Immersive narrative, amazing audio quality, fun PCs, with a brilliant DM. Why haven't you started listening yet?
Ballad of the Seven Dice - A Pathfinder & Call of Cthulhu PodcastThank you so much for the great review, Andrew! We're so glad you're enjoying the show, we have so many bright and wonderful Shining Birthdays to bring to everyone still!
Ballad is one of those podcasts that you will love! Along with the main story, the DM brings in several guests for side stories, and then also brings an audio drama feel with episode shorts between the main episodes. The flow of the podcast allows you to feel completely immersed in the narrative and you will not regret listening to their whole catalog!
Ballad of the Seven Dice - A Pathfinder & Call of Cthulhu PodcastThanks for this fantastic review, Dave! We absolutely love doing those audio drama shorts, i hope you are ready for some cult heavy ones!
Terrifyingly TerrificThe story begins with a twist and settles into what feels like a traditional fantasy campaign before taking a sharp left turn into mind-blowing macabre. The production values are some of the best you will hear and Lucas' gift for storytelling and performance bring this unique world to life.Do yourself a favor and make time for Ballad of the Seven Dice.

Ballad of the Seven Dice - A Pathfinder & Call of Cthulhu PodcastThank you so much for the fantastic review, I'm so glad you're enjoying the show!
Ballad of the Seven Dice is an excellent 5e actual play that will have you hooked you immediately. Delivering straightaway on both well-paced action and fascinating lore, DM Lucas does a great job of building the world from the outset without it feeling heavy-handed or overproduced. The characters are fun and creative, and you can tell the group has great chemistry at the table. If you’re looking for an epic fantasy interwoven with cosmic stakes, existential horror, and lighthearted moments between comrades, this is the podcast for you!
Everything about this podcast is great. If you like actual play D&D podcasts and are looking for a new show to add to your playlist, look no further. This show will hook you in the first episodes and keep you invested with expert storytelling and top notch production. If you are like me and can't get enough of Ballad's storytelling, they also stream live on Twitch. An excellent show all around, keep up the good work folks!

NOTE ON THIS REVIEW: I listened to two episodes at the beginning, one later on, and then spotchecked more recent episodes to test my initial thoughts. If you're looking for a fully designed experience within an actual play, this is one of the best I've heard. Their design is well thought out and immersive, and consistent throughout the entire piece. This crew has also been going for a while so they really know what they're doing in later episodes. They've ironed out the kinks, and are really in their form as performers and storytellers at this point. For me, the sound design is too much. The mixing makes the background noise overtake the vocals pretty often and I struggle to track the story. The music is often drowning out vocals as now. It made the listening experience hard for me. The background design also highlights the difference in audio recording between performers. The quality of the production makes any audio issues stand out like a sore thumb, in a way that less sound design tends to forgive. The early episodes (like so many podcasts) have audio issues early on that can make tracking the show hard, and it's hit or miss how many have been solved in more recent episodes. Some of the recordings are significantly improved which make the listening experience much more positive. However it's not a consistent increase across the whole cast. All of that being said, while I'm not sure that this podcast is my cup of tea from an actual play perspective, a lot of that is personal preference. For this style of actual play, this is absolutely at or near the top of the class, and I highly recommend trying them out.
Ballad of the Seven Dice - A Pathfinder & Call of Cthulhu PodcastThanks for the review, Ned! Unfortunately I think you checked our first two where one player had a technical issue with his mic and our latest where we had that again with a player getting a new mic,…
Brilliant and intriguing story with npcs and players that will make you laugh, cry, yell in frustration and feel the deepest compassion. Listen to the GM as he spins a tale of a divine war with mortal heroes in all shapes and sizes!
Ballad of the Seven Dice - A Pathfinder & Call of Cthulhu PodcastThank you so much for your kind words and continued support! Your art makes us inspired to make more and we are so happy you're enjoying the story!
An incredible fun pod with a great cast, well worth a listen.
Ballad of the Seven Dice - A Pathfinder & Call of Cthulhu PodcastThank you so much Steve, I hope you enjoy our wild tales to come!
Lucas has an undeniable talent as a Dungeon Master, building a combination custom world that's as ambitious and immersive as it is painstakingly detailed. The characters have deep stories, and the main plots are themselves are solid yarns that would entertain in any medium. The sound design is as densely illustrative as the art in classic rulebooks, and the whole production amounts to a grand adventure that's as much audio drama as actual play. Recommended for those who like a classic feel and strong sound design.
A D&D podcast that pulls you in from the moment it starts, and gives a whole new meaning to the "starting in a tavern" trope. Each of the prologue episodes gives you a chance to better know each character, and once they meet, the DM wastes no time throwing them right into the fray. To top it all off, the voice acting is great, and the music and sound effects bring it all together for a very polished final effect. I give the 7 Dice 5 stars!
Ballad of the Seven Dice - A Pathfinder & Call of Cthulhu PodcastWe are glad our fun start could grab you into our weird and wonderful tale! The voices are some of my favourite to do, just makes a character pop out a bit more! Thank you so much for your review!
The party who call themselves Deathshift have been recruited to help the Chosen hold off and fight back Dorem and the Church of the Shining God. Set in Faerun with homebrew elements and dark gritty encounters. Mostly in the drama/horror camp with some comedic moments. A must listen!
Ballad is the perfect blend of horror and fantasy. The Death Shift crew lead the way through laughs and vulnerable moments as they fight their way through the Forgotten Realms. Lucas' artful settings, encounters, and memorable NPCs (shout-out to Steve) paired with his remarkable storytelling make for a well-matched cast and DM. Stick around; you're not going to want to sleep on this podcast.
Ballad of the Seven Dice - A Pathfinder & Call of Cthulhu PodcastThank you for this wonderful review, Cassie! We are so happy you enjoyed our blend of goofs and horror as we delve into this long and wild tale!
This show has a different vibe when it comes to D&D APs. First off, the sound quality is solid. This show also adds a lot of production value to it. The cast has a nice feel. You can tell they've gamed for some time. Seem like a nice group. They also don't try hard to be funny. They naturally are. Maybe even a bit silly at times. What I like best about the show is that it hints at a greater mystery going on beyond what you hear in the episodes. The show sets the scene immediately by placing you in some mysterious inn, while the narrator begins. I dig that. In a sea of D&D APs, this one is worth a listen.
Ballad of the Seven Dice - A Pathfinder & Call of Cthulhu PodcastThanks for the review oboecop, we are happy to hear you're enjoying the tale! We can also promise you that it will keep on getting weirder! Happy listening!
I'm still not caught up but i wanted to add to the review i did on itunes. Recently (from when I'm listening) you very diplomatically responded to someone calling blm stupid (or something rude, not sure). And i just wanted to again say thank you for using your platform to make a difference and congrats on keeping a level head because i certainly would not have been able to. Again, love this story a lot! Very innovative beginning with an awesome resurrection mechanic that not only lets low level players not die permanently but still makes each death impactful and terrifying!

This show, is outstanding! The care in both the storytelling, and the role playing is inspirational! The chemistry around the table is so pure and inviting, it makes the listener feel like they are sitting at the table with this amazing crew!!! 10/10 would recommend to anyone!
