2:04

Welcome back! Everybody.

2:07

I feel like my brain is this hodge

2:09

podge round pick now. So we were. Gone

2:12

last week to the podcast conference and.

2:15

That an overwhelming amount of information, which we can

2:17

talk about a few minutes, but I actually have

2:19

a little bit of housekeeping to do first that.

2:21

Came out of that conference and I know

2:24

that's unusual, but. Just

2:26

saw our listeners know an

2:28

Apple changed it's algorithm back

2:30

in October. Which we didn't find

2:32

out about until just three weeks. Ago

2:34

And basically they updated

2:36

a protocol. Which I mean

2:38

this and when he gets to technical

2:41

here. but it changed how auto download

2:43

works so far. listeners if you weren't

2:45

listening as much during the holidays which

2:47

I would. Think would be

2:49

possible an apple automatically stopped.

2:52

Auto downloading even though you. We.

2:55

Were on your list. They stopped it looked on

2:57

side they paused. It is what they call

2:59

and then when you started listening again they

3:01

turned it back on. But that means there

3:03

could be a lot of episodes that you

3:05

assumed were downloaded that weren't. I just wanted

3:07

to alert you there might be several shows

3:10

you missed and so we just wanted to

3:12

let you know that you actually have to

3:14

go in and read download them. In

3:16

order to have them back on your device, Apple

3:18

said they did this to save. Space on

3:20

I phones which I thought had pretty

3:22

much incentive amounts of stadium of kind

3:24

of silly face of it. Anyway, we

3:26

can't tell Apple what to do, so

3:28

we're just suggesting to our listeners that

3:30

you might wanna check that. We

3:33

also got a lot of stats and information

3:35

all over the place about podcasting and. See.

3:37

What the things that really stood out for me? One

3:40

is there was a lot of. Focus.

3:43

And suggestions for pot casters to

3:45

create a community. To

3:47

say like I feel like we have a

3:49

great community. Everyone here right

3:52

now is focused on mindfulness and

3:54

I think wanting to me to

3:56

make themselves better. Make the world

3:59

better and. That kind of blessed that I

4:01

think we already have that we. Could certainly do

4:03

more. We will, but. I wanted to

4:05

say thank you to all of our listeners because I

4:08

know when I step into the space. I

4:10

immediately have a sense of calm

4:12

and community. I want to say thank

4:14

you as well because. I know that

4:16

your time is very valuable. We all have

4:19

very little of that rice, so I really

4:21

do appreciate. All of you taking

4:23

the time out of your busy days

4:25

and just trying to better yourself. And

4:28

support as you know will really

4:30

really really love your supper and

4:32

we're just happy with yourself. Think

4:34

it's. So funny. I'm

4:36

while we were at this conference. And

4:38

I am going to have several topics over the next few

4:40

weeks that came out of conference. I think that's.

4:43

One. Of the things that struck me while

4:45

we were there and. Since. I'm

4:47

and I feel like I have not

4:49

caught up from been gone a week

4:51

but I definitely had. A. Continuous

4:54

feeling of overwhelmed. And

4:56

and. You. Know made me think of all

4:58

of our listeners. I know. Many of them have this

5:00

just because. Life is so chaotic

5:03

I had to really fight resisting

5:05

the structure of the conference. And.

5:08

Remind myself he was. Not a conference on

5:10

mindfulness. it was a conference on podcast

5:12

price of some Just to kind of

5:14

describe it, it took place at a

5:16

very large hotel. In Downtown L A. And

5:19

the sessions were fifteen minutes long or

5:21

thirty minutes long and then you had

5:23

to race to the next. One case

5:25

of first you're racing through the section

5:28

is what felt like trying to capture

5:30

the information and everything went very quickly

5:32

and then you had you know very

5:34

little time. To race in in

5:36

linked of a football field, Or to go

5:38

up a gigantic escalator to get to another

5:40

level and then pop your rear and back

5:43

in another seat. And do it again

5:45

And that went on from nine in the

5:47

morning till five in the evening every day

5:49

to come out. How to to see like speed

5:51

dating The Nemesis? Yes, play and stuff. Come

5:53

across. Yeah and then

5:55

you'd i I gave up. I think I day

5:58

to of trying to take notes because. Couldn't

6:00

even read them. I was trying. To write So fat.

