Charging up the show this week... Anna interviews Sally Branson Dalwood. Sally is an entrepreneur and founder of The Suite Set, a set of signature hospital bag organisers that are mindfully made to pack everything parents will need to take into the hospital to give birth.
She is a also a PR and crisis management consultant, ex-parliament and government consultant and now, after 5 years, is still settling into life as a mum… and deciding what motherhood means to her. A far cry from the male-dominated environments she was used to in her former career.
Essentially this episode is about women's identities, and how we metamorphosise from individual women to either embracing, or rejecting conventional stereotypes of what a mother is... or should be. It's a constant juggle between professional and private selves.
For mums, it can often feel like we are two very different people in the home and then busting a gut at work and being the badass biz babe we have always dreamed of. Sally has some tips on how to be both, or neither - how to be yourself!
Ego appears to be the word of the episode, and was discussed frequently when trying to assess and analyse big decisions women make in life. Have you ever considered your own ego before when reviewing decisions? Does ego get in the way and add to the challenge of swapping our push-up bras for nursing boulder-holders?
So listen as we discuss our metamorphosis into motherhood, Sally describing her descent from helicopters on to moving war vessels (yes that is actually what she used to fucking do - compare that to folding laundry in the spare room?), how much we came to rely on our mothers groups, despite being pretty opposed to joining one.
Please enjoy.
