with honest and authentic people. The

that it will always be kept PG, so
0:54
please be mindful around little ears. Here
0:56
we go. Hello, Jade. Hello, Sophie and
0:59
all our bumpies listening. How are you this
1:01
week? I
1:06
am fantastic and I'm just going
1:08
to say controversial opinion. But
1:11
Easter shits all over
1:13
Christmas. Yeah. Mmm.
1:16
Mmm. I just think
1:18
Christmas is given this fanfare,
1:21
this pedestal, but
1:23
there's so much stress around it.
1:25
Mmm. Depending on work, and
1:28
I know not everyone has the Easter
1:30
long weekend off either, but it's four
1:32
solid days. There's no stress in
1:34
the lead up to it. It's much
1:36
more affordable because, you know, all
1:39
anyone's expecting is a few choccy
1:41
eggs. I
1:43
just, I think leading up to Christmas in so
1:45
many industries that you work in, people act
1:47
like if you don't get in on
1:49
a deadline before Christmas, the entire world
1:51
is going to implode. There's none of
1:53
that with Easter. Where we
1:55
are, we get to send our kids
1:58
back to school today. those
2:00
Victorians and other people who are on
2:02
school holidays. You know what I mean?
2:04
Like I feel like Christmas, you've then
2:06
got like a freaking 16 weeks
2:08
or something a whole day ahead of
2:11
you. I'm petitioning for Easter to be
2:13
the top holiday of the year. And
2:15
if you listened to our mental load
2:18
episode last week, I've passed the buck
2:20
on all Easter organization. So I even
2:22
got to sit back on that. So
2:25
I'm in a good place. How are
2:27
you? How was your Easter? Absolutely
2:30
stunning. I'm glad that you love that.
2:32
And look, I have had a bloody,
2:36
it's been the time of my life. What can
2:38
I say? I have just been nonstop
2:41
having fun and it has been
2:43
such a great time. We
2:45
went to Blues Fest. So the first day
2:48
I went with Harry and we just
2:50
had a fun date night. Mum and
2:52
dad had the kids then, cause
2:54
it was over the road. So, you know, you don't have
2:56
to go too far. And then
2:58
the second day I took Yumi
3:01
and her best friend Milo and
3:03
they had an absolute ball, spent
3:05
hours just dancing and playing and
3:07
eating. And then yesterday
3:10
I went back with my friends
3:12
and had another great time. I
3:14
danced with an older man, like
3:16
as in a grandpa to Jimmy
3:18
Barnes. He absolutely loved
3:20
it. I absolutely loved
3:22
it. I met Bumpy, so many
3:24
Bumpy. I'm loving it. Bumpy
3:26
is everywhere and I'm absolutely loving it. The
3:29
confidence is building because they do come up
3:31
and they say, you said we can say
3:33
hi. And I said, I know. And I'm
3:35
so glad. Absolutely come say hi. But the
3:38
best part about it, most
3:40
of the times that people saw me,
3:42
I was at the water fountain, filling
3:44
up my water, not actually like the
3:47
beer stop or the self-sestation.
3:49
So I kind of look like I
3:51
was sitting a good girl. Well,
3:54
I mean, look at our age. If you're going to
3:56
attend a festival three days in
3:58
a weekend, you've got to be responsible. and
4:00
keep hydrated. So how bloody good are
4:03
you tired because I've been tired watching
4:05
you so I've done 50,000 steps so
4:07
I got my steps in and it
4:09
has been my feet are so so
4:12
sore but I really loved it because
4:14
I didn't overthink this time I was
4:16
like I'm not gonna go out and
4:18
get prepared and buy a new outfit
4:21
or anything and funnily enough it was
4:23
because of this episode we kind of
4:25
just thought what do I have in
4:28
my closet. We talked about shopping your
4:30
wardrobe. Yeah let's just use that. So
4:32
I just pulled pieces that I had
4:34
out had boots from last year that
4:36
I used for Blues Fest and
4:38
it was really really fun. So now
4:40
tell me top tips on taking your
4:42
child to a festival. I feel like
4:45
we hear about travel with kids but
4:47
they're still listeners I'm sure who want
4:49
to attend festivals and maybe want to
4:51
take their kids with them. What are
4:53
your top tips? The top tips are
4:55
you can head to my Instagram because
4:57
Yumi gave a solid review on how she
5:01
what she thought of Blues
5:03
Fest as she was walking out
5:05
that night but it was honestly
5:08
not a crowded crazy place it
5:10
was spaced out they had a
5:12
kids club with so many different
5:14
activities that were turning around the
5:17
clock it was face painting there
5:19
was room to move it wasn't like
5:21
oh I'm gonna get overwhelmed so many
5:24
parents had buggies where they can pop
5:26
their kids in and cut them around
5:28
if they were getting tired they have
5:30
little wristbands so you know if they did
5:32
get lost they just have to point to someone
5:34
and they call their mum everything
5:36
just worked out really really well.
5:39
So I highly highly recommend Blues
5:41
Fest I haven't taken my kids
5:43
to Splendour not that it's happening
5:45
this year unfortunately but if anyone
5:48
has taken their kids to a festival
5:50
definitely let us know. I took Poppy
5:52
to Splendour when she was about six
5:54
months old and during the day was
5:57
excellent but just as the sun started
5:59
to rise. to set, you could kind
6:01
of see people kind of
6:03
go to another level and all of a sudden
6:05
they're coming up to her in the carrier trying
6:08
to touch her being like oh my god and
6:10
I was like this is my cue to leave,
6:12
this is my cue to get the children out
6:14
of here. During daylight hours at that festival was
6:16
fine but once it was after dark
6:18
I was like no way too many
6:20
people have lost all boundaries and inhibitions
6:23
and my baby is out of here.
6:25
I think the other good thing
6:27
about this festival is quite family-friendly
6:29
in the way that everyone's dressed
6:31
quite respectfully like it's a nice
6:33
you know you don't have butt
6:35
cheeks hanging out like you do at Splendour
6:37
and other festivals. We go for gold
6:40
but you might try and take it
6:42
on and that's just you know something
6:44
you don't really need to be dealing
6:46
with. Exactly, absolutely. So
6:48
good. Now I have another recommendation and I've
6:50
been pretty open about
6:52
being a anti-craft mum
6:56
and I had to get by last
6:58
week my first hot glue gun
7:00
because my kids participated in their
7:02
first Easter Bonnet parade which
7:05
was the cutest, like leading up to it I
7:07
was like this is such an effort because you
7:09
have to make the heart. It
7:11
was the cutest school event ever. I
7:13
loved it. I sat there with tears
7:16
in my eyes just being that embarrassing
7:18
mum. Like they were doing the bare
7:20
minimum and I was just so
7:22
freaking proud that they were even up
7:25
there. But can I tell
7:27
you that glue gun has come in handy
7:29
already this week. I put it away after
7:31
the Easter bonnets were made and I said
7:33
to Nick, remind me where I've put
7:35
that away because I'm not going to need it until
7:37
next year when we have to make the Easter bonnets
7:39
again. My niece came up to
7:42
me, her gem had fallen off her dress. And
7:44
normally I'd have had to be like, oh, just
7:46
keep wearing the dresses. No gem. I'm no good.
7:49
Like I'm not good at sewing. I'm not good
7:51
at any of that stuff. I whipped out
7:53
my hot glue gun. I was gluing
7:55
this on. I was fixing that up.
7:57
I'm just... watch
7:59
this. I might be about to become
8:01
a craft mom, I don't think so, but I am
8:03
whipping out my hot glue gun last run. I
8:06
wonder what else you can use with a hot glue gun. What can a
8:08
craft come about? I don't know, but come back to me and I'll find
8:10
it. All right. Everything. Everything.
8:14
Some foreheads if anyone's falling down
8:16
the stairs. What a time
8:18
to be alive. Now, I have
8:20
a bit of a story. Yumi,
8:22
for her birthday, got this
8:24
creepy little reborn doll. It's
8:27
your family. Your family goes
8:29
in circles and cycles. Yeah. Yeah.
8:33
The older girls had their turn. Their reborn
8:35
kind of looked like Donald Trump. It was
8:37
a little bit creepy. Like, imagine Donald Trump
8:39
in a baby form. It was weird. Anyway,
8:42
this one steps it up a
8:45
notch. It's more silicon-based and looks
8:47
really, really childlike, but creepy.
8:50
Like, the hands alone and it's just a little bit
8:52
odd. Anyway, when we were
8:54
coming back from Melbourne last week, I
8:56
was getting on the plane and Yumi was next
8:59
to me. And the guy's like, oh, have you
9:01
ever used an infant seatbelt before? And I'm like,
9:04
no, Yumi's five. And he's
9:06
like, no, why not the little one? And
9:08
I looked in my arms and he was
9:11
talking about the frickin' reborn doll. I said,
9:13
oh, no, that's actually a doll. She
9:16
does not need an infant seatbelt. Okay,
9:19
from there, we've taken her to the
9:21
supermarket today. People are just
9:23
like, they're triple taking going one,
9:26
one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. Yeah, because
9:28
your doll was face down in the... It
9:31
was face down in the shopping trolley. I'm
9:33
picking it up and pissing it because
9:35
it's like making...it's taking up too much
9:37
room. But everyone is rattled. So
9:39
I'm just...look, it's a little bit of like...
9:41
Because you want to keep people on their
9:43
toes. Yeah. You know, people are
9:45
going to like call child services on me or something
9:48
and I'll be like, guys, it's not real. It's
9:50
not real. Jay sent me a picture from
9:52
Woolies today and I know it's a doll
9:54
and I'm still concerned for the welfare. It
9:57
is. It's really quite creepy. Rude
9:59
or family? Fabulous. Yeah, rude or
10:02
fabulous. I'm gonna say rudely fabulous. Rude
10:04
for the bystander, fabulous for you. But
10:07
let's get into today's episode because this
10:09
one was... Oh, I'm sorry. Oh, yeah,
10:11
go. Go, doll. I've got
10:13
a mum hack. I've got a school holiday mum
10:15
hack. And are you ready for this one? You'll
10:17
like this plug. I took
10:19
my kids to the movies today and I
10:21
didn't want to watch what they were watching.