6:02

So I just started. Taking snapshots of the

6:04

powerpoints he of thinking all remember.

6:07

This. Will pop my memory. Now.

6:09

I feel like I just have this giant. Mountain of pictures

6:11

and notes that makes no sense

6:13

whatsoever. Their contacts. Resisting

6:15

how something is working that you can control

6:18

is new, not very mindful and I kept

6:20

asking myself like, why are they doing it

6:22

this way why don't they make the sessions

6:24

longer So I had a really practice my

6:26

mindfulness skills to get through the conference and

6:29

now I'll have to block off a huge

6:31

amount of time to make sense out of

6:33

all the information. but. I thought it

6:35

was a good experience. Overall, lot of good

6:37

information, but. The. Overwhelmed thing

6:39

really bothered me because I try

6:41

really hard not to be in

6:43

that state. I. Have kind

6:46

of a different angle for the whole thing because

6:48

ah, for those of you just don't know, I

6:51

do. All. Of the back and

6:53

for the podcast and there's so much that

6:55

I don't understand, just have to be on

6:57

as the sake. Of. Asked

6:59

me what in Rss feed actually means.

7:01

And. I probably couldn't tell you I would have

7:03

to look it up and do some homework on

7:06

it. I really just stick the information online and

7:08

just pray to the gods. That goes through.

7:10

it says steps and so I

7:12

was very overwhelmed to because you

7:15

know there's so much. Information.

7:17

On how to promote the podcast on social media,

7:20

How to do it on you tube How to

7:22

do. You. Know all

7:24

of this, These editing software. Is

7:26

where it's I got. It's just so much

7:28

stuff that's trying to like, narrow your focus

7:30

down and to actually what really matters. It

7:33

was difficult. it was a long week. I

7:35

mean, I really did walk away from a

7:37

feeling a lot. More inspired I

7:39

guess, and motivated to. Really.

7:42

keep. Giving. You guys

7:44

Wonderful content. Ah, so that

7:46

was the good part about it, but I definitely

7:48

my brain as sake. Stick it

7:50

in the box right now because it's so

7:53

months. I really. Don't have the capacity

7:55

to go through every thanks I've been doing

7:57

it this past week that I have probably

7:59

twenty. Note from the conference. Full

8:02

page, you know, end and and it's

8:04

just it's a lot. When. I

8:06

think through our daily workings habits and

8:08

I'm talking about all of us, not

8:10

just me, I really constantly

8:13

encourage people to monotask. And to

8:15

stay focused and you'll you'll be more efficient and

8:17

more effective. And. It's are mindful way to work.

8:20

But. In reality, In a

8:22

few pics for, like many of our

8:24

clients work in hospitals, it's a chaotic

8:26

environment. It really takes very strong mindfulness

8:28

skills. To stay focused in the midst of

8:30

us, think chaos and. Few. Just noticed

8:32

that you're. You're feeling

8:35

overwhelmed or. Data. Overload. That's

8:37

the time maybe to take a

8:39

pause, take a few deep breaths,

8:41

do a meditation. something to help

8:43

you get re centered. Because I

8:45

noticed all. Week, it just got worse every

8:47

day. He only mean because there wasn't a

8:49

break and so you'll make sure you do.

8:51

Take that break and take care. Of yourself

8:53

because your brain can only handle. So.

8:56

Much at a time. I actually wrote

8:58

a blog this week for our other

9:00

company and it was about how. Is.

9:02

He nests. And. Actually hot

9:04

fun activity. And that.

9:08

We. Get so wrapped up and like our day to

9:10

day and you know we all have goals and we

9:12

I'm sure many of us have our. Smart goes up

9:14

on a board or we have our vision part. All.

9:16

Of these things where we have these

9:18

great aspirations. For. What happens is

9:20

that we get so caught up

9:22

with the kids home life workplace.

9:24

so so that all of the

9:26

sad that it's like a fleeting

9:28

moment that we see those goals

9:30

right and we get kind is

9:33

pulled away from them. And.

