Welcome all! In this podcast we talk about linguistic discrimination that occurs in our school systems. Given our recent political climate, the issue of "speaking English in America", once again resurfaces. Not to say that this has always been an issue written in history; the act of linguistic profiling (like racial profiling) and discrimination ties into the idea that one does not speak good english. Although we consider America a great melting pot filled with culture and diversity from different parts of the world, we also ostracize those who are not 'American enough'. With that being said we pose the question: what do you know about linguistic discrimination? We discuss multiple topics that are associated with how as students, our own dialects have impacted our studies and our relationships with teachers and how we can better our education for those who have varying dialects and accents.
