We’re continuing this week with Bridging the Generational Gap in the Workplace Part 2 with generation expert Kristin Scroggin, with genWHY Communications. This week, we’re discussing how your bosses view you as a Millennial, Gen-Z or Gen-X. We’re also discussing techniques to have better working relationships with all the generations. Lastly, we’ll dive into why those high tech companies are doing better at retaining the younger generations!

Generation Breakdown:

  • Traditionalist: 1924 -1945
  • Baby boomer: 1946 - 1965
  • Gen X: 1965 - 1984
  • Gen Y (Millennials): 1985 - 2005
  • Gen Z (technically still Millennials): 1995-2005
  • Gen Alphas (rename for COVID) - 2006 - Present

Top Tips:

  • Gen X, also known as the “latch-key” kids, are not as social as the other generations. They are also very good at having work-life balance. Don't expect to socialize a lot with this generation in the workplace or outside of it.
  • Baby Boomers are notorious for being SMEs(Subject Matter Experts). You need to be intentional of learning from these SMEs so that they are willing to give you all their nuggets of knowledge.
  • Millennials have a strong need for everything to be fair.  Keep in mind not everything is fair and it's all about a balance.