9:35

I think that if we start to understand

9:37

that. Busy Ness does

9:39

not equal success. That Busy

9:41

Ness does not equal productivity.

9:44

Then maybe if we can start to.

9:47

Prioritize, And get ourselves. In

9:49

a more balanced state then when these

9:51

bit opportunities arise or when these goals

9:53

really do present themselves as now's the

9:55

moment to take advantage of it, were

9:57

in a more prepared say. In

10:00

that, oh, I don't have time right now we're actually

10:02

in that balance state worth like you know I could

10:04

take that on right now. Is

10:06

this can work for me? Because we're. More

10:08

balanced for having that more mindful experience

10:11

of our everyday life where it's not.

10:13

All. Of these different balls being shackled at the same

10:15

time. Like. Times I can

10:18

largely. Control The. Chaos That but

10:20

I could not control anything specific. That

10:22

and I felt like I was exhausted.

10:24

By Friday evening, it was crazy smaller.

10:26

Not only the business of the third convention,

10:29

but it's like we have another job to

10:31

do just that. Had to be on hold

10:33

for a full week and now we get

10:35

back and it's catching up with All About.

10:38

Implementing all the information. We just learned. You

10:40

know, lot of people tell me they need to work

10:42

twice as hard before they take a vacation. And

10:44

then they're so slammed when they get back to that it

10:47

feels. Overwhelming And them I'm usually

10:49

right on top of all of my.

10:51

Communications right, whatever form and. My

10:54

email was so overwhelming it took me like

10:57

three days I think with Wednesday afternoon before

10:59

I caught. Up. With everything that had happened

11:01

in the prior week. But

11:03

I do want to talk about something in the news.

11:05

I came across something yesterday that really struck me and

11:08

it's the Solar Eclipse. And course by

11:10

the time this errors. That the eclipse will

11:12

have passed. But what? Struck me was an

11:14

article I read describing what happens to us

11:16

the way we see. Also, there's a lot

11:18

of excitement. right? Before an eclipse.

11:21

And people are traveling to get to

11:23

the but at the path of totality.

11:25

In order to see it for tells her

11:27

oh my gosh Jacking up the prices. Really?

11:30

Just Leon, how are ya? I read

11:32

Motel Six one of them are normally charges

11:34

and ninety four night know charging nine

11:36

hundred and sixty four nights. The. Ritz

11:38

Carlton I believe it's the Ritz Carlton and

11:40

Dallas. It's normally like three thousand something dollars

11:42

to stay. There are three nights and everybody's

11:45

books. they're all making people book three nights

11:47

by to So the day before the eclipse.

11:49

The eclipse that after. It's. Up

11:51

to seven or nine thousand dollars. for the

11:53

three nights. so it's like. Okay, There's a Ton.

11:55

Of obvious excitement to see the eclipse and

11:57

and up mean I think they're cool but

11:59

like what is this about different front of

12:01

me looking at this. And

12:03

it turns out there's this huge

12:05

psychological effect. And when I

12:07

started reading about it, I'm like oh

12:09

my gosh, that's mindful and I would

12:11

have never associated he abusing one as

12:13

being a mind for act. So that

12:15

got me thinking, has it's gonna be

12:17

visible to thirty two million people. And

12:20

I don't know how many will are you know traveling to

12:22

go see it? We can. We're not going to see probably

12:24

anything here in California. Is still millions? Maybe

12:26

tens of millions of people will all be doing

12:28

the same thing at the same time. A clinical

12:30

psychologist named Jeff. Cartier wrote this article

12:33

or contributed to it about how

12:35

and eclipse brings us to the

12:37

present moment. This is what caught

12:39

my attention of mindfulness. so. When.

12:42

It's an eclipse is happening for those

12:44

three or four minutes. We are

12:46

completely collectively focused on the very same

12:48

thing in them barry moment it's happening,

12:51

which is really a rarity for these

12:53

dates. right? Three or four minutes focused

12:55

on one thing with more than one

12:57

person? Doesn't happen a lot. so

13:00

that's the first piece. We're in the present

13:02

moment. Much. I mean, if kind of sad

13:04

that it's this hard to get into the

13:06

present moment, but we're in the present moment.