10:23
So I whipped out my Kindle and popped
10:26
it on night mode and read it and
10:28
read it and read it.
10:30
Also, if you're at home and your
10:32
kids, you know, want to watch a movie,
10:35
sit down with them, pretend you're watching without
10:37
the Kindle. Can you? They
10:39
think you're bonding, you're not, you're reading
10:41
your Kindle. One up on
10:43
that. I popped the
10:45
podcast in beyond the bump because I was listening to
10:47
this episode. And I was
10:50
like, you could listen to Beyond the
10:52
Bump while you're in the
10:54
movies. If you want to. Genius.
10:58
Fucking fabulous. We love
11:00
it. Obviously, pick Beyond the Bump over
11:02
the Kindle. But if you're already up today, we
11:04
give you permission to read the Kindle. But
11:06
speaking of, let's get into today's episode.
11:08
Yeah. This was so much
11:11
fun. We spoke to Liv Brown
11:13
from Rattle Style. We've had many
11:15
people asking us to do an
11:17
episode on postpartum and
11:19
mum's style for quite a while. Obviously,
11:21
this is an area of interest of
11:23
Jade and I, but it was so
11:25
good to speak to professionals. And even
11:27
though I felt like I was quite
11:29
into fashion, since chatting to Liv, the
11:31
amount of things I've actually
11:33
put into place since listening
11:35
to this, those really like practical tips,
11:38
which we'll let you listen to. But
11:40
I absolutely love this. I felt
11:42
like there was great discussions about,
11:44
I guess, just general fashion, but
11:46
also those really handy practical tips too.
11:49
This episode is actually really, really fun
11:51
and it got me excited to do
11:53
more. I'm creating a new Pinterest account
11:55
so I can, you know, pin things
11:58
that I like. also
12:00
and I won't give it all away but
12:02
we got to have like choose our three
12:04
style words which explains on how to do
12:07
and just so many fun tips so
12:10
we really really really really
12:12
hope you enjoy. Enjoy.
12:14
Hello Liv and welcome to Beyond The
12:16
Bump podcast. Before we get started can you
12:19
please tell us a little bit about yourself
12:21
and your family? Yes hello thank you for
12:23
having me. I am Liv,
12:25
I'm a festival stylist for Mums and I'm
12:27
the founder of Rattle Style. I
12:29
have a beautiful little pubba
12:31
boy, Gussie, who's two and a half
12:33
and I'm about to pop with my
12:35
second boy. I live in Melbourne and
12:37
yes. And tell us how
12:40
did Rattle Style start? Was it
12:43
because even you who is a personal
12:46
stylist struggled with pregnancy and postpartum please
12:48
tell me that is why yes or
12:50
was there another
12:53
reason? That is why I
12:55
feel like I got pregnant with Gus and
12:57
I was kind of the first out of
12:59
my friendship group to have a baby and
13:01
I feel like I kind of went into
13:03
it quite naive like I had Gussie and
13:05
I just wasn't prepared for the identity shift
13:07
that was postpartum and being a mum. I
13:09
just kind of thought you have a baby
13:11
you need to bring them to chatty
13:13
you take them shopping and like you know I just
13:16
wasn't really prepared and as much
13:18
as I was like into fashion I worked
13:20
in fashion loved it felt like I knew
13:22
my personal style. I looked back on what
13:24
I was wearing those 30 months and I'm
13:26
like who was that and I think I
13:28
just didn't like know how to
13:31
lean into the shift and lean into the
13:33
new me so yeah I realised I had
13:35
a whole wardrobe full of like
13:38
work clothes going out clothes and so
13:40
I had forgotten how to dress so
13:42
that's how it all kind of came.
13:44
Well Liv you're not the only one
13:46
because when we put a message out
13:48
on Instagram about having a stylist talk
13:50
about what to wear how to feel
13:52
comfortable pregnant and beyond it was
13:55
absolutely the inbox was
13:58
filled with questions. So
14:00
I feel like we're going to be a
14:02
bit of like a Dolly Doctor style episode.
14:04
Yeah, I'm so excited. Obviously, this is an
14:07
area that Jade and I love, but it's
14:09
so fun to speak to a professional. I
14:12
feel like each time, and it
14:14
surprised me every time, you think you're
14:16
getting towards the end of your pregnancy
14:18
and you go, oh, I
14:20
can't wait to wear my wardrobe again. Once
14:22
this baby comes out, I'm going to wear
14:25
my wardrobe. And then all of a sudden,
14:27
you're postpartum and you think, I'm
14:29
more stuck now on what to
14:31
wear than when I was pregnant.
14:34
And I think a lot of that is
14:36
if you are breastfeeding, you have to wear
14:38
things that are breastfeeding friendly. But you also
14:40
feel so in this in-between stage. As you
14:43
say, you don't know what your identity is.
14:45
You want to be functional, but you want
14:47
to look good. You're kind of not feeling
14:50
yourself. It's such a, you just feel really
14:52
between two worlds. So this episode is purely
14:54
to make everyone feel good about themselves. And
14:56
we want them to walk away going, I
14:59
am going to get rid of those
15:01
shitty ass jeans I haven't worn in
15:03
months, or I'm going to go get
15:05
a haircut or whatever it is. We're
15:08
going to answer your questions. And the first one that
15:10
came in, and I
15:12
think we might start with like, should
15:15
we do Fashion Doctor Liv help? Postpartum
15:18
and none of my clothes fit me, but
15:20
I know my body is going to be
15:22
changing heaps. So is it worth buying
15:24
anything? I feel like it is, but
15:26
I'm going to be toxic when it
15:28
comes to these questions because I'm all for
15:31
rewarding yourself and treating yourself, especially after you've just
15:33
had a baby. Like I think we all
15:35
deserve to do a little bit of shopping.
15:38
I think postpartum, the way I
15:40
talk about it is you have your mum
15:42
uniform, you've got postpartum period, which is what
15:44
you get to six, I don't know, three
15:46
months or whatever. It is. I think
15:48
it's worth buying some really comfy clothes for that
15:50
stage. Like I'm talking
15:52
if it's winter, like long comfy
15:55
dresses, matching tracksuits, even
15:57
if you just buy three new outfits, wear
15:59
them to get clothes. postpartum and then deal
16:01
with the new you after the postpartum period.
16:04
But I think it's worth it. I
16:06
completely agree and I often say to
16:08
people if you're pregnant and you're having
16:11
a baby shower or people are asking
16:13
what they can get you, your child
16:15
does not need another swaddle. They
16:18
don't need 17 swaddles in every
16:20
colour of the rainbow. They don't
16:22
need a thousand onesies. You need
16:26
new underwear. You need new underwear and
16:28
you just need a voucher for maybe
16:30
like one pair of jeans or as
16:32
you said, one pair of pants, you
16:34
know, coming into winter, they might be more of
16:37
a, you know, like a wide leg trouser or
16:39
whatever that are really comfy around the top. But
16:42
we spend all this money on our
16:44
kids or like we think, oh, they
16:46
need the absolute whiz bang of whiz
16:48
bang pram or whatever. And we leave
16:50
nothing left to ourselves. And I understand
16:52
so many people are on a budget
16:54
nowadays, but even if it is that,
16:56
you know, one pair of pants that
16:58
you feel really good in or that
17:00
one tracksuit set that's like a little bit more
17:02
elevated and you feel good in and out
17:04
of the house, I think it's
17:06
understated how good it feels to
17:08
feel good and that can still
17:10
be comfy. Yeah.
17:13
And also with the postpartum clothes, like if you're
17:15
buying your matching tracksuit or if you're buying like
17:17
a nice vintage dress, you can still like you
17:20
are still going to be wearing them after postpartum
17:23
or you use them as your clothes that you're going to get
17:25
vomit all over. You're going to be bumming
17:27
around in, leave them as your comfy while
17:29
then you start buying into like jeans and
17:31
more like dressier kind of options. And
17:34
if we're talking about budget, there
17:36
are so many brilliant op shops,
17:38
secondhand places that you can get
17:40
really good things. I will admit
17:42
I am hopeless at sourcing really
17:44
great things and vintage finds, but
17:46
there are places out there that
17:48
are cheap, affordable and if that's
17:50
somewhere, someone wants to look for
17:52
places like Vpop, if you're shopping
17:55
from home, things like Vpop, Poshmark,
17:57
often it's things that have barely
17:59
been done. been worn at all that
18:01
other people are selling for a fraction of
18:03
the price. If you don't have the
18:05
time anymore to get out and thrift and
18:07
go vintage shopping or op shopping, or maybe
18:10
that's something that you've never been particularly good at,
18:12
I feel like they're such a good place to
18:14
go to. Yeah, especially if you're
18:16
looking for big jumpers and there's lots
18:18
of like secondhand vintage jumpers that would
18:21
be great for postpartum and all those
18:23
websites and stores. And how do you
18:25
feel about maternity clothes, buying them for
18:27
pregnancy and breastfeeding? So with my first
18:30
pregnancy, I didn't wear any maternity clothes.
18:32
I just feel like you don't need
18:34
to. I just, you can wear tops
18:36
and things like that. That's just do
18:39
the trick. This pregnancy, I have actually
18:41
bought a maternity skirt from IME. I'm
18:43
probably saying that wrong with IAMIBU.
