1:02

to embracing beauty beyond 50 . Let's

1:04

do this together . Well

1:08

, hey there . Welcome back to another podcast

1:10

. As you're probably aware of by

1:13

now , we have changed our

1:15

format around here . We are still

1:17

about beauty and hair and all that

1:19

, but we are really looking at beauty

1:21

beyond 50 . And

1:24

it could be 42 , but

1:26

you know who you are

1:28

. When things start changing

1:31

, your hair starts getting a little bit more

1:33

dull , it's turning gray , hormones

1:36

start kicking in , kids

1:38

start going to college , things

1:41

are happening . This is our second prime

1:43

of our life , right ? So we're going to

1:45

talk about all kinds of things , and

1:47

today I thought we would start with gray

1:50

hair . I get a lot of questions

1:53

about gray hair and let's

1:55

talk about how to wear gray hair without looking

1:57

older . I know when COVID was

1:59

around and we couldn't get to the salon

2:01

, right , a lot of you might have grown

2:03

out your gray hair . I know my sister

2:06

did , a few of my

2:08

friends did , because they couldn't get there

2:10

to get their hair touched up , and

2:13

it actually spawned a movement

2:16

, if you will , within our industry about how

2:18

to take women gray

2:21

and , believe it or not , it's a lot

2:24

harder than you might think . My sister

2:26

, after they lifted all of the restraints

2:29

with COVID , she came

2:31

to my salon and

2:33

we she had probably had three

2:35

inches of regrowth , I think , and

2:38

she was blonde before , and

2:40

so we had her . It

2:43

took about three times , but we did get her

2:45

gray gray looking . She

2:47

has since cut her hair off

2:49

but and she wears it beautifully

2:51

and she is still gray and

2:54

there's all kinds of things about going gray

2:56

. You know , finding the perfect purple shampoo

2:58

to keep the yellow out , how to

3:00

keep that tone . We'll make videos

3:03

and we will make podcasts about that as well

3:05

. I have all kinds of

3:07

information on that . But

3:09

today we're just going to talk about what causes

3:12

gray hair . What can

3:14

you do to embrace gray hair ? If

3:16

that's what you prefer to do , then

3:19

you can look forward to other podcasts

3:21

and conversations about

3:23

gray hair . And if you have any questions about

3:26

going gray or

3:28

maybe what to ask

3:31

your stylist how to ask

3:33

your stylist about going gray

3:35

reach out to me . You can go

3:38

over to my Instagram

3:40

page . I've got two of them D-Kyletts

3:42

, that's D-K-E-I-L-I-T-Z

3:45

, or Hair

3:48

by Denise , and that's hair by

3:50

Denise , spelled with an A-D-A-N-I-S-E

3:53

, and you can message me at both those

3:56

places . I get them directly

3:58

and I can answer some of your questions about

4:00

going gray . What to ask for

4:02

. You do not have to strictly

4:05

go with highlighting . You can

4:07

do gray blending . A lot of people don't

4:09

even know what that is , but I

4:11

should do a video on that . My mother-in-law

4:13

I do her hair about every six

4:15

weeks and we do gray blending

4:17

on her , and it is just a really nice

4:19

way of putting

4:22

a semi or a demi-permanent color

4:24

on and it just gradually

4:27

wears off . So you don't have that high maintenance

4:29

hard demarcation line that

4:31

you get with permanent hair color

4:33

. It doesn't cover completely

4:35

all your grays , in fact it gives more of

4:38

a blending , but it gives you just that beige

4:40

tone that really looks good

4:42

with our skin tone once it changes . Anyway

4:45

, I'm getting way ahead of myself . So

4:47

let's get back to the podcast , shall we ? Okay

4:49

? How to wear gray hair without

4:51

looking older . Yeah , gray

4:53

hair does not have to make you look old . Have

4:56

you seen these 20 and 30 year

4:58

olds sporting gray hair ? I

5:01

tell you , anyway

5:03

, there's no denying that our

5:05

hairstyle can play a

5:07

huge part in how old we look , and

5:11

you know there used to be lots of

5:13

rules dictating hair length , meaning

5:15

the older we get we had to

5:17

cut our hair short or

5:20

we definitely couldn't wear long

5:22

hair , for goodness sakes . But you know

5:24

the rules don't apply like that

5:26

anymore . We are going through

5:28

a lot of like hormonal and biological

5:31

changes in our bodies and

5:33

that does affect how our hair looks

5:35