13:08

then. the second thing is is that we.

13:11

Feel. Connected. With. Other

13:13

people, I mean really feel. It like out of

13:15

Israel level. How often are we connected to

13:17

millions of people? That. Were aware of

13:19

of right, were connected all the time. but we're not

13:22

aware of that, right? And then when

13:24

we are in this state

13:26

right viewing the eclipse, our

13:28

brain absolutely releases stress hormones.

13:31

Which I found interesting center think what? the. Paper.

13:34

Relaxing, but them sir enough. If you think about

13:36

it, it's really kind of exciting news. But.

13:38

It also. Triggers. This buried

13:40

deep? Maybe little fear losing the sun

13:42

is kind of apocalyptic or you I

13:45

mean I can even picks are are

13:47

amygdala our egos going? What is it

13:49

Coming back. You what? it means that there's

13:51

a little fear in there. So that's part

13:53

of why does stress hormones or kicked in?

13:55

It's like we're excited, fascinated and we're still

13:57

a little bit scared. and then he also

13:59

trigger. Have. A

14:02

Professor which I have never heard

14:04

that term before, but it's a

14:06

sociological concept that describes a state

14:08

of intense, shared. Emotional activation.

14:11

So. So new that all the stuff happens just. New

14:13

York for three or four minutes and a bigger

14:15

boxing and eclipse the. Other thing it does

14:18

add a subconscious or conscious level is

14:20

it really expands. are thinking that we

14:22

go outside of ourselves so instead of

14:24

ruminating, are fretting about all. The. Little things

14:26

in our own lives were getting. This is a

14:28

call an emotional sensations that's really

14:30

related to. ah. Ah

14:33

into. right? In that sense

14:35

of ah, that big. Sort of universal

14:37

energy that we're all a part of,

14:39

but we don't seek. Out enough

14:41

and that's the last piece

14:43

of basically we've got presence

14:45

connection. Ah, The. Intensity.

14:48

Of excitement and a little bit of

14:51

fear all together while thinking about the

14:53

bigger picture. On that checks every

14:55

box. Michael basically saying

14:57

we need a lot more eclipsed as.

15:01

Well as the that was if we could

15:03

control that. Yes, But what we could do

15:05

is who seek. Out more are in our

15:07

lives. So I think that's what

15:09

I'll do. The see guided meditation on

15:11

next week is. How do We

15:13

stop? And remember to find the are

15:16

in life because it has a huge.

15:18

Physiological, emotional and mental effect

15:20

on us when we do.

15:23

Yeah. We actually have an interview to and

15:25

I can't remember who he interviewed all about.

15:27

Ah yes, the mining that are in life

15:29

and what's that can do for you. And

15:31

it's interesting cause I don't know why I

15:33

thought of this when you were talking about

15:35

everybody being in the present moment together at

15:37

the same time. Yeah. I'm

15:40

wondering I'm not a very like. Patriotic

15:42

percent and just that's just who I am.

15:44

I'm not, but every. Time I go to

15:46

an event and it's the Star Spangled Banner

15:48

Eyed Guy. Pure. I don't I don't know

15:50

why I'm not patriotic at all, but it

15:52

just makes me. It's just kinda hits me

15:54

and I have a feeling it's probably because

15:56

of that because everybody is in that moment.

15:58

Focus on that one thing the and it

16:01

just. Kind of gets that little lump in

16:03

your throat where you can you feel at

16:05

the no interest. There. Any time

16:07

we're doing anything collectively. Emotions

16:10

are contagious in your example. Maybe

16:12

you don't feel patriotic, but it's

16:14

the same concept you're surrounded by.

16:16

People who may. Or

16:18

is just the idea of you're all

16:21

doing something in sync just like when.

16:23

Soldiers march all the time. The reason.

16:25

For that is to get them mentally st you're

16:27

doing the same thing when you're. You

16:29

know, singing The Star Spangled. Banner when you're out

16:31

a concerts. I do this at concerts and

16:33

it's crazy. You know some popular song will

16:35

come up and ready singing together. Right

16:38

is any could be just some silly pop song

16:40

and you get that same feeling like you want

16:42

to cross. It's and I don't think it's about

16:44

the. Pop. Song or The Star Spangled.

