Over the centuries Muslim artists have been some of the most renowned producers of art and culture throughout the world. From the architecture of Central Asia and West Africa, to Persian poets and the emergence of Qawali in the Indian subcontinent. Considering this rich cultural history, do Muslim artists in the West get away with producing low quality art? Art that is applauded by Muslim communities, but would not hold up to scrutiny in the mainstream, and doesn't meet the high artistic standards of our past. Does the term "Islamic art" even make sense, and what qualifies a piece of art as being "Islamic"?
