In this week's podcast i'll delve into the definition of committment. What does it mean for us as artists to be committment? What are we really committed too? How can commitment block us from being our best selves and focusing on the cause at hand?
By clear definition the word committment means "the state or quality of being dedicated to a cause, activity, etc." or "an engagement or obligation that restricts freedom of action." Are we really committed to being artists? To sharing creativity with the world? Letting it be bigger than who we are. Or are we committed to serving our own need for validation? Our own ego? Whilst it is important to take care of the self first and foremost. It is most important to remember that the quest we have as artists is to serve the greater good of our industry and our world by being committed to the art. The art is bigger than our ego and its important we recognise that and help reach as many people as possible. By the very same tokken, its just as important for artists not to find reasons or excuses that other committments in our life can take us away from what really gives us purpose. Underneath is a fear of not being as good as you set out to be and that is not serving you on your adventure through this life. Be free to act as you are. Be free to be who you are. Commit to that only which serves you, your freedom and creativity.