16:46

Banner. It is about. That

16:48

feeling of connectedness and belonging.

16:50

And. Cohesion it as

16:52

humans that we don't have enough

16:55

anymore. It's interesting that.

16:57

So infrequently are we

17:00

focus on. That

17:02

which is so much. Bigger than us,

17:04

right? And so something like

17:06

a klutz, Something like star gazing.

17:08

Even people that are watching you

17:10

know the space access. It's

17:13

forgetting all of the noise. And.

17:15

Really focusing on that bigger. Thing outside

17:17

of all of us that that really is

17:20

how we are all connected, right? and rather,

17:22

you, you know, our religious or not. I

17:24

do believe that there is something much bigger

17:26

that connects all of us and I think

17:29

that's a reminder in a pool. This out

17:31

of the the yeah and just puts

17:33

us in that moment As like you

17:35

said, ah. There's. Been a

17:37

lot written about over the last hundred. Years.

17:40

There's just as continuous decline

17:42

in religious practices people going

17:44

to church, Or. Synagogue or

17:46

whatever it is. But. It's.

17:48

Not even in that case. I mean,

17:50

for certain you're thinking more about something

17:53

outside yourself from Europe participating. In that.

17:55

but the bigger problem is that sense

17:57

of community. I think it is

17:59

import. Get a lot of evidence

18:01

about. How meditating as a

18:04

group. Is. Actually, more

18:06

powerful than meditating alone, and so

18:08

I think that's something maybe we

18:10

could think about over the next

18:12

few weeks. In. Light of

18:14

this divisiveness that is happening in

18:16

this country that. Is so terrible

18:18

and what that means. For.

18:21

Or. Maybe. In a way to

18:23

bring people together with differing outlook on life,

18:26

can we focus the other on the commonalities?

18:28

the things that we can agree on for

18:30

a change but as a group and see

18:32

if we can get that sort of energy

18:34

going, where we feel at where we get

18:36

that little. Blood. Or have

18:38

a hard or that little. Thing. In

18:40

the throat that makes us want to almost

18:42

want to tear up. And so I'm that.

18:45

think about that offered at least the next

18:47

week as I kind. Of observe what's going

18:49

on with people around me. And.

18:51

Look for opportunities at may be doing

18:53

more things as a group. It's almost

18:55

Hollywood Bowl season. Now it's like

18:57

the fourth year I think in a row that

19:00

instead of going with just one person or by

19:02

myself. It's. A group of friends and and

19:04

we get all excited and start planning way ahead

19:06

of time And now I'm starting to feel like

19:08

even in advance of the events, I. Can

19:11

feel that connectedness? It in that tradition

19:13

of getting together with the same group

19:15

of people. But it made me think

19:17

of this to it's like a we need. We.

19:19

Need a lot of community. We need little

19:21

groups of community. We need big groups of

19:24

community. And one of things that they

19:26

come up at the conference was. Facebook.

19:28

Groups which he I've sort of written

19:30

off all social media for a long

19:32

time. And I thought, well maybe that is a

19:35

place we. Can open up a shared space.

19:37

For. Our mindfulness community to be

19:39

able to share. I belonged to

19:41

to mindfulness communities. Outside of us.

19:44

One is the com monkey. Or

19:46

which is where I get my certification and

19:48

it's international and we come together once a

19:51

quarter and even once a quarter it is.

19:53

It is this same kind of space where

19:55

it will not only gonna have a mindful

19:57

conversation but. There is no rhetoric.

19:59

There is no arguing that there

20:01

could be different perspectives. But

20:03

it's just this peaceful, calming space.

20:06

We do a group meditation together.

20:08

Everyone's on the same pace and

20:10

like that's just lovely. And then

20:12

the other one is the mindful

20:14

Global Society Institute. But once you

20:16

go into those spaces, It's

20:19

that that feeling of this is a

20:21

community and we all seem to understand

20:23

this sort. quote rules. There is no.

20:26

No. Debate: No ego, no arguing. Know.