and how it feels . Have you noticed

5:38

that it's updating your hair

5:40

? You don't have to chop it all

5:42

off , okay , and you don't have

5:44

to cover every single gray

5:47

hair that you have on your head . You

5:49

can actually embrace this change

5:52

and let your hair color

5:54

evolve over time and

5:56

just establish a gentler hair care

5:58

routine , because , really , what your goal

6:01

should be is just get

6:03

your hair looking healthy , glossy

6:05

, shiny . That's what you want

6:08

. You want to make sure it looks good on you

6:10

and with your skin tone , eye color

6:12

, all that good stuff . My biggest

6:15

thing would be just open up to

6:17

new ideas , your hair color and your cut

6:19

. If it's fresh and it's

6:21

done for your face shape

6:23

and your personal style , it's always

6:25

going to look more youthful . I know

6:28

that we tend to sometimes

6:30

hang on to what used to make us feel

6:32

pretty . Usually , when we were in

6:34

our 20s and 30s , most of us would say

6:36

, yeah , obviously my prime , I felt good

6:38

, but don't continue wearing

6:41

that hairstyle that you had when you were

6:43

in 30s or 20s . Okay

6:45

, you need a fresh hairstyle

6:47

, because if you're

6:49

still wearing that hairstyle that

6:51

you had 20 years ago , I

6:54

can probably guarantee you

6:56

it looks dated . Sorry , it's

6:59

not as hard as you might think to

7:01

go with gray hair because there's a even . I

7:04

know the Emmys were just on

7:06

there's a lot of people rocking gray

7:08

hair right now . It's not too bad

7:11

. Have you seen Helen Marin

7:13

lately ? My goodness

7:15

, she's beautiful . Anyway

7:18

, let's start with why

7:21

does your hair turn gray in the first place

7:23

? Now , there's all kinds of reasons why

7:25

, but we're just going to look at the top

7:27

five reasons , okay . Really

7:30

, the main reason it turns

7:32

gray is a decline in

7:34

melanin production . Yeah , there's actually

7:36

these things in your hair that

7:39

produce melanin . That's the color of your hair

7:41

. That depends on if you're brown

7:43

, blonde , black hair , okay

7:46

. And there's a decline

7:48

in the production of these little molecules . That's

7:50

really why your

7:52

hair color is turning gray . Scientifically

7:55

, in layman terms , we can break

7:57

it down . I could show you all the slides and all

8:00

that stuff and really give you all the chemical

8:02

names and all that . If you want that

8:04

, reach out to me . If you want

8:07

that , I'll let you know that . But most

8:09

of us just need to know that it's the melanin

8:11

in our hair that's decreasing and

8:13

that's why we're turning gray . Okay , not

8:16

much you could do about that . Number

8:18

two reason is genetics , your family

8:20

history . It strongly influences

8:23

when and how quickly you

8:26

will turn gray . If your parents or your grandparents

8:28

experienced early grain , there's a higher

8:31

likelihood that you might too

8:33

. Keep that in consideration . Number

8:35

three oxidative stress

8:37

. And what is that ? It's

8:39

like pollution or UV

8:42

rays . Yeah , it contributes

8:44

to grain over time . Number

8:46

four nutrient deficiency . If

8:49

you're not putting in the proper

8:51

vitamins in your body , it's going to

8:53

affect not only all your health but your

8:55

hair too . So a lack of essential

8:57

vitamins and minerals like B vitamins

8:59

, copper and iron , that can really

9:01

impact your hair health and it can contribute

9:04

to premature aging or grain

9:06

Aging too

9:08

, I guess . And

9:10

then there's hormonal changes . We're

9:13

all going through hormonal changes . We're at

9:15

that age , okay , but especially

9:17

, like menopause , it

9:20

can affect melanin production

9:22

and it leads to gray hair . Again

9:24

, a lot of this we can't do

9:26

much about , okay . So we can

9:28

only control what we can control

9:30

when . What is that Our mindset

9:32

, how we rock the gray

9:34

hair and what are we going to do

9:37

about it ? All right , so as for your haircut

9:39

, just simple tweaks can be that all

9:41

that's needed . Okay , you might switch

9:44

your hair care routine at home

9:46

, maybe for your hair thinning

9:49

or if you've noticed that your hair's gotten drier

9:51

after menopause , which is a thing

9:53

, unfortunately . You can do some little

9:55

minor tweaks at home for your hair care routine

