Critical Bits is absolutely hilarious.Critical Bits is an actual play comedy podcast about superhero teens attempting to not-die while dealing with fascist government agencies attempting to exploit superpowered teens. Critical Bits will absolutely destroy you emotionally once you become invested. Between GM Joel Ruiz's penchant for body horror and the player's raw emotional realism that shines as their characters grow and change together... something will happen to make you need a minute to collect your thoughts. It hurts, but in a good way. Critical Bits is a sublime hot sauce you keep returning to no matter how many times you've been burned. Their fan engagement and community outreach is bar none in the actual play podcasting community (as far as I've seen) and everyone involved are lovely, thoughtful people. Listen to this podcast.
I’ve never understood how people enjoy the Powered by the Apocalypse system until I listened to Critical Bits. Then I realized that everyone else was just doing it wrong.
One of my favorite podcasts! very funny and spooky, and the players and GM have an excellent rapport. It's a joy to listen to.
These awkward queer teens are just *chef kiss*
Do you like ttrpg podcasts? Do you like weird obscure body horror that seems to come from a seriously repressed mind? What do you mean "no"? Of course you do! So you should check out this pod where all awkward, some queer, some "prone to getting punched in the face" teens take on the mantel of "super hero" in a strange town where every store and restaurant appears to be some form of pun or other play on words... and so are all the super villain names.Prepare to laugh! Prepare to groan! Prepare to recoil in horror and the grotesque body horror! But most of all prepare to enjoy yourself!
The Super Hero Podcast We Both Need and DeserveThe Fun Bunch is a team you need in your lives. If you're cruising around thinking about dipping your toes into the Masks Podcast world then toss caution to the wind and dive on in. The City of Heavendale has been setup in a way that allows for both Joel and all his rad players to just go wild. From Carheads with hot shoulders to hanging out at Wet Pins where you bowl and swim, even both at the same time if you're feeling brave, this town has a splash of madness that is set to just enough that it can still be called "A Lovely Home" for some. The players do a great job bouncing off of one another and there is a great mix of goofs and drama that keep the story very engaging, not to mention these fantastic characters from Joel, looking at you Jenkey-bear <3 You're probably wondering, wait but I already listen to a single podcast! I don't have time for this. You do, I know you do. Just take the plunge, listen to this while you're making dinner and cleaning the house. You won't regret, in fact you'll probably thank Brantley for it and you never thought you would. It dragged me in and I am better for it, my doctor told me so, twice. If you're looking for a fix for superhero story addiction, great goofs, and a gripping tale of heroes who are just trying their best, then visit your doctor today and get Critical Bits subscribed on your podcatcher of choice.
Some of the most compelling actual play audio out there right now. Together, this crew has hit some incredible moments. I could feel my heart pounding listening to a son confronting his possible supervillian mother. Laughed until I coughed as an old man tried to steal from the players at a retirement home. And so many other places. It starts off as a show about teenage superheros and goes all over the place: prom, the beach, hell. Combining the best, genre bending aspects of comics but distilling it into a show that can handle emotion and humor at the same time. Right from the start. Definitely check it out.
This is a podcast full of dark events in a funny world, which keeps the tone afloat. I want to give five stars but the pedant in me is annoyed they kind of play the game wrong (as far as I can tell).
