your song.
1:14:44
This is seriously annoying. I've heard that before. Are you think the
1:14:49
horse? Because I was going to hit the horse? Because I was going
1:14:54
to hit the horse because it's bigger and it's not going to die thirty miles
1:14:56
for hours. Jackson called me the R word when you could you know what
1:15:00
I'm saying. Thank you for coming much pleasure to thank you all right now

There's another in case you missed the moment with us. There's a couple
1:15:29
who went to Las Vegas over the weekend and they are now famous for having
1:15:32
sex in their room. Man, when your windows not tinted and you don't
1:15:36
have your blinds closed to your room, what happened? So there was a
1:15:40
Travis Scott concert going down at this I guess venue. I think it was
1:15:44
an outdoor venue, and you know you got the buildings next to it. So one of the buildings next it had a room right there with the windows
1:15:50
completely opened, and this couple was on their bed smashing having sex right there
1:15:55
for everybody to see. Wow, I trip out to When you go to
1:15:58
like Las Vegas or something and you see those, you're like, damn,
1:16:00
I wonder if anybody can see end. Yeah, man, you know what I mean. Sometimes you walk towards her to open the blinds, linking and
1:16:05
oh yeah, man. I remember one time I went to the blinds like
1:16:08
that. Yeah yeah, And it was bad man, somebody. So I
1:16:11
was in jail for two days. And thank you for listening. It is