9:58

, but ask your stylist

10:00

for a softer haircut and

10:02

we'll get to that in just a second . Number

10:04

one let's keep your color soft

10:07

. The key to keeping

10:09

color fresh as we age is softness

10:11

, and what do I mean by that ? You

10:14

don't want that solid root

10:16

to tip color . It's almost always

10:18

too harsh for us , okay ? And

10:20

what I mean is like if

10:22

you're doing your hair color at home and

10:25

you're doing a box color that's what we call it , box color

10:27

Usually what you find that

10:29

you're doing at home is

10:31

you're putting it on your roots , but then

10:34

you're putting it all over . I mean , I've talked

10:36

to many , many women that they put it all

10:38

over all the time because that's what the instructions

10:40

say to do . Well , those instructions

10:43

say that because

10:45

they want you to cover up

10:47

all your gray and

10:49

they don't want to hear from you saying

10:51

that , hey , it didn't cover my gray , so

10:54

they're telling you to keep

10:56

covering all your hair . Or

10:58

if it doesn't say that , and it says

11:00

just put it on the roots , typically

11:02

what happens is when

11:05

you're doing your hair color at home , you

11:07

can't see the back , so you give up and you just

11:10

like oh , screw it , I'm just going to put it all over

11:12

. What happens is , over

11:14

time , you put it layer

11:16

on top of layer on top of layer

11:19

and you come up with this very

11:21

opaque , harsh

11:23

hair color that has

11:25

no dimension whatsoever and

11:27

that's not how hair looks . Hair has

11:29

so many different , multifaceted

11:32

colors in there . Not every strand

11:35

is the same . So even if

11:37

you look at someone and they look like

11:39

they have really dark hair , if

11:41

you really get in there , their hair strands

11:43

are not all the same color . That's

11:45

a long way around saying

11:48

if you're coloring your hair at home

11:50

, you should only be doing the roots . Okay

11:53

, what I used to always suggest is , if

11:55

you're coloring your hair at home to because

11:58

of time or convenience

12:00

or money , about every third

12:02

time I would go in and have your stylist

12:05

color it for you . That way they

12:07

can look in the back and they can make sure everything's being

12:09

covered , but then also they can break

12:11

up some of those lines that you've added

12:14

in there . You

12:16

know we've all done it . So if

12:18

you are at the salon and you don't

12:20

color your hair at home , one thing

12:22

that you can ask for is to get balayage

12:24

. That is the new term for painting

12:27

hair color onto the hair . This

12:29

is a wonderful technique because

12:31

it's soft . It makes

12:34

it look very multi tonal

12:36

. It's really in right now . It's

12:38

very low maintenance . You don't really have

12:40

to worry about getting it done every

12:42

single time . Now , if you have Full

12:45

gray coming in , you might go in and get your roots

12:47

done , but then you get your balayage done

12:49

like every third time . This

12:51

skin saves time and money , because

12:54

it does cost a lot of money to to

12:56

get your hair color at a salon . If

12:59

you have a good color is a good stylist , they'll

13:01

make sure that your hair color

13:03

is kept soft . Okay , and

13:05

speaking of the multi

13:08

tonal hair color , if you see

13:10

, you know your roots growing

13:12

in . Don't panic . Actually , darker

13:14

roots right now Would make your hair

13:17

color look more modern . I know

13:19

, can you believe it ? Darker

13:21

roots , especially if they're darker than the rest

13:23

of your hair color , like if you have

13:25

gray or if you have dark blonde hair , it

13:28

actually looks very intentionally done . So

13:30

keep that in mind . Don't panic the

13:32

first time you have roots coming in . And

13:35

also bear in mind that your highlights

13:37

and your balayage they don't need to

13:39

be uniformly applied either

13:42

. Okay , gone are the times , no

13:44

, there's still out there . Highlights

13:46

, I mean where , evenly spaced , did it

13:48

at a Highlights are still

13:50

around , don't get me wrong . But this balayage

13:53

and a couple of face

13:55

framing Highlights that

13:58

don't even go all the way up to the root , actually

14:00

that's really , really beautiful right

14:02

