A native of Brooklyn, New York, Santagata joined Serling at Aqueduct Racetrack to discuss his career, including introduction to the sport, his productive time as a jockey. Santagata won his first race in 1978 before going on to win over 4,000 races in his career including 16 graded stakes and becoming the all-time leading rider at The Meadowlands racetrack.