18:47
It has done me wonders for summer. But I do
18:49
think you don't really need to go down that maternity
18:52
clothing route. Like you
18:54
can wear, you can find tops that work
18:57
just as well. Bra's on the other hand,
18:59
are more for a maternity bra. I think
19:01
it also depends what season you're in. I
19:03
was heavily pregnant in summer, so I didn't
19:06
find that I needed it that much. Whereas
19:08
I feel like if I was heavily pregnant
19:10
in winter, I'd probably want maybe a pair
19:12
of maternity jeans, a pair of maternity pants,
19:15
or a skirt, like, you know, a maxi
19:17
skirt or something like that to help me
19:19
through. I've never been big
19:21
on like maternity
19:23
dressing postpartum, but
19:26
I understand that some people don't feel comfortable,
19:28
say, like pulling up their top to breastfeed
19:30
or whatever. And I think if you're in
19:32
that camp, you either do button down or
19:35
you get the tops that have the zips
19:37
and that kind of thing. Or
19:39
a little trick with that one is, which is
19:41
what I used to do when I didn't feel
19:43
defensive around, you know, feel comfortable breastfeeding. If you're
19:45
wearing a shirt or any kind of top you're
19:47
wearing, you just wear a little thinglet, thin strap thinglet
19:49
under the t-shirt, under the shirt. And then
19:52
you can pull the shirt up and then just pull this
19:54
over the thinglet down so you're covering your stomach if that's
19:56
what you're trying There's also
19:58
really good maternity. clothing in H&M,
20:01
they have a great section and
20:03
I used to get these
20:05
and I know I wasn't, I was pregnant a
20:07
long, long time ago, but they would have like
20:09
stretchy leggings and I
20:11
was very comfortable because I could use one
20:13
pair, it would just stretch with me for
20:16
that whole pregnancy and then I would just
20:18
go to like, because I didn't want to
20:20
have a maternity shirt, I would just get
20:22
like an extra large shirt that I liked
20:24
in wherever and put that over the
20:27
top and that seemed to work well. And then when
20:29
I had my third pregnancy, I couldn't be bothered
20:31
getting any of those things so I just
20:33
got an elastic hair tie, wrapped it around
20:36
my normal, short jeans loop and then that
20:38
gave me extra stretch. I've always been amazed
20:40
by that trick and I think it's a
20:42
great hack, but for me, it's not just
20:45
my tummy that goes during pregnancy and everyone's
20:47
like, oh I just do the hair tie
20:49
trick. I'm like, my jeans
20:51
are not getting above my knees, it's not
20:53
just a bumpy issue. So
20:56
it just depends, you know, where you grow
20:59
during pregnancy. In saying
21:01
all that on the topic of active wear,
21:03
with Gus I did have maternity leggings. This
21:06
baby, I don't know why, I just haven't gone around with it
21:08
and I've been forcing leggings on and I'm
21:10
so uncomfortable. So I think active wear, I
21:12
think there's a big base of maternity active
21:14
wear, I think that's a great, like if you're going to
21:16
be going to walks and stuff, I think it's good to
21:19
be comfortable and not try and force
21:21
yourself into your old leggings. Now
21:23
we had so many people saying, I
21:25
have no idea what my style even
21:27
is anymore. How do I find it
21:30
again and where do I start? I
21:32
feel like I've done a deep dive into this
21:34
recently because that's exactly why, like that's how I
21:37
felt when I had Gus. I was like, who
21:39
am I? I looked at my old wardrobe and I was
21:41
like, dude, I can't. Well, it's not that
21:43
I can't wear this stuff anymore, I just was like, that's
21:45
not me anymore and I just, you need to... You
21:47
only get the ick. I got the ick. I
21:49
think you just mature a bit maybe and I
21:52
like that mature a bit. And
21:55
I think we need to just lean
21:57
into the new you, lean into new identities.
22:00
you're leaning to be your mum and then come
22:02
to me and I'll help. No, I'm kidding. And then I
22:04
think if you do do a
22:06
deep dive into the new year, it
22:08
sounds really like science, sciencey,
22:11
but I talk
22:13
about creating a Pinterest board and
22:15
finding a new style. If anyone's
22:17
heard of the American stylist Alison
22:20
Bornstein, she's amazing. She has the
22:22
three word method where you find
22:24
your three style words. And
22:26
if you just really like, yeah, kind of think about what you
22:28
like now, why you don't like
22:30
the things that you like, put it
22:32
all together on a Pinterest board and just start. What
22:34
are your three style words at the moment? Yeah. And
22:37
what would we be? I did
22:39
these the other day. So my three style
22:41
words are colorful, creative
22:44
and comfortable. Although I feel like comfortable is
22:46
a bit of a cop out. I need
22:48
to work on that last one, but colorful,
22:51
creative and comfortable. So the first
22:53
one is your realistic words. So it's basically,
22:55
if you think about like what you wear
22:57
every day, what kind of like the common
23:00
thread on the outfits you wear every
23:02
single day. Oversized? Yeah, oversized is a
23:04
good one. I don't know what mine
23:06
would be. Colorful. Colorful. Colorful. And then
23:09
the second word is your, the
23:12
word that you inspire to be. So if you think
23:14
about like your Pinterest boards that you saved or people
23:16
that you look up to and you're like, oh, I
23:18
wish I could dress like that, but like that wouldn't
23:20
suit me kind of thing. Like what's the common thread
23:22
there? Mine was creative. I love when people put together
23:24
like creative outfits. Yeah. Mine would
23:26
be kind of unexpected, like
23:28
clashing things that work or
23:30
colors together that you wouldn't
23:32
necessarily expect, but they work together.
23:35
So mine would be unexpected or like
23:37
daring, daring maybe. I've got OCD so
23:39
I can't do any color. It freaks
23:41
me out. But I have, I've
23:45
got to say stylish, but
23:47
I'm thinking like chic. I'm thinking
23:49
like someone that just looks like
23:51
they've just thrown on like effortless.
23:53
Effortless. Yeah. Effortless. Oversized, effortless. That's
23:56
a good one. I think you've
23:58
already nailed that. So. Oh
24:00
yeah, you've reached your aspiration. Well, we've got one
24:02
more. We've got one more. So the third one
24:04
is how do you want your outfit
24:06
and your clothes to make you feel? This is what I feel
24:09
like, I need to do my third one again, but how do
24:11
you want them to make you feel like, do you want to
24:13
feel powerful? Do you want to feel confident? Do you want to
24:15
feel approachable? Like, you know,
24:17
I want to feel confident and joyous.
24:20
I want to feel sexy
24:23
and cool. They're
24:26
good. You're, they're good words. We need to
24:28
write these down. But that's right. I
24:31
like those. Okay. So these are the words
24:33
that we take in when we're buying a
24:35
new item, when we're curating a new outfit,
24:37
when are we using these words? Yeah. So
24:39
Alison Baughton, she's actually got a book called
24:41
Wear It Well, and the three word message
24:43
she makes. So now when you shop, so
24:46
if you figure out your style, your three style
24:48
words, then when you go shopping, if you go,
24:50
I love that jacket, is
24:52
it creative, colourful? Well, is it
24:54
comfortable? Is it going to make me feel
24:56
powerful? You use your word. If it's not
24:59
one of those words, you probably shouldn't buy
25:01
it. This is not going to fit into your wardrobe.
25:03
You need to buy anything in those three words. Everything
25:05
in your wardrobe is going to start to go together
25:07
and it just kind of like makes
25:09
your wardrobe start to be more your coastal
25:11
style. I love that. Cause I hate when
25:14
I get an item and then I'm like,
25:16
cool, I can wear that with one other
25:18
thing I own or, you know, you get
25:20
a dress and you're like, Oh, I can
25:23
only wear that, like with that specific pair
25:25
of heels or if it's cold, I have
25:27
no jacket that goes with that. So I
25:30
really am recently trying to pick things where
25:32
it's, you know, it's one thing
25:34
that can go with so many things. And I
25:36
think you don't want to have something. I have
25:38
always been that person that finds something in Zara
25:40
or wherever I am. And I'm like, Oh my
25:43
gosh, that looks so cool. I'm buying it, but
25:45
I don't actually think of what it will go
25:47
with or if I'll actually wear it. So it
25:49
sits in my wardrobe and whenever I look at
25:51
my wardrobe, I'll pull it out and go, that
25:54
looks so nice. But when was the last time
25:56
I wore it? I just can't wear it. I
25:58
actually heard Zara from shameless podcast. She has
26:00
an incredible fashion sense. I love it. I
26:02
can't remember exactly what she said. So don't
26:04
correct me if I've quoted her wrong, but
26:06
it was basically like if you have an
26:08
event on and you're buying something new for
26:10
it, if you don't have every other piece
26:12
in your wardrobe that you can wear with
26:15
it. So it's not like, oh, I'm going
26:17
to buy those pants and then I need
26:19
to find myself a pair of loafers that
26:21
would look great with them. Or I'm going
26:23
to buy that top, but I
26:25
don't have a skirt that would go with it, but that's okay. I'm
26:27
going to find this skirt. I can only
26:30
ever buy something if you have every other
26:32
item of the outfit to go with it,
26:34
because then I think it's so much more
26:36
likely that you can wear it in so
26:38
many versatile ways because you're not having to
26:40
get that one other item to go with
26:42
it. So do you recommend we've got our
26:44
three words, we've come up with them going
26:47
onto Pinterest and maybe saying, so for mine
26:49
would be oversized fashion women. And would it
26:51
come up with heaps of ideas and I
26:53
just start pinning things that I like to
26:55
get an idea of where I'm at. Yeah,
26:57
I think making Pinterest boards is great. You
27:00
just pin what you like and then you
27:02
can kind of go through them and see
27:04
the common threads. Another thing
27:06
I do after you've done your
27:08
style words is I kind of talk
27:10
about colors. Well, I speak to my clients about
27:12
colors and I say, pick, you've got
27:15
your base colors and your personality color.
27:17
This is to find your own personal style.
27:20
Your base colors, I would say pick two to
27:22
three colors and they're kind of like the canvas
27:24
of your wardrobe. So for me, mine would
27:26
probably be brown, different kind of non-neutral colors
27:28
for that. So yeah, your base colors would
27:31
be neutral. And to be honest, it doesn't
27:33
actually have to be a neutral color. Someone's
27:35
could be like, I love lots of pink.
27:37
So be brown and pink. And that's kind
27:39
of what you use to buy
27:41
like your basics in, like if
27:43
you're, you know, maybe your gym clothes, like if
27:46
you find a pair of jeans, you pick in
27:48
a color, you use that, you pick your base
27:50
color and then you've also got your personality
27:52
palette. So I say, choose, there's
27:54
no rules, but three to five colors that you're going
27:56
to stick to that kind of go together. Like I
27:59
love my orange. my red, my
28:01
pink, my purple. If
28:03
you start sticking to those colors, you've got your
28:05
base colors, your personality palette, everything in your wardrobe
28:08
is gonna start to go together. I'm insane
28:10
that, again, no rules. If you open my wardrobe
28:12
right now, it's like a rainbow. But since doing
28:15
this, and since even doing it, perhaps like
28:17
trying to practice what I preach and doing
28:19
these exercises myself, I find that I wake
28:21
up every day and kind of cancel something
28:23
from my wardrobe and everything is starting to
28:25
go together. I love that because I'm trying
28:27
to bring more color in, but then you
28:29
do, you get worried. But you get worried
28:31
that then it's not as versatile. But if
28:34
you have those base colors, that then those
28:36
base colors go with your personality colors. Well,
28:38
you're introducing all these colors, but they all
28:40
go beautifully together. I did the same thing
28:42
with Pinterest, and I also do it with
28:44
saved posts on Instagram.