now . I know it's a little bit different than

14:04

what we've grown up with , but it's a

14:06

beautiful and it's just . It's low

14:09

maintenance . It's easier on your

14:11

checkbook Checkbook . There

14:14

we go . Do you even carry a checkbook ? I

14:16

Carry a checkbook

14:18

, all right , it's easier on your bank balance

14:21

and you have less time in the salon

14:23

chair . So , hey , there's a lot to love , right . And some

14:25

more relaxed approach to hair color All

14:27

right . Number two I know I spent

14:29

a lot of time on that softer hair color

14:31

. It's a big thing , right ? Number

14:34

two Avoid severe cuts

14:37

. And what do I mean by that ? A

14:39

softer haircut . A softer

14:41

haircut can Instantly lift the face

14:43

and look incredibly modern

14:46

. As we get older , that means

14:48

you want softer , layered

14:50

styles . You don't really want

14:52

a blunt haircut . You know , like those blunt

14:55

bobs . Blunt Bob doesn't have any

14:57

layering and it could look really

14:59

severe . As we age , we

15:02

lose that plumpness in our face and

15:04

our face shape starts looking a little

15:06

bit more angular , and so if

15:08

you have these severe hairstyles

15:11

with angles , it could really have an aging

15:13

effect . So softer styling

15:15

and softer haircuts , lots

15:18

more layers , especially around the face , and

15:20

also work with your natural hair

15:23

texture . This can create like an

15:25

undone feel . Texture

15:27

is really in right now and

15:29

with that texture you you get . Movement

15:32

makes your hair look thicker . I know when I

15:34

wear my hair curly , my hair

15:36

does look thicker than it does

15:38

when I round brush it out . If you do

15:40

have hair like that and you want to round

15:43

, brush it out and still have full hair , don't

15:45

go overboard with the back combing and

15:47

your volumizing products , because

15:49

the last thing you want is your hair

15:52

to look like a helmet , and if you put

15:54

too much back combing or too too much Products

15:56

in there and your hair is not moving

15:59

around , it starts making your

16:01

hair look Well too done

16:03

and it also causes your

16:05

hair to become dry and brittle , and those

16:07

are two issues we already have as

16:09

we get older with our hair . So

16:11

take a break from the hot tools every

16:13

now and again too , because , as with

16:16

the over styling , it can damage

16:18

your hair , and older

16:20

hair is really more vulnerable

16:22

to breakage because it loses its elasticity

16:25

, like everything else , right , our skin , our

16:27

hair . I tell you that list just keeps getting longer

16:29

and longer . So maintaining

16:32

the healthy condition of your hair is

16:34

king and we will get to that All

16:37

right . Number three when you're at

16:39

the salon , ask your stylist

16:41

for a toner . You know I had to get it completely

16:44

all colored . You don't need a root

16:46

touch up , just ask for a toner . A couple

16:48

of reasons why Yellow tones

16:51

in the hair can look brassy

16:53

in old fashioned . And we pick up yellow

16:55

tones in our hair just by oxidation

16:58

, meaning your cuticle

17:00

is wide open , you're losing color molecules

17:03

and it turns yellow . It

17:05

could be caused by pollutants in

17:07

the air If you smoke things

17:09

like that . So whenever you're at the salon , ask

17:12

your colorist just to use a toner . It's

17:14

going to make your hair look shinier , it's going to

17:16

add depth and

17:18

it'll make your hair look brighter , healthier

17:20

and more vibrant . So if you

17:22

have yellow in your hair

17:24

and you want that tone of that cool

17:27

hair color and cool if you

17:29

think of winter tones

17:31

, meaning blue , purple

17:33

, ac , kind of that's cool , okay

17:36

in hair terms . So you would want your stylist

17:38

to use like an ash or a silver , a platinum

17:40

toner and then you would want to use

17:42

a silver or purple shampoo at

17:44

home . But sometimes

17:47

you don't need to cool down your hair

17:49

. You might need to warm it up just a little bit . It

17:52

happens all the time . Say , you've just

17:54

grown out your gray hair and it took you all this time to

17:56

grow it out and you're still not . You're like what's

17:59

wrong with it . It could be that the tone

18:01

of your gray hair is

18:03

not going with your skin tone . And

18:06

