Nilesh Kalyanaraman, MD, FACP, serves as the DeputySecretary of Public Health Services, at the MarylandDepartment of Health (MDH).Dr. Nilesh Kalyanaraman is a leader in improving healthoutcomes by developing innovative collaborationsacross health care, public health, and communities.Most recently he served as the Health Officer in AnneArundel County from 2019 to 2023 and led the countythrough its Covid response, the establishment of a gunviolence intervention team and the development ofcommunity led health outreach to advance healthequity.For over a decade prior, he has held leadership positionsat Federally Qualified Health Centers including HealthCare for the Homeless in Baltimore and Unity Health Carein Washington, DC. He has led care transformation tointegrate social determinants of health into clinical care,implement innovative reimbursement models, andincrease access to underserved populations.He received a Doctor of Medicine from SUNY DownstateHealth Science University in Brooklyn, NY and was a AAASScience and Technology Policy fellow at the NationalInstitutes of Health.