28:47
And I just do like, is it a splatter
28:49
gun? Is that the term? Splatter gun approach or
28:51
whatever it is, where I just pin so much
28:53
stuff. I do it with interiors as well. And
28:55
then I go back through and you can really
28:58
see the ones that stick out as like, oh,
29:00
I love that outfit, but that's clearly not my
29:02
style because it doesn't really go with any of
29:04
the others. And then I see
29:06
the common theme. And I think another thing
29:09
if you're on a budget to do and
29:11
you want to wear fun or colorful clothing,
29:13
sometimes I think you go, okay, do I
29:15
want the tops or the bottoms
29:17
to be the fun part? Because sometimes I
29:19
think it's especially easier if you decide that
29:21
you want the tops to be the fun
29:23
part and the bottoms to be the
29:26
more constant. Because you can buy like a
29:28
pair of jeans and a pair of wide
29:30
leg trousers, for example, that you like. And
29:32
then tops generally are cheaper than bottoms as
29:35
well. And you can kind of go a
29:37
bit more out there with the tops and
29:39
they're the ones you can mix and match.
29:41
I guess you can do it the other
29:43
way around and get some really fun pants
29:45
with some plain, you know, good
29:47
t-shirts and that kind of thing. It's just pants
29:50
tend to be more expensive than the tops. And
29:52
then if you, so then I'm probably getting confusing, but
29:55
then I should wear outfit formulas. If
29:57
you've got your fun pair of pants and then your top would be
29:59
in your base color. So for me,
30:01
like today, I'm wearing a brown top and then
30:04
you wear like your fun pair of, I'm wearing
30:06
yellow pants right now, fun pair of pants. So
30:08
if you mix your base colors with your
30:10
personality palette, it kind of puts an outfit
30:13
together for you. Okay. So
30:15
if we can go back to when
30:17
we're asking ourselves, what is my style,
30:20
you know, postpartum, what if
30:22
we think about it like this? You've given
30:24
birth and we've got three months to sit
30:27
there with our comfy three items or whatever
30:29
we're doing, we're just coming, we're not thinking
30:31
about that because we're postpartum. Or you're longer
30:33
if you want. Whatever you want. No
30:36
one's forcing you out of your comfy for three months. But
30:38
in that time, you're just Pinteresting away
30:40
because you're going to get a style that
30:42
you feel comfortable with. And it's exciting. This
30:45
is a time where you can create a
30:47
new version and a new style of you
30:49
that you want to walk into. I think
30:51
this is really nice. Yeah. So
30:54
this is, I've actually just done a masterclass on this and I
30:56
could talk about this all day. But I
30:58
say have your baby when you're nesting in
31:00
your, and like wear pajamas. I've got cotton
31:02
on knife that I wear right now that
31:04
I will be wearing my whole postpartum. Be
31:07
comfy and lean into your
31:09
new identity, lean into the new, find
31:12
your style words, find your colours,
31:14
figure out what your outfit formula is. And
31:17
then my tip, which I've actually, I'm so excited to do
31:19
this book when I have this baby.
31:21
Once you're kind of getting out of
31:23
that postpartum period, if you've got space
31:26
in your room or in your house,
31:28
buy a clothing wrap, buy
31:30
like five coat hangers and buy, or when
31:32
I say buy, you can also shop your
31:34
own wardrobe. You don't need to go out
31:36
and buy five outfits. You can, but figure
31:38
out five outfits that are going to
31:40
suit your, and I can go more into what
31:42
outfits I think work for a mum uniform, but five
31:45
outfits that are going to suit your week in your,
31:47
like your new mum life. Hang them up. So
31:49
you've got your five outfits there and that's your postpartum
31:51
uniform. And because you've got your colours, you've done your
31:53
base colours, your personality palette and all that, they're all
31:55
going to mix and match. So you
31:57
have your accessories and then it's kind of like
31:59
you've built a your mum uniform separate from
32:01
your like weekend wear that's probably just
32:03
stuff in your in your wardrobe but
32:06
it takes up the mental load you wake up every morning you've
32:08
got your outfits there ready to go and that
32:10
kind of like you see I see my husband
32:12
go to work every morning he puts on a
32:14
suit I'm like god that must be nice I
32:16
can't even like you know when you got a
32:18
new one you've never got time to shower. My
32:20
husband doesn't even put on a suit but he
32:22
has like eight of the same white t-shirt a
32:24
few pairs of the same shorts and he's cropped
32:26
through his Birkenstocks and he just rotates
32:28
them and I'm like gosh I wish
32:30
that were enough for me but it's
32:33
not. If you are overwhelmed with
32:35
what to wear and it's just a
32:37
lot and I actually even though I'm
32:39
not postpartum anymore you
32:42
are forever babe. I am forever.
32:45
I have this like just in
32:47
my brain I get really overwhelmed
32:49
with how to dress because it's
32:51
too much for me and especially
32:53
postpartum sets saved my life it
32:55
was I didn't have to think
32:57
about it I didn't have to
32:59
like pair things together it was
33:01
like boom I felt comfortable like
33:03
a breastfeed in it and it was just
33:05
the easiest thing and there are so many
33:08
different styles of sets out there in the
33:10
world that I think everyone can be quite
33:12
comfortable in there and I think they're often
33:14
the kind of thing you can literally pick
33:16
up off the floor and you look put
33:18
together and thought out even though not even
33:21
a second of thought has gone into it.
33:23
I love the idea of the five outfits
33:25
because I think that's an
33:27
approachable amount of outfits to put your head around
33:29
and when you say five you kind of think
33:31
oh that's not enough and even if
33:33
you were wearing them on the weekend I'm
33:35
happy to be wearing on Saturday what I
33:37
was wearing back in Monday that would feel
33:39
like months ago when you have
33:42
got a baby. Yeah I think it's just so it
33:44
sounds like a control thing but it's so it
33:47
just takes place the mental load I don't know
33:49
about you guys but we'll talk about witching hour
33:51
I felt like with gas witching hour was out
33:53
was the morning I just could not do anything
33:55
in the morning I couldn't even
33:57
shower I was like I couldn't put him down.
34:00
So having my five outfits there, one for Monday,
34:02
she's there, one for the five, made me feel
34:04
good leaving the house. And you know what, I
34:06
leave the house still sometimes in gym
34:08
clothes, half pajamas, whatever, but
34:11
you don't feel good as you're doing that every day. You want
34:13
to dress to me, you feel good, especially during that
34:15
time. So what are examples, you said you
34:18
have some examples of what those mum uniforms
34:20
can look like. What are some examples of
34:22
those? So when I work with clients, and
34:24
obviously this is so personal, like it depends
34:27
on what you like to wear and you
34:29
know, everyone's different. But I always recommend having
34:31
one dress, whether
34:33
it's like if you like mini dresses and you want
34:35
to layer them in winter, if you like max dresses,
34:37
there's lots of different dress styles that you can choose.
34:40
One dress, and I say that you should
34:42
wear your dress on your busiest days. You wake up
34:44
and you've got a chaotic morning, put your dress on.
34:46
You don't even have to think, it's just a rec
34:48
and you've left the house, you look so
34:51
dark in a dress. Second, I always
34:53
say a pair of jeans, so hard
34:55
wearing, you know, everyone needs a pair of
34:57
jeans in their wardrobe, pair it with your t-shirt
34:59
or any other item kind of in
35:02
your mum uniform. Third, so
35:04
I'm starting with bottoms. Third, I say
35:06
always have a pair of track pants. And I
35:08
know a lot of people, when I
35:10
tell people, they're like, oh, I probably wouldn't leave the
35:12
house in track pants. But with your trackies, I say
35:14
find a really nice pair of like wide leg track
35:17
pants that you hang up. Like you
35:19
don't get home, wear them, drink your coffee,
35:21
have coffee and stay on them. Go to sleep,
35:24
put them in your bottom drawer. When you find
35:26
a nice pair of track pants, like treat
35:28
it as a jean. So when you're leaving
35:30
the house in your track pants, and
35:33
they still have a feel, they're so comfy. I
35:35
live in track pants. And even just you compare
35:37
that with like a nice crisp shirt. So
35:39
it's like, you feel more accessible leaving the house.
35:42
So you've got dress, track pants,
35:45
jeans. I always leave space for
35:47
an active wear date. So a pair of leggings,
35:49
but I think that's just more about how you
35:51
style it. So if you're going to wear your
35:53
leggings out. And
35:55
I think if you buy like the winter, for example,
35:57
I'm in the search. It's like a really cool over
35:59
the years. size jumper
36:01
with like a corded dick or something that
36:03
you wear with like cool socks and sneakers
36:06
just to make it look more than just
36:08
your old active wear. And then lastly I
36:10
say to have a piece in there that's
36:12
like really bold that inspires you. So for
36:15
the days that you're like, so
36:17
you're going out for lunch with the girls or you're even going
36:19
to the zoo but you want, you feel you've had a
36:21
good sleep that night, you feel like you want to
36:23
dress up a bit and look a bit more cooler,
36:25
whether it's like a leather print denim skirt or like
36:27
a patterned hair pad. That's
36:30
so great. I love that. Because I think
36:32
that's so true with the trackie pants. I
36:34
feel like I do that to myself so
36:36
often that it looks exactly the same to
36:38
anyone else out and about, but I've mentally
36:41
ruined the outfit by the occasions that I've
36:43
worn it in. Yeah. So keep them as
36:45
like your pants that you wear every day,
36:47
not just something you draw with all the
36:50
other trackies. I find that when I
36:52
wear trackies, I love to piece it with accessories.
36:54
So if you want to wear it and you
36:56
want to wear it all the time and you don't want
36:58
to get bored, change up your socks.