it's not like you need to add yellow to your hair

18:09

. You don't need to have golden

18:11

hair , you just need to put

18:13

like a little bit of warmth . And it's just

18:16

a toner that has just a little bit of warmth , not

18:18

too cool , not too warm . I always say a nice beige

18:21

works wonders because

18:23

it actually blends our

18:25

skin tone . It really does go with mature skin

18:28

tone a lot better , even

18:30

if you're toning your hair . Say you like

18:33

myself , I have brown hair and I use a

18:35

beige toner because I need just a hint

18:38

of warmth to that , even

18:40

though I have warm tones in my hair

18:42

. Also , keep in mind

18:44

that a deeper tone makes

18:47

your hair look shinier . So what do I mean

18:49

by that ? Brown should be rich in chocolatey

18:51

reds , and coppers should

18:53

be deep but not too bold . You don't want

18:55

it to look cartoonish . And if you're going

18:58

for gold , colors

19:00

should be sophisticated and warm . Keep

19:02

an eye out for brassiness . You don't want brassiness

19:05

? Okay , and you know what brassiness

19:07

right is right . And if not , go

19:10

watch my video on why does your hair color

19:12

turn brassy . I've got many

19:14

, many examples . Okay , all

19:18

right . Number four embrace long

19:20

hair . Yeah , I said

19:22

it right . There is no reason why

19:24

older women shouldn't have long hair . Fashion

19:27

really has no age limit and women

19:29

can look absolutely amazing

19:31

with longer lengths . The

19:33

only caveat is making sure that

19:35

your hair quality and the density

19:37

supports a longer style . What do

19:40

I mean by that ? Okay , I

19:42

love long hair , love it on me , but

19:45

my hair is getting thinner

19:47

and so when it gets to a certain

19:49

point and it just looks thin

19:51

, so I find that that collarbone

19:54

length , it's still past my shoulders . It's

19:57

not a bob , but it's right at

19:59

the collarbone . It's still long enough

20:01

to get up in a ponytail . It's long enough

20:03

to be I don't know , make me feel

20:05

like it's long hair . That's about

20:07

the right length for me

20:10

to make my hair still

20:12

feel like it's got some volume

20:14

. Keep that in mind . But

20:16

say you want long hair and

20:19

you've tried growing your hair and

20:21

it maybe it's finer , maybe it's on the

20:23

thinner side , like mine . Guess

20:25

what ? There's so many products out there

20:27

right now . Yes , you can take

20:29

supplements and it can help promote

20:31

growth and keep your hair healthy

20:34

. I know one that I used to take

20:36

is Vivis Gal . They've got one . You

20:38

could pick it up , like at Ulta , or they might

20:40

even have it at Walmart , I don't know . So

20:43

say you want to try go longer

20:45

or you just need a little bit more thickness

20:47

on the sides , like right around our ears . Ask

20:50

your stylist about tape in extensions

20:52

. Wow , they make a huge

20:55

, huge difference . Make sure they're that

20:57

your stylist certified and putting them in

20:59

it's a no commitment

21:01

. It's not going to damage your hair . It's

21:04

a wonderful way to just add

21:06

some thickness to the sides and try

21:08

on if you like longer hair . But , like

21:10

I said , if you're on the fence that

21:12

collarbone length is the perfect . In

21:14

between , get a little bit of subtle

21:17

layering in there and you can

21:19

do all kinds of things with your hair . Okay

21:21

, number five don't

21:23

assume that gray hair makes you look

21:25

older , so

21:27

gray shades can be stereotyped as aging

21:30

, but a clean looking gray is

21:32

stunning . Ask

21:35

your hair stylist for a light

21:37

, reflective shade . Okay

21:39

, if you are more on , we

21:42

call it salt and pepper . Right , salt and pepper

21:44

. You got the white , white gray

21:46

and then you've got darker grays . If you're

21:48

more of the salt side

21:51

, you might want to go for more of a white

21:53

or platinum look , meaning

21:56

you want to use like blue or ash

21:58

tones , or so you can

22:00

get more of an edgier gray . It

22:02

actually will make your hair

22:04

look a little bit bluish

22:07

, gray , purple-ish , and

22:09

that's okay . It's okay , okay

22:11

. Number six Adjust

22:14

your hair care . First of all . Healthy

22:17

hair starts at the root , so taking care

22:19

of your scalp first is going to pay off . A

