Tobias Jonathan Ansell Wolff III is an author of short stories, memoirs, and novels. He also teaches creative writing. He is best known for his memoirs, particularly "This Boy's Life," which was published in 1989, and "In Pharaoh's Army," which was published in 1994. He has also been the editor of "Best American Short Stories" and "The Vintage Book of Contemporary American Short Stories."Wolff's work appears regularly in The New Yorker, The Atlantic, Harper’s, and other magazines and literary journals. He has written four short story collections and two novels, including "The Barracks Thief," which was published in 1984 and won the PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction.Wolff won three O. Henry Awards (1980, 1981, and 1985) and received a National Medal of Arts in 2015.Wolff began teaching at Syracuse University in 1982, and, since 1997, he has taught at Stanford University.Wolff received his B.A. from Oxford University and his M.A. from Stanford University.