37:00
Wear really cool chunky socks and some
37:02
cool runners and then alternate on different
37:04
days. And I feel like it changed
37:07
the whole outfit. And that's the best
37:09
thing about having your mum uniform is
37:11
having your five outfits. And then
37:13
if you're a shopaholic like me, instead
37:15
of just buying random bits and bods
37:17
of jumpers and tops and stuff, you
37:19
can actually start spending money on
37:21
accessories and buying like cool chunky
37:23
jewelry or, you know, statement different
37:26
shoes and things like that to have more
37:28
fun with the outfit. Yeah, I do love
37:30
the bold accessories that are all the rage
37:32
now and I hope continuing on because it
37:34
does mean that you can just do that
37:37
simple crisp white t-shirt with jeans and then
37:39
you have put a cool necklace on that
37:41
does not have to cost much and boom,
37:43
you look so thought out and
37:46
put together. Yeah, exactly. And I talk as
37:48
well to my clients about a like the
37:51
power of accessories and mum uniform accessories.
37:53
Obviously, I've got like a whole cabinet
37:55
of like my chunky earrings, my
37:58
dangly earrings and my sunnies and all the fun
38:00
things. So if you have
38:02
a bowl next to your bed on your
38:04
bedside table or just somewhere that's really, really
38:06
accessible and you wake up every morning, you
38:08
put your earrings back on, you put your
38:10
everyday necklaces on, you put your rings on,
38:12
it just automatically elevates an outfit. And then
38:14
if you want to have fun with them
38:16
and you have a little baby that's going to
38:19
tug off your earring or something and you want to
38:21
dress up a bit more, then you can add the
38:23
chamfica. But it's also so good to have your practical
38:26
jewellery that's going to automatically
38:28
elevate the outfit. Definitely. And
38:30
I do want to suggest
38:32
that if you're buying basic
38:34
t-shirts that you have to
38:36
invest well because you want
38:38
it to wash well and
38:41
I'm going to say this because this is my
38:44
biggest thing. I have a million white t-shirts. I
38:46
am a white t-shirt gal. However, if
38:48
the fabric doesn't feel
38:52
right, I cannot wear it.
38:55
And you have to get that right
38:57
because otherwise you're just like, oh, that's a great
38:59
t-shirt, but I can't wear it. So I give
39:01
it to my husband because I'm like, I just
39:03
can't get that feeling. I really should look into
39:05
this. I really do
39:07
have some sensory stuff. Have you
39:09
found the perfect one? Yeah, I'm
39:11
wearing a Zulu and Zepa one
39:13
at the moment. It's huge. It's
39:16
oversized. It's got a seam that
39:18
goes past your, I
39:20
guess your first bicep muscle. And I
39:22
love it because you can tuck it in, you can tuck
39:25
it out. But I really do find if you look
39:27
well in say Zara
39:29
or H&M, you can find some
39:31
really nice t-shirts that are like
39:33
a mix of linen. I don't
39:35
like complete linen because I find
39:37
that's scotchy. But yeah, you can
39:39
close my go-to t-shirt. My
39:42
trick with oversized t-shirts, I like things
39:45
really, really, really oversized. So
39:47
I buy only men's like t-shirts
39:49
and jumpers and sweatshirts. So I'll
39:51
go on like, we've got a
39:53
shop here in Melbourne called Stirz Products.
39:56
I go in there to men's store and I buy all
39:58
my crew next to my and they
40:00
just, they feel like they
40:02
fit better, better quality, even
40:05
like Carhartt and some of those men brands are
40:07
really good for fast times. And that's what fast
40:09
times is. It's not a monster as well, but
40:12
really good t-shirts. How about
40:14
with oversized? I feel
40:16
like in theory, I always love oversized,
40:18
but if I'm having a mer day,
40:20
the oversized makes me feel mom. If
40:23
I'm having a great day and I'm
40:25
like feeling confident, the oversized makes me
40:28
feel cool and put together and edgy.
40:31
How do we make, I think
40:33
especially in those postpartum days when
40:35
often you're feeling bigger
40:37
than what you were before and you are
40:39
feeling, how do we just make it not
40:41
be sloppy? How do we make it actually
40:44
feel like, okay, that was a decision to wear
40:46
an oversized tee? I would say
40:49
only wear one oversized tee. So wear
40:51
a t-shirt with a really oversized bomber
40:53
jacket or puffer or blazer, or wear
40:55
your wide leg, really oversized jeans
40:58
with more of a fitted t-shirt. So
41:00
just pick one. Yeah, don't
41:02
do the whole thing. I find even on a
41:04
good day when I'm doing the whole oversized thing,
41:06
I'm like, I'm not a rake. So
41:09
it doesn't actually look that impressive. But I
41:11
do find that if I wear an oversized t-shirt,
41:15
everyone's wrists and ankles are quite
41:17
small. So that's where I
41:19
show my bits off. So I wear like, I don't
41:21
know, a skirt. No, that's a lie. I
41:24
don't wear skirts. I wear shorts or
41:26
I wear something that you can see
41:28
that my legs are slimmer than this
41:30
big oversized t-shirt that I'm wearing. And
41:32
then it kind of makes me feel comfortable because
41:34
I'm not showing my gunk. And
41:37
I guess that leads to another question. Someone wrote
41:40
in saying, I'm six months postpartum and I'm so
41:42
self-conscious of my mum pouch. I want to grow
41:44
to accept it, but I'm just not there yet.
41:46
Do I go tight to suck it in or
41:48
do I go loose to cover it up? So,
41:51
because I'm a big, I call it, you can
41:53
call it a big t-shirt. You can call it
41:55
a fupa apparently. You can call it a gunk.
41:57
I call it a gunk because it's weird. tummy
42:00
and the you know, so we combine
42:02
that word but I feel personally I
42:04
don't like anything too tight on it
42:06
because I feel sick and I don't
42:08
think that you need to spend a
42:11
whole day feeling sick to look good
42:13
so I get stretchy but comfy and
42:15
I always go one size up because
42:17
no one really sees it and you
42:19
can pull it in and then I
42:22
will then go oversized with the shirt
42:24
so I am a tighter person on
42:26
the on the pants and I'm a
42:28
looser person over the top. I'm the exact
42:31
same and this is probably an annoying answer
42:33
and I think it's trial and error finding
42:35
those things that are gonna sit well on
42:37
your tummy if you're feeling self-conscious of your
42:39
tummy don't force yourself to look so entire. Also
42:41
it's that whole like we need to just start
42:43
to learn how to be proud of our bodies
42:45
and like what they've done and everything but obviously
42:47
so much easier said than done I'm hoping maybe I'll
42:50
get some of that with baby too but I
42:52
will just say whatever it is,
42:54
which is actually gonna feel comfortable to
42:56
you and you're probably gonna look more confident.
42:58
Yeah I think that we're we need to
43:00
and we are kind of moving away from
43:02
the fact that you know an outfit I
43:04
think in the day it was like an
43:06
outfit is a good outfit is if it's
43:08
flattering and that was always flattering
43:10
meant it makes you look the
43:13
smallest version of yourself possible and
43:15
so I think it's completely down
43:17
to comfort I think you can
43:19
look rock an outfit that doesn't
43:22
make you look smaller so much
43:24
more than maybe an outfit that
43:26
does make you look smaller but you can't
43:28
breathe in it or you're feeling sick as
43:31
you say all day or you can't sit
43:33
down without undoing a button. I think that
43:35
we're really I think well the
43:37
the fashion pages that I follow are really starting
43:39
to embrace that cool fashion isn't just about
43:41
looking the smallest version of you. No it's
43:43
definitely not. I did a question box for
43:45
my stories the other day and it was
43:47
actually quite sad seeing all the responses and
43:49
it was just it was about like the
43:51
back postpartum fashion. I used
43:53
to honestly the majority of the responses
43:55
was like I need to know how to
43:57
look like how to dress my new body.
44:00
and look small in my new body. And
44:02
I was like, oh, I just, I
44:04
feel like if you think about, you look, you say
44:06
you're on a beach and you're looking around, everyone's
44:08
in bapini, you look at people who say you
44:10
look at someone, you're like, wow, she looks amazing.
44:12
It's usually the people that are walking with confidence
44:15
and just like happy with, and it's so much
44:17
easier than done. Like I don't, I'm also very
44:19
insecure with some parts of my body. But I
44:21
think if you find, if you know your personal style,
44:23
you find items or clothes that you love and make
44:26
you feel good, you're going to look good. You know,
44:28
we don't need to be looking skinny. And
44:30
speaking of those parts that we
44:32
feel uncomfortable, mine is my postpartum
44:34
gun, if you will, I've had
44:36
it for years, lots
44:39
of years, and I don't think it's ever
44:42
going to go away. So I've accepted and
44:44
I've embraced it. I don't have to love
44:46
it. It's there, but I have decided to
44:48
dress for it. So what I do is
44:51
when I, when I said before about having
44:53
something tighter around that area, it's actually a
44:55
confidence thing. I feel more confident right now
44:58
that if something's holding me in and I
45:00
think postpartum, when you feel that you
45:02
have that empty pouch after having a
45:04
beautiful baby in it, you feel
45:06
quite empty. So having something like
45:08
hugging that area feels quite nurturing and
45:11
then having the t-shirt over the top
45:13
just sort of tops it off or
45:15
a shirt, whatever, oversized. Yeah. It kind
45:17
of just makes you feel like, oh,
45:19
something's supporting me and still like, what
45:21
am I five years postpartum? I
45:24
do still feel that I'm being supported in
45:26
that area. Same. I'd never
45:28
wear low-rise. Never. No. And mine's
45:30
the same with underwear. Like I
45:32
don't, even if it is
45:34
an item of clothing, say it's a baggy item
45:36
of clothing that you would not be able to
45:38
tell any panty line on it,
45:40
see anything through it, whatever. If I
45:42
have any kind of low-rise underwear, I
45:45
feel so exposed. And if I have
45:47
something that's a bit more high-rise and
45:49
just that little bit more fitting, it's
45:51
not actually because I'm hiding anything. No,
45:53
I do. You feel like a bit
45:55
held and like I'm taking care of
45:57
this. part of my body that has
45:59
done so much. Yeah. You don't want
46:01
it digging into the love handles, reminding
46:03
me. No, there's a brand called Net-V
46:06
and I've worn these undies for years.