22:21

poor scalp environment can lead to poor

22:23

growth cycles and the structure of

22:25

your hair is going to become thinner as a result . It's

22:28

a thing . So if you've noticed that your hair is thinning

22:30

or that your scalp feels dry , go

22:33

to your stylist . Okay , they can

22:35

recommend tailored solutions , maybe

22:37

a prescriptive hair care system

22:39

that's going to help you create fuller

22:42

, thicker hair . Go to the pros . Don't

22:44

take it in your own hands or call me . I've

22:46

been in the industry 30 years , so I

22:49

can help you . It's also important to choose

22:51

products that protect the hair against

22:53

, you know , the damaging free radicals in the

22:55

air or the sunlight

22:57

, because these all affect their hair . Have

23:00

you noticed that gray hair and aging

23:02

hair tends to be coarser too ? This

23:05

even makes like conditioning and

23:08

weekly masks even more important

23:10

. So make sure you're

23:12

using a lightweight conditioner on the ends

23:14

of your hair , and then your weekly

23:17

treatment masks will penetrate and smooth

23:19

the more porous hair cuticle , and

23:21

if you're using a quality one , they won't leave your

23:24

hair limp and heavy . Then you also

23:26

want to use styling products that

23:28

has added moisturizing ingredients

23:30

such as ceramides . That's going to elevate

23:33

your style and the condition of your

23:35

hair . You don't want to use anything too

23:37

heavy and , for goodness sakes , you don't want to use

23:39

too heavy of a hair spray . You could still use

23:41

hair spray . Okay , I love

23:44

me a good hair spray , but just don't make it a

23:46

stiff hold type

23:48

hair spray . That's really really out right

23:50

now . If your hair is not moving with you . You

23:56

know what I mean . Try to avoid overwashing

23:59

your hair , because you really want to

24:01

preserve the strength , the hydration and

24:03

the color of your hair , especially

24:05

if you live in a hardwater area

24:08

. And what this will do is it's going to give

24:10

a chance for the natural oils from

24:12

your scalp to move from your

24:14

scalp down the hair shaft . And yes , as

24:16

we get older , our scalp produces

24:18

less and less of this oil , so

24:21

it takes more and more time . So if you can

24:23

go a few days between shampooing

24:26

, that's probably the best . Plus

24:28

, who likes to wash and

24:30

dry their hair every day ? I hate getting

24:32

ready . I don't know about you

24:34

. So that wraps up

24:36

the gray hair . I thought it would be kind of fun

24:38

to go on the internet and

24:41

actually see what people are actually

24:43

asking about gray hair , and

24:45

the top questions I came up with , okay

24:48

, was is gray hair

24:50

caused by stress ? We have all

24:52

heard that , haven't we that ? People

24:54

who go gray overnight ? Now I

24:56

have heard that , and I've seen that in a

24:59

couple of my clients that something

25:01

so stressful has happened

25:03

that they seem to wake up the

25:05

next day with a patch of gray hair

25:07

. Not all their hair turns gray . There's

25:09

no way that can happen . I'm sorry that

25:11

cannot happen . Your hair

25:14

cannot gray from the bottom to

25:17

the scalp . No , because once

25:19

it grows out of the scalp , it's actually dead

25:21

. It's not alive

25:23

, so the only way that it can turn gray

25:26

is from the scalp out . Okay

25:28

, is gray hair caused by stress

25:30

? Yes , a new study

25:32

shows that stress really can give you

25:34

gray hair . Researchers found

25:37

that the body's fight or flight response

25:39

plays a key role in turning

25:41

hair gray . Your hair color is determined

25:43

by pigment producing cells called melanocytes

25:46

. While stress is often associated

25:48

with premature graying , the direct link

25:50

between stress and gray hair is not

25:53

entirely straightforward . Here's how stress

25:55

may play a role . There's three stages

25:57

of growth in hair

25:59

. Intense stress can

26:01

trigger a condition called telogen

26:04

effluvium , and that's

26:06

where the hair follicles shift from

26:08

growing phase to a resting phase

26:10

and after a few months , affected

26:13

hairs may fall out and the new ones may grow

26:15

in with less pigment , resulted

26:18

in what you may appear

26:20

sudden appearance of gray hair . But

26:23

