RATING
Video Palace deftly weaves a tale of mystery, fear and horror. Each episode takes you further into the realm of otherworldly terror with excellent acting, scripts and production.
Well made investigative fiction, that sends a chill down your spine. Once I started listening, I couldn´t stop. If you like Tanis and The Black Tapes, you will love this.
4/5. Short and absolutely chilling. Though I wanted to throw my phone out of the window after the last episode, I think the ending was perfect in its own twisted way. Definitely want to purchase the companion book now as well!
An excellently scary podcast, recommended for Halloween. If you like Tanis and Black Tapes, this is for you!
Being a reformed VHS collecting fanatic myself and horror fan, it was an obvious choice to listen to Video Palace from Shudder. The chemistry between the two leads is excellent with solid acting throughout the ten episodes. The entire production features quality sound design (Jeremy Lee) and scoring (Michael Teoli). Recording was done at Iceman Audio with post work done at Diablo Sound. They wanted to keep the sound natural and utilized a Zoom H4N, a popular tool for podcasters. This series hits all of the geek buttons for me and tells an interesting story along the way. Highly recommended for horror fans, tape collectors, people who get nostalgic about VHS, and those looking for entertaining fiction podcasts.
Wish we could explore more of the Video Palace universe.
What a super-creepy, well-made podcast. I really enjoyed the whole arc of the story and made sure I was in a very safe space when I listened to the finale. Would love to see the story keep going but I also understand that it works quite well as-is.
A good, short horror series. The ending of ep 6 got me especially! Maybe not the scariest show out there, but the atmosphere is good and the mystery keeps you engaged. Would love a second season.
This was recommended by the creator of the Parkdale Haunt podcast. I really liked it. I'm going to find the companion book for it now, before listening to the bonus episodes.
I can't say enough good about this podcast. Mark was so likeable, even when he was infuriating in his "chase for the truth." I recommend this at least once a week because the story was fun as hell and had me going.
Video Palace is an exceptionally well made found footage audio drama about a video collector who gets tangled up in a web of mysteries surrounding white VHS tapes.
Really spooky and un-put-downable podcast
A pretty great mystery that just doesn't quite stick the landing.
This was an interesting single arc spooky sort of.... sci-fi I guess? It was a comfortable easy listen and really enjoyable if you're looking for something quick.
Mark Cambria becomes aware of a collection of almost mythical white tapes and embarks on a quest to collect them and understood their purpose and origin. In doing so he places himself and those close to him in serious danger. With shades of The Ring, Video Palace is a captivating insight into the perils of human curiosity.Quite simply, Video Palace is my favourite audio fiction of all time. The show is so well produced, with excellent sounds design, a well-written script containing natural-sounding dialogue, an engaging and intriguing plot and magnificent voice acting. It looks as if it is a one-off series as, several years after the first batch of episodes, there has been no sign or mention of more content. Part of me is disappointed because the finale ends on something of a cliffhanger and I would enjoy listening to more quality content. However, upon further reflection, it does work as a limited run series and perhaps it is better being left wanting more. It could be the case that prolonging the premise would only do the show a disservice and cause a decline in quality (looking at you, Limetown), in which case I'll simply be grateful for experiencing Video Palace for what it is.I cannot recommend this show highly enough; if you like good audio fiction, particularly eerie tales and investigative characters, you should definitely give Video Palace a listen.
A well-produced descent into obsession. The ending is abrupt and many questions are unanswered.
Didn't really hook me. I was going to stop, but it was only 10 episodes, so finished it anyway. Wasn't bad, just wasn't great either. Never really left me excited for the next one.
Why oh why did this not continue? It was so good!
This podcast was a little rough, but that just made me feel really strong "video" vibes, which really helped. Not sure if I gelled with the conclusion - would be interested in seeing more :)
On episode 3.Reminds me of early Tanis or White Tapes. Maybe Rabbits. Pretty good so far.