46:08
I should actually get some more because
46:10
I'm wearing the same five over and
46:12
over and this is the whole point.
46:14
But they have this band around them
46:16
that is just really subtle. It's quite,
46:18
what's that? Seven centimetres? Oh, I'm terrible
46:20
at that kind of thing. I could
46:22
be like three metres. It's enough to
46:25
give you some sort of support in
46:27
that area. Then when you're putting pants
46:29
or something over, you're not getting that like,
46:31
oh, I feel like it's all just flopping
46:33
around. It makes you feel quite confident. So
46:35
they're really good undies if anyone's looking for,
46:37
and they do them in a G-string. I
46:40
know Sophie will be like, no way in
46:42
hell, but I love a G-string. I can't
46:44
do G-string. I can't do G-string. That supports
46:46
the way. I am all for anyone. I'm
46:48
honestly impressed by anyone who can wear it.
46:51
We'll be back in a minute with
46:53
more Beyond the Bum Goodness after this
46:55
short break. Bumpies, are you struggling to
46:57
find daycare? That feels just right. Or
47:00
even finding daycare at all. Will we
47:02
have just the thing for you? That
47:04
we do so. It's called family daycare
47:06
and it's pretty much what it sounds
47:08
like. Cozy, nurturing childcare by qualified educators,
47:11
but in a home setting. Think of
47:13
it as your child's home away from
47:15
home. And for anyone dreaming of a
47:17
career change where you don't have to
47:19
choose between work and being there for
47:21
your kids, big moment, becoming a family
47:24
daycare educator could be your calling. Yep.
47:26
And becoming a family daycare educator is
47:28
about so much more than a job.
47:30
It's about creating a nurturing space right
47:33
where you live, making a profound impact
47:35
on children's lives while supporting your community.
47:37
You have the freedom to weave your
47:39
personal touch into every day, shaping a
47:42
learning experience that's as unique as your
47:44
home. Jade and I have both used
47:46
family daycare with our kids and absolutely
47:49
loved it. And it's changing the face
47:51
of early childhood education, learning and growing
47:53
together in a natural home environment. And
47:56
for all parents listening, this could be
47:58
the childcare solution you've been. searching

48:19
career journey, Family Daycare Australia is
48:22
there to guide you every step
48:24
of the way. Now, you sound
48:28
like you're doing something
48:30
else. Back to the show. What's
48:33
that person? I'm going
48:35
to expose my friend Jasmine. We were down
48:37
in Melbourne for a fashion week and she's
48:39
like, duh duh duh, I slept last night
48:41
in my J-string. I was like, how? How
48:43
does one fall asleep in a J-string? I
48:46
am baffled. I'm a cool great girl. Yeah,
48:49
no, I can't because of the line.
48:51
I'm real funny about it. If I
48:53
see the line, it just annoys me.
48:55
On me, I don't care about anyone
48:57
else. Just on me. I'm like, nope.
48:59
Now, moving on. Moving away from our
49:01
bumholes and our panty lines. I know.
49:03
We know it's your favourite topic
49:05
of conversation, but we have to
49:07
move on, Jade. How do we
49:09
find a balance between feeling yourself
49:11
but also dressing functionally for a
49:13
day with the kids? I
49:16
think it all comes back to knowing your own
49:18
style and starting the outfit.
49:20
I'm all for track suits, so
49:22
comfortable, but having them in your
49:25
colour palette, your personality palette,
49:27
and having them in
49:29
a style or a fashion that you love will make it
49:31
more you. At the same time, they're really
49:33
comfortable. You don't need to be wearing jeans
49:36
if you don't like jeans. Finding the right
49:38
piece of fear but choosing the colours that
49:40
you love. What are your thoughts on being
49:42
your own inspiration? I find when I
49:44
look back on myself, and I know that
49:46
I'm always a different weight and we fluctuate
49:48
with motherhood, but I look at photos of
49:51
myself and I think there's one that I
49:53
really loved myself when Sophie and I were
49:55
in Sydney. I was like, I
49:57
love that outfit. I'm not that size guy.
50:00
The game. So for me, Anymore. But what
50:02
if I could take that as in
50:04
storage and six I know it works
50:06
and just size up. Could you go
50:08
back on your own camera roll and
50:10
look alike? Know I love that I'm
50:12
in a do that again. I think
50:14
it's hardly depends especially post partum with
50:16
the lens that which are looking at
50:18
least I think it's often held be
50:20
a to use yourself as inspired than
50:22
someone else but I think that post
50:24
and sometimes. It's I think you gotta
50:26
be really stick with what lens you're gonna be
50:28
looking at it for a. Year.
50:31
Or as in I think you're looking
50:33
at it in a really really positive
50:35
way. but I think that some people
50:37
could look back on their camera rolling
50:39
guy you're actually like that out see
50:41
it or do I just my get
50:43
my my body looks their i'm thinking
50:46
I'd just trying to look back and
50:48
think you could appreciate yourself in different
50:50
lives and stages and eat. Or it
50:52
doesn't just because he look right there.
50:54
I guess looking at yourself and feeling
50:56
great about that momentum going on. How
50:59
good did I looked and. Will Walk
51:01
on I wear something similar or something
51:03
that makes me feel as good as
51:05
that did. Yeah, need a nice beinn
51:08
styling spicer to be or itself the
51:10
dup dup Hell I'm not how I.
51:12
See, I guess you probably do look
51:14
for yourself with the likely you're either
51:16
it's a win in the city of
51:18
Mumbai. putting you on you're not feeling
51:21
hopeful, a new in your skin be
51:23
probably bookie if you look at the
51:25
alpha kind. Your eyes plenty of hundred and
51:27
you know I was looking I was looking
51:29
gal battle for is no much. Why was
51:31
I in my head about how I look
51:33
thin? Don't get me wrong I look back
51:35
and guy you what the hell were you
51:38
thinking? They're bomb if you. Decide. So rare
51:40
for me to look back on a side of myself
51:42
and be like that Was a great out choice. If
51:44
it's anything more than. Five years or more
51:46
that we use. Your
51:50
the my name's resiliency on there and
51:52
plain jane. Love my boyfriend! I'd I'd
51:54
ordered by that he has. Any time I'll
51:57
look I'll look at our foreign people of
51:59
Iran. I love looking back. I
52:01
had a photo of me when I was 18 and
52:03
I was going to a nightclub. I was wearing a
52:05
floral mini dress and I had leather gloves
52:09
on. I
52:11
laughed at it and I don't feel so embarrassed.
52:13
I was having fun with my fashion at that
52:15
time. Just the more you experiment, you
52:17
probably do look back and think, what was that? I
52:20
would never feel ashamed by it. I think it's great.
52:22
When you said about looking back, I think that you're
52:24
looking at it in a great way. The only reason
52:26
I think that some people need to
52:28
be careful is because I know there's this
52:30
stage that I look back and I'm going
52:32
to admit this. After I
52:35
had Goldie, it was probably like a
52:37
year or so down the track and
52:39
I cut my hair short. I look at it all the
52:41
time and I go, oh, maybe I should cut my hair
52:44
like that again. I know
52:46
the only reason I love those photos is because
52:48
I was skinnier than I am now. Yeah, right.
52:51
I then am like, do
52:54
I just like that because I'm wearing a dress
52:56
that maybe I wouldn't feel comfortable in right now
52:58
or do I actually like my haircut? I think
53:00
that just, we'll top the photo and just wear
53:03
your head around and see if you like that
53:05
for a while. I'm just admitting that sometimes I
53:07
think that, yeah, looking back on ourselves can be
53:09
great. And then other times it's like, oh, sometimes
53:12
it can almost be an even
53:14
more harsh comparison in your mind
53:16
because it's actually you. Yeah, maybe we
53:18
need to not hold on to it and lean
53:20
into the new us. Let's
53:22
talk a little bit about trends. Should
53:24
we be buying into trends? I think
53:27
that sometimes it can be an easy
53:29
way to dress because there's so much
53:31
inspiration out there. So many, you see
53:33
so many ways. For example, it's the
53:35
leopard jeans right now. I
53:37
cannot open Pinterest or Instagram without
53:40
seeing some form of picture
53:42
of how a pair of leopard jeans
53:44
can be styled. Before, you know, a
53:46
couple of months ago, I would have
53:48
been like, they're not very versatile. Now
53:50
I'm like, I have 75 outfits in
53:52
my head that I could wear them with. Do
53:55
we jump on it or should
53:57
we just go, that's going to be
53:59
over? in six weeks time. I'm so
54:01
torn with trends. I think there's a time and
54:03
a place for trends and I think there's a
54:06
person that they're amazing for. If you're maybe
54:08
younger or not even, it's not even 18,
54:10
but you're trying to find a style, then the trends
54:13
can be so helpful because you can experiment
54:15
with like lesson print or there was like
54:17
cottage or there's like clean your aesthetic and
54:19
you can try them all and see what
54:21
you like. But I'm off the trend bandwagon.
54:23
Like the micro trends kill me, I think
54:25
since doing rattle because I see
54:27
them so quickly and I probably tend to see
54:29
them like maybe a little bit earlier than when
54:32
they come out. By the time they're out, I'm
54:34
like, I've got the increment and I think it's
54:36
hard when my eye was tested with lesson print.
54:38
I've got, I've had lesson
54:40
print for years and you're
54:42
not saying. I've been wearing
54:44
lesson for so long. But
54:46
fortunately I have to wait.
54:49
I think it's hard when, okay, when you
54:51
use my friend, for example, she always dressed
54:53
in red, like red was her color and
54:56
now then the red trend comes on
54:58
and she's like, it kind of puts
55:00
you off them. So I think what
55:02
I say to my clients is trends
55:04
are awesome and they're so fun when
55:06
you're experimenting and they are fun. Like I
55:08
love lesson print, I love lesson print but I
55:10
think back to the mum uniform, you've got
55:12
your mum uniform that you love and this
55:15
doesn't have to be, also I
55:17
don't think a mum uniform is like a capsule
55:19
wardrobe. I'm not into capsule wardrobes but you've got
55:21
your uniform. If you want to add some leather
55:23
printer, if you want to add some red, have
55:25
a nod to the trend of my life, a
55:27
lesson print belt or lesson boot. You can
55:29
kind of have fun with it. You don't
55:31
need to be wearing, also you can, you
55:33
don't need to be wearing a lesson repair
55:35
coat and hat, you know, wasting all your
55:37
money. I think the trends just go so
55:40
through so quickly that we just get
55:42
obsessed with them and then they're out.