this doesn't , doesn't happen overnight . It

26:25

happens like maybe two months

26:27

after the stressful thing

26:30

happened when you start noticing

26:32

it . Okay , so same

26:34

with if you're losing clumps of your

26:36

hair , same thing . Look back about

26:38

two months before . Did something

26:40

stressful in your life occur ? That's

26:43

probably what it's caused from . You

26:45

know , did somebody die ? Did something terrible

26:47

happen ? We don't want to

26:49

go down that road . But the

26:52

second thing about stress

26:54

oxidative stress and we kind of talked about

26:56

this . Chronic stress

26:59

can contribute to the oxidative

27:01

stress , which is just the buildup of

27:03

stress in the body , and

27:05

it can impact the melanin why

27:08

can't I say that word Melanocytes

27:12

responsible for producing melanin . So

27:15

chronic stress , and then there's hormonal

27:17

changes . So stress can influence

27:20

hormone imbalance and

27:22

hormonal changes may in turn impact

27:25

the melanin production , again

27:27

contributes premature grain of

27:29

the hair . And then inflammation

27:31

prolonged stress can

27:33

lead to inflammation throughout the body , and

27:36

I don't know about you . Inflammation it's

27:39

this chronic inflammation in the body

27:41

that causes so many things . But

27:43

it also affects the hair follicles because

27:46

it'll suffocate your hair

27:48

from growing . Not

27:51

only will it thin out the hair , but

27:53

it'll also it could squeeze

27:55

out the melanin producing cells

27:57

, which speeds up the grain process

27:59

Make sense . It's important to note

28:01

that the relationship between stress

28:04

and gray hair is complex and it's not

28:06

experienced by everybody . So

28:09

more than likely genetic factors

28:11

, lifestyle choices and overall

28:14

health play more of a role

28:16

in when you're gonna turn gray . Here's

28:18

another question that was out there Can

28:20

you reverse gray hair ? No

28:23

, there's no scientifically

28:25

proven way to reverse gray hair . No

28:29

, if somebody tells you there is run

28:32

. They're selling you snake oil . So

28:34

once hair turns gray , it

28:36

is a permanent change in the body . Now

28:39

you can slow down the

28:41

grain process , like

28:43

with supplements and managing

28:46

your stress , but

28:48

I don't think you can . Well , I

28:51

know you can't reverse the grain process

28:53

, but research is ongoing

28:55

and you know who

28:58

knows what the future is gonna bring ? Heck

29:01

, they might have something AI generated

29:03

to reverse gray

29:05

hair who knows ? But no

29:07

, as of right now , you can't reverse

29:09

it . Here's another question that was

29:11

out there what's the average age

29:14

? Most people get gray hair , everybody

29:18

. This is so widely

29:21

varied it's really really hard to

29:23

pinpoint because it's both genetic

29:25

and it's environmental . But generally

29:28

Caucasian tend to start

29:30

grain in their mid-30s , asians

29:32

in their late 30s and African-Americans

29:35

in their mid-40s . However

29:37

, these are just general trends

29:40

and many people may experience gray

29:42

hair earlier or later than average

29:44

. Again , genetics play

29:46

that significant role . So

29:49

if your parents or your grandparents experienced early

29:51

grain , there's high likelihood you're going to

29:53

as well . Look

29:56

, it's important to note that grain's just

29:58

a natural part of the aging process and one

30:00

of those things we're gonna have to accept . Right

30:03

, and it's how well we accept

30:05

it and what we're gonna do with it , whether we

30:07

wanna go gray and

30:09

just go with the flow and accept

30:11

it , or we're gonna fight it till the very end

30:13

. There's so many different ways to fight it , as

30:16

if that's your game plan . It's

30:18

my game plan . You

30:21

can gray blend , you can touch

30:23

up , you could do softer hair

30:25

color , but

30:28

just being confident in who

30:30

you are . There's no rules to the game

30:32

anymore . You can go gray or not

30:34

go gray . Nobody , nobody , should

30:36

judge you . The only person you

30:38

have to wake up to and be judged by

30:40

is yourself , that person looking

30:42

in the mirror . So enjoy the process

30:45

. If you have any questions about

30:47

gray hair how you should talk to

30:49

your hairstylist , reach out
