RATING
Even though this story is still in it's beginning stages, the atmosphere established through the writing and sound design is already so incredibly visceral. The fun thing about vampire stories is getting to see how each writer establishes the rules of their creatures, and the set up for this story in particular is so intriguing! Love the subtle world building, the quiet yet expressionistic narration, and the deep sense of dread the permeates every episode. Can't wait to see where this is all going!
The Moon Crown is a compelling horror-mystery-thriller set in a strange mirror-world inspired by Filipino mythology. The lead actor gives an incredible, mesmerizing performance as Lou, a truth-seeker locked in an intense battle with her personal demons, both figurative and literal. This is reinforced by the excellent sound design, which gives a strong visceral sense of the psychological chaos that unfolds. The other voice actors also do a great job, especially as the tension ramps up.The story is a multi-layered puzzle that rewards repeat listens. Some major plot twists are presented in a subtle way, so you need to pay attention. I wouldn't recommend listening to it half-distracted, but if you're taking a tea break in a quiet room and looking for a great mystery drama, you won't be disappointed!
Everything from the sound design to the quiet but vengeful narrator shows exactly what you're getting into when you start this show! It checks off all the things people want in horror but the storytelling can be quite passive at times. Altogether a great one voice audio drama for the horror fans out there!
Compelling and complex narrative, creepy binaural sound jumpscares. A rich world I'm looking forward to hearing more of.
This show is an amazing addition into the horror-fiction genre. While the show runner is exceptional at thrusting you fully into the atmosphere and world of The Moon Crown, the story takes you places you’d never see coming — in the best way possible. The voices are talented, and the main narrator/voice has an ethereal quality to their voice that makes you feel like you’re on the edge, overlooking a vast void of dread. This show carries a sense of unease curated through interesting writing, unapproachable soundscaping, and a small cast that does a great job of making you feel like you NEED to be worried, just like the characters themselves. A great listen to include in your list!
There is an interesting world we get to learn about through the soft-spoken narrator: one of religious zealots and vampires. The podcast is like a lullaby, a very creepy lullaby. I seriously can't wait to hear what happens next!
Ethereal, haunting broadcasts from a world of vampires and worse. There is clearly so much love in the writing, acting and sound design of this show and it is meticulously put together. The show uses some classic audio drama tropes such as the use of radio broadcasts but the world-building feels so fresh and unique!