55:44
And on that topic, I want to
55:46
talk about social media for a second
55:48
because I think that this is where
55:50
a lot of our inspiration can come
55:52
from and I follow a girl that
55:55
is very much into a capsule wardrobe
55:57
and every time she posts like
56:00
she'll go, oh, ripped
56:02
denim jeans are out and plastic heels.
56:04
If you've got plastic heels, they're out.
56:06
Clearly she's kind of English if you
56:08
don't get that by the way I'm
56:10
speaking. Anyway, I'm like, you are,
56:12
you were writing off
56:14
my whole entire wardrobe. And I'm rocking
56:17
that. I love that. So my point
56:19
is if you are watching things and
56:21
they're saying, oh, that's not in all
56:23
that's, it doesn't matter. No. What's for
56:26
you? It's really good. Yeah. Exactly. And
56:28
I, I'm so careful even in groundswatch
56:30
and stuff. Like I'm even careful to
56:32
tell people what I like. Cause
56:35
I'm like, what I like, like lots of
56:37
people would not like what I'm wearing, but
56:39
I think that you can appreciate it. It's
56:41
just, yeah, find what you like.
56:43
And because if someone's wearing, I don't
56:46
know, now I'm going to say something when people are
56:48
going to continue in scenes or whatever like that. Like
56:50
who cares if you're going to feel good in it,
56:52
you wear it and you'll look
56:55
the best. Dr. Liv, it's
56:57
so hard. This is what someone wrote
56:59
in. It's so hard because I'm not working.
57:01
So I'm not earning. Therefore I can't
57:03
afford anything, which means I'm not buying anything
57:05
new that makes me feel good, which then
57:08
leads to further identity loss help.
57:11
So I think in this case
57:14
that is really hard. I think
57:16
that you can do a massive
57:18
wardrobe cleanse. I don't
57:20
know how much this person has in their wardrobe or,
57:23
you know, any of that. But I think go
57:25
through your wardrobe, take it all out,
57:28
try it all on, put things in piles and
57:30
find that you can shop your own wardrobe. You can
57:32
find things that are in there. You're like, you know,
57:34
I can, I can work with you. So shop
57:36
your own wardrobe, figure out the gaps in your
57:39
wardrobe. And then if you
57:41
can maybe, you know, there's, there is
57:43
some really great second hand shops or,
57:45
you know, less expensive shops
57:47
you can shop. And then, yeah, once you've
57:50
seen the gaps in your own wardrobe, if
57:52
you can buy some basics that suit those,
57:54
just the bare minimum and then rotate those
57:56
outfits around. And here's a hot tip. Do
57:59
not try this. this shit on when you
58:01
are stressed, when you are hormonal, which is
58:03
going to limit you. And
58:05
also when it is hot because I have
58:07
tried this and I threw out my whole
58:09
wardrobe because I'm like, I hate you all.
58:12
So, make sure you've got a fan on or
58:14
something. Yeah. And when you're in
58:16
the postpartum, don't wait till I know that
58:18
you're always stretched for time and you're the
58:21
last person you think about. Do not get
58:23
dressed for dinner five minutes before you go
58:25
because the amount of wardrobe tantrums
58:27
I have had and it leaves
58:30
you feeling so, so shit. And no
58:32
matter how good the outfit ends up
58:34
being when you leave the house, it
58:36
ruins your night. You know what my tip
58:38
of that is? When you've got time
58:40
or when you put on a cool outfit, take a
58:42
photo of it, put it in a folder on your
58:44
phone and then you can kind of figure out what
58:46
you're wearing a couple of days before you know you're going
58:48
to dinner. Don't even try it on
58:50
until you've got a full shower, don't you have
58:52
done your makeup and then you put it on.
58:55
That's why I'm getting back to with the photos
58:57
of you whenever in your camera roll. If you
58:59
have saved photos of you looking good at some
59:01
stage, and I know obviously postpartum is different, it
59:03
gives you inspiration in your wardrobe. You know, oh,
59:05
I've got that jumper. Maybe it doesn't go with
59:07
those jeans because I can't fit them, but it
59:09
might go with this skirt. These trousers,
59:12
oh yeah. Yeah. And I love just
59:14
finding an outfit on Pinterest and going, okay, I
59:16
may not have those exact items, but
59:18
as you said, shipping your own wardrobe.
59:20
You know, sometimes it's just a combination
59:22
you haven't thought of or you know,
59:24
it might be a boring white t-shirt,
59:26
but wow, they've elevated to look so
59:28
cool with that item or whatever. And
59:31
I think that you get so much more wear
59:33
out of your wardrobe because you're going back in
59:35
and going, oh, I'm going to pop that with
59:37
that and then with that jacket. And oh my gosh,
59:39
that's an outfit I've never worn together, but there's
59:41
things I just had in my wardrobe myself. And
59:44
I think back on that question where
59:47
and shopping your own wardrobe, I think, and I need
59:50
to like listen to myself here. Having
59:52
your wardrobe really organized, ironed,
59:54
like really crisp, it makes it so much
59:56
easier to then put something out, put it
59:58
on and feel nice in it. Mine's a complete
1:00:00
mess right now, but I actually I'm
1:00:02
a terrible iron. I don't know I
1:00:05
in anything and it's not the point
1:00:07
where it limited so much of the
1:00:09
wardrobe because I Would
1:00:11
pick up something that was wrinkly and
1:00:13
then be like well that just look
1:00:15
Oh, that's even too wrinkly for me
1:00:17
So I've actually started I leave my
1:00:19
iron in my wardrobe now I'm gonna
1:00:21
be downstairs in my laundry because I'm
1:00:23
much more likely if I've got the
1:00:26
time to get dressed I'm more likely
1:00:28
to have the time then to give
1:00:30
the pants a quick iron or give
1:00:32
the t-shirt a quick iron because I
1:00:34
have Come to realize that the difference
1:00:36
a basic white tee looks between being
1:00:39
crinkly and being ironed is just
1:00:41
a whole No, no, welcome to the
1:00:43
club. It's only three children and nearly
1:00:45
33 years to get here But
1:00:48
I just think that actually storing your
1:00:50
iron in your wardrobe makes such a
1:00:52
difference or a steamer or whatever it
1:00:54
is Highly highly suggest a steamer. I
1:00:56
got a really cheap one from Kmart
1:00:59
And I keep it in my wardrobe because
1:01:01
I've got no time to just steam clothes
1:01:03
when I'm putting People's clothes
1:01:05
away. Yeah, it's not hot you turn it
1:01:07
off and it goes down So you're not
1:01:09
gonna like scold a child and honestly, it's
1:01:11
just a yeah, and then you're done you're
1:01:13
out So I find a not not
1:01:15
I end out fit for me is like my
1:01:18
husband does it and I'm like, I can't I
1:01:20
can't look at you My
1:01:22
thing, but you know what I'm doing
1:01:24
for my pre-baby uniform. I'm not in my
1:01:26
anything it needs behind Sometimes
1:01:30
things catch you off guard Yeah I
1:01:32
see people looking fabulous in black clothing and
1:01:34
then any black clothing of mine is so
1:01:36
covered in lint or whatever It's good that
1:01:38
I'm like, okay cool. It looks good until
1:01:41
I wash it and now it just looks
1:01:43
terrible So I always have a lint roller
1:01:45
in there, but that's yet to be used
1:01:48
Another thing to do when you're in your postpartum and you're
1:01:50
in your baby bubble and you figure out your style Write
1:01:53
down a list of boundaries like
1:01:55
I've got cats So no, just because you've
1:01:57
got all the time in the world of
1:02:00
an exercise you've got to find out. I've got cats,
1:02:02
so it's like no black. And then
1:02:04
like, you know, no black. Oh, so you're gonna go no cats,
1:02:06
no kids, no husband. I'll be like, yeah, that's easy. I'd
1:02:09
be looking fabulous every day. Yeah,
1:02:12
right down the list of barriers
1:02:14
that you just, if you're breastfeeding, make
1:02:16
sure that you're top breastfeeding friendly. Then
1:02:19
when you went to the shop or go to find
1:02:21
your five-out, you can see my uniform. You can make sure
1:02:23
that all of that criteria.
1:02:26
So we've got our kind of yes rules
1:02:28
and then our no rules and we try
1:02:30
and stick to that and then it makes
1:02:32
it easier. When is the time to throw
1:02:34
the pre-baby clothes away? Okay,
1:02:38
I've got a good system for this. Clear
1:02:41
out your wardrobe. Again, I know when you've got
1:02:43
a baby, it's like not on top number one
1:02:45
of your priority list and you're so busy, but
1:02:47
if you've got the time, clear out your wardrobe,
1:02:50
make some piles. There's a yes pile,
1:02:52
things you wear all the time. There'll
1:02:54
be a pile that's like, I
1:02:56
love this and I'm not ready to get rid of it,
1:02:58
but I can't say I haven't worn it for the past
1:03:00
year. I put it in a tub and then there's a
1:03:02
no pile that you get to sell those or
1:03:04
to goodbyes or a shop like that. But if
1:03:06
you put it in a tub and then you
1:03:08
leave, I've got three tubs at
1:03:10
the bottom of my wardrobe and then after like
1:03:13
six months and I'm doing my next wardrobe, clear
1:03:15
out, I'll go through those tubs. If I still
1:03:17
am like, I'm not going to use this, then
1:03:19
I'll send that to the elbows. So
1:03:21
you get like a three step phase. I
1:03:23
think we all know that we're going to
1:03:26
throw it out. That's
1:03:28
what it is. That whole tub ends up, it
1:03:30
could probably stuff that you're like, this might fit
1:03:32
me one day. And let me know that I'll
1:03:34
be like, yeah, there's also clothes
1:03:37
that can be called something for me. Hold
1:03:39
on to clothes. So I'm like, oh, I
1:03:41
loved that. Maybe there's another tub to
1:03:43
like sentimental clothes that you just never opened in
1:03:45
your whole entire life that you haven't gotten rid
1:03:47
of. Yeah. And sometimes I look at an item
1:03:49
and I'm like, I wore that throughout my pregnancy.
