Wife of Crime -No spoilers! This is a podcast review I’ve been dying to do for months. I’ve never seen an independent podcast blow up so fast and everyone I’ve shown it to says it is their new favorite show (that’s not an exaggeration!). Even die-hard Crime Junkie fanatics (I tell absolutely everyone about Crime Junkie’s plagiarism) have said they like it even more than that show. The angle is simple...a wife telling her husband criminal cases but the culture and presence of the pod is one you have to experience. Jess (wife) is the crime buff. She’s witty, endearing and engaging all wrapped up into one. As for her husband...he might not be the most well-versed in true crime but is essential to the charm of the show. His lighthearted humor and commentary keeps the dark, intense topics manageable and the pace steady. Together they make for one of the best and most unique true crime podcasts one can find. Itunes has a solid 5-star rating and 294 written reviews. New episodes come out weekly but have gotten a little more sporadic with the pandemic (as to be expected!). Average length is about an hour with over 43 episodes ready to binge. Owltail has the top episodes as The Disappearance of Amy Lynn Bradley and STALKED- The murder of Dorothy Jane Scott. My favorites (and idk how they’re not the top) are most definitely: Not me, Not Today!- The survival of Alison Botha and Predator Pt. 1- Israel Keyes. Alison Botha’s story is so intense that when I recapped it for my big football player of a boyfriend, he had to go lay down for a bit. Please take care when listening! That being said Jess does an amazing job of getting the gravity of the crimes discussed across without having to include the graphic, gory, and unnecessary details. This is an unscripted and unedited podcast as mentioned in their intro. Perfect for people who do not prefer to listen to single hosts reading from a script. Theme song is expertly crafted so much so you might think it’s been formed over seasons of iterations however it’s been the same since its recent beginning. Different trigger warnings for every episode but the show notes are great at previewing those without giving away any spoilers. I can’t recommend this pod enough. If you haven’t listened, you must! If you have please be sure to go submit a loving review.
