Gordon Bird here with Beyond the News. This is Alzheimer's and Brain Awareness Month

0:04

and Hillsboro County Adult Day Services and the Alzheimer's Association are taking the brain Bus

0:10

to the county's Adult Day Services locations during the month of June. Three of

0:15

those events are still going to be taking place. They're going to be there

0:19

on Thursdays between one and four pm. Will go over the locations. In

0:22

a moment. We have Angie Delidovasquez with Hillsborough County Adult Day Services to talk

0:28

with us about it. ANGI welcome in. Thank you, Thank you mister

0:31

Gordon, and thank you to all your audience out there. First of all,

0:36

before we get into what's happening with the brain bus, talk to us

0:41

about Adult Day Services. It's something that I think if you have, if

0:47

you are a caregiver and you have a relative that you're taking care of,

0:52

that's a very important service for those people who live in Hillsborough County. That's

0:58

correct. Adult Day Service is at Hillsborough County. It's different centers in Hillsborough

1:03

County where we can take care your loved ones sixty years and older Monday to

1:11

Friday from eight am to five pm, and we will give them different activity,

1:17

holistic activities to maintain the citizens and active. And it's kind of it's

1:23

not maybe technically respect care, but it is certainly care that gives a respite

1:27

to caregivers who need to do errands or go and work during the day.

1:34

That's correct. It gives them a give the caregiver that opportunity to do different

1:40

business that they have, and then we will take care of their loved ones.

1:44

Now this event then is happening at the adult Day Services centers, So

1:49

your audience is those caregivers and probably you've picked the perfect place to reach them,

1:57

and that is with something called the brain Bus, and you're partnering with

2:01

the Alzheimer's Association on that, and tell us what's going to be going on

2:07

there. I understand that you're going to have experts to answer questions and offer

2:14

information to caregivers, So tell us about that. That's correct. Hillsborough County

2:19

Adult Day Service have partners with the Alzheimer Association to provide information and resources of

2:25

Alzheimer and the mania to the caregivers in recognition of the Alzheimer and Brain Awareness

2:34

Month. The Alzheimer Association brain Bus will visit or for sight in Hillsborough County

2:42

in every adult day service location for the month of June. The public is

2:47

encouraged to attend and receive that information that the Alzheimer's Association will give you,

2:54

and some of them will be the tend warning of sign of alzheimer, the

3:00

talent health habits for brain and steps to keep their actually diagnostic on check all

3:08

the time. And the first one of this week it will be on June

3:13

thirteenth at Plant City and that is at the Adult day Care Center which is

3:19

on Waller Street in Plant City. And then you have a week from Thursday

3:23

the twentieth at the Bloomingdale Adult Day Center on Canoga Park Drive in Brandon,

3:28

and on the twenty seventh at the Wai Mama Adult Day Center on Lagoon Shore

3:32

Boulevard in Waimma. And this is again what you do there every week with

3:39

adult day Services and is a vital service to the community. And you're going

3:45

to be providing a lot of general information. Now they're not going to be diagnosing anything on the brain bus. You're not going to take a family member

3:53

on there and the doctor's going to say, yes, there is dementia,

3:55

Yes, there's Alzheimer's. This is general information, right, That's correct,

4:00

it's general information. The brain bus will help to raise awareness of the alzheimer

4:08

and dementia and the information would be about detection, how to early diagnostic and

4:15

brain held and risks to reduce the Oldzheimer and dementia to our loved ones.

4:23

Well, I'm sure that the service provided by Hillsborough Adult Day Services is valuable

4:29

to caregivers who are dealing with the loved one, particularly one who is up

4:33

in years and need this little bit of respite so they can do the other

4:40

tasks required of a household. And so I'm sure they appreciate it, and

4:44

I'm sure a lot of other counties wish that they had that level of service

4:47

as well. So many thanks and appreciation to you for what your agency does.