1:03:52
Like I had a garage sale last weekend
1:03:54
and I sold half my wardrobe and I
1:03:56
know it is a cliche, but the less
1:03:58
you have in your life. wardrobe,
1:04:00
obviously to an extent, the more you
1:04:02
wear and the easier it is to
1:04:04
get dressed in the morning. And I
1:04:07
had items that I still liked, but
1:04:09
I remember them being on my body
1:04:11
while I was pregnant. And because I
1:04:13
hated my pregnancy so much, I honestly,
1:04:16
I cannot, I cannot put them back on my body.
1:04:18
I cannot look at it. I cannot like it. It's
1:04:21
just, but that is a really, it is
1:04:23
a hard point. I generally am
1:04:25
like, okay, don't make any rash
1:04:27
decisions kind of in the first
1:04:30
year. And then by the next year,
1:04:32
once you've gone through a season, say it's like
1:04:34
a summer thing. And this isn't necessarily about you've
1:04:36
got a year to get back to pre baby
1:04:38
size or anything like that. But I think it
1:04:40
gives you that time to get that kind of
1:04:43
into the swing of a bit more of a
1:04:45
normal life. And it's like, okay, if I've gone
1:04:47
through the whole of another summer and I haven't
1:04:49
worn that summer item, then I don't think there's
1:04:52
going to be all of a sudden and need
1:04:54
to wear that. And then you get through a
1:04:56
winter and you're like, okay, we've been through another
1:04:58
winter. I haven't worn those pants. I
1:05:00
think we can agree that they are not
1:05:03
a necessity. No. And you know what? A
1:05:05
friend said to me actually recently when I
1:05:07
was clearing out my wardrobe, she was over.
1:05:09
She said, because I feel like I have a lot
1:05:12
of guilt. Like I feel guilty giving something to the
1:05:14
Salvation Army or we've got a really good shop here
1:05:16
in Melbourne called Goodbyes and you put your clothes down
1:05:18
and you get money back for it. That kind of
1:05:20
thing. I'm always like, oh, I feel guilty. I've set
1:05:22
money on it. And she's like, why do you feel
1:05:25
guilty? It's so good dropping things in the cell box.
1:05:27
That's amazing. And I'm like, oh, maybe
1:05:29
let go of the guilt. I know it probably feels like money
1:05:31
down the drain and you might want that
1:05:33
certain piece again, but let go of the guilt of it
1:05:35
because you're doing a good thing. You're donating
1:05:37
it to charity. Now, if we
1:05:39
are talking about mum hair because
1:05:42
postpartum, we've got one
1:05:44
issue and it's snapped postpartum,
1:05:47
frizzy flyaways. And I feel like we
1:05:49
are always trying to do the mum,
1:05:51
bum, mum, bum. We're always trying to
1:05:53
do the mum, bum, day. We're going
1:05:55
back to bum. Can't help it. We'll
1:05:57
do an episode all on bum. So,
1:06:01
Mum Bunch, but do
1:06:04
we cut our hair to get like a fresh,
1:06:06
I'm looking at you, you've got a fresh cut.
1:06:08
I did it. Yeah. So, this is what I
1:06:10
say with the Mum Bunch. I
1:06:12
have always had long hair and I was
1:06:14
so scared to cut my hair, but I
1:06:16
had, I didn't have like nice long hair. My
1:06:19
hair was got so racy, I thought it was
1:06:21
falling out. I've got really curly hair. It was
1:06:23
dying. I was like, what am I doing? Trying
1:06:25
to like hold on to these like luscious long
1:06:28
hair that looks so dead. I chopped it. I
1:06:30
haven't looked back. You look, but how do you,
1:06:33
how do you, because you don't, like that doesn't look
1:06:35
like a Mum Bob to
1:06:37
me. Because someone wrote in saying,
1:06:39
I don't want the Mum Bob,
1:06:42
but I feel like my long hair
1:06:44
is scraggly. And every time I try
1:06:46
and do the Mum bun, I just
1:06:49
end up having fly away hairs everywhere
1:06:51
because of postpartum hair loss. So, how
1:06:53
do you do the chop without it
1:06:55
looking like, too mumpy? I'm
1:06:57
not a hairdresser. I think it's the length. I
1:07:00
think people, people do the chop and they
1:07:02
get too nervous. They got a hairdresser. I'm never
1:07:04
sure, but maybe just got it here. I
1:07:06
think you either have long hair or you have a
1:07:08
bob like my chin. And
1:07:11
I've had it, I've done that. I've gone to the hairdresser and
1:07:13
be like, oh, I'm going to go short. So let's do
1:07:15
it in stages. And then I just got this
1:07:17
like awkward middle stage where I'm like, I look
1:07:19
like a mum. Not that it's special, it's mum.
1:07:21
We are mums. That's kind of
1:07:23
like the mum bob. But I think if you're going
1:07:25
to, if you're going to chop your hair, chop your
1:07:27
hair. Don't be around the bush. Your hair's going
1:07:29
to grow anyway. I can get a mob. I've
1:07:31
had something done recently and look, it was
1:07:33
kindly gifted and I know it's quite expensive.
1:07:36
So it may not be accessible to everyone,
1:07:38
but I got a semi-permanent hair straightening
1:07:41
and it's like a high maintenance hack to look
1:07:43
low maintenance. So now I can literally
1:07:45
get out of the shower. My hair
1:07:47
can air dry and it looks nice
1:07:49
and smooth for days. Whereas before I
1:07:51
liked how my hair would air dry
1:07:53
on the first day, but then once
1:07:55
I slept on it, it had to
1:07:57
go up. Like it was frizzy and
1:07:59
really big. large and I have a
1:08:01
lot of thick hair. So if that is something
1:08:03
that is within your means, I highly recommend it.
1:08:05
It lasts six months. I justify it to myself
1:08:07
because I don't dye my hair, but I do
1:08:10
that with lots of things. I'm like, I can
1:08:12
get my brows laminated because I don't pay to
1:08:14
have my hair dyed. I can get this done.
1:08:16
I'm like, where does this end? Yeah, I don't
1:08:18
dye my hair. And you know what's funny with the
1:08:20
bob, I used to get really great. When my hair
1:08:22
was longer, I would have to wash it.
1:08:24
It would get really greasy. I'd have to
1:08:27
straighten it every day because I've got really
1:08:29
curly hair. For some reason, maybe because it's
1:08:31
healthier. Let's talk again when I'm breastfeeding. I'm
1:08:33
helpful. Because
1:08:35
it's healthier now. I feel like I've washed
1:08:37
it less and I straighten it like once.
1:08:39
And then I just brush it to the
1:08:42
next stage. One thing I do love about
1:08:44
the short bob is your hair is a
1:08:46
style within itself. And I feel like you
1:08:48
can get away. Not
1:08:50
that you wear basic outfits, but you can
1:08:53
wear really basic outfits. And your hair is
1:08:55
like a bold necklace or your hair is
1:08:59
like a cool hair bag. It's an accessory
1:09:01
within itself. I felt like
1:09:03
three once I cut my hair because I was always
1:09:06
trying to think what hairstyle would go with this or
1:09:08
what. And I'm like, now I don't even have to
1:09:10
think about it. I've only got one option. But if
1:09:12
you're not going to do, like if you don't feel
1:09:14
confident in cutting your hair completely fair enough. Another thing
1:09:17
is I would just flick to do the sleek crony
1:09:19
and you use the slick sticks and all of that.
1:09:21
Lots of gel every day. You can get the little
1:09:23
slick sticks. I think sports girl, I think
1:09:26
you can get them in chemists, but
1:09:28
also you can get hairspray. You can
1:09:31
use gel, put it on your pomade.
1:09:33
That works with a smoothing brush. And
1:09:35
you can just literally slick it all
1:09:37
back. And then once it's actually in
1:09:39
the bun, the slick bun, you can
1:09:41
then go again with your really soft
1:09:44
bristle brush and go over
1:09:46
it. And it gets all
1:09:48
the flyways back and you're like, okay. And
1:09:50
then you don't actually have to wash your
1:09:52
hair because the greasier it is, the better.
1:09:54
And it's offing your hairs on its worst
1:09:56
hair day. And I generally get the most
1:09:58
confident. They're like, Oh, where are you? going? I'm
1:10:00
like, oh mate, if you knew what was
1:10:02
in this thing, this has got an ecosystem
1:10:04
of its own in here. I
1:10:07
do miss being able to flick my hair out.
1:10:09
Oh, do you know what you would look really
1:10:11
cute with? And I'm sure you probably do it.
1:10:14
Those little clips in your hair. I
1:10:16
do need to buy some. You would look
1:10:18
so cute. Yeah, I've seen people with the
1:10:20
bob with the clips and I need to
1:10:22
actually buy some. You need to do that
1:10:24
and we need a photo. Do you think
1:10:26
there's anything we've missed? I think that's been
1:10:28
fantastic. It's been so fun. So fun. I
1:10:30
think it's like a just no-brawl chit chat
1:10:32
that we've had. Imagine, here we go, imagine
1:10:35
if we all got on a bus
1:10:37
and went on a bumpies style
1:10:39
shopping spree. That would be so fun. Oh
1:10:41
God, that would be so fun. We could
1:10:43
just even do a styling session. Yeah. We
1:10:46
want the styling session guys. Who wants a
1:10:48
bumpy styling session? Get in our Facebook Facebook group
1:10:50
and let us know. And give us ideas of
1:10:53
how we can do it. Yes, and if you can
1:10:55
leave the way for us. So
1:10:58
it's winter wear and the whole day. Oh, that
1:11:00
would be so fun. All right, leave this with
1:11:02
us. Well, I think that's everything today.
1:11:04
This has been so fun. I feel
1:11:06
like often there's always an element of
1:11:08
like a bit dark. So this has
1:11:10
been so light and amazing. And everything
1:11:12
I said, with a grain of salt.
1:11:14
Totally. I think that's the thing. I
1:11:17
think if you're happy and you're active
1:11:19
wear in what you're wearing, just do
1:11:21
it. Feel good. Thank you so much.
1:11:23
Thank you. That was so fun. Bye-bye.
