RATING
The unnamed protagonist is out to search for his cat. But the lengths he must go and the secrets he will uncover are quite, quite unusual. There is a gentle comedy in the narrator’s singleminded focus on his cat. Lovecraftian sensibilities feature significantly - all dark clouds and unspeakable monsters in the heart of the earth - but are tempered by good humour. “Horror” doesn’t quite cover it, but neither does “comedy”. Each episode also features lengthy musical interludes - your mileage may vary, but they disrupt the flow for me. Still, The Lost Cat is terribly enjoyable and I tore through the archive very quickly.
First season, while unconnected, was eerie and interesting to listen to. Second was kinda hard to follow, and third was unremarkable. Fourth was pretty cool though.
MEOW MEOW MEOWTASTIC!!!!!!
A strange and wondrous series of tales. Sometimes with original songs that lure you down the rabbi thole and you wake with a start and wonder ... where am i?
Funny, strange, wistful, and often philosophical, I love The Lost Cat. Absolutely charming.
Seasons 1 and 3 are episodic, while seasons 2 and 4 are serial stories. The seasons don't build off each other in terms of plot continuity; there's a change in season 2 and season 3 is right back to the status quo. It's somewhat derivative of Night Vale - openly so, having a song in the middle of an episode, though unlike Night Vale, all the songs are written and performed by Clarke. My favorite seasons are season 1 and season 4, though the most memorable episode for me is the explosion episode in the third season. The monsters are looked at through an empathetic lens and the body horror is descriptive. Also, cats!
Oh man, I’m really loving this podcast. It has all the characteristics of art I love: clever, original, weird, and a little dark, with a dash of the paranormal/supernatural. The voice acting is great, and I love that drinking wine means a song. Each song I’ve heard so far has been good, too. This is definitely on my list of favorites.
