RATING
99% Invisible is my all-time favorite podcast, always revealing something profound, meaningful, and funny, about the side-effects and strengths of humans' designed world. Roman Mars is a relaxed, masterful storyteller with the broadest possible view of the concept of "design", encompassing nearly all of human constructive activity, from language to skyscrapers. It's a bonus that the show is clear and clean enough to be enjoyed together with my eight-year-old daughter.
Holy cow. Just discovered this podcast and after only a few minutes I'm hooked. Not only is the subject matter incredibly interesting, but it's very well produced.
Love this podcast. It often points out things that are around you everyday and things that make our world work smoothly that we don't typically notice. It would be a 5 star rating if politics were omitted when they don't need to be inserted.
This was one of the first podcasts I ever listened to and I am still here almost 10 years later so that must say something about the compelling nature of this show.If you have ever noticed that pattern that feels like it is on every textile suddenly or had an itch to find out about the history of the building in your city that sticks out like a sore thumb, chances are the 99PI crew has investigated it and has an answer. This podcast takes you through the built environment with a mindful eye towards how the decisions designers make impacts everyday life. The team has grown over the years and seems more diverse than ever which is a testament to Roman Mars as a leader (I think of him as the spearhead of the great Radiotopia podcast network). I am not even worried they will miss a beat with the departure of the good and great Avery Trufelman.I also think Mars may have invented (or at least popularized) the post-credit mini segment which is now ubiquitous so props for innovation. If you like this show, you should really check out the memory palace. It is a sibling podcast that Mars admits was the inspiration for the way he builds a show and it is a lovely listening experience.
This has been one of my favorite educational podcasts of the decade.
Listen to Roman and his wide, wide world of (almost) invisible design and you will open doors you didn't even know were there, enter realms you never even know you cared about, and you will be a better person for so doing
I like what I hear. Very entertaining.
My favorite. Roman has a voice like honey butter.
Lavishly produced and relentlessly fascinating. I never would have imagined loving a podcast out of an architectural firm, which is what makes it such an amazing discovery.
Roman Mars might have the best voice in podcasting. The stories are always well done and usually cover things you might not notice around you. Favorite episode from 2019: Play Mountain.
Thorough and well-produced dives into the world design! I love it! I've yet to listen to a disappointing episode.
Very informative podcast
Really beautifully told stories with gorgeous audio. But the ad-to-pod ratio is absolutely ridiculous and epsiodes are re-released in the feed too frequently for me.
This is the podcast you'd always wanted to hear in schools and university. I think I've yet to hear a 99pi episode that fails to capture my attention. Which is kind of remarkable for a show that is mostly concerned with the everyday, mundane stuff of life. Sometimes the podcast highlights curious bits of history or geography, but it's usually about the often unexpected ways design influences our daily lives, and how small improvement in design can have huge benefits.Kurt Kohlstedt, Roman Mars and the rest of the 99pi team always manage to make each subject they address into an interesting, captivating story, and Roman Mars is an excellent narrator. Production and editing is always flawless. Beautiful nerds rule this world.
99% Invisible is my favorite podcast of all time. That's it. That's the review.
I love design, so this is definitely the podcast for me. There are some episodes that I liked more than others, but overall great podcast.
Always looks at an aspect of life that i took for granted or was unaware of. Always an enjoyable experience.
Great way to get outside your head and look at the asthmatics of the world around you. From every angle.
99PI is leading the way in storytelling podcasts that are able to find incredible stories in the seemingly mundane. Host Roman Mars has one of the best voices you'll ever hear as well.
Roman Mars is such a captivating host who is somehow able to keep conversations going about many different topics yet keep it interesting every time. My favorite episode is “The Containment Plan” about LA’s Skidrow.