20:28

None of the stuff that we deal with all the

20:30

time and rather lie so. If. You

20:32

have any ideas about that? we would love

20:34

to hear from you. I'm flag be happy

20:36

to set it up and facilitator. Just

20:38

open it up to anyone. Who wants to

20:41

participate? And. It.

20:43

There are any other things you can think of that you

20:45

would. Like to see to support you

20:47

in your journey. Into and

20:49

through mindfulness on we want to hear

20:51

about it because we really do want

20:53

this community the grow. I don't

20:56

know how many of you have ever done

20:58

a group meditation. But it

21:00

is. I will say life changing

21:02

but it really does just get you

21:04

deep down into your soul, whether it

21:06

is a silent meditation or if it's

21:09

guided. Whatever it is to set collective

21:11

energy because I think sometimes we need

21:13

to be remind them. That. Is

21:15

so great. People out there there really aren't as

21:18

a lot of you guys out there and we

21:20

need a little reminder. Once in awhile,

21:22

because we're so confronted with negativity

21:24

and. I would also like to say that if

21:26

we do I think we should. We will start that

21:28

face. Group more heavily give you the link

21:31

to it on our next episode. Bet. I

21:33

would love to hear also what you guys want

21:36

to hear about on the podcast. I think that

21:38

if there's something that we're not touching nine and

21:40

you want to hear about it, tell us we

21:42

are open. We love to hear from up everybody

21:45

about all of their stuff that going on if

21:47

they have some challenges with mindfulness, if they have.

21:49

You. Know maybe some events that are bothering them and

21:52

we can talk at all. Were happy to do that.

21:54

So. I would love to hear from everyone. Is.

21:56

That such a good point. I actually felt

21:59

really good yesterday. The. How it

22:01

a little nervous about a workshop I had to do

22:03

yesterday? And in number one because it's

22:05

on one of the most difficult topics, which.

22:07

Is implicit bias and cultural

22:09

sensitivity. And it was. A

22:11

group of people if you split the group

22:13

in half. Half did not know the

22:15

other half basically so they worse. There were a lot

22:18

of strangers in the room. And

22:20

it was quite the array

22:22

of and demographics so I

22:24

had as young as eighteen

22:26

year old that are homeless

22:28

up to adult professionals that

22:30

provide services. And sounds like

22:32

harder to such a mix and I don't

22:35

know if they're going to respond to this.

22:37

We didn't do a full on meditation, but

22:39

we did a couple of mindful breathing activities

22:41

and I was absolutely. Just heartened.

22:44

That. All of them. I know

22:46

some of these people have never heard of

22:48

the stuff we teach, but they all participated.

22:50

They all were nodding their heads that they

22:52

felt calmer and batter. We did it in

22:55

between breathing exercises because I was saying a

22:57

lot of very triggering things about racism. And

22:59

discrimination. and you don't all the stuff that

23:02

we don't talk about any more any in

23:04

the real world. They just really responded beautifully

23:06

and it reminded me again have that power

23:08

of the group because if I'd been doing

23:10

it one on one. I bet I would

23:12

not have gotten that same. Reaction.

23:14

From some of the folks, but. Because it

23:16

was a group and they could feel it they

23:19

all participated in. I think they benefited from. It

23:21

so. Thanks. For pointing that out

23:23

about the group because I think it

23:25

is powerful. Oh yeah, positive energy is

23:27

palpable. Sell. the more you can be around

23:29

the better. I think we have

23:31

a lot of content coming up, but I may

23:34

be. The first thing will focus on in the coming

23:36

week is getting that Facebook group set up and then

23:38

we can we hear from you. Absolutely. And

23:40

I also want to point out that. We are trying

23:42

to really grow. Are you to? presence?

23:44

And so if you currently only listen to

23:47

us on the podcast, ah, we would love

23:49

for you to come over and see our

23:51

faces on our You Tube channel and we're

23:53

trying to build up that subscriber. Base so

23:55

he can get a little bit more

23:57

support from our community. And were it's.

24:00

That about it so up deceive over there.

24:02

Plus. I hope you have

24:04

a lovely. Week. If you

24:07

view the eclipse I hope it was.

24:09

Exciting and worth it and I look forward

24:11

to seeing you back here next week! And

24:14

Juri one. Thank. You. This.
