I love the decision not to make the mother a villain. I couldn't stand her for so much of this show, but the longer I get to know her the more I empathize with her. I think that's part of the beauty of this show - none of these characters are stand-ins. Absolutely brilliant. Also - that choir concert - damn fine sound design.
