We've all heard the post apocalyptic trope before. CWTW puts a new and unique twist on this. And it is so well done. Definitely one of the best newer podcasts out right now.
This show is amazing. Season 1 just wrapped up and you need to get this on your playlist now. Josh the creator is someone I have gotten to know well. His vision and drive are unmatched. He is a true renaissance man doing all the writing, editing, and music creation all on his own. From start to finish this season has been a treat, and I can not wait to hear where it goes next. Please get this amazing show in your ears today!
The sort of raw, unpolished voices, the sound design and clever use of original music gives this show a quite distinctive and unique tone unlike any other. Maybe the story itself is heard similar before, but the way it´s told makes it really exiting and totally worth a listen.
Awesome new audio drama! loved everything about it. Great story and characters especially.
Please, for the love of the Council, stop what you are doing and listen to this show. To the writing, the VA work, the sound production, the chill-inducing music custom written by the show's creator, Josh Monroe.... this is an experience.
"Almost only counts in horseshoes, grenades and podcasts" ?????Note: This was written in 2018 and posted on the audiodrama subredditThere have only been 3 episodes of "City within the Walls" but the podcasters requested reviews, so who am I to refuse😉"City within the Walls" is like Attack on Titan. Both are about what happens when the remains of humanity, after a cataclysmic event, live in a city shielded by walls. However, "City within the Walls" is more focused on the society, politics, and people after several generations have lived within the walls.Mark Twain once said "Writing is easy. All you have to do is cross out the wrong words." Though there is much to admire about the podcast they really haven't crossed out all the "wrong words".For example, the music is quite good but, as in ep2, its playing as loud as the dialog. It made it hard to appreciate either. Please note, with the >60 crowd, we do not hear the higher frequencies so dialog is sometimes harder to hear.I also do not think the dialog or the voice actors served each other well. For example, there was too much exposition dialog between father and son actors where there isn't much chemistry between the actors. There wasn't enough dialog between Tharin and Aleen who seem to bring out the best in each other.I think Tharins father and the leader of the Theosin should have more dialog together. I think the Dudley do right personality of the father would have great chemistry with the cynicism of the leader of Theosin. It would make the dialog seem less like exposition and more like dialog. If we put all three episodes together with some judicious editing, I think there is an excellent 30-minute episode not including ads and credits and stuff. So, essentially, all the elements are there for a very interesting podcast, and I look forward to seeing how it matures.Disclaimer: Those who can do; those who can't, teach; and those who can't teach, criticize. I am in the third category. I offer my opinion with the expectation that there will be people who disagree with me. To those people, please post your opinion. We will all be the better for it.
I love a fiction podcast that doesn't rely on found footage style or daily log style to make it's plot move forward. This one is a high quality sci-fi piece that has me wondering just where we are going. The voice acting is great, and the quality is consistent across the entire piece which is truly well mixed. The underscoring is a little repetitive for me, so I found myself losing focus sometimes in the drone, however when the music and the action match this piece soars. Definitely recommend for sci-fi fiction fans.
It's not as great as it thinks it is.
