RATING
This is Canada's response to very popular daily deep dive investigative news podcast such as The Daily (NYTimes) and The Journal (WSJ). Jayme's resource might not be as extensive as NYT or WSJ but her reporting has been excellent. Jayme is willing to explain nuances that much CBC reporting isn't able (or willing) to. Like other daily news podcast, most stories rely heavily on interviews with other investigative journalists.
There are some decent episodes, but as someone who enjoys CBC podcast content, this is by far the most disappointing to me, mainly because it seems to lack any critical thinking, and blatantly defends mainstream political thought trends, and the Canadian government, behind the viel of "journalism"The episode on Taiwan was close to offensive, without any perspective on strategically keeping microchips in Taiwan to help defend it, instead it only asked how can we get microchips out of Taiwan, as if the issue at stake is not Taiwan or Taiwanese people, but just how to keep iphones and hospital computers working - my wife's family is in Taiwan and this episode was awfulThe episode on natural gas took the single sided view that all natural gas in homes is bad without any effort to address that using electric appliances in regions that are powered by coal or gas electric supply is actually worse for the environment because of energy loss when energy is sent from the source to the home - this is especially insane considering that their are massive swaths of the world (like Taiwan and Japan) that are trying to source natural gas from Canada so they can cut themselves off of coalAnd the episode on our lack of military was almost comedy, downplaying the necessity of Canada needing to defend ourselves, and downplaying the importance of our involvement in Haiti or other international catastrophes like Turkeys earthquakes. The podcast answers every criticism by foreign governments of our military (from the US Pentagon leaks) with sound clips of Trudeau saying the contrary, as if his words apparently rectify the fact that people in Haiti (who other western former-colonies do owe some obligation of help) are dying because we can't afford to put boots on the ground to help.
